Monday Night Live

Hey everyone. We're listening to Tiger Talk, coach Gene Chizik's weekly radio show, and we may watch some Monday Night Football in a bit. Since it's Thanksgiving Week, and Le Bowl D'Iron is on Friday, I guess the natural decision for the people at Auburn ISP Sports was to broadcast on Monday.

Please stand and sing.

TIGER TALK TIDBITS
  • Hans is on the air babbling about who knows what.

  • On how he used the off week: ``It's a fine line between making sure you work enough and getting the rest we need. It's been four straight months of football -- no days off. It was really good to let our football team have some time off. They came back Sunday and I think they were refocused."

  • On being off schedule last week: ``We really tried to focus on the fine details. We concentrated on that and moved on to Alabama."

  • Rod says Alabama is the best team in the conference. Florida may disagree: ``To survive in this league, you have to be physical on both sides of the ball. They are."

  • Jane from Auburn wants to know about the 20th anniversary Auburn Iron Bowl and who will give The Big Pre-Game Speech: ``We'll draw on a couple of different people. This week, I've got two or three people to speak to our team. Today, Karlos Dansby called in. We talked for a long time. He said he wanted to talk to the team. I put him on speakerphone with no coaches in the room and let him talk about what this game means. The feedback was tremendous."

  • Jane is still up. She's flipping through her notes. She wants to make sure Saban leaves Jordan-Hare 0-5: ``Good statement, Jane."

  • FIRST CALL of the night (oh goodie) is from Melvin in Bammerham. He wants to know if they're on the radio ("So are you, Melvin," Chizik said) and he loves Auburn and he says it's hard being an Auburn fan in light of Alabama's "accomplishments" and how Alabama fans think Auburn fans are "inferior" and (gasp) he wants to say good luck. No question, of course: ``We're going to have a lot of fun this week. We appreciate your comments."

  • Leigh and Kathy from Auburn want to wish Gene a Happy Thanksgiving and how much they appreciate everyone. No question, of course. And they're having a Thanksgiving dinner at their tailgate spot near Plainsman Park. She's so nice. No question, but she's really nice.: ``I do appreciate that very much. That's what Auburn is about -- it's about family. My wife and I feel blessed. We're in the place we always wanted to be."

  • Ron from Bammerham wants to know if the Thanksgiving break will affect the players: ``We talked earlier about being creatures of habit. We're trying to keep this week just the same -- just as if school was in. We're trying to keep them on the same schedule. That seems to work (Where?) We really don't change anything."

  • T.J. from Bammerham is upset because he won't be able to watch the game. He's going to watch the Leeds Green Wave. No question. That's 1-for-4 from the phone tonight. ``Thanks, T.J."

  • Meagan from Denver wants to know how Chizik is going to PUMP UP THE TEAM before the Iron Bowl: ``Our biggest challenge is to make sure they're not ready to play the game tonight. Everywhere they turn, they hear it, they see it. They can't escape it. There's not a lot you have to say. When we hit Sewell Hall for Tiger Walk, it'll be all we can to to keep them from going absolutely crazy. I do some things to bring to them the realization of how big this is. We're not playing this game for us; we're playing it for all the people who came before us. Great question."

  • On the 20th anniversary: ``That is such a piece of history. We've got guys on our football from states other than the state of Alabama. Here, when you're on the playground at 6 years old, they ask you: Which side are you on? We're trying to educate them on how this came about. That game was so significant for taking that game from Birmingham to here. There are a lot of similarities of where that game was 20 years ago and where this game is today."

  • Phillip from Murfreesboro, Tenn., is on a cell phone and he wants Chizik to know fans believe Auburn "has a chance" if the Tigers play hard. No question, of course. That's 2-for-6 on the phone: ``We have a chance to win the game. We're playing the game to win the game. We're going to play hard."

  • On Alabama's defense: ``They're very talented. It starts with their front seven. You have to get past them first. They don't give up big plays. Defensively -- they hang their hat on that. When we've had success in games and won games, you can look at turnovers. The same things have happened to them. They're getting the ball back to their offense and they're controlling the ball. That's why they're winning game."

  • On Alabama's offense: "Their offense has some great talent. They have Julio Jones out there. He has great big-play capability. Mark Ingram is fast, makes quick cuts."

  • Bubba from Who Knows said all his brothers and sisters graduated from Alabama and he'd love to "give them hell on Friday" ... and no question. That's 2-for-7 on the phone. ASK A QUESTION, PEOPLE: ``War Eagle, Bubba."

  • Hailey from Tallassee wants to know about Demond Washington. YES, A QUESTION ... though not from the phone: "He's done great. He almost didn't make the first couple of practices. He's really come on this last month. He's really helped our football team."

  • Matt from Auburn, who is about to graduate, wants to say that he'd like to beat Alabama and he thinks Gene has done a nice job. Phone people are now 2-for-8: ``Thank you, Matt. We feel really, really good about what's going to happen down the road."

  • Ryan from Ozark wants to know if Eltoro Freeman will be back ... and how Auburn will stop Ingram: ``With Toro right now, it's really day-by-day. He hasn't been able to do a whole lot. To be able to stop this running game of Alabama's, you've got to be able to put some guys up there (on the line of scrimmage). When you stack people tight, you've got some issues in the secondary to deal with."

  • Paul from Hartselle thinks Auburn can win this game and believes Chizik can get "75 young men" to defy what "10,000 non-believers" say Auburn cannot do. He thinks Gene is a good coach and a fine man. NO QUESTION: ``Very nice comments, Paul. Thanks."

  • On the players' appreciation for the game: "They're in the middle of the forest and they cannot see the trees. We're just trying to educate them about why this rivalry is the way it is."

  • On getting ready for the big game: ``In our team's mind's night, it's Tuesday night. Tomorrow it'll be Tuesday but it'll be Wednesday in terms of practice. On Thanksgiving morning, we'll do our walk-through. We'll have some team-building functions and have a Thanksgiving meal before I cut them loose to be with their families."

  • On the recruits: ``We've got some great recruits coming in. A lot of them are committed to Auburn and some of them aren't."

  • On the fans: "I want to thank the fans for what they've done all year long. I'm really excited for them and I appreciate them."

  • THAT'S A WRAP. "Until next time, War Eagle. So long, everybody."

Courtesy Auburn UniversityGregg CarrFormer Auburn football player Gregg Carr will be given the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award in January to commemorate his professional accomplishments in the 25 years since he left college.

Carr will be joined by Doug Flutie, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Jack Del Rio, Maureen O'Toole-Purcell and Deb Richard.

The award is given annually to six former student-athletes who completed their eligibility 25 years ago.

Carr was a four-year letter-winner at linebacker from 1981-1984. In his senior year, Carr was an All-American, National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and a Lombardi Award nominee.

He played four years in the NFL, graduated from the UAB School of Medicine in 1994 and is currently an orthopedic surgeon at Brookwood Medical Center.

Former Auburn swimmer Rowdy Gaines received the award in 2007.

HATE...that is all.

Oh, and good morning everyone that isn't FSJ.

You guys & gals are killing me with all the hate. This week is all about hate with lack of substance. Got to love Iron Bowl Week.

Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

One more day to get up early but is anybody actually really working this week? I'm punching in, but that's about as far as it goes.

Someone mention me?

I heard someone say "All hate, no substance."

Me too Eddie...

I'm "officially" working....that's about it.

Eddie, unfortunately, working in a hospital, I have to work. :( I have one more day to get up early for work, but I have to be at our tailgating spot by 6:00 Thursday morning.

Good morning, Hateful Kristina.

Blogger FSJ said...

Here's to a terrible morning and even worse Friday for all of you.....

7:23 AM
Blogger Quitstina said...

We were actually thinking of having our Thanksgiving Dinner at the tailgate site, but figured since we are frying a turkey, we should probably do so at home. Better to burn down our own house as opposed to Old Foy Union.

7:23 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Shut up, bammer

7:24 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I'm officially working today and tomorrow until 1:30, but Eddie is right not the most productive week.

7:24 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

That # 2 is very appropriate for FSJ, every time he posts he's dropping a deuce on this blog.

7:25 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Morning Luv, Eddie, Kristina, Jet and the non-bammer hotties.

Go to heck bammers (hotties or otherwise).

7:25 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Kristina, is it just the core of campus that has to wait until 6:00 Thanksgiving morning to mark off their tailgating sites or does that go for sites further out too?

7:26 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

I was hoping you'd burn down the entire campus..

Not wanting anyone to get hurt...

Just destruction to Auburn.

7:26 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Kristina- Fry the turkey! :) That would be fun to burn down Foy. We burned down the old barn, now time to burn down Foy!

Is anyone else going to try to go shopping on Friday before the game? My daughter and I are going to be out at 4 am and try to be back to the condo for breakfast by 10 am. We are probably crazy, but I love Black Friday shopping!

7:27 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

I'm ready for the sermon Jet was working on!

7:27 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

LOL RK...

We are dropping the deuce on Auburn come Friday.

:-P

Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Good Morning Big Snacks. You deserve Top Honors for all the contributions over the last week and the next few days!

7:27 AM
Blogger Quitstina said...

I am not 100% sure, Luv, but I was thinking it was just core campus...I will find out and get back to you.

7:28 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Kristina, thanks! Is where we tailgate considered the core?

7:29 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

cincy, you're nuts. I thought you were done shopping, anyway.

7:30 AM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Didn't we lose that game to LSU when the field house burned down? Plus Dean Foy lives around the corner from us and I don't want some old man kicking my butt for burning down his building.

7:30 AM
Blogger cincytiger said...

Another thing I hate. Bama may very well beat us on Friday (I don't think so, but it is possible) What gets me is their attitude that there will be no contest. They are just going to swoop into Auburn, take care of this nuisance, and move on to Florida. That attitude really rips my pis--r as my mother would say (when she really wanted to say something bad)

7:31 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

FSJ- Isn't that what happens every time bama fans goes to anywhere? I mean indoor plumbing is unheard of for you guys.

7:31 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Kristina- We did because Jarrett Holmes continually kicked the ball into the snappers butt. Not his best game.

7:32 AM
Blogger cincytiger said...

PBSF,
I am nuts, but I love it. I am finished with all my family shopping. Now I get to shop for the angel tree children and gifts for the men at the Foundry here in Birmingham.

7:33 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

I actually was at the Barn fire game...

Good stuff.

cincy....I once went shopping with an old girlfriend on Black Friday..I vowed...NEVER...EVER....AGAIN.

7:36 AM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Luv, where you tailgate is not considered the core of campus so the roads around there will be open. But I don't know how picky they are going to be about taking down people's markers if they try to set up before then.

Do you have a tent? You could always get a tent permit and set up earlier.

7:36 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

lol at Eddie's avatar.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to do that. I mean after all last year all I saw here were sevens...

7:37 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Who's working?

Certainly not me!

We'll be BLAWGIN FER YER NAWGIN at 11:30 (approximately) and doing more fun stuff after that.

7:38 AM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Fun stuff! Yay! Like hatin' Bama? That's always fun.

7:39 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

What's even more fun is dropping a deuce on Auburn.

7:40 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Cincy, I'm with you. It makes my hate grow with that attitude. McElroy saying that he feels no pressure because this is the same old team they played last year. I'm just hoping because of that attitude, they are looking ahead to the SECCG and Auburn gives them a run for their money.

7:41 AM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Cincy, if I give you a list will you do my Christmas Shopping? You are way more organized than I am.

7:43 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

It's almost time to vote for the Heisman ... and I have no idea where I'm headed with that.

7:43 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Luv..

My hope is that Tate's comments have the Bama defense in a nasty mood....not to mention Mr. Ingram.

7:43 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Jay G...

I was wondering if you had a vote this year..

Can you wait until after the SEC Championship game?

Or does it have to be sent in earlier?

7:44 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Jay G,

you still mad at me?

7:44 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Jay G- Head West young Man!

7:45 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Possibly spawned by the conversation he had with me a few days ago, Chris Low did a little something on Auburn.

7:45 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Shut up, bammer. I'm hoping that McElroy's comments put Auburn's defense in a nasty mood.

7:46 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Peter: I ain't mad atcha.

FSPooper: I really don't know when the deadline is. Maybe I should look that up.

7:46 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

FSJ- My hopes that is McElroy's and Arenas comments have the team pissed off:

Bama QB Greg McElroy told USA Today that, "There's not going to be any pressure. It's just going to be the same old team that we played last year."

CB Javier Arenas told BamaOnLine, "When I heard Carnell Williams went to Auburn, I thought it was a Division III school."

7:46 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Luv..

If it put the Auburn defense in a nasty mood..that would be a first this year..

:-P

7:49 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

thanks Eddie....never trust michaels stock analysis.

7:50 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

SHUT UP BAMER!

7:50 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Eddie,

How bad will 75/85 through Atlanta be the morning of Black Friday?

7:51 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

FSJ- So what will Bama's excuse be when they lose to Boise State or TCU in the Sugar Bowl? The fans caused it again? :)

7:52 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

RK- Shouldn't be bad, but why would you go thru their? It is much quicker to hit 285 West. That is a shorter distance.

7:53 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I just found McElroy's quote at USA Today's site ... and I honestly didn't find it inflammatory in the context of what all he said.

Eddie...

Not going to happen...

We are laying the wood to Auburn on Friday..

Destroying Tebow (not sorry zookeeper) next week...

And then beating the Mike Shula out of whoever we play in Pasadena..

IT'S ON....No more Mr. NiceGuy...this week at least.

7:55 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Agreed Jay G.

If Auburn needs motivation this week...the pain is coming.

7:56 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Eddie,

I always seem to get there faster going straight through rather than 285.

7:57 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Context? We don't need no stinkin context!

Sensi, seriously?

7:57 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

Jay G, nor was Ben Tate's if you read his entire comment. ESPN conveniently left most of it out.

7:59 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I didn't think much of Ben Tate's "slight," either.

Talk about a non-story.

OK, I am putting my hate aside momentarily to go to Bible study. But, the hate will be even HOTTER when I get back :) Save some of the fun for when I return.
