Barbee snags another big name
Hey everyone. We have received word that power forward Luke Cothron signed with Auburn this afternoon.
Is this a big deal? Absolutely.
He's 6-foot-9 and weighs 220. He has some bulk to him. He can rebound.
Cothron, a Huntsville native who spent last season at a school in North Carolina, was coveted by big-name programs like Kentucky, Connecticut, Tennessee. They all wanted him. Tony Barbee spoke with Cothron the first day he arrived at Auburn and never relented. That effort paid off.
``Luke gives us a different level of talent," Barbee said. ``He is an immediate difference-maker for us along the front line. He is a guy who has the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways inside and outside. He has a knack for being around the ball which makes him a great rebounder."
Rivals.com has Cothron ranked as the nation's No. 11 power forward and No. 45 overall recruit in the nation.
He is Barbee's second signee. The first, small forward Josh Langford, was rated as the state's top college prospect. Not bad for six weeks of work.
Is this the next Pervis Ellison? Judge for yourself.

I was coaching a soccer game. Sorry for the slight delay in getting this news on the HABOTN!
(Substance.)
WHY, WHY, WHY do you swing at balls when the pitcher is all over the map and you have bases loaded??? And then hit into a double play! Arghhhhhhhh!
Thanks JGT. I am very impressed with Coach Barbee!
Sorry, thanks Jay for the post about Cothron. Good substance.
Jay, did you see my post about my blogger account crashing? I am starting all over as a newbie :(
Newbie?
We don't have any way to track seniority here, right?
WHEN we get the NEW BOARD, it WILL track stuff like that.
We're getting a new Board??!!
That kid looks just like Pervis Ellison.
We're WORKING TOWARD getting a new board no later than July 1.
I'm confident we'll get what we deserve.
Great news JGT! You deserve it.
I had a nice, cordial talk with management on Wednesday afternoon.
We left with a mutual understanding about what the HABOTN needs and when we need it.
I'm hoping people are motivated to make the HABOTN even more bitchin'.
Joining the ladies to say that I am loving me some Coach Barbee!
Sportswriter Tate - Details on the new board stuff?
I think all the men of HABOTN have been tasered!
And then there is Norm.......
I can't give details because they don't yet exist.
I'm hoping for some type of message board where Hall of Fame people get certain recognition and access that regular HOTTIES aren't afforded.
Don't taser me, sis!
Uh oh, what if you aren't HOF yet?
Well, dangit. That doesn't help poor saps like me out much then.
I don't like this special access stuff. I do like AU basketball news. Barbee is going to take AU bb to heights never before seen. If we keep him around long enough Auburn will be a SEC/national contender every year. Wishful thinking? Maybe so but I am very excited.
Kathy,
Then you're screwed...even if you've been here forever, which is longer than most of us.
How bout some notable newcomer access.
Yeah, I'm like Kathy - what if we haven't made it to the HOF? I'm feeling a panic attack coming on - being locked out of HABOTN inside info. :(
Story of my life PF!!!
If I'm being left out, I want my $ back.
I've been on the edge of precipice for over a year.......
JG said bitchin'. hehehehe....
Barbee rox.
Bobby Cox & his braves not so much.
another frustrating loss.
aaaarrrrggghhhhh.
scottie,
Did you want to hit David Ross over the head (lightly of course) with his baseball bat?!!!
I want the inside info before that Cincy lady. She just got on here this month.
oh, did JG mention, all ROF's will be given platinum engraved tasers?
get some!!!!!
I will tase the Braves for you guys.
yes Cincy. i've wanted to his him on the head before now b/c he left AU & went to UF but tonite just reinforced it. he did break up the no-no tho. hey, that rhymed. ha.
If taser orders are being placed, I'd like the brass knuckles/stun gun combo thing.
Bring me four fried chickens and a coke.
And some dry white toast please.
Like Aretha says, You better think about the consequences of your actions.
That's all I'm going to say on the subject of tasing.
Four fried chickens?
Reminds me, I had a Double Down (sans bacon), finally. My stomach was hurting withing 20 minutes. It was incredible.
Kathy,
I see several trips to Huntsville in my future. I would love to get together for coffee or whatever! You are in Madison aren't you. You can't be too far from Tyler.
Mr. Cincy and I are moving him up there on Sunday, May 16. Mr. Cincy is coming back to B'ham to work, but I am going to stay until Wed to help Tylerson get settled. Maybe there will be some time you are free on Monday or Tuesday?
i had a grilled one a couple weeks back PF. not the best thing ever but i'll prolly try another.
What's a double down?
Ladies and Gentlemen oh n norm, speaking on behalf of the rest of the HOF I would like to say..... I did not have sexual relations with that woman" oops wrong confession.... Hrurumppp I for 1 think that I will raise my glass to Jay G and say I welcome the New Board withopen mouths, wide eyes and close lips.... Oh and everyone all HOTTIES, big or small, young or old, HOF or Newbbie, should have access to all content..... The End
KFC has both grilled ones & fried ones. it's 2 pieces of chicken with bacon, cheese, & sauce wrapped up as a sandwich. no bun.
Cincy,
Double Down
I just looked up the double down. Looks like something that is right up Mr. Cincy's alley - especially because it has practically no carbs, all meat, salt and fat!
JayG...did your soccer team win?
hey, if this was posted earlier today i apologize....
did yall see where that Spencer Region kid from Cullman has opened back up his recruiting? i love it when a kid says he's still committed but is undecided. it's just silly.
Jake! Elwood!
Thanks for including me Mobilz
I'm going to [another] soccer game on Saturday. The Tampa Bay Rowdies are expected to sell out their home opener. Last week's game at Miami was actually kinda fun. Who knows, I may cheer for Tottenham or something one day. Doubtful, because soccer sucks, but there's a chance.
PF - I thought you stood with me and didn't "watch that crap"?
It's bedtime for Norm. Catch you folks later.
asai sistrunk is Feng's way of saying the Lache Seastrunk will fit in very well at Oregon, but he would've sucked it up and gotten arrested at Auburn.
I don't watch that crap Norm. It sucks. It's a good drinking environment, though, so I'm going to another game to have some booze and watch some fights.
Guy on news just said polynuclearaeromatichydrocarbons...Helooked like someone who thinks they are smart.
Norm,
Thanks for catching the Jake and Elwood reference.
PF...I heard that Miami-Tampa matchup last weekend was quite a chippy affair.
And of course you actually had fun at the game. It's soccer...duh.
PF - but not as bad as the Penguins.
Would you cheer for Tottenham b/c it's considered a Jewish club?
Off to bed so I can get up at 5 AM and do the elliptical thingy. And to check and see if PayPal has bled my bank account yet. I know they have reassured me, but I will feel better when that money is safely back at home in my account. I'm a watching a couple of auctions on ebay, but I'm a little leery of using my account again. Oh well, I'm sure my wants will win out soon and I'll bid!
Not that you care Peter, but by admitting that you kind of enjoyed the Miami-Tampa game last weekend, you've opened a portal for me to exploit your newfound obsession (I assume that's how you feel about soccer now) with the beautiful game.
As such, here's a match report from last weekend's game.
It was a little chippy...The crowd in Miami is terrible. 700 fans, tops, and over a third were Tampa fans. Then again, Marlins games had 200 turn out twice last year.
Best part was when some Miami reserve players decided to walk over and try and start stuff with the Tampa supporters group. Hats were snatched off heads, punches were thrown, cops were involved.
Already read it, E-bro....Tottenham sounds funny, and it's not Arsenal/Chelsea/Man U, but still competitive. Yid Army is attractive to me, yes. I still hate the EPL, though, so I doubt I'll be following anyone any time soon. I don't watch that crap.
Too late PF. I'm just gonna assume you love soccer now, no matter how many times you say "I don't watch that crap".
Ajax, a club in Amsterdam and one of the great clubs in club soccer history, is also considered something of a Jewish club. They won the Dutch Cup today as well.
Also, Bill Simmons picked them as his team, and had a good argument for them.
I'm aware of that, despite the fact that I don't watch that crap. Ajax is cool to me on several levels. They're winners. What you said. They are in Amsterdam. They're named after the stuff that my mom used to make me clean the bathtubs with.
So, if I decide to like the EPL,which will not happen this year, or next year, I will be choosing to hate Seanzie. I like Coke, though. Maybe he'll get a new job with Pepsi or something by then...and become a Bammer. Or I could just continue to hate the EPL and secretly watch soccer leagues that nobody follows.
Yeah, I remember reading that Simmons article a couple of years ago. The problem with that was, as the old adage goes (and I'm sure you know this since you're a big soccer fan), you don't pick a soccer club to follow, it picks you. Man United picked me.
Ajax is cool too, though. The cleaning "stuff" factor is hard to deny (though it's probably pronounced a little differently. Plus, as the architects of "total football", they historically play some of the most attractive soccer in the world.
Tottenham are a bunch of clogging nancies.
Between everyone's ape, Gareth Bale, and that Peter Crouch wannabe, I cannot imagine why anyone would cheer for Spuds.
Yeah, Bale definitely missed his calling as a stand-in on "The Planet of the Apes" remake.
Oh, and PF, I've seen Tottenham play at White Hart Lane.
Be jealous.
Im going to hear Jimbo speak tomorrow evening, he is doing a boosters tour...excited to meet the new ball coach
That should have said everyone's favorite ape.
[Comic Book Guy]
Worst first post ever.
Just kidding. Daughter sports rock!!!
At this point I would be surprised if Regions signs with AU. He made a hasty decision when he announced he was going to AU. He was all UA for a long time and something happened only a few hours (literally) before the presser.
In other news, I think we still sign Dismukes and Reilly.
We may get Regions in the end, but I don;t think he will be solid like Coleman was last year when the big rush came on him. Regions has been pressured a lot to switch. My bet is that he does.
Wait, let me try this:
Seazie, What about Danny Ross? You know, that 19 year old kid who broke your heart last month in his first game at the top level.
Okay, nevermind. I have no idea who any of these people are. Who are the starting pitchers this weekend for Auburn?
WTC,
What's the word on the Arkansas kids?
The Ross kid hit a heckuva shot. Though the keeper probably should have handled it. The season was lost well before the Tottenham match, we just didn't know it yet.
That would be a bummer about Regions.
I realize that he is just a kid and thus prone to fickle changes, but ya gotta wonder why he would go back to $aban after being treated so roughly.
From what I hear, both kids have dropped ARK from their list. AU was strong with Frazier, but have moved to the lead for Cook. I have thought for awhile that AU will get Frazier. His relationship with Gus is pretty strong. Cook has been looking because Regions, Dismukes were on him hard on one of his visits.
I like Bayern Munich.
But the Blues Brothers...pure love.
Hoopie-Cullman is a UAt town. BFF with the Neighbors. You recall they had like 3 boys play at UAt. When he made his announcement, he told (from what I was told then) by the AU coaches if he wasn't ready he didn't need to make an announcement
Anyone who covers AU was not at this presser. JTate, JLee, BMatthews, PMarshall-none of them were there so you know it was a surprise.
Bayern is nice.. Ribery should be at Arsenal...
and you should come across town E-bro to the Gunners; I saw Arsenal at Highbury in'99 with Bergkamp in full glory.
and JJ did it right with Barbee!!!
But Ribery carouses with underage hookers...
so does LT...
True.
look at him now
what do you think about the US in SA seanzie?
Just saw the pics of the Opryland Hotel flooding. WOW!
One final note on recruiting. It is only May. Lots of things can and will change. One thought it that maybe he 'opened it up' to get pressure off of him. Recall Emack was with So Carolina for a long time until he changed at the end. I still think he is headed elsewhere, but this a thought I had about this whole thing. Dmiller-what are you hearing?
maybe regions does not come. his decision was hasty, but i hope he is not in dismukes ear as they were reportedly together at a UA practice right before dismukes committed
oh yeah, i've been lurking for awhile. finally had to post on a soccer note. war eagle
Dismukes said tonight that he is solid to AU. He said whatever Regions does will not change his mind.
It is still May though. I think he stays with AU.
good to hear wtc. hard to remember the time of year when it comes to cruitin
I almost went to see the Nats-Braves last night but decided that it would run too late and I hate to leave in the middle of the game. Nats are looking better this year, of course it would be hard to be much worse.
Morning, Hotties!!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Morning Hotties! It's Friday. Woot!
flotowntiger...you're 'avin a laugh.
Me come cross town to the Gunners? No chance. I'm United through and through. Glad you got to visit the "Library" and see Bergkamp in 1999, though. What a great year that was, what with United winning the Treble and all. :)
Made it up to Old Trafford back in 2005 to see part of our disastrous Champions League Campaign. Not a great time for the club, but I enjoyed the experience. The game was against Villarreal and it was the first home game after Roy Keane quit the club. Heard a lot of "Keano, there's only one Keano, there's only Keano, there's only one Keano!" that night.
Not that you asked me (you asked the other resident Gunner Seanzie), but as far as the USMNT in South Africa, the number of out of form players and not fully fit players is worrying. I know we're in a group we should be caple of navigating, but we generally struggle to break down teams to concede possession to us, which I'm guessing Algeria and especially Slovenia will do. The England will be a huge spectacle, but we'll advance to the next round on the base of our results against the other two in all likelihood.
If we don't advance, then US Soccer will have failed miserably this summer. Can't wait to see how it all plays out. Just a little over a month from now...
As for Regions, given the nature of his initial commitment, there's nothing surprising here. Hopefully we'll still be in play for him late on and have a chance. If not, oh well.
Well it's finally Friday
Good morning all.
Welcome flowtowntiger.
Morning all.
Welcome to flow.
PF - If I have to, I'll the the sole person here who does not watch that crap. I don't like it, I won't watch it. If/when F4* starts to show an interest in it, I promise I'll do my best to divert his attention to something else.
As a favor to your favorite poster, could all you soccer peeps write SOCCER in all caps on the top line of your future posts then skip a line and begin your comment or argument? That'd really help me know I can skip that when I am in catchup mode. That'd be swell.
Norm, I don't watch that crap.
SOCCER
Norm is a ninny and will never know I called him one since he won't read this.
PF loves soccer.
NOT SOCCER, but contains the word
Speaking of the word soccer, I get really angry when Eurosnobs try to call it football, especially when that Eurosnob is American. In American English, the word is soccer...to take a page out of the anti-immagration group's book, If you can't learn the language, get the heck out.
Norm...writing soccer for every soccer-related post becomes something of a slippery slope.
It starts out with soccer, but then it rolls into THT hving to put "HOCKEY" at the head of every hockey related comment or Steve, PF, or FSJ putting "TECH TALK" at the head of every cell phone related conversation.
It ends with michael typing "AJASJKDHASLDJKHASLJKA" every time he posts.
PF ...
Makes sense to me ... does it to you?
(Only Alabama located HOTTIES will get the joke.)
PF...I'm actually with you on that one. I do call it "football" from time to time, but when I do, it's usually a pretty natural use of the word.
I've seen a lot of Americans who call it "football" because they feel they have to prove their fandom for the sport or something. And they often go out of their way to do it, emphasizing every letter and sylable in the word. It's definitely snobbish.
I have no problem calling it soccer. If I call it football, it means I'm in Europe or I'm using it in a descriptive sense.
Yeah, calling a sport that football that actually uses the foot to touch the ball a majority of the time is retarded. The american football sport, where a kicker actually kicks the pall with his foot less than 5% of the plays a game makes way more sense.
BTW- I do call it Soccer also, but when you think about, the logic is messed up.
Eddie, I'm not talking logic, I'm talking about being a proud American. You can go callo it football at EuroDisney all you want.
Good morning hotties. I love the 6ft 9in 220 lbs. of substance this morning.
So, anyone think the Hawks still have a shot?
Braves lose series to the nationals. Playoffs will be tough to make.
EuroDisney no longer exists. Hard to call it football there.
hawks are about to light up the highlight factory and demoralize the magic until they quit the series.
What the heck happened in the fourth quarter last night? You look at the rebound and three point stats for the game and wonder how the Hawks didn't win by 25. Geez!
Eddie's right on the logic, but that's not hard to concede. If it was an argument of logic, it would be over in less than a minute. There is no logic to the naming of football in America, but so it goes.
America can be illogical from time to time. The internment of the Japanese during WWII anyone? Slavery in a republican democracy?
Sees, they can't even sustain Disney. Why would anyone want to side with them?
Losing to the Nationals isn't what it was the last few years. They're over .500 so far this year.
PF- The 1st & 4th quarters killed the hawks. Of Course, Dwight should have had been on the bench much of the first half, but he got the favoritism no calls. That loss was demoralizing. I hope they come back and win at the highlight factory, but I'm just not hopeful. I think the Magic are the best team right now in the NBA. Here's to hoping.
EuroDisney = Disneyland Paris.
IF you are referring to siding with the French...I agree.
Norm, were you posting want ads when you were in LA?
The Magic merely held serve. The Hawks are the better team and will win the series.
Josh Smith does tic me off the way he doggs it at times. Come on man, it's the playoffs!!
Jet - ok, I'm no longer in Alabama but still quite connected to it, but I didn't get that reference.
ehyou - that's not me. I've had a number of brushes with fame, but never with any of those fine upstanding people mentioned. He does make a compelling case for himself, I have no doubt that he was successful.
Jet,
I certainly got that reference. Norm, he referred to a very annoying (imo) political ad. But then, most of them are.
Congrats to Coach Barbee and welcome to the substantial new guy.
War Eagle!
Smezmerizations:
1. If you call it "football," your daddy probably was a part of the Maginot Line.
2. Dan Jenkins was right: the only thing longer and more irritating that pregnancy is the NBA playoffs.
3. Jenkins again: The only thing worse than track is field.
4. In honor of J-Z: Cincy's daughter makes the best d@&^ peanut butter cookies in the state.
5. In honor of Jay G's observation of our new signee's resemblance to the Louisville star Ellison, I suggest we dub the future Tiger star "Never Puke Luke" Cothron.
6. And if you don't like it, you can taze off.
Morning gang,
Soccer - I call it soccer or futbol (pronounced with a long u and o so that everyone around me knows the difference)
Glad to have you talking on the blog flow. Welcome.
Hawks - not convinced yet, they had their chance to win on the road, they probably won't lose at home, I hope it goes 7.
Braves - At one point there was talk of Terry Pendleton taking over when Bobby goes. I know he can't hit for them, but it seems (please note I said seems) that the batting averages have gone down each year. I wonder if that makes them consider someone else for the coach.
Tony Barbee - WOW, just frikkin WOW. He's done more for AU basketball recruiting in six weeks than whatshisname did in the last several years. I'm sure it's only a matter of time when people start yelling that he's cheating, if they haven't already.
And to ALL the hottie moms on the board, I hope you have a fantastic, wonderful, and beautiful Mother's Day.
Love,
tommyd
I second tommyd's last send out to all the HABOTN Mom's...heartily.
Happy Mother's Day to them all.
War Eagle Mr. Dismukes!
Dismukes said..."When he opened up his recruitment, I was already expecting it. Even in the beginning, I thought he would change (to Alabama). I knew he grew up a big Alabama fan and probably felt like he overreacted that day."
Dismukes said that he is "very happy with my Auburn commitment. I'm 100-percent committed to Auburn and that won't change. I plan to help bring in another top recruiting class."
Cincy, any day is good. The old jail in Madison was converted to a restaurant 10 years ago. They are only open for lunch, so we will have to go then. I think you will like it.
http://www.mainstreetcafe-madison.com/
Kathy,
Sounds great. My email is on my profile. Why don't you send me an email and I will send you my cell number. When we get a little closer I will have a better idea of our schedule and we can make plans.
Thanks for the Mother's Day wished to the hottie moms. Although my hotties may be caused by hot flashes :)
Anyone watch 'Community' last night?
Probably the most entertaining half hour of TV programming I've seen this year.
Oh and welcome to the blog cincytiger
happy Mom's day to all our hotttt mom's on the blog. :)
USMNT...may get out of the group stage. If they don't it will be another international failure.
2004 seems so long ago...Auburn went undefeated...Arsenal had the Invincibles...need more of that.
yep, it's been almost 5 years now, Seanzie. I can't wait until 2010. I got a good feeling.
