Post-practice chatter, 4/7
Hey everyone. Practice ended a while back. Here are some things we learned.
- As predicted in the earlier blog entry, Auburn held a short situational scrimmage this morning. All I know is that DeAngelo Benton caught a touchdown pass from an unidentified quarterback. That's what linebacker Craig Stevens said. Benton and his strong-armed accomplice beat Demond Washington for the score.
- Guess what? Gus Malzahn still hasn't made any firm decisions at quarterback. They're still repping four guys and seem content to keep strolling down that path for a bit longer.
- There have been some changes at linebacker, though I think they're being done in the name of versatility. Eltoro Freeman currently is Josh Bynes' backup at middle linebacker. Ashton Richardson, a walk-on, is behind Stevens on the strong side. Jess Curry is behind Jonathan Evans on the weak side. Big changes will come down during two-a-days when a few more scholarship guys (most notably Harris Gaston and LaDarius Owens) move into the fray.
- Phillip Lutzenkirchen said he's been working at a hybrid/H-back position along with Robert Cooper and Eric Smith. The way he said it made me think the "tight end" may be a transient concept in Malzahn's offense. That's not to say there won't be tight ends. I just think that job description has become more broad and Lutzenkirchen is being asked to adjust.
- T'Sharvan Bell said he loves playing cornerback. He had been at safety until late last season.

rodeoooooooooooooo
whose coming with?
I'm here.
I got into the broadcast just in time to hear about Messi...I heard enough about/from him yesterday. Yeah, he's pretty good at football.
I'm concerned that Steve FC, which to me sounds like a soccer team, has not chimed in with his concerns for the day.
I remember going to several rodeos. I don't remember leaving a single one.
Present.
norm...
Was the rodeo around back in the stone age when you were in school?
JG - Sounded Great on D&B,
Is it going to be a weekly thing?
Nice pic emmett. I'm guessing his message is directed at the family of former porn star Crissy Moran, right?
Difficult to remember your brain at the mention of Crissy Moran

I like that the Steve FC.
From now own I'm going to assume that SteveFC is an entire soccer team and that will help when reading his responses.
I love it, RK! The Steve FC...
Sportswriter Jay just one word!
EXCELLENT
I really hope that "strong armed QB" was Cam Newton. I have huge hopes for him...the reports of him getting a bulk of the drives in the last scrimmage made me happy...them splitting work equally makes me not so happy. Come on Cam!!!

Wow. Moran Atias is also certainly worth a google.
ehyou - that link for Moran Atias is blocked here you moron.
that's a testament to how good it is norm
Show nuff ehyou
I've never heard any of the other QB's AU has on the roster to be strong-armed.
Well, I just did a Google Image search for both Crissy Moran and Moran Atias since I had no idea who/what either of them were. At a very quick glance of each, not too shabby.
Steve's going to get pissed when I start saying "get off the computer, I want to talk to the goalie."
FYI, the Tennessee Titans caravan is coming to a city near you (in Tennessee & northern Alabama). SenDerrick Marks & Vince Young will be at the Decatur & Florence stops.

JayG-I missed your broadcast today. Had to work and all that, but for those in Montgomery, 107.5 fm is much better than the regular shows we have had to endure. If you want to hear endless dribble about UAt being the epitome of all things sposrts and AU being a 2nd classs program that realy should never field a team, then you should listen to the regular programing on the AM station in Montgomery. The 107.5 crew at least talks about other teams than UAt and AU. By the way, I did hear a nice 15 minute interview with Coach Barbee right before Tate's segment.
the Steve FC Cloggers.
wtc - got a link for 107?
Jay G was on the radio today?
Norm. I think it is http://www.wjox690.com/
I know it is out of B'ham. The station in Pike Road, AL is broadcasting them. They do have fbomb in the afternoons, for now, though. If you go to that site, they have the Barbee interview already archived.
Andy Bitter's line on Craig James:
"ESPN analyst Craig James was at practice, wearing shiny black tennis shoes that appeared to be from the future. I'm guessing Auburn got any and all players it might have had stashed away in the utility closet out of there, pronto."
I really do want to see a picture of this outfit.

WTC, review your most recent postage, there is a type in there that could be taken the wrong way.
Yep, I had to read that post 3 times to figure it out. But I'm slow.
105.7 used to have 'Back in the Day Buffet' during lunch. I doubt I was their primary demo, but I love me some old r&b.
I meant to say Type-O.
sean...
You misspelled 'typo'.
Ha!

slightly random, but I guess we all do it from time to time.
I'll have some substance from Lee Ziemba in a bit. You'll be interested.
The next time you see Malzahn, tell him Steve said to pick a QB, any QB. This is driving me nuts. At least vote one off the island.
Always be careful about believing the hype of a college player heading into the pros...

Oh so it is "typo". I was having a private debate about that over here.
Steve FC! Who is your starting Striker these days?
There are some words that are spelled correctly when mispelled. Tpyo is one of them. Stoopid and Ignernt are others.
CH...
Yeah, I went dyslexic and thought wtc was talking about 105.7 switching to sports talk. Just add it to the list of dumb things I've said.
Remember Montez Robinson? Big time LB from Indiana that was looking at AU and many were high on him coming here. He was kicked off the UGA squad 2 days ago. Had some incident with a female student.
FYI.
Thanks for the heads up on the typo.
So far my guess is:
1) Newton
2) Caudle
3) Moseley
4) Trotter
5) Brent Poole
6) Kodi Burns
Ouch, I remember Montez. Glad we didn't get him, and the female students must be too:)
Man, I forgot to include Rollison. He is my dark horse for the number 7 QB.
Heaven forbid we get to our 3rd QB, let alone our 6th. The good news is our 6th QB, according to FC Steve has SEC game experience.
Where does Meiko Collier fit in to the depth chart?
I have him at 12th between Josh Sullivan & Jon Cooley.
given the blogger.com issues today, and under the assumption that there may be 35 missing posts...
BEASLEY!!!
Close, THT, real close.
