Getting Our Bearings

Hey everyone. So as you have surmised, I was asked (politely) to make Wednesday my last day of work at the Advertiser. Nobody should be upset with the Advertiser; they are keeping to their word and sending me on my way with what they agreed to give me. No hard feelings.

I am hopeful that Brian Woodham, who recently left a part-time gig with ITAT to take a full-time job as a copy editor at the Advertiser, will be given an opportunity to take my old job. Brian would be a great addition. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.

As I explained on Facebook, we will have a board at AuburnSports.com with a stricter standard when it comes to cussing and any off-putting shenanigans. Personally, I'm good with the Bunker and have read it for a long time. They get a little upset when things don't go well, which is understandable, but I feel like that board's reputation for savage commentary far exceeds reality.

With that said, we will have a HABOTN-esque board over there for people whose tolerance for cussing is at zero. Just want to make that clear.

I'll be starting at AuburnSports.com on Monday.

Take care, errybody. Thanks as always for your support!

Suspended....?.. or as I mentioned elsewhere: he gets retitled Reese Dis-pukes after he pulls stadiums from now until Thursday.

Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

I guess it could depend on the story of how he got his PI. If it involves him and some dead babies, yelling "Bo stunk" on Toomer's Corner all night while peeing on the trees then yes maybe he should miss a game, and seek psychiatric help. any normal stupid college stuff, no suspension. heck you don't get suspended for failing a drug test.

If it was alcohol only and not terribly much and if he was just basically acting the fool, then I don't think much comes of this to concern us. It'll be addressed but I can't imagine it's that terribly large of a deal all things considered considering who's involved. If my initial assumptions here are incorrect then all bets are off.

I'd suspend him in a heartbeat. For the first 3 games at least. Inexcusable. Absolutely inexcusable. Not only was he drunk, but I doubt he's 21. If he wants to do that as a regular ol' college student, that's one thing. But not as a member of an Auburn sports team.

- It is "shots week" at the goat farm in Idaho. What started as a way of immunizing the goats over the course of a week back in 1997 has devolved into a drunken haze of tequila shots for 7 days straight. Although disease is up within the community due to the lack of immunizations, they tend to reproduce more as a result of the tequila. So it's all the same to me.

Re: Dismukes... if he is under 21, I'd also arrest whoever gave or sold him the alcohol. If RD doesn't fess up, then charge him with obstruction of justice.

12:14 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

THT, this kinda thing usually means there was more than that going on even. The cops basically slap you the most minor of charges just so you know you got in trouble.

But you're right about him being under age. Chizik can't hide behind "circumstances" when it comes to that particular part of the story.

The media is really interested in his next move I assure you. You think they won't write how dabo sat his kid but chiz was more concerned about winning? Then they'll sift through all recent player issues.

I think he misses some game time.

I thought we signed Tunde a few years ago to boost our team GPA. I never expected he'd get a chance to play. I bet he still won't. I expect one of the other OL will slide over to center and they'll bump up a 2nd team guard or tackle.

I want toto lnow more as I issue judgement- but my vote is:

Run him nearly to TE playing weight... then sit him the first series.

Then he's running some more next week too.

If it was truly ONLY public intoxication, make sure he understands how much good will he's burned. Limited damage, how many kids consume alcohol on a given weekend in Auburn?...does it make it right, no, ...but if this is first offense I'm not running over him with the bus.

5:07 PM
Blogger Jet said...

A strong message had to be sent to three different groups:

1. Reese and his family
2. His teammates
3. The AU family

Chiz is handling this one correctly.

7:05 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I hate to lose his playing time, but its the right thing to do. Chizik has been here long enough to get everything ship shape. No more bidding time for talent.

shirley these kids coulda learned from what happened to Dyer/Pike. And i bet a large amount of money that Chiz & Co.,during one of these suspensions, had a team meeting with priorities as the main subject. I think most of these kids just live with the delusion that either "they won't do that to me" or "I won't get caught". It's kinda mind bogglin when ya think about it.

3. Hoopie - he's gotten 0 pub/trophies, and he's a great student that hasn't gotten in trouble.

4. bubbs - I already said we would start out the season with a sub par OL. So this either plays into my prediction, or I'm pleasantly wrong.

5. Norm - because he's a bammer. So this gives him another chance to talk bad about AU.

Errbody bringing the heat over here today.

Been busy. Haven't even made it over to 2.0 yet. Well, I mean, it's open in a tab over there, but I haven't actually read anything over there.

Some of the radio dorks were talking about how AU has a "cultural problem" with the behavior issues. What do you guys think? I'm not really buying it. Yet.

11:30 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Starting with the Trailer Park 4...it seems like we've had a plethora of player discipline problems. And I bought into that a little this past weekend when I heard Dismukes got arrested.

Then I thought...we're defending Fulmer Cup champs and we've barely garnered a mention in this year's edition. Zeke Pike (no longer here) and Dismukes...is that it? And both more for citations than bringing on charges against themselves.

A lot of the other bad press surrounds players who have not been arrested (Benton and Dyer), both of whom are gone (or I have strong doubts that we'll ever see Benton again in an Auburn uniform).

I'm guessing if a bunch of other players from SEC schools had to testify in court, they'd also admit to smoking synthetic weed. I don't think that's an issue exclusive to Auburn.

So no, I guess I don't see it as a culture problem just yet. I think it's time to take action, and I applaud Chizik for suspending Dismukes. There's still no excuse for that beheavior. Hopefully the message gets through to Dismukes and the rest of the team. If it doesn't, then ask me if we have a culture problem and I might feel differently.

We've got some things to sort out, but I don't believe the situation has reached critical mass yet.

11:46 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Disappointing certainly, but I'm nowhere near frantic or to the point of throwing in the towel and giving up on the team.

12:15 PM
Blogger bigdaddy334 said...

We always get a few players suspended each year, but all we are told is they broke team rules. This year the media is finding out what rules were broke. I am not that worried until we have a guy in jail all week and gets out on Friday and plays on Saturday.... then we have a problem. Because we have hired Bobby Bowden.

If it makes you feel any better, I think Clemson only has 40 something with their O-line.

Plus, our inexperienced O-line will at least be going up against an inexperienced Clemson D-line. The same can't really be said for Clemson's O-line (although our D-line might still be young, it does have a year's experience).

Blogger bubbs said...

How about our DBs? They've got an experienced QB and capable receivers. They carved us up like a Thanksgiving turkey last year.

2:14 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I'm hoping our D-line can disrupt Boyd's rhythm enough to more or less neutralize the passing game. I'm guessing our DBs have improved a good bit since last September.

I sure hope so anyway.

2:23 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Boyd no longer has his favorite target available for our game. With the attack mentality our D is going to take, I'd expect him to be hurried and harassed a good bit. while looking for an alternate receiver to be open.

I'm not worried.

How many turn overs in the game?

I think I'd put the over/under at 3.5

Blogger bubbs said...

Hey Norm,

Who do you think Bortak is? Just curious.

4:43 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Not a clue.

If you're referring to a post of mine from a week or so ago, I don't know that anyone we know by another name is also playing the part of Bortak. For all I know, Bortak is a singular individual. I just posed a theory, I have no evidence one way or another.

But, I do know that in the past some folks with whom we're rather familiar with as "ABC" (whatever, not ABC literally) have also come along and posted as "123" and stirred things up. is Bortak one of those instances? Dunno but it's seems certainly possible and perhaps likely to me.

4:51 PM
Blogger Norm said...

The idea of it is amusing to me. I wish I were original enough to pull it off myself. I like to think of the possibility of someone like say THT* sitting behind his keyboard giggling maniacally as he posts as Bortak, Mark, Opie, whatever just to mess with folks minds and get 'em all riled up.

* - THT used for illustrative purposes only, I have no definitive information that THT has used an alternate "alias" on us. Well, except for that one time. Oh, and the other. But that's it, no evidence at all. Just an example.

4:56 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

It is certainly possible.

I have to say, some folks really let him(?) get to them. Which I guess is why it's fun for whoever it is.

Evening Norm, Bubb and THT/Bortak*

One day until football - woo hoo!

I'm flattered. Alas, I don't have enough sense to do that. I'm still peeved (nothing to do with MJT's dog) that I'm stuck at work tomorrow night and won't get to watch the game. AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

At least it means MrsTHT and I can celebrate her b'day together on Friday by going to look at maps and get home in time to watch UT vs NCSU. Wow, she's gonna have an awesome b'day!

Guess I'll be check'in in on the campfire early...see if there's smoke.

Why is it that thing suddenly went to a max 10 participants? Because it wasn't using Premium charcoal?

Bortak is a nuisance. I don't mind people posting controversial things, but posting for the sole purpose of irritating people bugs me.

THT, I love sharing a birthday with Mrs. THT.

Cincy,

That's why I ignore him. The fewer responses the less motivation. Although I often have the urge to.

You guys reminded me that I have a couple birthdays to prepare for soon. Aside from Cincy's and MrsTHT's that is.

Jet's partially correct. J-Z is on my VERY short list of probable Carmela creators. The list as I recall it had 2 names each of which has been mentioned in this post.

Norm, I still think you are watching the Log on this thing, waiting to see who's jumping online.

It's on a different page from the one I'm seeing, so I don't know how you're doing it.

Hmmm,...trying to decide menu for some football watching tonight. No JV game tonight, wife's got Bible study, maybe wandering down to the Club..that way no driving necessary..just have to bring something home for the wife.

do have a growler of something on standby.

I've still got some BBQ in the freezer that I did a few weeks back, but I think I'm saving that for tomorrow's Tennessee-N.C. State/Michigan State-Boise State twofer when a couple of friends will stop by.

Thinking Armando's for one of the best burgers in town instead. Have cider and Tennessee Whiskey on standby.

Norm: so who have you actually confirmed to have multiple aliases on HABOTN?

10:06 AM
Blogger Norm said...

100% confirmation from the source? Mr. Sensible/Sensi or whatever his most common name was confirmed to me that he posted as an alternate alias but I can't remember who that was it's been awhile. Actually, he may likely have maintained a few different aliases.

Of course Homer was also Criminal Type and whoever else but that wasn't a secret.

I strongly suspect others but only have that one admission.

10:10 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Check that. Another regular confirmed for me that they've done it a time or two as well. Can't remember who the alternate id was for this one I'm thinking about. But, I suspect that wasn't this person's only foray into impersonation it's just the only one confirmed to me.

10:12 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Carmela was definitely someone we know. I've already mentioned my suspicions there but when confronted, my suspects deny it.

Remember Opie from not terribly long ago? He got all up under Crazy Eddie's skin and some others too. I suspect one certain well known Hottie as being Opie but have no confirmation.

I suspect that Bortak is someone we know but I haven't thought about it enough to figure who that may be.

Ditto Salsa and Cobra.

10:15 AM
Blogger Norm said...

In each case, my suspects are all males. It'd be even funnier to me, but I can't imagine say Cincy or All In doing it.

10:18 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Then here on 1.0 we have that "Sara" interloper. I've got my eye on her so to speak.

10:19 AM

Beyond that...dunno. Just random suspicions.

BTW - How's Mr.Cincy's consulting been going? I hope he's been able to get some momentum going.

Blogger bigdaddy334 said...

I can say I have only posted as one person. I have thought about adding someone new, but never did. Well take that back on this page I have typed under my wife's name. But that was a mistake.

12:16 PM
Blogger Sara said...

Norm - you are referring to the time that it was thought that Sensi posted as Salsa Shark? Didn't something crazy like that happen once? Someone research that.

1:08 PM
Blogger bigdaddy334 said...

Sara!!! Welcome back!!

1:18 PM
Blogger michael said...

Sara sounds hot, so I looked around a little bit.

Looks like Norm was working on a Sensi=Salsa Shark theory a couple of years ago, but then Cousin Eddie told him that SS also posted on Cecil Hurt's message board. I think Norm is just a big multi-poster accusing conspiracy theorist who has yet to produce any actualy evidence of such activities.

Blogger bigdaddy334 said...

Norm is a multi-poster but is he the Multipurpose paper on AA

1:38 PM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

Bubbs,
Things are going well. Lots of good contacts, just the money that is slow coming in! Early in Aug he spoke to the deans, asst deans and dept heads of all 14 SEC schools of engineering, which looks promising. Yesterday he met with someone in the athletic office which also looks like it has real potential. He is working with the AU Provost about doing his yearly retreat with all the deans, another promising avenue. Just all these things take time to develop. Everyone tells him is is right on track with starting a new business, but the money thing is a little scary. Right now he is creating a white paper (whatever that is!) for one of the professors in the engineering school. I think things will start producing income soon, but for now we are learning patience, perseverance, faith and giving our anxiety to the Lord! Long answer, but thanks for asking!

2:02 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

@Cincy

You guys are much braver than me. I'm glad to hear that things are getting in the pipe line. It sounds like he is getting the opportunities and capitalizing on them. That's awesome.

2:20 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Cincy - GMB started her own consulting gig about 3 years ago, it took a good 2 years to start seeing some regular $. But I think hers is more of a niche than what I recall discussing with Mr. Cincy that he's doing.

2:52 PM
Blogger Norm said...

MJT - Sensi definitely confirmed to me he'd used an alter-ego but I can't recall what it was. I did suspect that he was Salsa and you're right I did call that out. Crazy Eddie says "No", ok but I still think Salsa was someone we knew.

I have the other confirmation referenced earlier. I'll bet Baldy's next paycheck that Carmela was one of the 2 people I alluded to earlier. I'll bet your next paycheck that Opie was who I suspected. My suspect can deny it to me 'til the cows come home but it's completely unconvincing.

I get a chuckle out of the thought of it.

I'm starting to suspect Norm is really SFC.
