T-MINUS 8 DAYS TIL KICKOFF!!! (As of 7 pm tonight!!!)
HAPPY CALVIN JACKSON DAY!!!
Calvin Jackson - Ft. Lauderdale native was a standout cornerback for Auburn, lettering in 1992 and 1993, gaining ALL-SEC Honor in '93. No Hottie will ever forget his 96 yard momentum changing interception return against the Gators in 1993. What would have been a 17-0 deficit became a much more manageable 10-7 deficit and lit the fire the Tigers needed to torch the Gators 38-35. That game was serious excitement. So what did the PICK SIX look like from my seat? I have no idea. Disgusted at the thought of the Gators scoring yet again, I went to get THTJr the hot dog he had requested much earlier. The deafening roar that arose left little doubt what had happened. When I returned with the dogs & drinks, my next major decision: Do I sit and watch the game or do I go back to the concourse so Auburn can score again? Thankfully, my position had no bearing on the outcome and I was able to watch one of the most thrilling victories ever at Jordan-Hare. Mr. Jackson's return is the 2nd longest in AU history. The longest was in Digger's and IV's childhood days when John Liptak had a 98 yard INT return vs UGa.
Who else wore 8?
Cooper Wallace - Nashville, TN; TE 2002-05.
Shayne Wasden - Selma, AL; WR 1988-90; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 1990.
Stanford Simmons - Ashland, AL; FS 1999-01.
Jerry Beasley - Montgomery, AL; CB 1977-80; yes, Terry's brother.
Chris Knapp - Americus, GA; PK 1985-87; leading scorer in 1986; ranks 6th in career PAT pct (62/63).
Thanks, Michael!!! And D.Miller!!!
8 days babeeeeeeeeeey
Later THT ...
DMiller, I'll bet you can disarm people with a look.
Later kids.
IV here, been lurking tonight. Another good job THT. I have enjoyed everyone's take on things tonight and the usual craziness that shows up on here. I was wondering if you was going to give Jerry Beasley an honorable mention. I can not for the life of me remember one John Liptak maybe Digger does. There was a Johnny Liptak on the Class B Selma Cloverleafs baseball team of the old Southeastern League that was quite a fan favorite. Played in the outfield and could hit a mean long ball. I can't make a connection but it might be there is depending on when John Liptak was at Auburn. The one the played baseball in Selma would have been around there in the late 40s. If the two are in fact one and the same, I never was told that Johnny L. had an Auburn connection. The Auburn frosh once played the Georgia frosh in Selma. Can't remember what year that was either but I think I would have been about 7 or 8. Born on March 24, 1939. Almost killed my mom getting here, but thank the good Lord I didn't.
Well I guess I put everyone to sleep with that boring story. Think I will call it a night also. 8 days and counting. I think it is going to be good.
THT, that interception return in '93 was a game-changing performance before that phrase became so popular.
Stanford Simmons was one of the first recruits I can remember Auburn getting credit for signing in multiple recruiting classes. Sadly, he never lived up to his billing coming out of Clay County HS.
Time for the Standord Simmons story I have told here probably 5 times. I still have a scar on my forehead from when I grabbed his facemask and head butted him after storming the field when we beat Flordida back in '01, so there is a special place in my heart for him. I probably wouldn't remember him if I didn't go home that night and look up who I head butted. He just smiled and laughed like "What is this moron doing?"
IV - don't be discouraged by lack of activity after a late hour post. It is always slow this late on the HABOTN.
I suprisingly remember that Syracuse game well. I started the day off right: consuming three minis of Smirnoff 100-proof at room temperature at 8a.m. before walking to the tailgate. I ended the night with some other guy's girlfriend. In between, I was transformed from a life-long Auburn fan into a rabid personality with Orange and Blue running through my veins.
Not sure why it was that game that was special. I had been to many at that point. I just remember standing on the wall around the 10 yard line in the student section (after I told Mr. Yellow Jacket Guy to shut up or come get me if he wanted me to step down into my seat...I guess he was in a good mood, he just laughed), screaming my lungs out. I looked down the field, up into the stands, over at the band, and it just hit me like a ton of bricks. This place, which I already loves and held dear, was truly the greatest place on earth.
A couple of overtimes later, the glorious fame was over and the good guys were victorious. I was in heaven as I walked out of the stadium with some friends. Up ahead, I saw a pretty girl standing by herself, waiting on drunk boyfriend to catch up. I grabbed her and laid a huge kiss on her. She seemed shocked at first, then looked back at him stumbling around, looked at me, shrugged her shoulders, took my arm and walked away with me. Stuff legends are made of.
War Damn Eagle!
Good morning, Hotties and Happy Friday!
WDE!!
Happy Erick Lowe day everyone!
mornin' Luv!
WERK - where on earth do you come up with these people?
That's pretty much a rhetorical question as I won't be around for an answer. I'm incarcerated today.

That's a little tmi, PF. But this got me all verklempt:

Have a great day, Tar Heel! WDE!!
Back to Sensi & Eddie's show...
I agree "Living on a Prayer" has to go. Just awful. If we need something to do between the 3rd and 4th quarter let's sing the alma mater. Steal Florida's tradition.
I think you are taking this "Sea of (insert color here)" a little too literally. South Carolina uses a sea of black once a year, and almost always loses that game.
I guess I don't understand why so upset about Orange? 1999 was the first time you could look at our crowd and see that there was some unity in the crowd. I think the one color adds to the atmosphere of the crowd.
The phrase "Tradition is Bammerish" is insane. Everyone has traditions.
Superstitions, I used to be insane about it, but I stopped after the Arkansas game of 2006. In 2004, I parked in the same lot, tried to park in the same spot and walked the same path to the stadium.
THT,
Most of the people I've been naming were players from the Bowden era who most people won't remember.
WERK, why the Arkansas game in '06?
That game was the one that finally destroyed my opinion that how I dressed and how I came to the game actually mattered in outcome of the game.
We were # 2 and got waxed at home by Arkansas.
WERK, that game destroyed a lot of things. One of the most miserable games I've been to. Only the UGA game later that season was worse as it was my last home game as a student.
Also didn't the recently departed Jarraud Powers don the #8? If so does he not merit at least a mention?
This is the last Friday for a long time where College Football won't be on the next day...I just gave myself goosebumps.
Happy Friday & Happy Calvin Jackson DayHot Ones!!
THT & Monica thanks for the bday wishes!! I had computer issues last night and had to cut my HABOTNizing short.
I have to give honorable mention to #8 Jerraud Powers. When he was healthy last year, I didnt worry about who was at WR for the other guys, and he faced some giants with talent (Brown, Green, Jones...) and held his own.
RK- I was just having fun with the Sea of Orange. I do agree it looks coold, but I also think everyone in blue would be pretty cool too. Also, they need to get the orange right, it's been wrong for a while. It's been too light for awhile. I have hope that Under Armour has corrected this year, or at least the shirt I saw looked a lot more in line what I think Auburn Burnt Orange should look like. But the sea of orange was just tongue in cheek on my part. Like i've said here before, we all love orange, but give blue its due.
As for the "Tradition is bammerish" comment. That was just to get a rise out of some as it did. I'm guilty of stirring the pot on occassion. I do wish we could change things up just a little bit on the uni's for at least one game a year. How hard could that be? I love the blue uni's just like everyone else, but I also would enjoy seeing something different at least once a year. I'll maintain that also using a different uni when we play at LSU would be a good idea also.
I think when we go to LSU we should make them wear the purple jerseys.
RK is going to have a very tough time coming up with a Bowden player for tomorrow :)!!!
The main complaint I've heard about the Orange in the past is it was just a marketing ploy to sell more orange shirts.
If they do days when everyone should wear blue, it'll also be a marketing thing, and I'm sure they will print up shirts for everyone to wear.
As long as it looks unified and intimidating to opponents, then I'm cool with it.
I do however remember, Florida killing SC on one of their "Blackout the Gators" nights, and Spurrier saying after the game "I'd like to think all of those SC fans for the nice black backdrop for Rex to throw against. Our WR's saw the ball really well."
So sometimes a special promotion does work against you.
Eddie,
You did just hit on a good point though. Since we get to wear home jerseys at LSU, that might be a good game if we were going to mix it up to do that.
I need more sleep....grumble, grumble, grumble....
I just don't like the thought like UGA had of "if we change jersey colors the players will buy into the program more and play harder."
If it takes gimmicks like that to get kids to play harder, then you need to look at yourself and how you are coaching.
What time is Hatin' with Jay G this morning?
RK- Richt was full of gimmick's that year, like the celebration after the first score in the Florida game. That was about the dumbest thing I have ever seen.
Richt was as surprised as you and I were about the whole freakin team running on the field, Eddie...
I was at that game, and I have to say, it was electric. You could see it in the player's eyes that they were as pumped up as they've ever been; half of the stadium went WILD (as wild as I've seen the UGA contingent at that game), and the other half had this stunned "did that really just happen" look on their faces.
Peter- Richt may have not expected the whole team to celebrate, but he is the one directly responsible for it happening. He told them to do something after the first score and get a celebration penalty.
With that said, it worked out great that year, not so great the next year and I'm sure there will be more vengence dished out by the Gators to put the cherry on top for that move.
JGT will be on Supersport @ 9:05 central time.

Thanks ehyou.
Mitch Mustain must be really lazy at practice or something...either that, or he's a whiny, uncoachable brat.
Jay G, can you as Gus which it is, please?
Peter- You bring up a good point. Mustain was not even in consideration for the starting or the backup job at USC. Also, how about USC starting a true freshman at QB??? I will admit that our season goes as Chris Todd goes, but Rollison should get valuable snaps thru out the season.
A freshman QB has never started in the season opener at USC. I thought for sure that Mustain would be the guy when Corp went down (and honestly thought he'd be at least in contention before that). He's doing something wrong. We've seen him, he's got some talent, and with time, he should have the maturity and decision making skills. This is not a feel good Paul Harvey rest of the story. Something's odd about his situation...
I thought the College Pick 'Em was ATS, was I wrong?
I totally agree Peter, I just can't put my finger on it. Hell, even when Corp has a fractured leg, he is still ahead of Mustain. I agree, something is very odd about that situation.
I bet Mustain's mom loves this.
Well we already know the kid has a poor work ethic, poor accountability and almost no integrity based on his previous actions. It's not all his fault, I blame the parents. It's too bad because he seemed like he was destined for great things.
morning hotties, happy Calvin Jackson Day! i'll always remember him for returning that INT all the back for a TD vs. the evil Gators.
ok, on the Mustain thing. ok, 3rd string at USC but was a stud as a freshman being coached by Malzahn? gotta give you hope that Coach Gus can made Todd a pretty decent QB this year.
oh, and thanks to Mon last nite for the link to M.Dyer. keep the Tigers at #1 kid!
still, backup at USC is still better than backup at Arkansas. Private School California Girls > Toothless Ozarks girls.
agreed PF. ha. different take on the situation. i like it.
THT, man i'm sorry you missed C.Jackson' INT return. i was still in high school listening to that game on the radio. just me & Jim Fyffe. good times.
Then there was 8
