First Post: Wednesday of Week Six

Hey everyone. Thanks for watching my video, which was posted last night. There was a lot of funny stuff going on. Antonio Coleman is far less quotable than he once was, but he hasn't lost any authority among teammates. When he tells a man to shut him mouth, that man shuts his mouth.

I told you all about Mario Fannin's letter jacket thing earlier this year. Since it's a bit chilly at night now, No. 27 again is flossing at all times. I could tell Kodi Burns got a kick out of it -- the same way you might get a kick out of your dad wearing a pocket protector. OK, maybe that's just my family.

I'm flying to Tulsa, Okla., on Thursday for the Auburn/Arkansas game. My peeps live in Tulsa. This may or may not preclude me from participating in Thursday Night Live. Internet access is spotty at my parents' house.

Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

One of my co-workers had a funny facebook-related thing happen to him the other day. We're sitting at work, and he gets a call from a random New-York number. Turns out, one of his friends from elementary school in New York (he moved to Florida before middle school) who he hasn't spoken to in years found him on facebook that morning, and needed a favor. The guy owns a fish market or something, and was at a trade show in Houston. One of his employees had packed up a few thousand dollars worth of high grade tuna that morning, but had packed it incorrectly, and it was leaking. The airline was holding it hostage at the Miami airport until someone came and repacked it. Dude got on Facebook and realized my co-worker lives in Miami, and called him to ask if he'd go to the Miami airport and repack his tuna. One of the most off the wall favor requests I've ever heard, much less from someone that he hadn't talked to in nearly 20 years.

I hope that girl has someone else to walk her down the aisle when she gets married. The only way I can find this remotely logical is if her dad doesn't think what Upshaw did was wrong (meaning her dad controls and assaults the women in his life). While that's not entirely logical in an of itself, it would explain his crazy behavior. Either that, or he's just a typical Bammer.

1:21 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Florida will continue to be a great program. It's hard not to be with that setup unless you hire someone like Ron Zook.

People talk about Tebow and the 2 national titles he's won. he certainly played a meaningful role on the 2006 team, and Chris Leak looked barely beyond average a lot of the time (notably against us), but they still won the national title, and it only had a little to do with Tebow.

1:24 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Consider the Tebow ramification. Tebow has already changed the world. If he had went to Bama, Shula would still likely be caught in the headlights and Saban would still be trying to teach fish to play football. Tuberville would still be at Auburn and likely running out of fingers. We would never know the power of the Chiz. God bless time Tebow.

Question for the older generation of Hotties. I'm reading Maisel's aritcle on espn.com and he's talking about how the SEC decided what the permanent East-West matchups are every year. Obviously it's Georgia for us, but my question is for the older hotties is this: Does it still feel weird playing the slate of SEC games we do year in and year out given who our traditional rivals use to be before the merger in 1992?

I'm talking especially about Florida and Tennessee. Auburn-Tennessee in the 80s is what Florida-UT was in the 90s and Auburn-LSU this decade (when played in Auburn anyway). It was the September SEC game that set the standard for the rest of league play. And Florida was a part of Amen Corner and we've played them I think more than any other SEC opponent except Georgia.
I guess you could also talk about Georgia Tech before they left the conference.

I hated losing both the Florida and Tennessee rivalries, although in general our schedule got easier because of it. The UT game use to be an elimination game. The loser there was pretty much out of the SEC race. It was typically about the third game of the season. Florida was always a good rivalry.

On the other hand, we use to hardly ever play LSU, who has become our biggest rival since the split. It may be the most entertaining series in the SEC since the split.

Safely escaped from West Gomorrah. The scenery was dreadful. The recent recruiting success has not carried over into other areas, if you get my drift.

As to E-Bro's question, I guess I have adjusted -- sad to say -- that Tennessee, Florida and Georgia Tech are no longer on the schedule every year.

I hate that generations of AU students will not have the opportunity to participate in a Wreck Tech Pajama Parade -- or at least the night before.

Those three were great series, but what do you do differently? If we could only keep one after expansion, it had to be Georgia. As for Tech, I am known in these parts as a one BCS non-conference game per year proponent. I don't think we can lock ourselves to just the same school each year.

Florida is better with Brantley under center. Without Percy, Tebow's passing game is shaky at best. Brantley can get to the ball on a rope, something their mediocre receiving corp needs. (please, don't give me any passing stats that Florida's had thus far against cupcakes as proof that Tebow will throw against LSU. He won't.)

My wife's facebook went our for a while a couple weeks ago. You would have thought she went back to cave-man days. she was lost, didn't know what to do.
That's reason #142 I hate facebook

Harrison- Did that mean you had to entertain her and that's why you hate facebook?

In what world is Miami considered part of the top ten list of best sports cities in America?

Why, because they put on a good Super Bowl? Guess what, the Super Bowl sucks as far as sporting events go. Fill a stadium with rich people who could care less about the game being played, put on a big concert at halftime, and surround it with a week of super exclusive parities that the common sports fan could only dream of attending. Yeah, sound great!

Miami is quite possibly the worst sports town I've ever been to. This list sucks.

If I had to start one or the other, I'd start Jefferson long before I'd start Kodi at QB.

Man, what happened to all the Kodi lovers? Last season I got bashed for saying Kodi shouldn't be the man.

SteveFC, I don't want to break it to you, but you got bashed for a LOT of things last season.

Steve,

Apples and oranges.

Remember, Chris Todd 2008. He was the guy who had a handicapped placard from his face mask. It's a little different now.

Anyway, that doesn't matter.

What I'm saying is Jordan Jefferson 2009 > Kodi Burns 2008. That's all. Has nothing to do with who should have been the QB in 2008.

I love Kodi, but the Kodi 08 vs Jefferson 09 comparison is ridonculous. Kodi won two games as a starter (LA-Monroe and UT-Martin). Jefferson has won five out of five.

I know UGA's defense is a joke, but their running defense has been pretty stout this season and LSU bowled their way to almost 160 on the ground.

As for LaFell, he has 23 receptions and five touchdowns (including two big ones to pull it out of the fire in Starkville) this season so it's not as though he has gotten the ball.

If we're gonna talk about weak passing attacks in this game, we have to mention Florida. Through two SEC games, they're averaging less than 130 yards a game through the air. They won't win if that continues on Saturday.

3:26 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

...and they won't come close to hitting 130 against LSU with Tebow in the shotgun.

I could buy that PF. I still pick Tebow/Florida on Saturday if he plays at 100% (big if) just b/c of his iron will, but I've just been saying all along I think it will be a close game. It's been 2005 since LSU lost at home at night, and that was Monday nighter brought on by Katrina. Basically, it takes Mother Nature for LSU to lose at home at night.

That or two extra seconds on the clock after a Matt Flynn prayer to Demetrius Byrd. DOH!!

How do you guys compare the current regime to Tuberville?

Bad economy joke. I'm deleting it, too.

Former post was deleted because I was very upset with my sentence structure. That's been a problem lately. Lack of sleep, I guess.

3:46 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Well, Tuberville was around a lot longer than the current regime has been, so time is probably the most obvious comparison. On a relate note, Tubs won more games than Chizik has.

3:48 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Yes, but Chizik has lost less games than Tubs.

3:54 PM
Blogger IV said...

What's there to compare?

3:58 PM

Maybe you could compare Chizik's first five games to Bowden's first five games. Both are undefeated after five.
