Getting Our Bearings

Hey everyone. So as you have surmised, I was asked (politely) to make Wednesday my last day of work at the Advertiser. Nobody should be upset with the Advertiser; they are keeping to their word and sending me on my way with what they agreed to give me. No hard feelings.

I am hopeful that Brian Woodham, who recently left a part-time gig with ITAT to take a full-time job as a copy editor at the Advertiser, will be given an opportunity to take my old job. Brian would be a great addition. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.

As I explained on Facebook, we will have a board at AuburnSports.com with a stricter standard when it comes to cussing and any off-putting shenanigans. Personally, I'm good with the Bunker and have read it for a long time. They get a little upset when things don't go well, which is understandable, but I feel like that board's reputation for savage commentary far exceeds reality.

With that said, we will have a HABOTN-esque board over there for people whose tolerance for cussing is at zero. Just want to make that clear.

I'll be starting at AuburnSports.com on Monday.

Take care, errybody. Thanks as always for your support!

So, there are two cliche phrases that I use that people don't get. One is "there is more than one way to skin a cat." That one is apparently only used by 50 year old southern people. I get MORTIFIED looks when I say it. People think I'm a serial killer or something (if you were wondering, I'm not). The other is "gone the way of the buffalo." That one is usually accompanied by blank stares, though I did have an old blind guy bust up laughing and state "what do you mean, you're going to be executed by cowboys shooting from trains?" I can only hope for such a lovely death.

I can't believe it's snowing!

1:16 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

That's not snow. That's ash from Mt. Caldera.

This is it. The End has begun.

rats, and we're only 5 days from Christmas. I'm going to try and catch the 5:30 lunar shuttle tomorrow morning before everything just implodes.

In the meantime, I actually have some work to do before I'm eligible for parole.

Blogger Norm said...

Christmas already? Wow, how time flies. I've barely begun to think about taking down all of our Labor Day decorations.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

What is that pleasant odor. Is it a Christmas tree?

But we can still get some new page smell. Maybe that'll help a bit.

Blogger bigdaddy334 said...

Love that new smell!

9:40 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Ahhhh, new page... smells almost as good as the fresh Christmas tree we cut last week.

Norm's takes a page flip right out of Art's book.

Better than a BOOM! would have been a BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!

2207 AD - Our bones are all still rotting away. Hoverboards are finally common.

2:09 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

My bones will not being rotting. I plan on a date with death in a Scottish Bog.

SUCKAS!!

5:21 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

2209 THT XI will be posting BEASLEY!!! at the appropriate time on Hv88

Old maps will be in vogue once again.

The new Accidental Mummies exhibit at the Eurasian Museum will include a strange looking dude found last year in a Scottish Bog.

7:18 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Well, you got the dude part right.

8:40 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Will a map purchased today at a local bookstore, gas station, whatever be considered an old map and thereby "in vogue" in 2209?

5:59 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Probably depends on the map. Are we talking a Disney Park map or downtown Troy?

These things matter.

9:07 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Well...a map of Downtown Troy could be printed on a single 8x10 piece of paper and provide about all the detail one would need.

9:30 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I asked THT, one time, about what he looks for in old maps. He claims that he typed out a really long response but chatroll killed it.

So, you know. I don't know.

11:16 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Hate to see that. I was doing some good work over there. Not 100% quality but it was pretty good.

But I get it. I'm down.

nowadays, I look for value. Bought a real old map at 1/3 retail value a few weeks ago. Got one in June at 1/2 retail value. I know when I eventually sell my maps to pay for all the pills I'll need when I'm (more) elderly, I can at least get my money out of these two maps. If I'm lucky, I might even make a little.

Blogger bigdaddy334 said...

How late are y'all up?

4:25 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm usually up to midnight or later. Last night the prior weekend trip and subsequent late nights caught up with me and I gave up the ghost about 9 pm

Stanford @ Washington. Whoopty-do. Game starts at 5 pm PDT. That's a weird time to start a game on a weekday.
