Getting Our Bearings

Hey everyone. So as you have surmised, I was asked (politely) to make Wednesday my last day of work at the Advertiser. Nobody should be upset with the Advertiser; they are keeping to their word and sending me on my way with what they agreed to give me. No hard feelings.

I am hopeful that Brian Woodham, who recently left a part-time gig with ITAT to take a full-time job as a copy editor at the Advertiser, will be given an opportunity to take my old job. Brian would be a great addition. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.

As I explained on Facebook, we will have a board at AuburnSports.com with a stricter standard when it comes to cussing and any off-putting shenanigans. Personally, I'm good with the Bunker and have read it for a long time. They get a little upset when things don't go well, which is understandable, but I feel like that board's reputation for savage commentary far exceeds reality.

With that said, we will have a HABOTN-esque board over there for people whose tolerance for cussing is at zero. Just want to make that clear.

I'll be starting at AuburnSports.com on Monday.

Take care, errybody. Thanks as always for your support!

A Bammer friend on FB posted something about the Honey Badger. I responded with that he always seemed a bit like a thug.

She then started on about Michael Dyer and what did I think about that. What? Don't the Bammers have enough stuff to look after.

Lesson learned. Do not talk to the Bammers (FSJ excepted). It just leads to aggravation.

That's the kind of stuff I'm wondering. You have to think, with the slooooooooooow NCAA involved, he's done for the year regardless of what happens.

But I don't know if this means he's done at Auburn or they just work some stuff out. No one on 2.0 seems to have any insight at the moment.

I think MrsTHT just signed us up for barbecue judging course on the weekend of AU bye. Makes me wonder if an AU fan was involved in the scheduling.

Speaking of 'cue (and we always should), we just tried a place we didn't know about..Hillsborough Barbecue. The pit-cooked barbecue was absolutely SUPERB. It's a crying shame they didn't have some decent slaw to go with it. It's an unusual place that offers your choice of any of the 3 slaws available in NC bbq joints: white, yellow, red. I can tolerate any of them, but the plain ol' mayo slaw is my favorite. Unfortunately, this joints slaw is poisoned with celery seed which ruined the flavor. And since I always eat my 'cue with a half bite of slaw and half bite of 'cue, the whole 'cue experience was a bit tainted. Still, by itself, that was flat out awesome barbecue.
They also have squirt bottles with "Eastern sauce" and "Western sauce". The 'cue didn't need either (good 'cue shouldn't), but I tried one bite of each, the Eastern was definitely tolerable, the Western was yucky sweet.

It's definitely closer than Hursey's so I may have to pick up a family size container of 'cue and have MrsTHT make the slaw for it.

Re: the History of the Dividing Line referenced in the above link, engravings were made in the 1730s for the intended book. Since the book was never published, neither were the engravings. Amazingly, the copper plates survived and were discovered in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University in the 1980s. In 1988, fifty prints were made from the engraved copper plate of the Dividing Line. If I figured out how to share correctly, you should be able to see #44/50 here

1. there may have been more to the manuscript map (which I haven't seen), but that's all that was printed. There are also a lot of lower case letters marking things, so it's possible the numbers and letters on the map correspond to some other key. You're going to make me actually read the book, aren't you?

2. I don't like when AU's first game is not on campus. Not. One. Bit.

11:09 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I didn't mean to say it was never published...the Dividing LIne book was not published in the 18th century. By the time the book was 1st published in the mid 19thC, the engravings intended to illustrate it were long since misplaced, not to be found until the 20th century.

11:20 AM

1. Yeah, I think you're gonna need to read the book.

since we're now talking about gypsum on habotn.com, maybe we should talk about polygons on 1.0. Speaking of which, I don't think I ever determined if I have a favorite polygon. Is that a decision I need to make before I die?

How could you narrow it down? There's so many of them.

I like 8, but octagons don't do a whole lot for me. How about quadrilaterals? Count me among the fans of isosceles trapezoids.

How about a apeirogon?

1:49 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

well, as long as you don't get into an apeirogon polyhedron. You start talking about Plücker coordinates and screw axis and I get dizzy.

I deal with boolean operations a fair amount. Apparently they're used for computer graphics (boolean operations on polygons), which makes sense. But that ain't my thing. Computer graphics that is.

What the heck was that about on 2.0, AllenD?

Thanks to that handy-dandy rain gauge I put up a couple of weeks ago, I can now confirm for you that the ~15 minute shower earlier this afternoon produced 1/10 of an inch of rain at my house.

You're welcome.

sissy rain. How appropriate. ;)

I'm a fan of hyper cubes, also known as teseracts. But y'all are talking about 2 dimensions not 4.

I have a planar brain.

3:18 PM
Blogger NoVaTiger said...

You should broaden your mind.

3:21 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Well that leads back to string theory. They (well some of them. I'm not an expert so there may be some dissenters) say we have 26 dimensions. That's a lot.

And the show has reached a new low...

Did you just lose some serious talent on your current musical production or something?

4:49 PM
Blogger NoVaTiger said...

Maybe we should find something simpler to discuss to satisfy Norm. How about those Nats?

it's a stretch, but it's all I got after botching the 888 post.

Let's change the subject so Norm can participate. My favorite musical of all-time is Les Miserables. My favorite character in said musical is Eponine. Phantom of the Opera is a distant second and I don't think I have a 3rd favorite. I'm not into musicals as much as Norm.

It's a stretch for me to think of any I've seen start to finish, but I like little Opie Cunningham singing "Gary, Indiana".

For my money, it doesn't get any better than when Romeo sings that soliliquee at the end of Act II during "Cats"

6:07 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm allergic to "Cats". Now if they ever make a "Dogs" musical, I'll be barking for a ticket.

6:10 PM

anyone who sees Les Miserables...assuming the cast is talented...and doesn't like it is just not human.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" is a chill bump inducing favorite song. One day I suppose I should see that, maybe it's on Netflix.

so, ya think we can get this think to 2K by next week?

6:30 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Of course we can. That'd be a record.

That was dicey there for a minute. Norm almost had to apologize to art.

The Sound of Music is the best musical. There is no voice better than Julie Andrews in her prime.
