I think Bowden has done to FSU what Spurrier did to UF and Schnellenberger (sp?) did for Miami.

Those programs were hardly anything before they got there (well, Florida had a little tradition), but now there's a solid base that act as a prompt for further greatness. FSU will be back at the top again at some point.

I doubt Tubs would go to UGA, but here is why it would work:

UGA needs a good defensive leader/game planner

UGA doesn't need recruiting help

CMR needs a smart disciplinarian with moxy.

CMR and Tubs are friends and share a lot of philosophies.

Tubs could be the Mickey Andrews that CMR needs.

Why is it so popular for cfb fans to trash any ex-coaches that don't achieve legend status?

8:59 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I guess when you see what they left behind or didn't leave behind when they leave it's easier to trash them.

Why is it some cfb fans get wonder why or get upset when people on the internet state their opinion even though sometimes it's negative? It just happens.

Actually 85% of posts on the internet are probably something negative, it's just how it is.

Auburn fans are heading to Tampa in droves is looks like. Apparently we have already sold our allotment of 11,000 tickets by more than 2,000 and that is still increasing. That is very good news for future bowls.

Good morning, diggerforAU. Thanks for your kind comments. My dad had CABG in 1986, 4 days before the Iron Bowl. He was not allowed to watch it. I sat in the room with him until I just couldn't stand it any longer. I found an empty hospital room and turned on the TV just in time to see Lawyer Tillman's TD run. My dad & I were both in B'ham for the '87 Iron Bowl, and we took THTjr in '88.

I was thinking this morning about a match-up between AU's 2004 team and UAT's current team. I say AU smacks 'em. Anybody else have thoughts on that?

11:09 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

It would be a helluva game Scott...

I'd be interested in the offensive and defensive stats of those teams.

First blush I would think that Auburn was probably a little better on offense and Alabama a little better on defense..but I have no stats to back that up.

11:12 AM
Blogger drdra said...

AU's 2004 team could smack them up both sides of the head. 2004 AU vs 1992 UA-T would be a slobberknocker.

Blogger drdra said...

6+Beasley!!!

11:13 AM
Blogger drdra said...

2004 AU led the nation in scoring defense, I think. Or really high on the list if not.

11:14 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

On Tiderinsider they've been discussing this team vs the 92 team.

On offense there is no question this team is better.

Defense is probably tilted a little toward the 92 team due to Curry and Copeland. If we had Hightower the entire year that would be a dead heat, IMO.

Overall I think this years' team would smack the 1992 team due to the average offense. Now I realize that we haven't won anything yet so that discussion is very premature.

11:15 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

I was lucky enough to be in school at UA in 1992. I think it was Southern Miss that we held under a yard per carry for an entire game.

And still only won 17-10...with a fake punt deciding the game.

Their 10 came off of our turnovers. The TD was a pick, blocked kick, or something like that and the three was a fumble in our territory.

11:18 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

UAT's 92 team was good at just finding a way to win. Copeland and Curry were two of the best DL that I have seen at Bama.

12:02 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

From Stewart Mandel's "Mailbag" on SI.com:

Did you hear about Alabama canceling classes for THREE DAYS for the national championship game? Doesn't this action by Alabama show the lie of administrators who argue against a playoff because it would cause students to miss too much class time? By my estimation a playoff would cause the football team (110 students) to miss four to six days. This action causes 30,000 students to miss three days. C'mon.
-- Robert, Gainesville, Fla.

There are any number of legitimate arguments the Bill Hancock-Ari Fleischer spin machine can make against a playoff. The purported academic effect is not one of them. In fact, it's the single most hypocritical and patronizing talking point espoused by a group of schools that all willingly participate in the NCAA basketball tournament, which, when you throw in conference tournaments before that, keep players out of class three to four days a week for as many as three to four weeks, including finals week at quarter-system schools. (And what happens if they go to 96 freaking teams??)

And yet they keep on throwing it out there, now via social media. What a stunner that the Alabama/canceled class story hasn't merited a Facebook link yet.

12:11 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Tebow would have to learn to control his emotions a little more, but I think he'll have a decent amount of time in the NFL before his post football career needs to be looked into.

12:29 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

And they play on a blue field.

12:30 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'd say Cincinnati. Even if they could beat all the others, it would violate all that is good about football for a team with that poor a defense to win it all.

12:30 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I wish they would get a non-glare blue field. Well, of course, I'd rather them have a green field, but at least get rid of all that glare.

12:32 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

FSJ, I think it's safe to call it for George Rogers Ingram. I think both AU and UAT have had other players in their past who could have won the trophy this year. Who would have thought that Tebow and McCoy would have sub-par seasons and Bradford would get hurt, AND that no player would just blow everyone away. This is just further proof of UAT's dealings with the underworld.

12:34 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Definitely Boise, I stick by my guns that a non-bcs team never deserves it over a BCS team. If you look at Cincy's D, the defense wasn't that bad for most of the season. They never gave up more than 20 points until Week 10. Then the D was terrible the last few weeks. Makes me think there must be depth issues. I think they beat UF in the bowl game.

12:34 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

In AU's case, when I say "players in the past", I mean besides those who actually won it.
