Country music singer fits Grimes. I had been wondering who he reminded me of, because it definitely isn't an OL coach. Coach Rock looks like a line coach.

I am also curious. What workouts did Jay do to prepare to two-a-days. This was an excellent video and I am lovin that intro music.

JCCW offers a proposed reason for Billing's academic troubles. He graduated but must be enrolled to play, so he would have to get into grad school. He might be having problems there.

I am not sure if that makes sense, but it is the best guess I have read yet. It is just that. A guess.

8:40 PM

We could really use Dax Dellenbach now. At 6-1, 220#, and a 5.2/40; you don't usually see that combination of size and speed. Wait a minute. My grandmother use to run a 5.2/40 while carrying the walker. Nevermind.

8:43 PM
Blogger Monica said...

I thought it was interesting that Coach Taylor says he doesn't like to rotate all the receivers - he's going to pick 6 guys to rotate in a game of 80 plays - the other guys? their window is done unless somebody gets injured until next year

I also love that Emory Blake was saying that the stop the play if they get their footwork off even by a couple of steps when running a route. That's wicked discipline.

Just finished watching '96 Ole Miss @ UGA on CFC. Tubbs looked so young. It's gonna be strange seeing someone else walking the sideline for Auburn.

9:06 PM

I had assumed we would play more than 6 receivers, possibly up to 8. This is going to be interesting.

9:06 PM
Blogger Monica said...

Steve he says he wants that receiver/QB because every R is different and he wants that timing TIGHT

9:08 PM

Well, I think we have to trust in the coaches. I just like the idea of playing lots of receivers.

Blogger Monica said...

don't forget the sunglasses

9:49 PM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

that's right. i had some Under Armour sunglasses and loved them. i left them on the top of my car a couple months back and drove to work with them still up there. needless to say they're GONE LIKE A SOLDIER IN THE CIVIL WAR, BANG-BANG.

i love it when the Braves play that after a home run. haha.

9:50 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

so I guess Wisner is a jr walk-on, not on scholarship. That's pretty expensive from Montana.

9:53 PM

Hag do you have Rivals? There's a great shot of Onterio on there.

9:55 PM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

i guess. Saddleback JC.

but then again, we've heard this before. what was the kid's name last year as a Senior that made big plays in fall camp but never played more than 20 snaps all season? oh, Olutunji (sp?). there's still 25 more days left. who knows.

9:55 PM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

Mon, they've got women's Armour polos so you and Eddie can match on gamedays. they're on www.aubookstore.com. i can NOT believe U.Armour can sell those things for $75. it's crazy. the ones we sell at work retail for $65 w/o the 'AU'. so, that's what it's worth, $10 for the AU. nuts.

T-minus 25 days til kickoff!!!

HAPPY MONK GAFFORD DAY!!!

Roy Haynes Gafford, Jr. was born in 1920; he was a native of Fort Deposit, AL. Monk was a three year starter at halfback and was the very first Auburn back to rush for 1000 yds in a single season. He was recognized by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta as the SEC Player of the Year in 1941 and he achieved All-American honors in 1942. The Birmingham Quarterback Club named Gafford as it's 1942 SEC Player of the Year; in my biased opinion they showed a little better judgement than the national voters, who gave Heisman Trophy honors in 1942 to Georgia's Frankie Sinkwich.

Monk Gafford's most famous game was in 1942 against Sinkwich's top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, a team which also included future All-American Charlie Trippi. Georgia had beaten Florida 75-0, a team which had beaten Auburn 6-0. The Dogs outweighed the Auburn team by an average of over 20 lbs/man. Unequivocally, the best player on the field that day was neither Sinkwich nor Trippi, but our very own Monk Gafford. Auburn's #25 had 119 yards rushing on 21 carries, and added another 92 yards on 3 punt returns in leading Auburn to the stunning 27-13 upset.

For his Auburn career, Monk averaged a lofty 6.4 yds per carry. LSU coach Bernie Moore called Gafford "the best back the SEC had seen in the last 10 years." (1942 was the 10th year of the SEC).

Immediately following college, Gafford entered the Army in service to his country during World War II. He was the first officer with men taking over the infamous Dachau prison camp. As soon as the war was over, Monk served as player/coach of the Army's European Theater Operations championship football team. General George Patton proclaimed Monk Gafford the best back he'd ever seen.

After the war, Gafford spent a few years in the All-American Football Conference, the first with the Miami Seahawks and two subsequent seasons with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He went on to a business career in Tulsa, OK, before returning to his native state for retirement. Monk Gafford was elected to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.

Honorable Mention:
one of my favorites, FB Wallace Clark
from the '57 National Champs: HB/DB Tommy Lorino
from the '72 Amazin's: DB Roger Mitchell - He blocked the first kick against UA-T in 1972...no, not the punt, the extra point after UA-T's first TD, thus providing Auburn's eventual 17-16 margin of victory. I never get tired of watching him hurdle an upright Bisceglia on the 2nd punt block play.
from the '80s: HB Tim Jessie, an outstanding back who was understandably overshadowed by Bo & Brent.

WARRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!

An article by PMarsh about Monk Gafford

As a side note, the head coach for the Miami Seahawks was Jack Meagher, formerly a head coach at Auburn in the '30s. Coach Meagher Bowdened in the middle of the Seahawks' first season. One of the Seahawks assistant coaches? None other than a fellow best known as Shug.

Tim Jessie's biggest play?

Perhaps it was handing the ball to Lawyer Tillman on the reverse for the game winner vs. UAT in 1986.

Syracuse has lost 16 scholarship players since their new coach took over. And you thought we had it bad.

2:20 AM
Blogger Aeronaut said...

We've lost nothing due to coaching change. I don't think the three racketeers and a deep snapper is an attrition you can blame on coaching change.

The rest.. the guys whose departure coincided with xCTT's resignation were the perpetual doghouse residents. I don't think either of them were too brokenhearted to see the coach go.

and give God the glory! Good morning, Hotties! Wow! 25 days!

I'm sure you guys discussed this yesterday, but these new SEC media rules are complete BS. When did the SEC become a dictatorship? Just like most other businesses, it all boils to ONE thing and it makes me sick.
