We just need a couple of years of good recruiting, which I think these coaches can do. Do you think this will slow down the talk of Gus as the next head coach at "insert college name" here?

Probably.

Bottom line is this: If you're going to win a game after giving away three touchdowns early in the game--you better play perfect, error-free football.

We didn't and/or couldn't.

Game over.

But I am sick and damned tired of facing Arky with an undefeated record, and then getting blown out of the stadium.

It just sucks..

5-1. I'll take it. I said I would be happy if we split these 2 road games. We did, so I'm happy. We imploded today. I don't see that happening again.

2:19 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Reynolds, Arkansas's defense is so bad that they figure if they blitz every down, it's high risk high reward. It's what they did against A&M last weekend and though they gave up a bunch of yards, they still only gave up 19 points.

Crompton and on fire are two things I never thought I'd read in the same sentence.

2:25 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Yeah, today sucked, but it would be ridiculous if fans all the sudden turned on Chiz. He deserves to take some heat today because we just weren't ready to play in the first half, but a Tubs coach team probably doesn't even get it down to 15 points, let alone 11, in that situation against Arkansas.

I'm with Kathy. Everybody who can get out there and support the team next week. The future is bright and this team will still go to a bowl game this year and still maybe 7, 8, or 9 games.

2:26 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

FSJ, it all begs the question. How bad is UGA's defense?

2:26 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

Im with you Kathy, 5-1 aint bad. If we were gonna get a beating to learn from, I'd rather get it from ARK than the rest of the teams we play.

2:27 PM

Then again I couldn't bear to watch the last half of the season last year. And had a hard time explaining the UT Martin game to friends.

Regardless - we got whupped today. I hope they learn from it, grow from it, recover and come out guns balzin next week. And hopefully we didn't get anyone hurt too bad.

2:27 PM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

Next week is the most important week of the season.

We have to be focused and ready to beat UK. Barring a complete disaster against Furman, a win over the Kats makes this a 7-5 year at worst, which is the best any of us could realistically hope for preseason.

2:28 PM
Blogger IV said...

I feel bad, really bad. Not for myself but for the players who have been busting their butts and working hard since the first of August. This is AUBURN. We will be back. However, it was almost like we were just not ready to play today. A lot of blame can go toward a lot of people so why bother. Let's just take this one on the chin, learn from it and be ready to play next week against the Wildcats.

Blogger Dear Leader said...

Our O had its first misfire today and we needed D to step up... they did not.

CGC used to play BA*& to the wall in 2004 with his D game plan.. it does not seem we have been putting any pressure on any QB this year..

2:35 PM
Blogger Miller said...

5-1 isn't what bothers me. I actually thought we'd lose this game prior to the season starting anyway. But the absolute lack of preparation, the look of "who cares" on the sidelines from coaches and players... the fact that being down 3 scores and we don't even try to mount a comeback...

Our coaches were resigned to losing that game before the 4th qtr even started. And didn't really even seem to care.

Boulware should be fired in the locker room and left in the woods of the Ozarks.

I can handle losing a game when effort and preparations were made and when you just get outplayed. But, when you don't even show up (coaches or players) and don't seem to care... that bothers me a lot...

Again, 5-1... ok, I can live with that, I'm not irrational. But, playing like we did today, and not being the least bit prepared to play... we wouldn't beat Furman playing like that.

2:35 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

This has already been a successful season. We deserved to loose this game. We played bad.

2:42 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

Everybody was saying the same thing when we beat West Virginia. You can't make that meaning turnovers and misalignments, and penalties, and beat an SEC team on the road. That's just the way it is. I think this hurt the coaches just as much as the players. You will see a different team next Saturday.

2:44 PM
Blogger Miller said...

The old "the better team didn't win today" thing? really? Seriously?

Steve, I fail to see your correlation with Chizik to my criticism of Boulware? Boulware is our ST coordinator, right? ST's have done absolutely nothing to help us win a game or prevent us from losing it.

Today, we finally get some momentum, and a poor ST scheme allows a big return completely nullifying the Mo we had.

2:44 PM
Blogger ehyou said...

It's obvious after today's game that we should win out. There's no way we make that many mistakes again.

2:46 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

I think Chizik helps with Special Teams too doesn't he? We just don't have the depth to risk injury. They have to play too many backups on Special Teams. It is what it is. We've been saying it's going to cost us a game. It definitely changed the momentum.

2:48 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Sorry, but I am not a fair weather fan. This is Boulware's first season and Chizik hired him. He could have chosen anyone, but he chose Chizik. Boulware has next to nothing in terms of getting players in and has not played a snap. For fair weather fans to have a tantrum and want to fire someone half way through their very first season is pretty pathetic. I prefer true Auburn fans that win with grace and lose the same way. The childish tantrums when someone doesn't get what they want is ridiculous. Blaming everything on one coach is ridiculous. Some people need to grow up.

2:48 PM
Blogger Miller said...

It doesn't matter which players you put out there on ST if you have a bad scheme.

2:49 PM
Blogger No One said...

How about this as an offensive strategy? We line up in the power "I", pull the left tackle while pitching the ball to Ben Tate moving right, seal the inside with the tight end and the outside with the pulling guard, and run the damn ball?!? Oh, and the fullback, what about him? He clears out the linebackers! How about that to go along with our fancy ass spread?

Ok, venting is done here. Next!

2:49 PM
Blogger Aeronaut said...

Nutt sucks. bammer is going to whup ole miss.

Sp. Teams is not bullwinkle's fault. You bet ULM plays lesser walk-ons than Auburn does. Send a thank you note to xCTT for that.

At least we are moving in the right direction.

2:49 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

At least we didn't give up. Auburn was actually trying to get back into the game in that 3rd quarter. We just made too many mistakes to overcome them.

2:49 PM

Yes, Chizik chose Boulware and Chizik has been focusing on the special teams. We loose one game and suddenly it is tantrum time. Grow up and stand behind your team.

You can't really blame Tuberville either. We lost recruits when we chose to change coaches, so if anything, you should blame the fair weather fans who wanted the coaching change.

2:51 PM

You're right, §teveFC. We need to stand tall in the face of adversity. However, we also need to vent at our coaches. Not our players, but at the coaches. Hold them accountable. Love the Tigers, and nothing will ever stop that!

2:52 PM
Blogger Aeronaut said...

Yes I Can blame tuberville. Because that's the truth.

Breathe folks.

It is impossible to mentally up every game. Impossible. Occasionally, you run into a team that is on fire. We did today. Penalties killed us. The fumble at the goal line finished us off. We're not strong enough yet to be off mentally and expect to win against SEC teams. Boulware didn't miss tackles. Chizik didn't overthrow T-Zach. Gus didn't lay the ball on the ground. What happened today happens. Time to shake it off and get ready for UK. Nobody quit. We had a bad day and got whipped. Time to learn from it and move on.

2:56 PM
Blogger Aeronaut said...

And saying that you lost recruits when you changed coaches is a lie.

We lost players because of the craptastic coaching in 2008. Slaughter, Blackmon, Furr, and 14 others all left the team because of xCTT's crew.

2:57 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Anyone who blames special teams for a loss today is not beyond reproach. This was a TEAM loss today. No other way around it. When I look back at why we lost this game, special teams will be the third or fourth reason to come to mind.

2:57 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Looking at the stats, there is a lot to like in terms of rushing. Todd's numbers look okay, although he really missed a lot of throws that he shouldn't have.

The most obvoius issue was 3 turnovers and a boat load of penalties that got us behind early.

It happens. We just need to keep building and keep getting better. When we have the players for special teams, we will improve. This team has overachieved and I am proud of them, coaches as well as players.

2:58 PM

If yall haven't noticed. There is a lot of parity in the SEC. A few minor swings can change the outcome greatly and from week to week.

AU has a young, thin Defense that got smacked on the road today in a SEC game. So what. This is why we were picked to win 6-8 games and not 9-11 and why we weren't moved up in the polls earlier.

These are the same coaches that won at Tenn last week. AU was prepared this week...we didn't EXECUTE. You get that sometimes with 20 years olds that attend clases, have girlfriends and have trouble being focused each week. parity exacerbates those focus issues.

I see that it doesn't matter who the coaches are.....some fans will always jump to blame them and not realize the player's issues. It takes a very special group of athletes/players to be at the top of their game every week.

Who here has played on an undefeated team that mattered?

2:59 PM

The game could have gone either way. The rest of the season is going to be tough. I was more concerned about Arkansas than Tennessee partially because we played them after Tennessee. Before the season I considered the Arkansas and Tennessee games keys to our season. We needed to win one of them. We did. I feel pretty good about where we are.

I agree with those who have talked about execution. But bottom line is, our guys just weren't ready to play either. We came out flat on the first drive and didn't wake up till halftime. That's on the coaches. All the first half penalties are indicative of that. But hey, it's a young team. Let's learn and move on and get ready for the Wildcats. I'll be disappointed today and forget about it tomorrow.

I'd like to know how you can tell from a TV broadcast that the special teams schemes aren't correct. Y"ou can't see enuff of the field on TV to know that.

On the long Arky kickoff return in the 4th Qtr our guys contained and were in their lanes....and let the guy juke right past us.

That wasn't a scheme problem.

3:22 PM

Blaming is foolish. We can blame the players that left if we like. That should help. We can trash good Auburn men. That should really help too. Or we can try to stay positive and quit whining like little kids every time we don't get what we want. The Auburn creed provides a hint.

3:23 PM

If Bowden isn't going to bow out gracefully, I wish he wouldn't whine about getting presure.

Most of the loyal, reasonable type fans will come to Bowden's defense because he has earned it.

I am disappointed in the way AU lost, but the D and special teams have had issues for most of the season. If the offense struggles, or is not at the top of their game, it will be hard for Auburn to beat most any team.

I thought Malzahn had a good plan, the missed throw to Zachery, the Tate fumble etc, I don't see how he could control these type of plays.

A big recruiting year is needed pretty much across the board at all positions. I believe this staff will deliver. It does seem to be very important for the team to come back with a big game against UK next week to keep the player's confidence up. I believe they will play very well next week.
