Gene Chizik speaks in Montgomery
Hey everyone. I have returned from the Montgomery Auburn Club shindig, which was held in the very upscale-ish Renaissance hotel.
Thanks to Ronda Beesley and Stan Maxey, MAC stalwarts, for being there for me.
I also want to give another shout-out to WEG. That's twice in a week!
OK. OK. So what did Chizik have to say?
I'd be happy to share those comments with you.
Thanks to Ronda Beesley and Stan Maxey, MAC stalwarts, for being there for me.
I also want to give another shout-out to WEG. That's twice in a week!
OK. OK. So what did Chizik have to say?
I'd be happy to share those comments with you.
- On the NCAA's decision to ban Auburn's "Tiger Prowl" barnstorming tours to high schools: ``We don't really put a whole lot of time and thought toward why rules are made up. We obviously follow the rules. With the SEC or the NCAA, whatever they are, we follow all the rules to the best of our ability."
- On if it's a good thing (as Trooper Taylor expressed) that the NCAA is curbing Auburn's enterprises: ``I don't think of it in terms of that at all. We just follow and abide by whatever legislation that they make. That's really what we do."
- On if his staff will begin brainstorming some new ideas: ``We're always going to do whatever we can to market Auburn and Auburn University football. We'll always do that. When we get done with this recruiting season, we'll go back and revisit it and look at what it is that we could have done better. We try to do that with every phase of our football program."
- So do you meet at a big table or what? ``We do. We throw it out on the table and see who's got what."
- So who is your MVP when it comes to ideas? ``I've got a whole room full of MVPs. It's really a great mix. There are a lot of creative ideas and creative minds in there. Guys really know their trade well. They know 17- and 18-year-old men and what gets them excited."
- Is there a synergy between what you all do and what Tony Barbee is doing with basketball? ``I know Tony is going to be really great at the recruiting area of our basketball program. We've already gotten together and worked together and talked through some things. I think there will be a lot of parallels between what we try to do and they try to do."
- How can you help them? ``Anytime there's a basketball recruit who's interested in Auburn -- just coming to the football end of it and coming to a game-day experience. I think that always helps. When you can come to an event that shows the passion and the tradition of a place, I think it really open the guys' eyes."
- Does that actually work? ``I think so. I think you work as a team with all of the basketball-football-baseball guys. It's all one, big family. We always try to cross over and help in anyway we can -- both in knowledge of where players are and what we can do to help … with recruiting."
- What's the latest with Big Cat Weekend? ``That's kind of down the road a little ways. We're in the premliminary processes in terms of getting ready for it. That was a fairly successful weekend last year in our opinion. We don't know exactly where we're at with it right now in terms of how many, who is coming. We feel really good about it going to be a really good weekend."
- Do you find that last year's publicity makes the prospects come to you and ask for an invitation? ``I don't know if they come to us. You always have to go out and seek them and energize them enough for them to want to come. Last year's success certainly helped."

Don't tase this page.
I'm done with the conversation. I recognize that tasers are not completely safe, but neither are condoms. My friend was wearing one and he got hit by a bus.
Condoms are supposed to save you from busses, though.
It's a Mitch Hedberg joke.
And apparently they don't save you from overdoses though.
Don't tase me Bro.....
PF ..your arguments against the ability for law enforcement to maintain order with lawbreakers, reminds me of my inane arguments demanding "privacy and rights" during the misguided recreational drug use phase of my youth.
That person with the badge has a dangerous job. You "stop" when they say "stop". If you don't stop then be prepared for some form of force. If they aren't allowed to stop you, anarchy would soon prevail.
Mostly only lawbreakers have a problem with this arrangement.
The USA is much more lenient in these situations than most countries. Go try to run from the law in Singapore!!!!
Join us next week on "Wake and PF debate somewhat relevant issues" when we'll be discussing whether or not Pluto should be considered a planet once again.
Should I question everything I ever learned in Science class?
I'm just proud of myself and PF, that there was no mud slinging in this debate.
That's because you're both douchebags ... I mean, reasonable HOTTIES.
Hoopie,
Anarchy will one day prevail. I can't wait. I'm gonna get a bunch of guns and shoot bammers.
Surely there is some Auburn sport going on that we can talk about. Or another possible commitment to Auburn? Any additional news on Cothron?
Braves are losing...again.
PF ... that's not anarchy ... that's ... that's beautiful, man.
"Reason" is the foundation upon which the HABOTN's greatness is built.
That and our hatred of the those intolerable of other people's culture...and the Dutch.
But if you and a friend are wearing condoms, it's safe to share a needle.
Or so I am told.
I'll take repeated tases, as long as I get to shoot Bammers.
Okay Cincy, how's this? It got a little play on here earlier, but not nearly enough I feel:
Auburn Basketball signed Luke Cothron today. Hoo-ray!!
Or rather, Cothron WILL sign with Auburn.
Did he sign? Jay G hasn't said anything. Last I heard, he committed and was signing tomorrow, but I really haven't been paying attention.
E-bro read my mind and answered my question before I asked. Creepy.
PF ...
It's not creepy. It's an amazing talent that Ebro's has ever since he got tazed for having 11 items in the "10 items or less" line at the Food King.
Cothron should be signing tomorrow.
Can we tase weeman?
Jet = Omniscient.
Crazy.
I didn't tell anybody else about that.
You know Nietzsche says from chaos comes order
Also I find it nice that I'm not the only person that's heard Mitch Hedberg
Nietzche also said I'm too drunk to taste this chicken. Whats your point.
Aw, blow it out your @$$, Howard.
Me and Michael saw him perform drunk at Auburn. Others, too.
mytommyd, I saw him in person one time. He was hilarious.
The funnies comedian I ever saw in person though was Dave Chappelle.
Auburn used to have some great, free acts. Do they still do that?
Yeah they still do CHB.
From what I was told, Hedberg wasn't drunk, it was more along the line of what killed him.
Jim Breuer was pretty funny when I saw him at Auburn. He's one of those comedians who relies more on high energy than clever jokes, but I laughed...a lot.
Yeah, Rudy Giuliani was there last night ... I heard he had 'em laughin' their heads off.
Whatever he was, it wasn't sober.
Had the pleasure of seeing Mitch, Dave, and Lewis Black in Atlanta when they all went on a Comedy Central tour together. My body hurt after Dave Attell's show I was laughing so hard
Way to kill the thread tommyd
Wake is wrong!
This thread got tazed, and it's been out for 30 minutes.
y'all wasted all that time talking about tasers when you could have been watching PengWINS!!! Hockey!
But it's not too late for some hockey. Sharks & Red Wings just started OT on VS.
THT,
Do the Bruins win tomorrow?
I sure hope so, PF. I do not like the Flyers.
At all.
Sharks vs Red WIngs is a sucky series to me. How can I cheer for the Sharks? They are an uninspirational franchise. How can I cheer for the Red Wings? They are an evil franchise. I'll just abstain.
I always choose uninspirational over evil.
Axis of evil: Caps*, Flyers, Red Wings - not necessarily in that order
*Displaced the Devils last year.
The Penguins are in my axis of evil.
SHARKS UP 3-0!!!
what's not to love about the Penguins, wake?
THT, I would rather tase my self than watch hockey.
I like going to the Stardome here in bham. Any area Hotties ever go? I saw Frank Caliendo a couple of years ago. He is pretty talented.
CH=B - that's funny. MrsTHT would rather tase you than watch hockey, too.
My Axis of Evil:
UAT
Hugo Chavez
Clowns
I just never liked them growing up. Don't really know why. I hardly watch nowadays, but when I do I just can't pull for the penguins.
Jet - You were referring to Evil as a proper noun. Of course UAT is at the top of that list. Wake, PF, and I were just talking about ordinary lower case common noun evil.
I should say they are in my axis of the ungood.
My axis of sports evil:
UAT
UF
Patriots
Yankees
Red Sox
Hugo Chavez isn't really evil. He's pretty funny. He just doesn't have anyone to tell him what to do.
Everyone's favorite South Park episode, Gnomes, is coming on my local CW affiliate right now.
I want to go ahead an claim my stance on next week's topic: Pluto is definitely not a planet, though I wish it were.
Pluto should be a planet so I can believe all the other crap I learned in high school. It's a wonder I can think at all.
I'm watching history channel show about Hekla volcano in Iceland. Fascinating stuff for a nerd like me.
THT,
There is no spoon.
Hekla can be seen erupting on this 1591 map of Iceland
PF, your wrong, and I'll tell you why next week.
Those colors on the Iceland map are so vivid, I bet they used Kodachrome film for the photo.
The fish were a lot cooler back then.
THT you've been fooled. My 7 year old cousin colored that last week. It was in highlights.
D. The Hyena or sea hog is a monstrous kind of fish about which you may read in the 21st book of Olaus Magnus.
The narwhal
A. is a fish, commonly called NAHVAL. If anyone eats of this fish, he will die immediately. It has a tooth in the front part of its head standing out seven cubites [ells] which amounts to about eleven feet. Some have sold it as the unicorn's horn. It is thought to be a good antidote and powerful medicine against poison. This monster is forty ells [fore-arms]
Wow-what a conversation.
I think I will keep my opinions to myself on that one. Why? because they are mine and they are right for me.
Ok, I can read the writing on the wall.
No more map history drivel.
Sweet. Wtc agrees with me.
You know what means sure death? An eel up the rectum.
It's bedtime. Somebody taze me and let me sleep for 8 good hours.

Simon says good night
Cothran signing Wednesday is a HUGE get for AU. Look how far this class recruiting class has come since Barbee took over. AU will be a young team next year, but I think they will surprise several folks by how athletic they are. Look for this team to rebound VERY WELL. Cothran is the real deal for AU. Do not let anyone else tell you they did not want him or whatever. AU took a BIG step forward by getting him.
So the kid from UGA (QB) that got kicked off the team, has been banned from ever again coming to Valdosta, GA.
Also interesting is that his mother works for the UGA athletic department. I am sure he made her proud the day Richt had to kick him off the team.
wtc - should I order my Final Four tickets?
I didn't realize they banned people from towns anymore.
THT-no final four just yet. I can see AU getting to the big dance in 2 years though. I can see AU being very competitive in league play.
Wake-I heard on the radio today that the judge actually banned him from the town. Sad that he made such a bad mistake.
He is looking at Cincy and possibly West VA as a transfer. I bet one of them will take a chance on him.
Here is something from Chris Low's (ESPN guy) list of things that came out of spring practice:
Best quote: "You look at coach [Nick] Saban's first year at Alabama, and he didn't win against us, and now all of a sudden, they've won two years against us, and you hear all sorts of things, like they're going to own Auburn the next couple of years. I'm telling you … that's not going to be the case." -- Auburn linebacker Josh Bynes.
Get some.
I'm sure I'm the only person watching the Ray Mariners game. But it is a laughable defensive performance by the Mariners.
I just downloaded the soundtrack to the chase scene from Bullit, beautiful beautiful sounds.
I participated in the first Flash-Rave at the RBD library tonight. 3000+ students crammed the entrance and listened to techno for about 15 minutes. Aubie, The BK King, Gumby, The Green Man (Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame), and yours truly were all part of the crowd surfers.
Gumby
Aubie
Good morning. Time to go home yet?
I wish.
Good morning all.
WTC, on the Cothron subject, I have a friend at work that is a huge UK fan and he says they didn't really want him. Everything I have seen suggest they did. Not that it really matters, but if programs like UK wanted the kid then he is probably as good as advertised. If we get some consistent PG play this year we could make a run at the tourney.
I wonder if Coach B can get the fellas to start making their free throws.
Good morning Hotties, it feels like we're going to challenge Stanford for the sports title this year... or would it be for next year?
I saw a flash bike mob the other day in Coral Gables around closing time...Probably a few thousand kids on bicycles appeared out of nowhere and took over the streets.
Barbee's FT improvement program:
Miss an FT, get taken out of the game, get tased.
Now THOSE are consequences!!
Catching up on the threads from last night and I have an Auburn/equine story.
We're in Birmingham several hours before the Iron Bowl and assembling for the road game tiger walk. The Birmingham Police Department pulls in nearby and unloads their Mounted (horse) unit. They try to disperse the crowd by having their horses high step sideways, which they are trained to do. A mounted cop looks down at the Auburn Man standing next to me who is holding his ground and says "Sir, do you see this horse here?".
The Auburn fan, wearing orange and blue sweatshirt, ball cap, and holding a shaker, responds in our best Ag tradition - "Well cowboy, if you can't ride em, don't rope him". Our crowd laughed at the comment and team arrived shortly thereafter. The police dispersed.
Anyone been tased today?
I could use a good tasing to wake me up. 75 mile drive to work in my sleep. zzzzzzzzzzz...
How 'bout them Pens!
Not yet RK. The day is still young, though. I did get frisked as I came into work today, though.
Congrats, THT, on the Pens.
Nothing like a good early morning frisking.
Bro- Stop showing up to the Nuclear Power plant looking like a tourist at Disney World with all your cameras and that may help you in not getting frisked.
Thanks, E-Bro.
I'm about 30 miles from Flora MacDonald Academy. Maybe I should drive over and give Luke a huge WARRRRRR EAGLE!!! and HOTTIE HO!!!
Yeah, I make one little joke about sharing nuclear information with Iran and they freak out.
...
Plus, the metal detector I walked through was broken. So it goes.
i haven't been tased yet but it's early.
75 miles to work? THT that's nuts!
hopefully that's not a daily thing.
Scottie B - We have BuyMore's in several locations, so I have commutes of 11, 13, 11, 25, and 75 miles. The longest is only 2 or 3 times per month.
I got tased this am for shooting 2 Bammers.
Hmmm... wonder how long these shakes will last?.....I'm ready for round 2.
I like what you did with "BuyMore's" there THT.
It's Chuck-tastic.
cool THT.
speaking of 'Chuck', this season has been fantastic. just love that Yvonne.
Yvonne is a fine looking woman.
HAWT!
hoopie should have received a $50 best buy gift card and commemorative trophy. he was just one short of the hat trick.
Yvonne?
Howdy Hotties - I was cut loose from jury duty today. That didn't stop the almost 2.5 hour round trip though before Fulton County gave me the good news. So, here I sit in my comfy chair at home not going to work for the man at his palatial digs. Though I will do a bit of busy work for him. I'll also do some yardwork and get that out of the way.
Thoughts on various posts since I left yesterday afternoon:
EHYOU - I contribute to the economy thereby keeping people employed doing what they do best. Sure, I can change my own oil (and have many times), could probably have fixed what ailed my mower myself too, but I put a $ value on my own time and sometimes opt to pay someone else to do things for me which they can do quicker than I can.
WAKE - I've always been a big supporter of law enforcement. My brother in law was a detective in the Gump before he died, I have many good friends also wearing a badge. I even toyed with the idea of being a cop myself but for one reason or another didn't. I also used to want to be a cowboy, a fireman, professional baseball player, and a lawyer (not all at once) but they never happened either. I'll pull over if the lights come on and I'll never run. I may be able to outrun one guy, but I'll never outrun all of his friends who join in the race.
nice, but it's more like THIS.
If you don't run
you don't get the gun (laser that is)
If you lip
you don't get the bip (night stick that is)
So keep it cool and they won't bring the tool.
i don't like bleach.
Ellie is better.
Chuck has not made it to my tv viewing rotation. No reason, it just didn't. I've watched it a time or two and enjoyed it. Maybe I'll do a catchup on it. The chick is certainly nice, but I think This chick from V is WAY HAWT. Of course, that show will probably be canceled anyway.
can't complain about Ellie THT. mrs. scottie is a blonde. i must show allegiance to bleach or i may not wake up in the morning.
that V girl was on Smallville for a season as SuperGirl. i can't disagree Norm.
Ellie too is a fine looking woman, but I'm still impartial to Yvonne.
Anyone else having probems viewing comments after #200?
Nope. Never mind. Just me.
European soccer players are strange.
API, great story.
Work filter is blocking me from the link, PF.
What does it say?
ugggghhhhhh
Oh, yeah, the title has some negative language. One of the Sevilla players scored a goal, and his teammates piled on top of him. As they were getting up, one dropped down to the grow and bit the scorers...ummm, manhood.
That's slightly odd (sarcasm alert). I watch Sevilla a lot, but missed that one.
Who was the player?
I don't have any idea what their names are. I don't watch that crap.
There's a nice way to say I don't watch soccer. Try some of these:
"It's not for me."
"To each his own."
"Not a big fan."
I have more if you'd like.
And seriously, does the article not mention any names?
Nah, it's just a video of the incident.
After further review, tt's from 2001. Francisco Gallardo biting Jose Antonio Reyes.
The V-daughter like to take off her shirt. I'm OK with that.
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was
manufactured in England .
In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for
delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the
great ship after its stop in New York .
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever
delivered to Mexico .
But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York .
The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly
awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss.
Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning,
which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs
each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as - Sinko De Mayo.
OK ..I know it's corny ...save the smack.
or "I have arms, therefore I don't pay any attention to soccer."
PF, I'm with you. I don't watch that crap.
Yeah, was wondering why I hadn't heard about some incident involving Sevilla players. That it happened in 2001 explains it.
Don't know Gallardo, but Reyes is a player of some note. Played for Sean's Arsenal team a few years back.
Not that you or anyone else cared to know any of that. But yeah, biting another man's groin to celebrate scoring a goal. It's not for me.
Norm...refer to my 11:55 post. Or the end of my 12:06 one.
Failing that...get some.
Bro - I'll put a finer point on your statement, biting another man's groin for any reason whatsoever is not for me. In fact, I don't care to be anywhere in the vicinity of one without a urinal wall or something separating it from me.
Soccer was invented so the women folk would have something to do while the men were out fighting wars.
PF...I'm not sure that's accurate.
It's a quote from King of the Hill.
Golf and Nascar are legitimate alternatives to sleeping pills. If you watch either of those, you really shouldn't be hatin' on soccer.
I hate chocolate, too.
Don't make me tase you.
What if there was a rule in soccer that you could taze one opponent one time during a game?
Would that make it more interesting?
Don't tase me, bro!
Tasing would make any sport more interesting.
Jet...I'm pretty sure that would make anything more interesting. PF might even approve of it for soccer purposes.
I could watch vids of people being tased all day.
Is there a mandatory 3 day waiting period to buy a taser? I may go get one today. I don't have any particular people I want to deploy it on, but I could see myself using it on a certain Akita.
I'll bet Saban tases his assistant coaches twice a week.
If you could taze 3 sports figures, who would make the list?
Nick Saban, Alex Rodriguez, Ray Lewis.
That's not in any particular order.
oooh, good question.
i'd have to think on that one a bit.
Sabarpoleon, Paul Slimebaum and T. Owens.
Apparently another fan ran on the field in Philadelphia last night, but they didn't taze him.
He stopped running, however.
Nick Saban, Barry Bonds, T.O.
Special media category: Paul Finebaum, Eli Gold, Stephen A. Smith (if he's still around)
Wow, CH-B. All three of yours made my list. Great AU minds think alike!
Saban, Saban and Saban.
might be old news, but Cothron says he's coming.
Seanzie's Honorable Tase List: Didier Drogba (I'll give him something to dive over), Big Ben, Peyton Manning.
that's what they say Scott.
I like Barry Bonds though. That's probably because I am a Giants fan. I can certainty see how someone would not like him. I didn't like him as a person, but what he could do on the diamond was special. I know people want to say he cheated, but he was great before that. Also steroids can make you see the ball the way he could. There haven't been many who could.
Tim Brando
Lou Holtz
Mike Patrick
Hoopie,
Hee-hee.
Thanks for the history lesson. Now we know why margaritas do not contain mayonnaise.
Ooh, Tim Brando...that's a good one.
Bonds was a great player, but a jerk, and didn't need to cheat.
Not for any hateful reason or anything b/c he seems like a decent guy, but I'd tase Roy Upchurch if given the chance.
Preferably with about 1:30 left in the 2009 Iron Bowl.
Pf - about that soccer vid -- I've been trying to figure some sane reason that the dude would bite the other guy's johnson. Other than being gay, I'm left with nothing.
Not that there's anything wrong with that
Yep.
Do dun dun dun du dun da. Da dun dun dun du da.

HABOTN is not working for me, I'm hoping posting will fix that.
Very Vierd
It looks fine to me.
Hey PEEPS.
I just had a meeting with my top editor about the HABOTN and how we can go OVER THE TOP (Sly Stallone style) with it.
I'll fill you in here shortly.
Auburn? Quiet right now.
I know how you can bring HABOTN over the top. Give away free stuff, and ban schmucks like Peter Frankenschmidt.
Don't ban them, just tase them.
JG, did you tell your editor that the HABOTN > every other crappy sports blog in all the land?????!!!!!
just thought he should know.
OVER THE TOP! GET SOME!
JGT sounds great to me. It really doesn't need anything but jazz away.
Well, just got 12 emails saying PayPal was confirming payment for things I DID NOT buy. They caught it after $600 has been instantly transferred from my bank account, but before it got dispersed. Now I have to wait for it to go through and then transfer it back to my bank account. I thought PayPal was supposed to be safe!?
yikes! that sux Cincy. i use Paypal all the time. not good! not good at all!
Saban, the next UAT coach, and Bear
yep, I'd dig him up to tase him.
I want the taser that "goes to eleven".
Nothing is safe. Ever. Tasers aren't safe. Paypal isn't safe. Puppets certainly aren't safe.
Been out of town.... trying to get caught up...
Not sure if I gave my thoughts on the tasing subject... but, I say tase them once while running on the field so you can get them off, then tase them again for being an idiot. Also, the Dad of the 17 year old that got tased for running on the field in Philly... yeah, that dad should get tased too for giving his son permission.
If I could tase 3 sports figures... Bud Selig, Sabearpolean, Finebaum...
On a happier note...
HAPPY CINCO de MAYO!!
And, Happy Anniversary to my wonderful, beautiful wife!! 3 years... wow, seems like foreve... I mean just yesterday.
Everyone should be tased at least once in their lifetime... at some point we've all done something stupid to deserve it.
I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on lasers, phasers, and razors.
Gotta have sharks with frickin' laser beams...
phasers are played out...
Now, with he razors, are you referring to a straight razor to shave with (or slice)... or the little skateboard replacement thing that the punk kids ride? Well, the punk kids that aren't cool enough to ride a read skateboard.
That's great, Miller, but really J-Z just wanted some recommendations for getting rid of his back hair.
hot wax
Miller, don't knock the razor till you try it. My neighbors kids had one. That thing is pretty tough to get use to. Just getting started is hard. it can roll in all directions and swivels at the same time. I got pretty good at it. Then I think I pulled something.
Well, mishap #1 for the evening... I tried to time it just right and have wifey a hot bath run when she got home.... apparently I have misjudged the timing. I wonder how she will like the cold bath?
This doesn't bode well for my mahi experiment.
"Mahi experiment"? So that's what you call it in the Miller house? Do you also play "doctor"? I bet you do.
I bet he looks for ticks after a walk through the neighborhood after dinner.
ESPN pre-season ranking for college football.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=schlabach_mark&id=5143606
I really don't disagree with that ranking that much. I think that ranking will look much different by seasons end.
I am thinking that if Boise St beats VaTech, they will be in the BSC game and no matter who else can go undefeated, they will not play in the NC game. Think AU in 2004. I see something like that happening this year.
I can't disagree with that ranking either. I do think everyone is over looking Auburn but what's new.
Totally off subject and of little interest I'm sure.
I will be gone deep sea fishing Thurs through Sunday. Staying in Orange Beach but had to go to Destin to get a boat out. Won't be on the HABOTN till Sunday.
Looking forward to seeing what JGT has up his sleeve.
Good luck with the fishing.
How did they know ET was a chelsea fan?
I find it ridiculous what the Phx Suns did tonight with their jerseys. For one I have a different view than their ownership, but the main reason is because I don't think a sports team/owner should use their product to push their political view. Over half of Arizona residents are in favor of the recent immigration bill. The Suns are lucky people even came to the game.
Free baseball in D.C.
Bedtime for Bonzo
I can't leave with it being this close
Sorry PF
Yippee ki yay
