Reportage from the ground in Mobile

Hey everyone. As you know, Auburn's Tiger Prowl extravaganza hit Mobile yesterday and our ace representative, AUnMOBILZ, was on hand to witness the spectacle.

Here are some of his pics from the event.

Da Prowler.

Chizik's head is bigger than ever.

They're still using limousines.

Our own MOBILZ and Curtis Luper.

Hoopie...so true. But the circumstances surrounding the death of the one on a motorcycle were freakish. They were on the interstate, traffic was stopped or slowed down because of another wreck, but another guy just came out of nowhere and ran into the guy on the motorcycle and killed him.

Can't remember if they just didn't see him till too late or what and not sure how fast they were going.

I just read on the Press-Register sound offs that the Braves should have kept Kelly Johnson because he's hitting .300 and hit 7 dingers in April.

NEWSFLASH: Kelly Johnson barely hit .200 last year and was a black hole in the lineup.

Oh, Kathy, we need to talk! :^)

Yeah he's had an OK April, but his replacement is hitting for a higher average and has a comparable OPS. 2B is not the Braves' problem.

Hot Wife does no yardwork and I'm ok with that. This still doesn't stop me from ragging her about it whenever we're driving and see a lady outside working in her yard. Though, I think I've convinced her that she and F4* will help me put out new pinestraw this weekend. That should be fun. I'm responsible for all things garbage and recycling related. I also clean the kitchen. I pick up after myself and sometimes wash a load of clothes. Other than that, she has her hands quite full with F4* and the rest of the household duties. I take over most of F4* duties when I get home to give her some relief. This all works fairly well for us.

Thanks for the pics Mobilz. There are companies that pay people to let them wrap their car in the company logo. I wonder if Auburn would do that to my truck. That would be a great promotion. It would be better than the billboards because it's ever moving. Anyone know who I could contact with that idea?

Norm, I mess with my wife all the time too about yard work. I don't really expect her to do any, but when I see neighbor hotties out doing it I wonder why my wife can't. It would be nice if she would just come out and check on me. Heck even grab a chair and watch.

Wake, it was the same way with my kid's highschool in backwoods North Carolina. It seemed we had a kid killed at least once a year in an auto accident near the school. One time it was a girl on my daughter's softball team. The kid was only about 14 or 15 years old. Her brother was driving.

Wake...exactly. Obviously I'm incredibly sad for the family, but for me it's a sting of numbness more than anything.

Having not talked to the guy in probably over ten years, it's not as if I'm suffered some great personal loss here. But like you said, someone you use to know isn't here anymore and that doesn't quite compute.

2:45 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I'm not sure what the stats are at my old high school. I just know three who have passed, whether by auto accident or the recent rafting incident. I'm sure there are others who have passed, I just don't know them.

There was one other guy who died shortly after I graduated who was riding on a boat and as it was going under a very low riding bridge he stood up and his head slammed into the concrete, and he died a few days later.

2:50 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

High School kids that drive have traffic accidents and some get killed. It is due to lack of experience, but I am not sure that not allowing them to drive until they are older would help matters. It is purely a matter of experience. Heck, recently I have had issues driving. It is a matter of paying attention and knowing what to watch for. It doesn't even matter if you are doing what you are suppose to do. It is also anticipating any creative driving others may do.

The drag racing stories I've heard from both my mom, who went to school in New Orleans, and my late Father in Law, who went to school in Savannah are pretty crazy. Both went to private schools with a bunch of well-to-do kids who had AWESOME cars in the late 60s. Dead man's curves, walking trees, and general driving over their heads by some of the fastest production cars in history took the lives of more than a few of their classmates.

One of the best parts of Tiger Prowl is the Bambi response to it. It really doesn't matter what that response is. If it gets people talking about Auburn, it has worked. So, the more people who don't like it and take the time to comment about it, the more successful it is. That is my type of ironic irony.

I can't find anything about a current/impending AU hockey club. Whoever posted that info on the prior thread, please speak up.

This was posted on Topix forum yesterday.

"I'm one of the starters of the Auburn Ice Hockey team the next upcoming season. We are waiting for our constitution to be passed to officially be a team. We WILL be playing in Columbus as they have a new year round ice rink being built. I played youth with alot of the UA kids and am really excited to play against them. Hope to have alot of people come out to the games! We are hoping to schedule a preseason exhibition game with UA next year so search around when the time comes and come support the Auburn tigers!"

Just put myself between my dog and a very interested 7ish foot alligator. I'm not sure if that was stupid or courageous. At any rate, heart is racing. I wish I had a bow or high powere pellet rifle. It just ate the sticks I threw at it to make it go away. Guess we'll be walking out front tonight....and on a leash.

I will not live in FL... or even SE corner of NC. I do not intend to live where something would want to have me for dinner. Gators scare me, except the wimpy ones in Gainesville.

I'm with Cincy, the terms prison and corn hole should be banned from appearing in the same post.

I would also suggest that no one google those terms together as I just did.

THT- I was the one who mentioned the Hockey. By all accounts, its a go as a club sport. Home Ice will be in Columbus supposedly. Here is a brand new Facebook Fan page, but several are talking about it and they are searching for a volunteer coach.

my MacBook has just gone nuts in the past 24 hours. When I'm typing in this window, the cursor may suddenly disappear and the page jumps to the bottom. Or if I'm typing email, lots of text will suddenly be highlighted and then vanish, while I'm typing. Or the cursor will jump somewhere else in the paragraph while I'm typing. This is first serious issue I've had since switching to Mac ~20 months ago. Any Mac Hotties got ideas? An Apple expert should be calling me very soon. Maybe it will be JGT ;-)

THT, the ones in Gainesville are gaytors, different species without much bite.

PF, if that gator didn't run from you, report it to animal control. It's lost it's fear of humans and that's dangerous.

NoVa,

It is definitely not afraid. My brother was fishing out there Sunday and it came all the way up to the bank after him.

Today, it saw me and the dog playing in the side yard from across the lake, and came flying over. I was amazed at how quickly it honed in on us and made it's way across to where we were. I noticed it, and was trying to get her in. She thought I was playing still and started running towards the water to get away from me. We're really fortunate that she reacted to the quick change in mine and my wife's voices and ran inside. I've never been scared of an alligator. I was scared today.

Tht,

Does your touchpad have a button (like a mouse button), or it one of the newer ones where you click a phantom button? It sounds like you've been eating ice cream while playing on the interwebs and something's stuck.

PF - that's funny! I'm about to scoop out a bowl. It has a regular ol' track pad with a bar below to click. My battery probably needs replacing, but since the bizarre behavior happens when the macbook is plugged into an outlet, I doubt I can blame it on the battery.

PF - you need to get yourself some new shoes and a new belt, and your wife a new purse, or you may have to get a new dog.

Mark Emmert -- an old friend of Nick Saban's -- named NCAA president

The man who steps into one of the most powerful roles in collegiate sports just happens to be an old friend of Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban.
Emmert formerly served as chancellor at LSU and was the responsible for hiring Saban as the Tigers' football coach in 2000.

Just because it's plugged in doesn't mean the battery isn't bad. Wife recently bought a discount battery online (without consulting me, mind you). Her laptop was as likely to malfunction and shut off when it was plugged in as unplugged. We returned the battery and bought a decent one, and everything is back to normal.

Hmmm.... interesting. Thanks for that info, PF.
I'll send 2.0 or LGGB to get a new battery tomorrow. This one has gone through 467 cycles and "Full charge capacity (mAh): 4266" is less than 80% of what it should be.

D Miller,
Answer to your tweet:

Dirty Birds. They are awesome. Tailgating is interesting at the Georgia Dome. There's lots of really good food and loud music. The Dome itself is close to you and a pretty decent place to watch football. Having "your" NFL team win isn't important anymore, but they've got a chance...maybe. But, as long as your fantasy team dominates, you won't have to worry about the actual team you cheer for following suit.

Then again, there's always the Who Dats. They're champions. The tailgating at the Superdome is almost identical to the tailgating at the Georgia Dome.

I hear gator tastes like chicken. It's eat or be eaten.

THT, try checking the keyboard and mouse control panel on the System Preferences under the Apple menu. Reduce the tracking speed. If that's set too high, it can cause the cursor to jump around.

If you have an Apple store nearby, you can make an appointment to have a "genius" look at it. I've used them a couple times, once a quick fix and once a real repair.

I hope the Coyotes are, too!

Of course I watched Chuck, cutting away to the Habs during commercials and full-time after Chuck was over.

Right now I'm hoping the old Czech, current Coyote, and former Penguin (and Bruin, and Capital, and Red Wing, and Blackhawk, and Canuck) Robert Lang can have a huge playoff game in the twilight of his career. Also pulling for that '96 Penguin killer, Ed Jovanovski.
