Some good things about it. Some bad. All in all -- underwhelming.

The video looked great for me. I have been without my landline since Saturday night . No big deal since I get most of my calls thru my cellphone. BUT my DSL has been down since last night and this is unacceptable. Got it all fixed and ready to go. It seems to be working better. Cam seems like a smart young man and I think he will do well for Auburn football.

Scottie,

I remember talking to Sam Rives at Fan day before the 2004 season and he was commenting about he was the only senior not on the poster they gave out to get signed.

11:40 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

funny. he made up for it at the Sugar Bowl then. he was on the front row walking out of the tunnel when the team was locking arms. i have a 16x20 of that and got it signed by 15 players from the team at a-day.

11:43 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Sounds about right.

11:44 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Man, I am so glad that wasn't Cam Newton's voice at the start of the video. I believe it was Allen Iverson. Any player that isn't serious about practice, shouldn't play, yea even if he is the so called franchise player.

Newton seems to have a different view of Malzahn than I do. It appears he must be an intense geek.

Jay, I loved the video quality. It looked great to me.

1:12 PM

E-Bro got his feelings hurt by Jay G, so I called him a ninny. He mumbled some random comeback, then called me one. I called him a bigger one. It was epic.

Blogger WarEagleRK said...

E-Bro,

Did you go to the Alice in Chains show last night here in the Noog? Not sure your musical tastes, but that was a great show.

1:20 PM

Is being a ninny becoming an exlusive subset of the hotties? How do I join?

1:23 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

PF was the one who got his feelings hurt with my ingenious comeback. He tried to mask the pain by being clever. I wasn't buying it.

Chalk another win for the good guys.

1:24 PM

By the way, I like that Newton realizes that he is under the microscope on and off the field. If Mike Price had known that, he would have been much better off.

RK...I missed that. My job doesn't leave a lot of room for mid-week activities unless I'm taking off the next day.

I'm not a massive AiC fan, but I can dig them. A co-worker is going to see them in B'ham this weekend, I think.

Where did they play?

I just read a blog post on the CBS sports page that said the local reports in KC say that MU is headed to the Big 12 and it could be announced as early as this afternoon.

And so it begins.

2:50 PM
Blogger CHB said...

I'm ready for the fun to begin. I'm not against expansion.

Any see the 2010 US News and World Reports college rankings? Auburn is tied for 39th. They are the 3rd rated SEC school. This is for public universities only. I think that is pretty good. It seems each year they slowly creep up. I think in part because of the higher standards to get in. Does anyone know the current ACT/SAT score requirements?

Hypothetical - The Big 12 and the SEC each expand to 16 teams. Does this in any way aid in the argument in favor of a playoff system for a championship? Discuss.

3:06 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I don't think expansion works as well for the SEC as it will for the Big 10+1. The Big Ten Network will benefit from more schools in the conference. The SEC won't see that benefit with the ESPN deal.

Oil spill talk was enlightening. Who knew that BP will be bankrupt in a year and re-form at PB?

3:08 PM

Norm, I think the super conferences would simplify a playoff system. If you don't win your conference championship game, you aren't in the playoff.

3:39 PM

UK wonders why no one is interested in their football program. Most High Schools put more into a spring scrimmage and the media production than they did.

And while we are on it, this Coach Cal and the one and done recruiting is a travesty. I don't know which is worse, the one and done recruiting or the kool aid drinkers in Lexington who think that this is somehow good for college athletics and this is the way to long term success.

And I like the decision with Cam Newton. Great choice.

How about Ben Tate? What a guy. I am so proud for him.

4:57 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

THT, there is no doubt that Beasley was a great one and a large reason that Pat Sullivan won the Heisman. Beasley had legendary toughness. Although I was very young at the time, I believe in one Iron Bowl he received a concussion in the first half. Did he quit? Heck no. He walked it off and came back and kicked Bama butt in the second half. Beasley was a man and one of the tougher players I remember.

5:14 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Wait, you were very young when Beasley was playing? So, you're barely old enough to be my dad? Geez.

Conference expansion is evil, but I'd love to get Georgia Tech back in the conference. We lost a great rivalry there.

Blogger Unknown said...

I agree Nova. Georgia Tech is on my wish list.

I would also like to complement the Chiz on his use of hands while talking. There is some skill there. He is a few finger movements away from sign language.

If we went to 16 teams, I would want GT, Clemson, Texas and FSU.

That being said, I'd rather no one expand past 12 teams.

6:11 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Something just reminded me of my wife's idiot uncle trying to convince a couple of us that our single button peak lapel tuxedos were not at traditional as his rounded lapel piece that went out of style almost as soon as rap stars and athletes brought them in in the 90s, and would be going out of style soon. I had not enough to drink yet to handle it properly, so I walked away.

6:20 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

If we went to 16 teams, we would be two conferences in less than 5 years.

What's the point in that? (rhetorical, as there is no point)

6:23 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I don't know what you just said, but if rap stars wear something, it should be avoided

6:24 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

The point is that semi-relevant old dudes feel the need to do something major that will leave their mark. They just can't help trying to fix something that's not broken.

6:27 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Wake,

Basically, I chose my tux because I didn't want to buy a new one every couple of years. Stupid uncle guy bought his when it was trendy (or more likely, after it was trendy, and on a sales rack). Mine was traditional and timeless, and he tried to convvince us otherwise in hopes that we wouldn't notice how stupid he looked.

6:30 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I find it highly unlikely I will ever buy a tux. If I plan things out right, I won't ever wear one again.

6:44 PM
Blogger Miller said...

You people misunderstood my hypothetical the other day regarding expansion....

I prefer to stay at 12... if we want to strengthen the SEC, there are ways of doing so and stay at 12 teams.

IF other conferences decide to expand beyond 12, I believe the SEC will do so accordingly, and further strengthen its hold as the supreme conference.

My feeling is that if Mizzou heads off to the Big 10+ then The Big12- may come after Arkansas... which is perfectly fine with me...
Georgraphically, I think adding Clemson, GT, F$U to the SEC would be good competetively.

BUT, the point to expanding beyond 12 for other conferences is to increase the almighty $, increase the footprint, spread out, bring in new markets.
IF that happens, then adding Clemson, GT, or F$U does zip, nada, zero for expanding the footpring, adding revenue, adding new markets for the SEC... we're already in those markets.

6:53 PM
Blogger Miller said...

There is an extra 'r' in geographically... please ignore it..

6:56 PM
Blogger digger4au said...

No expansion "period" if other conferences feel it necessary let them go for it. The only change I would make is swap South Carolina for Ga. Tech. And that probably won't happen.
Why in the world would you want to mess up a great thing just becasue someone else feels the need to try someway to catch up with the SEC.

Was watching a college football show on ESPN2 that comes on each night about 6:00pm CST. They have Robert Smith and Bob Davie as two of the guest and some ESPN guy as the host.

Davie thinks Colorado goes to the PAC-10 and Smith thinks Mizzou goes to the Big 10.

They did say the Big 12 does not split the bowl money up evenly and Colorado was not real happy with it

7:11 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Did anyone else see that show. At times they were scrolling a top 25 ranking across the bottom and I missed it several times. it was not the final ranking, as they had UGA at #23. It seemed each time I saw it I was catching just the final 8 or so positions. is there an early poll out that is not some guy just posting what he thinks. This one looked like it was an ESPN poll for the 2010 season.

7:14 PM

Just back from Tiger Prowl. A beautiful day for a great get together with the Auburn family. Coaches that attended were Luper, Trooper, Thigpen, Lolley, Grimes, Matlock, and Fortner. Coach Fortner is a great speaker. She told some great stories about the change in Auburn after these football coaches arrived. She also talked about cooking pancakes for the coaches. You can tell she has a great relationship with all the coaches. Of course, Luper was Luper, and Trooper was Trooper. Quite entertaining. Great crowd. I didn't meet any other Hotties.

8:24 PM

They also talked about our new QB! They said Coach Fortner helped in his recruitment. When he took Cam to the arena when he visited Auburn in December, Coach Fortner stopped practice so the girls could meet him. Cam was very impressed that she stopped practice for him. Coach Fortner interjected her story. She wanted to know if we had seen Cam. She said she had 18-21 yr old girls. When Cam walked in, she said she had no choice but to stop practice! But she said she was happy she could help the football coaches!

Let me get this straight ... Saban is whining about our bye week before the Iron Bowl.

UAT is playing GEORGIA STATE, which has yet to play its first game. The Cousin Humpers could play their third teamers and win comfortably. After all, we heard repeatedly last year that UAT was working on Florida the week of the Auburn game.

If Saban or Mal Moore or Mike Slive calls Jay Jacobs and asks him to consider changing the schedule, I hope he responds, "Guess how many fingers I'm holding up."

Then hang up.

Morning all. This oil spill is really getting on my nerves. Not only is it harmful to wildlife and possibly devastating to the coastal economy, but it is ruining my chances of a Memorial Day beach vacation. I have so been looking forward to that vacation.

the class action against BP from every business that fails directly because of the oil spill is going to be interesting. the oil spill will probably be in the court system 30 years. hopefully when BP is faced with the possibility of losing their US market they will do the right thing.

Article posted in the Athens GA newspaper stating that the NCAA has limited the number of coaches to visit a high school simultaneously. They specifically mention stretch Hummers, limos, and extravagant buses.

i think they should still take the caravans to each of these towns. they can always park at a mall or something & then the coaches can go to the schools in pimped out Escalades instead of limos. :)

"institutions are unnecessarily expending resources in order to have multiple assistant coaches attend..."

Evidently it is now the NCAA's responsibility to determine how athletic programs spend their money.

I had to contact Snopes.com about that grandma/grandson thing. No way that can be real.

Now, that's making progress.

So now we have a Chizik Rule.

Lil Nicky predictably got real upset and verbal about the Saban Rule. I'm betting Chizik has no comment.

Ehyou did that "anti Tiger Prowl with limos and hummers " article mention anything about helicopters?

Apparently Carver-Columbus had 3 "entourages" visit the school this week. I can see where this could be disruptive to the HS. I could care less that the Big LEast whines about schools spend excessively.

9:19 AM
Blogger wtc said...

Interesting article. What did Luper say in Montgomery? 'Have you ever seen a dog bark at a parked car?'

Let them shout all they want. The limo, hummer, etc. never went to Ark, MS, SC, LA did it? Why did AU get top players from those states? Hard Work, that's why.

9:21 AM
Blogger CHB said...

Great point WTC. Here is a way around that rule. Take the fancy bus to the city. Then break up the coaches into smaller groups. Have each group make the rounds to every school that the larger group was going to hit. Does this really cost that much more than each coach out on his own at the same time?

PF..going to a different beach isn't really an option since the oil is expected to affect a large area. Plus we have a free condo to stay in if we go to Orange Beach.

Blogger ehyou said...

Blogger CHB said...

No where in the article did it say they can't use the buses and limos. Just can't have more than two coaches from the same college visit a high school in one day. Why does the Big East care what the SEC does. They can compete regardless. A comment on the article made a good point. These coaches can't talk to the specific recruits so what's the harm?

10:05 AM
Blogger CHB said...

Where is everyone today?

G or anyone else who may know, help me with a couple questions about the new "Chizik Rule".

1. I have read more than one article on it and have not seen where the rule states you can't use limos of buses. Those two things have been mentioned in the article but not when the specific rule is stated.

2. If I am reading the rule correctly it states there can't be more than 2 coaches recruiting a player at his school at the same time. Correct me if I am wrong but they are not allowed to contact the players so therefore are they really recruiting?

CH=B,

Depends, actually. It might significantly affect any beaches we care about at all...there's always Myrtle Beach/Charleston/Savannah/Jacksonville. I don't think the oil spill will affect those beaches. At least Memorial Day.

Anyone who can't make it to the beach on a three day weekend is a ninny.

PF, maybe you didn't understand my post about the beach. WE HAVE A FREE CONDO TO STAY IN. That's pretty significant. Plus we are very fond of Orange Beach and it's not just me. I have a wife, daughter then the in-laws and some other family planned on going. So it's not that easy to just change plans.
