Schedule update
Hey everyone. This serves as a reminder that the Auburn Tigers are holding practice No. 8 (of 15) this morning under sunny skies. I'll be there and will provide a practice report around 12:15 p.m. CST.
I have some other stuff planned as well.
Be there or be oblong.

ya gotta love a post about an upcoming post..
I've got the slowest internet in the world today..
Vivian aka 'The Natural' had her first ever baseball game Sat. 1/2 with a double. The coach that's pitching and I will have words soon if he can't stop bouncing them off the plate to her.
she already has as many hits as I did in my one year of little league. Believe it or not, I batted in the leadoff position. Coach put me there because I had more BB than official AB and I could steal my way to 3rd.
Post about a Post Substance.
ehyou,
I used to be the coach who pitches the kids when I was coaching. It is a lot harder than it looks. Coaches almost seem to try and throw the ball where the kid swings. It is really hard. I also get that it can be REALLY frustrating to watch as a parent.
I was more nervous pitching to 9 and 10 yr. olds as a coach than I ever got pitching in H.S. or Legion ball.
Sportswriter/Blogger Tate - please have a safe drive to the Loveliest Village. I promise I will not be oblong.
Pseudo-substance.
Stu...
The guy throws the ball fine to the guys and bounces them off the plate to the 2 girls on the team. I think it's a sub-conscious deal trying to throw softer to them. Of course there are no walks, you just get 5 pitches.
JG ..a pseudo-thread is just fine. It confirms that you haven't taken that job over at ESPN and left us here.
I'm 6'-3" and quickly learned that the best way for me to coach-throw to 9-10 y/o was from my knees, just in front of the mound. It's unsettling at first because of the closeness. Back in the day I pitched a lot of slow pitch, which required much quicker reflexes ...so ..you know ...
I had that going for me.
Now I'm 54 and have no reflexes.
That brings back memories of my dad pitching batting practice to me. I learned how to not get beaned very well. The man was an excellent 1st Baseman, but a terrible pitcher.
Phred ...same thing with my dad. Don't see as much of that nowadays.
ehyou,
It would be hard for me to throw to girls. It would also be hard for me to watch if one of my kids (when I have them one day) get nothing to hit in their ABs.
I think you are right, it is probably subconcious. I think I would pull the coach aside and just tell him to relax when throwing to your girl. Tell him she is tough and she will hit it. Hopefully that will relax him.
Pull him aside? I'd rather yell at him from the fence. That way if he gives me any lip back I'll be justified in charging the mound.
My dad threw cutters to all of us in little league. He was tougher to hit than any kid because his ball had movement. It wiggled, no kidding it was the darndest thing.
I like the idea of charging too. Kind of extreme, but I bet it would get the point across.
In Huntsville I help ed coach a girls fastpitch softball team. Started with them when they were 9-12 and cocahed them when they were 13-16. This league back in the late 60 and 70 had some of the best athletes I have ever seen anywhere. We won the city championship several times but could NEVER beat the teams from the arsenal consistant enough to win the district.
BTW I coached the Corvettes from NE Huntsville if any of you know anything about the league at that time. Probably not...most of you were not around at that time.
has anyone tried the Motorola Devour cell phone?
THT...
CNET does a good job reviewing electronic type stuff.
I think FSJ secretly loves Auburn.
I used to be a bammer, I converted, best thing I ever did.
If FSJ keeps hanging around cool people like us, he will come around too.
You folks have lost your minds... :-)
THT, in addition to CNET, David Pogues reviews are pretty entertaining.
The HOF got one right by inducting the late Dennis Johnson. I don't feel he ever got the credit deserved.
CH=B, I think FSJ secretly does a lot of things.
THT ..the Devour seems to be a social networking phone. Not sure how well it would work opening spreadsheets, Word-docs and PDFs. ehyou is right about Cnet ....on-point and unbiased.
FSJ is already and AU fan, he just doesn't know it. He's too reasonable to be a true Bammer.
Stu ....I too converted and never looked back. I didn't have the level of Bama hate as most AU fans until I saw how low the Bama Nation character dropped during their coaching woes. Their awful reactions caused me to lose any remaining vestiges of respect.
Avoid the rush! Hop on the Braves bandwagon now if you want to support the NL rep to the 2010 World Series.
ehyou - I've been on that wagon since probably '70. I'm used to disappointment. I'll continue to expect little positives there. Except perhaps Heyward.
If FSJ is such a big Bammer, why does he hang out with a bunch of us Aubs all the time?
Because I'm a glutton for punishment?
Swing and a miss.
THT, you need to write a letter to the West Ham manager, they're precariously close to the relegation zone.
HABOTN is where all the smart bammers in the world hang out.
How cool would it be if College Football went with a relegation type approach to division one, and then made everyone's regular season really tough, it would lend more credibility to the BCS for sure.
i've been on the Braves bandwagon since their first year in Atlanta. I Felipe Alou (my favorite) at 1b, Woody Woodward/Felix Milan at 2b, Denis Menke at SS, Eddie Mathews 3B, Joe Torre C, Rico "The Beeeeg Boy" Carty LF, Hank Aaron RF, Tony Cloninger, Wade Blasingame, Denver Lemaster.
I have no idea who the CF was. Had Niekro joined the Braves by then?
"Daddy, why would anyone be scared of red socks?" Vivian's response to my mascot explanation, which I found pretty funny.
THT...
Yes. Niekro was with the Miluakee Braves for 2 years and 18 more after the move.
Personally, I'm rather fond of old-school nicknames...especially the kind that just on based on like a location, or playing style, maybe even uniform colors. Some of the commercialized crappy names for teams really irritate me...Oklahoma City Thunder anyone? Nashville Predators (full disclosure I am a Nashvegas fan.)
thanks, ehyou.
It's sad I remember that much of the a 1966 lineup, but can't remember what I ate for supper two nights ago.
The Giants win the pennant!!!! The Giants win the pennant!!!!
I've been a braves fan my whole life, celebrated the '95 world series in a hotel room with my entire family after an uncle's wedding. A day I won't forget, ready for 3:05 first pitch!
That reminds me, I've moved since last season. I've got to figure out my local radio affiliate.
ehyou - considering where you now live, I bet they air ads for Red Wigglers, the Cadillac of worms.

A link to keep up with Shon and leave him messages if you wish. If someone would tell me how I would post a link.
SteveFC can repost instructions on how to link. He knows how to do that so that the instructions look like instructions instead of a messed up link.
Scottie B is reppin' HABOTN at Opening Day!
This is an HTML link to where you can learn to do HTML links.
Exactly what are you trying to say Norm. If it's that there are a bunch of backward folks down here....well you would probably be right.
ehyou - I've been there a time or six, that's exactly what I'm saying.
CH=B.... let me do the link thing for ya!
Shon Coleman Well Wishes
two questions:
1. who played CF for the Braves in '66? I think Alou alternated between 1b and CF, but I have no recollection of who was in CF most of the time.
2. what did i have for supper 2 nights ago?
Had some work to, and I wondered how my spreadsheet would look on a 55" monitor. It looks neat. I can sit on my couch and not burn my eyes like I do at my desk.
Currently, HABOTNing in high def.
Sorry to keep going on and on about my new TV.
PF - apparently your new tv is something I missed reading about over the last few days since I didn't bother catching up. What'd you get?
Thanks guys I will learn how to do it.
That's cool, PF. LGG Byron and MrsTHT have done the same with our tv. Sadly, I don't get much "basement time" so I haven't experienced HABOTN-HD yet.
PF ...it may take a couple of weeks for that new HDTV/monitor euphoria to subside. It's refreshing to see you giddy about something.
Should have a JGT practice report soon.
New thread UPZ.
