Getting Our Bearings

Hey everyone. So as you have surmised, I was asked (politely) to make Wednesday my last day of work at the Advertiser. Nobody should be upset with the Advertiser; they are keeping to their word and sending me on my way with what they agreed to give me. No hard feelings.

I am hopeful that Brian Woodham, who recently left a part-time gig with ITAT to take a full-time job as a copy editor at the Advertiser, will be given an opportunity to take my old job. Brian would be a great addition. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.

As I explained on Facebook, we will have a board at AuburnSports.com with a stricter standard when it comes to cussing and any off-putting shenanigans. Personally, I'm good with the Bunker and have read it for a long time. They get a little upset when things don't go well, which is understandable, but I feel like that board's reputation for savage commentary far exceeds reality.

With that said, we will have a HABOTN-esque board over there for people whose tolerance for cussing is at zero. Just want to make that clear.

I'll be starting at AuburnSports.com on Monday.

Take care, errybody. Thanks as always for your support!

Art,

MJT has a valid point. When you tried to succeed you failed. When you tried to fail you succeeded. I think you should probably stick to aiming very low in everything you do hereafter.

THT,

That was a close one. Almost had to ban Art all together. You should probably just give up on that wordpress stuff and work on molding the young man.

If MA were consciously trying to kill HABOTN, I can't imagine how they'd do a better job. I'm still getting my news from Homer's new site & post on GTR occasionally. I'll keep going to 2.0 as long as it's showing some semblance of life and participation.

8:32 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Well isn't that special? after a single visit the "new" auburnauthority.com is now blocked by The Man. More and more FAIL by MA.

8:36 AM
Blogger War Eagle Girl said...

Mornin' errybody. I fear that Habotn is no more. They should have just turned it over to us and it would have been better than what they are doing. I like GTR fine but if we don't get a Last Post button, I'm gonna go crazy!! I'm trying to be patient with it but it doesn't feel like family yet. Tried to read the Bunker ~ oh lord.

8:57 AM
Blogger Norm said...

I'm not even trying to read The Bunker. GTR is different than what we're used to but I think I can handle it. Hit a thread of interest to me, read and post. Come back to it later and Page Down to the bottom and take it from there. That's my method at least.

9:04 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

This is insane. Trying to follow 4 places at once. I'm ready for them to just nuke the old site so I don't have to go there. We need a vote on where to congregate and leave it at that. GTR is nice, but I don't think it will ever be what we had.

9:29 AM
Blogger Norm said...

My vote is for here then. If I can't access the other thanks to blockage by the work pc, (sure, I know how to circumvent that but that's cumbersome), reading and posting via the iPhone isn't optimal IMO. Doable sure but not optimal. I shouldn't have to work that hard to get to them. So far I consider MA to have completely, totally and with epic lack of concern to be a failure.

GTR is different, I get that. But I think we can adapt.

9:58 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Easiest way to get around the corporate website filtering...use the web address for HABOTN (or whatever else) that you see displayed on your smartphone - input that into the web address field on your work PC. The mobile sites are often times not included in the various filter programs. That's not consistently reliable but it could get you over the hump.

Now I'm wondering what parenthetical phrase THT just closed. To think all this time we were just a subtext(?).

MJT, the reason I'm looking is because of the work blockage for folks. And stability. My preliminary findings aren't good though. We could set up something exactly like we got, but you have to pay for hosting, or someone who has some space on an existing server would have to host etc. Which - I knew that was generally the case. Wouldn't call them my other teams, but do have a soft spot for them on account of my best friends being big fans of those schools. And as a Tennessean, would like to see UT do well, if for no other reason than to help all these Bammers that have begun to infest my state over the last few years.

2:13 PM

As a former Tennessean, I say let the Vol program burn to the ground never to rise again. That doesn't bother me one bit. Apparently E-Bro doesn't remember the 90's very well. I do and I'm fine with them being subpar. I say let Vandy rise.

I remember quite well as a kid almost hating UT as much as I did Bama.

You haven't lived up here since 1996. More importantly, you haven't lived up here since 2008, when Bama got good again and heretofore unseen Bama fans started coming out of the woodwork and they haven't stopped. I swear, there's more of them now than UT fans.

That's what it seems like anyway. Until UT gets good again, looks like it'll stay that way.

I already told you about Chili's, Norm. Eat there for every meal.

Blogger bubbs said...

I'm still voting for the invite yourself to a strangers home for dinner option.

It's got to provide a better story for the rest of us. Well. I dunno. Chili's can be an adventure sometimes.

Blogger michael said...

Invite a stranger to Chili's.

There ya go.

9:39 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Chili's can be an adventure? No doubt.

Years back I was having lunch at Chili's across from what used to be Montgomery Mall. I was sitting next to the window looking out at the parking lot. A fellow parked in the spot outside the window maybe 10 feet away from me directly to my left. He got out of the car, got back in the car, got out of the car...he was acting strange. He got out of the car again and sat on the hood looking visibly upset. He gets off the hood, reaches into the car and comes back to the hood. Next thing I notice, he puts a gun to his head and ends his suffering.

So you and Chili's have some history. A very dark and depressing one.

I'm with MJT. Save a stranger's life by inviting them off the street and into Chili's for a meal.

jeez this thread has taken an unforseeable turn. this does however explain some things. anybody remember the movie theatre at the Montgy Mall kinda where the Parisians parking lot is or was?

10:24 AM
Blogger Norm said...

The rocking chair theater. Sure do. I also remember that truck/trailer thing on stilts that was at the edge of the parking lot of what was then Penney's. That thing had been there forever and I never gave it much thought. That is until one day a buddy of mine while driving his dad's brand new Alfa Romeo with me in the passenger seat decides it'd be a great idea to head straight towards and underneath it at about 50mph. Scared the crap out of me. Only later did he tell me that he'd tested it out solo the day before.

10:33 AM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

don't remember the truck trailer thing on stilts. maybe if I saw a picture of it. and the drive in off the bypass. the good ol days.

10:48 AM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

I don't remember it being called the rocking chair theater.

10:51 AM
Blogger Norm said...

It wasn't called that, but it had seats which rocked back. Or was that the Martin Twin? I think it was the mall one, pretty sure of that.

Yep. We have a new benevolent dictator. James is the name. E-Bro will like him since he's from up North.

ok, bigdaddy, you made me look. Well, the worst thing they could have done would have been to hire a ua-t grad. Hiring a tOSU grad is probably the second worst thing they could have done. I only hate ua-t, but I do have significant dislike of tOSU.

11:54 AM
Blogger Norm said...

I won't cotton to him trying to bring any tOSU love down this way and pollute our space with it.

Bubbs...there's two kind of people I can't stand in this world:

Those who are intolerant of other people's culture...and Ohians.

Whenever I'm down at the beach and see all the Ohio license plates around, I throw up in my mouth a little.

12:21 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I've already ordered OSU gear in order to endear myself to him.

Step 2
Get Norm and Art kicked off the boards.

Step 3
Make a lot of money.

12:22 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Looks like a solid plan.

Hey! Wait a minute!

12:52 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm all for Step 3.

Step 2...meh ;)

I vehemently protest Step 1.

So. Hobos like being called hobos. And lots of other interesting hobo information: http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/things-i-learned-at-the-national-hobo-convention

I'm thinking about giving it a try.

2:42 PM
Blogger Norm said...

I'll check the link if you can tell me it clarifies the difference between hobos, bums and homeless.

4:28 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

In all seriousness - it's number 3 on the list of things the guy learned.

4:37 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Montgomery Mall theater was the rocking chair theater. It was one screen until about 1980 when they divided into 2, and it was a strange configuration. I think the last movie I went to at the theater was with a woman who is now in prison.

4:41 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Man you guys are bringing heavy stuff to 1.0 today. We need to hurry up and get a new page. This one is getting all depressing.

4:44 PM
Blogger Norm said...

I think I went on a date with that same woman but not to a movie. Can't remember what exactly. I seem to recall another classmate took her to some event or another and they went to that nice steak place behind Montgomery Mall and she ordered steak and lobster, he wasn't pleased.

I think the last time I saw a movie there I went with JC, ML and another college buddy. We each snuck beer in because we were cool like that.

4:48 PM
Blogger Norm said...

What was the name of that aforementioned steak place? Behind the mall, across the street from Chuck E Cheese.

4:50 PM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

by Bishop Parker? there was some restaurant next to ChuckEcheez, something like the Pub.

a friends older sister carried us to see Caddyshack when it was a twin.

4:57 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Not "The Pub", that was actually inside the Mall. If you exited The Pub onto the sidewalk, you'd look across the parking lot towards Chuck E Cheese and this place. So, not exactly near Bishop Parker.

5:00 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

No clue. You want us to just start throwing out random steak house names?

Was it a chain or stand alone?

5:04 PM
Blogger Norm said...

To my knowledge, it was not a chain. I think it was "Steak & Ale".

5:06 PM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

thats it, I knew it was somethin english sounding.

5:07 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Dude. Steak & Ale is totally a chain.

5:09 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Was. Was a chain. They're pushin' daisies now.

5:09 PM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

so is that whole side of town.

5:12 PM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

I think thats where Ratner took Hamilton's little sister on a date.

Blogger bubbs said...

Yeah, THT. You missed the entire Great Steak House Hunt of 2012.

What you didn't miss was another epic failure of apocalyptic proportions by Art. He barely stayed out of the way, but he managed.

7:02 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'm talking about Art and the page flip, not his blog. His blog is a whole other topic of conversation and travesty.

7:24 PM
Blogger ArtVanDelay said...

I was a team player on that flip I helped set it up and then got out of the way. I can't defend the blog it's pretty bad but it's only as good as it's contributors.

7:44 PM

well if that's the case, then I just made it a whole lot better.
