Media Days: OFFICIATING
He's the coordinator of officials.
- We'll soon learn what the points of emphasis are this season.
- He looks just like Hal Baird. It's uncanny.
- The NCAA has gone to a two-year, rule-change process. It takes two years now. (ie rules are changed/adjusted in odd years only)
- This is the "off" year, so there are no rule changes to discuss.
- However, changes can be made if player safety is at stake.
- It is now illegal to form a three-man wedge to block for the kick returner on a kickoff. We're talking about wedge guys being shoulder-to-shoulder and within two yards of each other.
- It's a 15-yard penalty (from the spot of the foul).
- "What we're telling coaches is: Get that third man out of there."
- Players who are injured in a game and the game is stopped for the injury, cannot return until medical personnel clear him.
- The replay booth is now using an HD feed.

Scottie, congrats on 4! The missus and I will be celebrating 3 in 2 weeks.
First!
Oh and first. Anniversary substance.
Drats.
Let the blogging festivities begin!
I hope the interwebs are working correctly today.
JGT - did they do anything to improve internet access for y'all?
Is he related to Rogers Hornsby?
We should impose speed limits on football players to promote player safety.
Congrats Scottie!
Now, I'm going to miss the wedge.
Internet access, at least now with this room about 25% full, is GREAT.
Mr. Redding, let me get this straight. There's no rule changes, but a 3 man wedge is now "interpreted" to be illegal according to an existing rule. Spin it any way you like, but that drastic of a change in "interpretation" is a rule change to me. This interpretation would be aimed at increasing player safety.
well, here in the big house all the guests must be updating their facebook pages cause the internet here is very very slow
Congratulations Scottie B! Here's to many more happy years!
JG ..what is it with Bham and the internet? The Hoover ballfield had awful 3G service during the SEC baseball playoffs. In fact, when travelling through the area on I459, we lose good 3G from the Winfrey until we get close to Turdtown.
I still don't like the 40 second clock rule. Give me back my 25 second clock snap clock and a game clock start on snap - please.
Weren't they talking about a new rule regarding celebrations and taunting and such? That it would now be a spot foul. It was a very subjective rule. Is that a new rule or not?
My in-laws live up 459 towards Tuscaloosa, the exit right after 150 in Hoover, and I always get great 3G through there.
thanks for all the anniversary love.
now, my dilemma....take mrs. scottie out to a nice dinner or show her how much i appreciate her anniversary gift by playing NCAA11 for 4 hours tonite? decisions, decisions....
Wow, the injury requiring medical clearance can halt some alleged fake injuries when a team is out of timeouts.
Wonder what determines the "medical" personnel that have to clear the player to return? The trainers? An SEC appointed doctor that has to come down from the booth? That's about a 10 minute difference in time before the player can get back in.
Scottie- I don't really believe their is a decision. If no dinner, I think you maybe scotch taping that game back together.
Seanzie ...Last night while wondering where you've been, we discussed that you are still an idiot ....so I'm not sure I believe you.
I'm with Eddie on this one. A nice dinner and a nice gift commensurate with the one she gave you. I think diamonds are nice, or pearls are good, too.
If you hope to ever get another as a gift, dinner.
Game that is.
New thread UPZ.
David Langner!
