Practice report, No. 5
Hey everyone. We are now 1/3 of the way through spring practice. Yay.
What did we learn today? Not a lot. Here's a representation:
What did we learn today? Not a lot. Here's a representation:
- Defensive coordinator Ted Roof was slow to discuss what has impressed him about S Mike McNeil. After a relatively long pause, Roof identified experience as McNeil's chief strength. That seems like a bad sign for McNeil's chances.
- Roof said Auburn's defensive struggles last season has motivated him on a personal level.
- Roof said he's happy with the way LB Eltoro Freeman has progressed since last season.
- Roof indicated that T'Sharvan Bell -- known around here exclusively as "Tee" Bell -- will stick at cornerback. He played safety during his first two seasons at Auburn.
- Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said TB Mario Fannin has demonstrated "more focus" toward becoming an marquee tailback, though he also praised Onterio McCalebb.
- DE Nosa Eguae, who is playing behind Mike Goggans right now, said he missed last season because of a stress fracture in his left foot. The injury didn't require surgery, but it caused enough discomfort to force a redshirt season. He didn't make the official decision, he said, until the LSU game. He tried to run without his immobilization boot and ... it didn't go well.
- Eguae said he's only gained five pounds or so since his arrival last summer -- he's listed at 245 -- but he said his weight has been re-distributed to his satisfaction.
- DE Dee Ford is happy to be here. He's been trying to gain weight, which has left him feeling "bloated" a lot.

too slow with my DL proxy substance?
Arctic substance
Substance is here
And I am first
Glad Roof is taking it personal!
Just kidding
GRRRRR
2.0 switched to Firefox right before the new thread and all her links were in Norsk, thus opening my window of opportunity.
"Any more questions?"
BAM!
Interview over.
Nothing to do with AU practice, but just found this article on Dameyune Craig coaching at FSU:

Wake...
Have you made the transition from clueless newbie to ruthless law-dog bada$$ yet?
2nd round of Champions League QF games upcoming in 45 mins, if anyone cares.
Yo, yo, yo, California in tha HOUSE!!!
Why am I not surprised?
Wake, I'm still not sure I like you anymore now that you're Smokey and I'm The Bandit.
To reply to a discussion from the last thread, 85 degrees is still kinda temperate as far as I'm concerned.
Seanzie - LGG Byron will be watching. Me too if I'm back from an errand.
I have to agree with you Jay. It doesn't sound like Roof is thrilled with McNeil. It is almost like he said way to take up space. You would expect him to comment on something he has done during the spring.
Wow, didn't realize Christian Ponder was a Heisman candidate! Well, at least according to tallahassee.com
In that case, I declare Darvin Adams a Heisman candidate!
Seanzie, I don't care. The game wouldn't be so terrible (I'm not going to good here, just not terrible) if the announcers didn't have those annoying accents.
PF, you can always mute the tv and put your favorite soundtrack on.
JayGT - thanks for the practice report. I soaked it up. I hope I left some of the text on the HABOTN home page for other Hotties.
If you cared, of course.
Everybody ready for Neil Caudle to be the starting QB?
Please ehyou, I was born a badass law dog.
PF, Oh yeah, well I don't like you either.
What time is it?
Yes, Eddie, ecstatic. How about the United result yesterday? Tough to lose the match in stoppage, worse to lose Rooney for 2-4 weeks, especially with the 2nd leg against Bayern and the all-important Chelsea match over the weekend.
Wake, I hope you run over your own spike strips.
Pre-Family Resource Management? Sounds like knowing which aisle the condoms are on.
Neil Caudle.
Go ahead and get your 19 jersey while they are hot!
In Gus I trus'
So far the comments I am seeing from practices give me the impression that the offense is doing great, but the coaches are not overly excited at what they have seen so far. Jay, seeing that it is the end of our first trimester of spring practice, what is your impression.
Neil Caudle.
Johnny Unitas.
They both wore #19.
One color on the jersey was blue.
Do the coincidences end there?
I think not!
My vote is 70 degrees and UP! Done with living in the cold.
Eddie, any reason for the optimism?
When did LSU start spring practice to be completely done by now?
LSU
Spring practice starts: Feb. 26
Spring game: March 27
That's how.
Well, that's stupid. It was still winter then.
yea....I didn't understand when TT had the early spring game at the end of march and it was really cold
Maybe not in voodoo land.
Les Miles is crazy though.
Have to take that into account.
Plus LSU is serious about baseball.
Didn't Tubs used to start Spring practice early and finish early?
WEG ....Eddie was kidding.
Eddie ....you owe me a dollar.
sorry to break your heart Eddie but..well to put it in the words of a former coach..."Neil is a great Auburn Man".
Not only are they serious, they have a good team, too.
Is that Morris Day? If so, that is stellar.
LSU seems to always be good in baseball.
I guess the HABOTN burned-out on QB speculation during February.
My guess is that Newton and one other QB will exit Spring as Co-#1s and the contest will continue in the fall.
Hoopie- I'm not necessarily kidding. Tea leafs point to Neil having a good shot to land the Starting QB job. If that happens, don't count me as optimistic about the season. Then again, I could be completely wrong.
Morris Day?
Morris Day
That would make for a bad day PF
Seanzie- I'm pretending yesterday didn't happen. Does not look good for the Chelsea Match and 2nd leg with Bayern.
Eddie, I feel the same way about the Birmingham result from Saturday.
Jesse! Ha, now Jerome.
yessssss
Morris Day > Purple Rain > Prince > Prince dunking on Charlie Murphy > Pancakes
That's pretty much how my mind works
CHARLIE MURPHY!
I expect Newton to be named the starter before spring practice ends.
I only wanted to see you underneath the purple rain.
So I guess JGT has liked what he has seen in Newton... that is good news.
Any video coming?
Jay G,
Why the change? I know before you didn't expect a QB to be named until the fall.
I'm very hopeful that Jay G is correct. That will lift my optimism considerably heading into the fall.
Newton is very good. If Caudle is better then he is spectacular, which is great for Auburn. I just don't see it.
Ehyou,
To quote Bender, "I outta kick you in the neck." Don't be dissin Pancakes like that. I support any organization that has all-you-can-eat pancake gatherings. Pancakes get me up at 7:30 every Saturday morning. I love pancakes.
Vanity Fair is supposed to publish a big expose' on Tiger Woods, his women, his cheapness, and the lengths he went to to hide his affair on.. wait for it...wait for it.... the day before the Masters begins.
In fact, I seriously believe Clint Moseley would have been your starter had Newton not signed with Auburn.
and Martha Burke is protesting to let women into Augusta...
I wonder if TIger's story will top John Edwards' which was downright silly and weird.
The book Game Change details that one.
ehyou - my mind works the same way. I love those episodes with Charlie "Darkness" telling his stories.
Moseley? wow.
john Edwards was preachy about fidelity, left his wife when she was undergoing a huge struggle, and promoted his image as wholesome. Tiger didn't talk much, banged a bunch of women that weren't as hot as his wife, and promoted an image of excellence (he was really good at infidelity). Edwards will always be worse. Elliot Spitzer will always beat both of them.
I'd like to remind everyone that last year we all left Chris Todd for dead (in terms of a football career) and the same is happening this year for every QB not named Newton.
I don't know anything. I have no news or scoop.
I just find the parallel interesting.
Where does Marv Albert rank among that group?
I can tell you Tiger is very cheap. One of my really good friend volunteers every year to work TPC Sawgrass for the PLayer's Championship (side note I get to play for free because of it. Pared 17 on, tee shot was 3ft up hill from cup). He usually works in the player's lounge serving. He said he usually gets really good tips. Phil left them $500 at the end of the week. Tiger, not one stinking dime.
Are the other guys this year coming back from major surgery on their throwing shoulder, and not competing in Spring practice?
Tiger> Marv> Edwards > Spitzer
Axually, Pancakes > Tiger > Marv > John > Elliot

PF, I played Davis Love III's course just outside of Sea Island, GA a few summers ago with my dad, uncle, and grandfather. We asked our forecaddy what DL3 was like when he played out there and he said, "Well, he tipped his caddy with a signed golf ball."
I wouldn't tip volunteers, either. They are getting enough benefits (like their buddies playing $350 rounds of golf for free).
I birdeed 17 twice and pared it once. Pared 18, too, despite it being near dark by the time we finished playing 17 three times. Besides that, that course whipped my butt.
Er. That was directed at CH=B
DLIII is indeed a jerk, Wells. I've got two personal stories from when I sepnt my summers on SSI, but don't feel like typing them right now. Remind me later.
You know who else is a Jerk.
PF
He told me he doesn't like me anymore.
That is not exactly accurate, Pig.
I like errybody.
i don't like bammers....except FSJ....sometimes. ;)
The book that Edwards' aide Andrew Young wrote is a trip too..
At least for me, Todd being the starter last season wasn't a huge surprise. This season is different. I have seen none of these QBs play like they would be the man.
I watch Newton in the JUCO championship and he did well, but that isn't the SEC.
Within the next week we should see one or two of the QB candidates eliminated. My guess is Trotter gets eliminated first.
I had been assuming Caudle would be eliminated second, but Malzahn praising Caudle's knowledge of the offense makes me think he might make it into the final two.
My guess is that at the end of spring we will have a QB depth chart, but they will say it can change in the fall.
How do I currently see it?
4) Trotter
3) Moseley
2) Caudle
1) Newton
I'm gonna not comment on that this time.
Why doesn't Jesse James get a mention here? I mean, as idiots go, he has Tiger and Edwards beat hands down. You are married to Sandra Bullock and that ain't good enough? Duh!!!!!
I just learned Jesse James is a monster.
The magazine at the checkout counter of Publix said so.
Jesse James is about as relevant as a cucumber.
PF, my round went the same way. Pared 17 and 18 in the dark. I shot a 92 which I thought that was pretty good considering how much I play. I didn't think the course was all that hard. To me it was wasn't harder/nicer than a RTJ course. Now the facilities and landscaping is what sets it apart.
Your also correct that my buddy gets some pretty good perks, but he also worked hard catering to those guys and needed to be tipped. I mean the guy has earned $1billion.
As for John Edwards being a sleaze bag, who would have ever suspected a politician being a sleaze bag?
As far as idiots go add my boss to the conversation..oh wait did I say this out loud.
LOL PF...
relevant as a cucumber...
If you wanna get paid, get a job!
When did you play it? I thought it was harder than any of the RTJ courses I've played, but it had tourn. rough and narrowed fairways.
