but what he was really telling me is that, come Monday morning, I would likely forget to take my sodas out of the little freezer in prison. He was correct. Y'all excuse me for a minute while I run do that.
Will this solve all of our problems?
I'm guessing not.
509 days until kickoff 2017.
WARRRR EAGLE!!!
Anyone watch the A-Day. I didn't, but saw a blurb here and there about it. Sounded like defense was okay and the quarterbacks still suck. That's how I read them anyway.
And that TT QB transfer ... I'm with you THT. Not a problem solver. Not even sure why we would take him.
Bunch of ninnies. JFIII gonna get that Heisman this year.
I think you have to make a decision between a passing QB and an option QB (White or JFIII). How do you want the offense to look?
This also leads me to believe that Gus will have JJ starting.
Too bad Freeze an OM guy, and he has that feud with MJT. I think I'd like to steel him from OM like we did CTT. http://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/columnists/kellenberger/2016/04/09/kellenberger-what-another-kind-spring-game/82837836/
Also, I'm realizing we don't have a pit over here. I think I'll just wonder in the Wilderness until 2017.
The Wilderness... what we called that stretch of barren nothingness of I-16 between Macon and Savannah. Thank goodness I was young way back when MrsTHT and I had to make that drive very late at night after an AU game. I'd rather be in a pit than wander that stretch of highway for the next 17 months.
Penguins strategy: Get your starting goalie and his capable backup concussed so that they play poorly (or not at all) in playoffs, go play golf.
Hugh Freeze still has MJT nightmares. Guaran-dang-tee it.
So my wife says over the weekend, "Hey, let's watch the Walking Dead. My brother says it's good." She hates horror stuff*, so I was surprised she wanted to give it a go.
Anyway, I was a little hopeful she would like it, but I kind of knew how it would go. She didn't last more than two minutes into the program. At the sight of the first zombie she said, "I hate this! I hate this! Turn it off!!!"
So still no Walking Dead for MJT.
*her hate of horror is funny, because she puts up with all kinds of gore like on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Vikings, 24, and so on. But involve a slow walking zombie or whatever, and she freaks out.
Yeah. I watched the first few seasons of Walking Dead. It was pretty decent, but then I lost track ... meh. I will say that it could get pretty gruesome. I knew the end of your story before you told it.
Is Jessica Jones any good?
People frequently mistake me for one of those tv stars. I'm so old I apparently resemble one of those walking dead zombie things. I'm so old that I have never even heard of any of those other shows Michael mentioned.
Jessica Jones had a couple of really good episodes. It lost some steam at various times. The villain was my favorite part. Intriguing bad guy.
There were a lot of aggressive PG-13 sex scenes that were annoying.
I didn't like it as much as Daredevil, but I'll give it a mild thumbs up. Wife liked it, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to watch season 2. Said it was a little dark for her liking.
I don't believe you haven't heard of 24, THT. I figured you for a big Jack Bauer fan.
I've hung with Daredevil, though, at times I've been a little underwhelmed. It should be noted I'm not a big super hero genre fan.
I think I'll skip Jessica Jones.
Yeah, THT. You had to have at least heard of 24. I've never seen it, but even I know the gist of what it's about. Plus, it first aired, like, 10 years ago. You weren't even out of your 80s at that point. I bet the nurses even talked about it at your Bingo night.
that does ring a bell. 2.0 was a 24 fan back in the day. I probably watched two episodes. I remember it because it had the son of Hawkeye Pierce from the movie with the chaplain played by Odo.
I though y'all were talking about current tv shows. If we're going to watch old stuff, I'll stick with Laramie, the Rifleman, Andy Griffith, Combat, Rat Patrol, and High Chaparral.
I still think the Monk episode with Snoop Dog was one of the best tv show episodes ever. I strongly recommend it if you've not seen it.
How about this little nugget from one my favorite writers, Jerry Hinnen on the 2010 A day.
http://www.thewareaglereader.com/2010/04/a-day-impressions/
...if Caudle’s going to play like that, how much do we care? Again, it was just the spring game, but Caudle did look every bit the guy who knows the offense inside and out and frankly runs the zone read even more smoothly than Newton does. Do we have any evidence yet that Caudle can’t at least match Todd’s performance from a year ago, if not improve on it? The jury is further out on Trotter, given that he doesn’t have either Caudle’s time in the system or limited game experience, but he looked at least as good Saturday as Caudle did at A-Day 2009. Caudle probably would have done in a pinch last year, and Trotter appears like he’d do in a pinch this year. Even Moseley looked plenty comfortable.
We get it, Jimmy. Not that long ago we have a bevy of great QBs like Caudle, Trotter and Moseley. But the fact is we don't anymore. Are you trying to make us more depressed over here in the Wilderness?
By the way, someone told me they saw Hinnen reading palms in Atlantic city over Christmas break.
I not trying to make you more depressed, in fact I am here to make your day.
Guide to the world's most amazing toilets
http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/la-trb-toilets-spotters-guide-20160411-story.html
come see me at the Buy More today. I'll be here til midnight doling out great deals and trying not to think about the upcoming 2016 season.
508 days til kickoff 2017
WARRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Jimmy, there are several of those toilets where, it seems to me, they are in a place that doesn't require one. But it was educational none the less. Thanks for the link.
Hey THT, do you guys have on any soap-on-a-rope type products? I'm in the market.
bubbs wants to be a dope with a soap on a rope LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!
You wont be laughing when that soap reaches max velocity and smashes you IN THE FACE!!
No argument here. I mean, that much is obvious. I don't even know why you felt you needed to make that point.
This is some solid humor right here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hVWEefD5ag
Video got a solid MC out of me.
She's a cat person. She deserved that prank and much worse.
bubbs, none of our soap is on a rope; we only stock those liquid soap dispensers that attach to a wall. You could probably tie a rope to one.
You can tie a rope to anything, pretty much.
I can say pants
Prove it.
Jimmy typed that at 2AM, MJT. He was probably drunk and at a strip club. I don't think we need to hold him to every ludicrous statement he was making.
Heck, he's probably not even wearing pants. No need to make him prove he can ask for them.
Puedo decir pantalones
just like the girl in the Zombie video
:)
We've already established that she's a cat person and needs to be zombied. Are you admitting to being a cat person, Jimmy? Is that really how you want this to go? You wanna be a drunk guy with no pants, holding a cat and saying "pantalones?"
didn't know I could lose so much respect for someone so quickly ;-)
now please excuse me while I go do yard work. I usually do it once/year and today apparently is the day.
for someone who doesn't take naps, I sure am craving one right now.
507 days til kickoff!
WARRRRR EAGLE!!!
Hey.
Hey! It's the boy with no girl!
Well how much fried chicken can you eat!? It's E-Bro! Howdy western North Carolinian!
so after I lug 800 pounds of pea gravel (not all at one time) and distribute it appropriately, MrsTHT comes home and tells me she had someone coming tomorrow to do that.
Hey E-Bro!
At least I was not in public drunk with no pants, holding a cat and saying pantalones.
Do we need to drag the San Gabriel Reservoir to find your pants, Jimmy?
the very pants i was about to return
I don't understand.. you were wearing the pants you were returning?
I thought he was responding to THT. Which was very confusing because it sounded like he was trying to return pants that were at the bottom of the reservoir.
Don't get me wrong. I'd love to watch him try to return pants that are at the bottom of a reservoir. Plus, he thinks he's trying to return the pants he's wearing. Which he's not. He's not wearing pants. They're under water.
So, yeah, this is entertaining, but I'm working on a flow chart for the pants to help me keep track of things.
How do you feel about this THT? https://www.seccountry.com/sec-news/auburns-speculative-move-to-the-east-division-has-logistical-merit
Personally, I wouldn't at all mind moving to the East.
bubbs, I'll need you to mimeograph that flow chart for me. Yes, it's true that I'm having trouble keeping up with Jimmy's pants, but that's not the reason. I just miss that wonderful scent of those purple mimeographs. It's no wonder drugs are rampant in our schools. Something had to fill that void when mimeographs and their delightful aroma became extinct.
as to SEC re-alignment, I'm more in favor of this:
SEC
Auburn
ua-t
TN
GA
KY
Vandy
FL
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss St.
Non-SEC
all those pretenders
I harbor no love for those on the losing end of that, THT. But I don't think we get to go in that direction. More expansion is the horizon. It's only a matter of how far off.
This makes me nervous: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/15199343/auburn-tigers-coach-gus-malzahn-gets-back-coaching-roots
Isn't that the death knell for a coach? Whenever they start talking about getting back to basics or what they know etc.
2017 here we come!!!!
only 506 days til kickoff!
WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Can we trade aTm for Vandy in THT's proposed SEC? I wouldn't mind going out to Texas for some good brisket and football once in a while.
I think we should bring Suwanee back into the fold. I'm sure they could learn how to cook brisket.
I think we should kick bama out of the SEC.
I'm all for kicking them; the destination is irrelevant.
Kind of harsh when your name doesn't even make it into the title of the article about you leaving:
www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2016/04/backup_offensive_lineman_says.html
I would think it somewhat validates his decision.
Was about to post the same news, MJT.
12 scholly lineman. What the heck?! We have about half that in scholly QBs!!!
506 days!!!
Just read the Malzahn article you posted, bubbs. Just more evidence that we are gonna win that natty this year.
Reading a little deeper, it seems likely to me that the decision by Gus to bring in "yes" men was a conscious decision to avoid the team taking on multiple personalities. That's interesting. Gonna get pure unadulterated Gus this year it sounds like.
Eau de Gus, if you will. Pure essence of Gus.
We'll see how that works out. But the obvious is ... well ... verified. He was, indeed, hiring "yes" men on purpose. Intentional.
I still don't like it. Smells of desperation. Gus is admitting that he really doesn't know what he's doing as a head coach. Now, he may luck into the solution, but the odds are not in his favor.
This is a classic case of a research screwing up the concept of "correlation does imply causation"
http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/14/health/teens-sleep-school-start-times/index.html
"The study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that teens who get less than seven hours of sleep on school nights were more likely to engage in risky behaviors -- such as texting and driving, drinking and driving, riding with a driver who was drinking, and not wearing a seat belt in a car or a helmet while on a bicycle -- than teens who sleep nine hours a night.
"It was rather surprising to find such an impact of short sleep duration on these injury-related behaviors and suggests that sleep deprivation may play an important role in poor judgment and decision-making among adolescents," said Janet Croft"
I think lack of sleep will make you drowsy, but with regard to risky behavior, I think it is more likely that not getting enough sleep is just one bad decision made by a bad decision maker. I don't think lack of sleep is the reason someone texts while driving or whatever. All they have is correlation. Their conclusions are pretty dang unscientific.
I think the risky behaviour may effect the study, in that better parenting requires more sleep for their children, would then trickle down to better decision making by teens.
Or it could have something to do with my pants.
I don't think you guys understand the implications of this ground breaking study. All I have to do is make sure my kids get 9 hours of sleep, and I'll be a great parent! Done!
I'm gonna make a new video game called "Where in the World Are Jimmy's Pants."
A major variable will be the amount of sleep Jimmy has had.
Looks like Marlon Davidson might be everything Cowart was supposed to be:
http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2016/04/marlon_davidson_auburn_defensi.html
I almost feel bad for Cowart. He didn't show out in his Freshman season. Granted, he was all but a non-factor, but still. I'm sure he should be considered a bust just yet. We'll see. I hope he can at least be a solid contributor.
Davidson does sound like another Adams/Lawson. That would be nice. If our DLine turns out to be above average it could make our LBs look almost average. Wouldn't that be something!
Jimmy, are the Kings going to use their 2014 strategy against the Sharks? If so, they got off to a good start last night.
Notwithstanding MJT's attempts to get me excited about our defense in 2016...
505 days til kickoff!
WARRRRR EAGLE!!!
The game was intense for sure, I will take the end result of 2014 anyway you can get it.
I definitely wouldn't classify Cowart as a bust. I defended him a few times on that other website last fall. But what you hope for when you get the number 1 player in the nation is a Clowney or Myles Garrett impact player from the get-go.
Just noting that now we clearly have a game changing freshman d end who will probably be the number 1 draft pick after his junior year, so that is nice.
Having a player that's the number 1 draft pick is nice, but I'd like it to look very akin to the last time we had one. I want Davidson to be coming off a natty team!
Jimmy's Pants sighting: They were hanging out of the Ficus Plant's container. The one next to the water fountain, Jimmy.

Why ___ should be the starter
JJ: http://sec.news/1Voa1p0
SW: http://sec.news/1VpV4Te
JF3: http://sec.news/1Q6N8hL
So who do you guys think will be our starting QB? Usually, we're flipping a coin between two clear options. This year ... I wouldn't be floored if it was the Freshman coming in the fall.
Hey look, Gus! Another QB to give a scholly to! http://saturdaytradition.com/minnesota-football/streveler-transferring/
It can't be JJ. Right?
Well, Dude, we just don't know:
http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2016/04/former_auburn_wr_ricardo_louis_jeremy_johnson_win_starting_qb_job.html#incart_river_index
OK, OK, let's, you know, consider the source. He is buds with JJ, so of course this is what he says. Right?
We're buds, MJT, and I wouldn't tell anyone I think you'll be the starter. Sorry, but that's how I feel. I don't agree with Gus, but I don't think he's going to be giving you the nod.
Well, Ricardo is a good friend, and you are not. You'd recommend benching me out of jealousy even if I was clearly the best one.
Well, maybe JJ is clearly the best QB.
Plus, you're not. Deal with it, MJT. You can keep throwing over them mountains all you want, but coach ain't gonna put you in.
You are so clueless when it comes to quarterbacks. Chris Wienke won the Heisman at age 38!
He also had 2 wins in his NFL career. That's about what I give AU if you start.
Auburn will win at least 3 NFL games once I'm quarterback.
in answer to bubbs's question, my money is on Tyrik or Zeke, unless Gus chooses to go strictly wildcat, in which case it will be Dontae.
If none of them return to AU, then my money will be on David Webb.
I didn't read anything about the A-Day game. Did either Devin Adams or MJT see the field?
..and if it's not David Webb, it will be his near clone, former TTU QB Davis Webb.

WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Talkin' about all the development scrimmages we have this fall in preparation for the 2017 season, THT.
Haven't been over here in a while..........why the boycott of the 2016 season?
What 2016 season?
Well, it depends on who you ask, Kathy. MJT says it's another Natty. THT and I believe it's ... not going to be good. We've already moved on.
Jimmy hasn't really given a strong opinion.
E-Bro!
Hey, did Eddie do Boston again, or was that a one and done?
What we've got here are a bunch of unbelievin' bammers, Kathy. I'm trying to whip them into shape.
OK, well I'm on the MJT train! No pit for me.
Careful with those HABOTN train rides, Kathy. They don't always end how you want them to!
Eddie doesn't plan on Boston being a one and done, especially since he cramped up (the only race, of all races, that I remember him cramping up on) during it.
I don't think he has a set date on his next one or anything, but he's got some unfinished business there for sure.
Right now, however, he's focused on doing an Ironman. He's got his first half coming up next month, then he'll hopefully knock out a full next year.
Awesome. The idea of an IM has been rattling around in my head recently. Haven't decided if I want to go down that road or not.
Almost positive I'll have some ultras coming up in the not too distant future.
As for the prism through which I view Auburn football, I remain steadfastly anchored to the front porch.
I'm neither a sunshine pumper nor a pitmaster. I'm just going to let the chips fall where they may and enjoy the ride while sipping an adult beverage.
Good luck to you, bubbs. I tried to follow the lead of Eddie and the rest of the fam on catching the running bug, but it just didn't take.
I'm proud as heck of them and support them in all their running/fitness endeavors, but I'll just keep hiking, biking, and playing tennis for my cardiovascular recreation.
Why would anyone ever want to run 26 miles or more at one time?
To spread news of an Athenian victory?
For E-Bro
The Noog
Well of course, Ebro. That goes without saying.
Re: 3:36pm post... over the Syrian refugees?
My idea of an Ironman is watching 3 different TVs in one day, the kitchen, the basement, and the bedroom. The basement one actually involves a flight of stairs, so there's a good bit of cardio work there... unless I finish with the basement and just fall asleep down there in the lazy boy. Once the Quest for the Cup is over, I'll take a break from that strenuous workout until college football hits the TV.
Kathy,
I'll still be in JHS on Sept 3. MrsTHT will make sure of that.
There's not that many good reasons to do it MJT. Let's see:
1. To get paid (pros)
B. For health (This is pretty marginal. Marathon+ level training can be counterproductive to certain aspects of your health).
III. The sense of accomplishment (These people do a race or two, get the shirt then back off).
C. Because it's their version of crack-cocaine.
I don't even remember why I started endurance sports, but I definitely fall under C, now. Pretty positive Eddie does, too. He may have started as B, but that ain't where he is now. There's a point where it messes with you during the rest of your life, if you get out of your training schedule.
I think it's cheaper than crack-cocaine, though. So I'll keep running.
Thanks, THT. Can I have $2,500?
bubbs...that is a pretty accurate take on Eddie.
Yeah, my wife is told me there is such a thing as a "runner's high" that you people get or something. Seems like a terribly time-consuming way to get high, though.
Oh man, the Kings needed that
A runner's high?
Most people don't know that about the the Kings that went to visit Jesus. They weren't there at the manger/birth. Jesus was most likely a toddler by the time they got there. They ran the whole way, and were high as kites. Why else would you give perfume to a toddler? He'd have been much happier with the cardboard box it came in.
Wow. That actually does make a lot of sense.

Here you go, MJT: http://www.npr.org/sections/13.7/2016/04/20/474863739/how-runners-get-high
I call horse feathers on that first sentence. I've put in a lot of miles, and never felt anything that I would describe as euphoria. To me, it's a lot more like they describe with the mice. There's a sense of being relaxed or at ease at the end of a long run.
It sounds like you've never actually had a Runner's High then, bubbs. That must really stink to put in all that work and not even get high.
Easy there, Master of Thighs. No one said I didn't get high. I carry airplane glue with me on all my runs.
Stopping to repair airplanes mid-run gets you high?
I wonder how much research has been done with regard to the Airplane Repairman High.
It's bleeding edge stuff, MJT. Apart from my empirical evidence, I've done some preliminary computer modeling, and it compares the high to something akin to a heavy etc dose.
The airplane industry isn't what it used to be, though, so I'm not expecting any research grants anytime soon.
One of the big reasons there are so many flight delays is that the mechanics just want to get high, so they use any excuse to repair a plane. Remember that the next time you are stuck waiting for your flight. Freggin junky repairman. They're almost as bad as marathon runners.
This is also why I refuse to fly in an airplane that has been repaired. You know for 100% certain that the people repairing it were high. Hard to trust their workmanship. If anything on the airplane breaks, just toss the whole airplane out.
Disposable airplanes. A billion dollar idea if I've ever heard one.
This Magic Leap stuff looks pretty neat. But I know if I used it my hologram panel(?) would look like the drummer's kit from Rush before the day was done.

I am not sure about the order tho
I think I've seen 2 of those, Jimmy. Neither of which have I seen in the past 10 years.
My kids have watched Mighty Ducks, but I didn't watch it with them ...
What am I doing with my life?!
This place has you covered for non-stop Prince right now:
http://www.thecurrent.org/listen
Prince was a great musician. No question.
But he never struck my fancy. Not to say I don't see the loss as a great one; I'm just not experiencing it as personally as a lot folks seem to be.
I've decided JFIII is gonna start.
Gus has always talked about it being a run first offense. Under Gus our OLine has traditionally done much better at the run rather than pass protection. We have a backfield that's pretty talented and can handle the load. They've talked up using the H-backs more ...
They'll try to get JFIII to about the 60% completion mark and give him the nod as the starter.
Final answer.
We're talking about the 2017 season, right?
And I'm with you on Prince, bubbs. To a point anyway. I think it has more to do with the fact that I've just never delved too deep into his music.
By the time I was old enough to be conscious of his music, his biggest records had already come out and he was already an icon and seemingly too big to fully comprehend, so past what was playing on MTV and the radio, I wasn't ever that familiar with his work.
I've meant for a long time to get a better sense of his music, but never got around to it. I will say that I thought his Super Bowl halftime performance some years back was amazing. That was the first time where I was like, "Yeah, this guy is ridiculously talented. I should listen to his music more."
And then proceeded not to. No time like the present, I suppose.
I share the meh view on Prince with you two dudes... it's probably because we're all basically the same age. I get more of a "you had to be there vibe" with Prince than with most other greats.
Most of his "great" songs sound pretty bland to me. Great performer, great multi-talented musician, but I never really got jazzed by most of his big hits (always did really like "Raspberry Beret" though).
Welp. Glad there's a little corner of the interwebs where we could share our general shrug. Because heaven knows the rest of the webs would not be so kind to my sentiment right about now.
I'm talking 2016 season, E-Bro. Just because I've set the bar as low as it will go doesn't mean I'm not following the team. What do you think I am, a bammer?!?
I think it's Gus's only chance to make it out of 2016 with his job, to be quite frank. It's not going to send us to any 'ships, but it might get him to 2017 where Woody will win a natty and the Heisman.
Right now I see 4 solid wins and 4 solid losses. The 4 in the balance will determine Gus's job. He needs to do better than split those to hang around.
As I've stated elsewhere (cough), I feel like 2016 would need to be a giant $h!t show of a season for Gus to lose his job, or we at least need to understand the context of what's going with team beyond just what the record is if we do fire him.
I didn't come out of the 2015 season expecting a quick road to recovery. Felt like there's a fair bit of work to do on this team (to get to a championship level) that probably needs to be measured in at least a two year interval instead of one.
Certainly, it's damning to Gus that the situation is of his own making, but if we truly feel he's recognized his heretofore shortcomings, I'm more inclined to give him more than a year to correct the problem. Or rather, I don't want the measurable to just be wins and losses.
6-6 by itself won't be enough for me - and I realize you might be giving your take from the standpoint of the likelihood of Gus being fired rather than your own personal opinion on whether he should be or not - and I hope it's not what the higher ups in the administration go off of alone in making their decision.
Question: Is Gus's seat hotter or colder than Gene Chizik's seat was in April of 2012?
I think the seats hotter and the ice thinner than it was going into the 2012 season. There was a sense that 2011 was a minor set back. Had CGT won 6 or 7 games in 2012, he would have had at least another year to work with. My perception with Gus is that there are some people that already have their finger on the trigger. They need 2016 to exceed expectations in order for them to TRY to keep him around.
Eh. My prediction on a 6-6 firing is more about how I think things would go down rather than how I believe they "should" go down. But it is hard to argue that 8-5, 7-6, and 6-6 should earn you another year on the job. Obviously, it's an easier call to make once we actually see the season unfold. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's ...
BTW - his recent demeanor about last season, the isolationism with coaches, and him talking about "getting back" to the way he used to do things
... To continue reading, subscribe now for VIP Access.
As I was saying ... All that stuff usually spells desperation. Seldom does it proceed success.
Look. I hope Gus has the offense clicking, and I get laughed at for being glum about 2016. We make a nice run and things are looking up by season's end. But I'm just callin' it like I see it.
Here is the correct answer to my question:
I think Gus's seat is hotter than Chizik's was (i.e. there is more of a disgruntled rumble, thus making his seat uncomfortable), but Chizik's ice was thinner (i.e. he was actually in the more precarious position).
Gus has been given credit for 2010 and 2013. Chizik never got credit for anything. Once he failed, the fans and the PTB were ready to pull the plug. I think the good times might help Gus coast a bit more.
Also, winning more than three games all year will help too.
You make a valid point with CGC's precariousness. Had he done well in 2012, he would have been lauded as a great coach/manager (Scarbo writing more articles how he compares to saban etc). But because he lost in such spectacular fashion right after Gus left, it made him look the fool. Like he didn't have anything to do with the previous success.
MJT puts the wins over/under for Gus keeping his job at 4. Bold move, MJT.
As I recall, we were supposed to good (talking pre-season prognostications and such) in 2012, right? To follow that up with 3-9, and not just 3-9, but the "the team totally quit the last few games" kind of 3-9 left no way back.
I guess that was one thing that still left me feeling good about last season. At times, especially early on, it seemed to echo 2012, but the team never quit, actually got a little better as the season went along, and at no point did I feel like Gus had lost control of the program (barring maybe a few hours when Duke was kicked off the team).
While I'm not convinced yet that Gus will get it done here, the way last season could have gone horribly wrong yet somehow still didn't at least gave me some hope about a future with Gus. I'm just also of the opinion that one season is not enough time to fix it, but 2013...
I'll give you that. A lot of us commented on the difference in the players between 2012 and 2015. They never did give up last year. That's not nothing. It at least means Gus still has control of the program. It's probably another reason he decided to hire "yes" men, too. If he's going to lose his job it wont be because he wasn't really driving this thing.
However, the question remains on whether or not he can be a solid HC ... Seems odd that we're still asking that question 4 years into this thing (5 if you count ArkSt). I guess that's why I'm not all that optimistic. Anyone remember where a coach took that long to prove himself to be a good HC?
I am not a fan of Gus buying that sports car
ELIMINATE the Rangers!
My wife is having a serious talk with our neighbor in the kitchen right now. I think the neighbor's marriage is in trouble.
While I love that my wife can help her friend out, dinner has been sitting on the stove for a really long time now, and I'm really hungry. But I can't go in because of the talk. So here I am on HABOTN on a Saturday night at 9:00 pm with an empty belly. Yup.
Blues are doing their best to live up to their usual first round flop identity.
How 'bout that AU Equestrian Team?! I'm telling you, that National Championship was in the bag the whole time.

and I concur with Jimmy's last two comments.
Did you ever eat Saturday night, MJT? Was it an original Philly Steak Sammich?
Hasn't your wife's friend ever heard of comfort eating to solve personal problems?
bubbs, to answer your earlier question about head coaches taking a while to prove they're good...Tubs' record at Ole Miss wasn't great. Saban's record with Michigan State was fairly pedestrian. Grant, those are smaller schools and Tubs certainly was dealing with extenuating circumstances in Oxford.
I've noted a Gary Patterson comparison before. Granted, his line of sustained success with TCU is much longer than Gustav's first two years as a head coach, but Patterson had to endure a pretty miserable couple of years of transitioning before the fruit of the last two seasons was borne.
Admittedly, though, these comparisons are a stretch. Then again, it's tough to compare Gus to standard coaching models given that he was a high school football coach less than a decade before becoming the head coach at a top 10-15 program. His learning curve has been different than others. Next season or two should tell the tale definitively.
No bubbs, I'm still waiting upstairs.
Wow, MJT. I hope one of the kids have been able to bring you some water or something. This chick is really capitalizing on your wife's generosity.
Tell you what. I'll be making dinner at my house tonight. Why don't you come over, and we can talk about your wife's boundary issues in my kitchen?
Gus has been given a pretty long leash, E-Bro. And I'm fine with that. I need him to surprise me a little this season, though, if I'm going to hold out hope of him turning into a good HC. Aside from the car purchase, I like Gus and would like for us to be able to put his name on something at AU in another 15-20 years.
Why does bubbs want to fire Gus so bad?
He turned down my invite for an oven side chat.

Ooooh Lane Kiffen you are an endless supplier of comedy. I can't wait for the Tosh skit.
Jimmy, I have no idea what you're talking about. Not in specifics anyway.
Hey THT, who do you think "Becky with the good hair" is?
My sources are telling me Becky = Rachel Ray from the Food network.
But I'm interested in THT's thoughts, as well.
Unless you are talking about Daniel Boone's wife, or the girl next door when I lived in Burlington, or my cousin in Wyoming, I have absolutely no idea what y'all are talking about.
I am seriously looking forward to a very quiet evening.
I thought you were a card carrying member of the Beyhive, THT??? I guess not.
But I'm with bubbs. Might be Rachel Ray... though it would also be Paula Dean.
Paul Dean has good hair all things considered, but I don't think it's RR level. You're on the verge of being ridiculous, MJT.
Yeah, I know it's a longshot, especially with her racist past, but sometimes you gotta have an outlandish position to get clicks, you know?
Which is why I'm now certain it's Paula Dean!
Paula Dean and Lane Kiffin are on Tinder date?
Does Lane have a butter problem?
I don't even know who Brad is, but I fully support this.

"I hear Brad Nessler will also leave ESPN to join CBS, and will replace Verne Lundquist on @SEConCBS eventually" @ClayTravis on our show.
"eventually" meaning we got 10 more years of Verne!
Not if I have anything to say about it. I'm gonna set Verne up with Paula. A few of her meals should put his push his heart past the red line and put an end to his announcing career.
Look, secondly, you DON'T have anything to say about it. And finally, Verne is a happily married man who would never slide into a Food Network chick's DMs. And first of all, Verne's body can process butter directly into chortles, so Paula Dean's cooking wouldn't hurt him anyway.
You underestimate the DM-tress that Paula is. Verne's DM box has never seen the likes of someone like Paula. His past DM record has no bearing here.
Fourthly, I'm fine if Verne decides to chortle up all that butter. He'll be so busy chortling that no one will understand him, and CBS will have to replace him. They can't have someone like that on the air. It would be like if an announcer was constantly giving the viewer the wrong names. It defeats the whole purpose of having an announcer. They can abide by that.
Abide by this...
SULLIVANBEASLEY!!!
THT is a dang hero. bubbs almost ruined SULLIVANBEASLEY!!! by distracting everyone with his anti-Verne nonsense, but THT came and and saved the day.
I would say it's like he watches this place sometimes without commenting, but I don't see how that's the case today. No doubt, THT has strong opinions on the Rachel/Paula/Verne discussion.

Best breakfast in Auburn.
I'm a little confused by the guys "strike while the iron is hot" mentality with the property value. That location value is only going to up up up as it becomes more impossible to get real estate right next to the school.
I have never heard of tiger nuts until you posted that, bubbs. Should I have known about them?
The dude is also about to hit 60, so maybe he figured there was no point in waiting 5 more years. But ... so it goes.
I'm surprised you've never heard of tiger nuts, MJT. I haven't either, but I'm still surprised you haven't. It's a perfect opportunity to tell your wife you want to try eating some tiger nuts. Make sure to bring it up in the van in front of all the kids. Let us know how it goes.
I figured they were a delicacy in Eurasia.
They might be for all I know. I know we people to donate a lot of food which I redistribute to my exotic zoo animals (or burn for lighting), and the peasants are stuck eating common garden weeds a lot of the time. So I'm guessing those people would know their way around tiger nuts better than me.

You have no idea what I'm talking about, bubbs? Is it because the pre-paige flip post is missing a word? I'd edit it, but that's impossible, so I decided not to. Doh well.
THT, BBQ house's BBQ was just OK in my book. I mean, their sandwich was a solid example of south Alabama pre-mixed in mustard sauce + pickle style. I preferred Mike and Ed's sandwich over theirs, but again, we are talking South Alabama BBQ, so the there is a ceiling we are dealing with with all local Auburn BBQ. Of course, it beats the snot out of the soggy soaked in vinegar BBQ pulled pork they have here up in north Alabama.
I actually would like to have BBQ house sandwich though since it's been a few years since I had BBQ that style.
But anyway, their breakfast is second to none. Bacon egg and cheese biscuit was great on the run, but my preference was biscuits and gravy with eggs and some hashbrowns and various breakfast meats. I could knock out some food at that place, for realz.
Might be time for a road trip
