I obviously was talking about a road trip to the underground lake in Antarctica. Alaska's probably on the way, though, so I'll think about it.

I'm hungry now. I love breakfast.

During the 2nd intermission of NYI-TB, I took a combination of Ambien and Benadryl, the nicknames for my grandpuppies who crawled up in my lap. I slept through the 3rd period. Fortunately, their mama took them out and I woke up in time for Game 7 puck drop. I think the Predators are getting the short end of the whistle from the refs.

Outside temp is 81 here and 28 in Laramie. Since I can't be in Laramie, I'm glad I'm indoors. I probably wouldn't mind heat so much if it didn't bring so much nature with it. I really haven't found a good use for ticks, spiders, copperheads, mosquitoes, poison ivy, poison oak, or Virginia creeper.

This morning on the way to work, I decided my last request will be to wake up feeling rested on the day I die. You know, that same feeling I had on two consecutive mornings in 1995. It was AMAZING.

Preds game was blacked out last night on Disk Network NBCSN here in Huntsville. Didn't have it on Fox Sports South either. Any idea, THT or Jimmy, what channel I could have found it on in case the next series gets blacked out?

1:41 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

it was supposedly on FoxSports-TN. It was also on a couple of Canadian networks. I can't believe it was blacked out on NBCSN. That's nuts!

Friday night vs Sharks only shows NBCSN and TVA, so you may be good. Yes, that's a Canandian network, not a dam water control agency.

Bruce Boudreau's reward for coaching the Ducks to their 4th consecutive Pacific Division title?

A pink slip.

Or perhaps the pink slip was for some other notable recent accomplishment.

Are we sure the pink slip wasn't some sort of coupon? That would make more sense as a reward.

3:34 PM

Could be, Michael. The stories of Boudreau's coupon-clipping prowess are legendary.

I'll admit, I did not anticipate a 5 goal 3rd period from the Sharks. Perhaps a couple, but not 5.

All 8 teams that advanced to the 2nd round won the first game of their first round series. If that trend holds up, all 4 teams I'm pulling for in the second round will be eliminated soon.

I'm guessing that after they saw Laremy's recent lo$$ in the draft, they were just taking it to the local dumpster to dispose of it. I'll be interested to see how Gus handles things. We're not favored in the opener to begin with. If he starts suspending folks, it'll be ugly.

He's in a bit of a rock/hard place dilemma. He can't look like he's lost control of the program, but he also can't lose any extra games.

1:26 PM
Blogger michael said...

What you really have to do in this situation is looks at the players involved, judge their character, look at their history, and then assign punishment. I am pretty sure Carlton Davis has already learned his lesson from the embarrassment involved with this situation. Perhaps some of the others should be punished at varying degrees, ranging from extra sprints to perhaps being banned from playing the first play of the game against Clemson.

Chiz would have run a terrible counterfeiting operation. When you think about it, that was probably his biggest downfall. If he had done better in that arena, there wouldn't have been the need for the Trailer Park 4 to do what they did. Now I'm wondering if there's a black market for library card numbers out there. Hmm. An underground library card co-op. I may need to add this to my business ideas. Add this to my Murder of Crows and un-Forunate Cookies - I'm gonna be rich!!

Does he start trending up, or start the slide into bust/obscurity? He has lesser * players pushing for his job already. He's in legal trouble/the dog house. He went from being the shiny new star to the underdog that many would like to forget.

The thing that does make me consider getting a membership is the fact that some things I would like to listen to aren't at the library. I could use my credit to be very selective and then fill out my listening with library finds ... I may eventually go that route.

These days I listen to ItunesU podcast/class type thing in the morning (all free) and book in the afternoon during my work/home transits.

I've tried to argue that we should cancel our audible subscription, but my wife says we have to have it or something for homeschooling reasons or whatever. The last book lasted me a couple of months (it was a 24+ hr history book), and the current one will last me about as long I imagine.

We have a library card for Huntsville library...and I also see our church has a library on that website. I think I'll give that overdrive thing a go.

Man, this looking for a new gig deal is a PITA. I'll spend X hours a day in front of the pooter researching places, reviewing current openings and applying for current openings. I'm such a dead-solid match for a good many of the openings I've put in for that I tend to expect I'll be hearing from them within hours of my submission. Not so much. Oh well, guess it's like fishing. But I'm tired of fishing and ready to reel something in to the dock. Thank goodness for a healthy severance package.

On another note, I'm rather surprised at how little time I've had to watch sports lately. I'd love to watch some hockey playoffs but that hasn't happened. Dangit.

Good to know I'll always have those ghost cooling towers to guide me home on the drives between the Noog and Hville.

so you go 72 all the way to the noog, e-bro? does it drive good?

2:33 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I live in South Huntsville, so I generally head up and over the mountain around Jones Valley and go through Hampton Cove area before hopping on 72 around Gurley.

If I'm wanting a change of scenery, I might take back roads before hopping on around Woodville or I'll take 431 to 79 and hit it around Scottsboro, but usually take the Gurley route.

Easy, relaxing drive after that until you get on I-24.

3:17 PM
Blogger michael said...

Gotcha.

I only go through the Noog on the way to Atlanta to visit my sis from time to time, but usually I cut across through Mentone instead of going way up north.

On the way home this last trip, for giggles I went through the Noog and then went down 59 before crossing over to Scottsboro. That seemed waaaaaay slower than the 72 route.

3:39 PM
Blogger michael said...

And also we should have a Hotties Huntsville lunch some time. Bubbs said he'd come up for it.

My parents still live off 72 just before you get to Gurley. You guys should stop by their house some time and visit.

4:40 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I can do that.

When I visit Eddie in ATL, I take back roads towards Gadsden before hopping on I-20 somewhere around Anniston, but he does live in Villa Rica on the west side. If he was in the North Atlanta area, Mentone would probably be my route as well.

Working at the Buy More during a NHL game 7 should be against the law. I am thankful that both of them aren't tonight. I'm hoping tonight's game will go to 2 or more OT so I can see some.

Penguins went 0-2-1 against the Lightning in the regular season, being outscored 15-9 in three games. But those games were early in the season when Penguins stunk, right? NOPE! All 3 games played after Jan. 14 (i.e. when the Penguins were kicking everyone else's butts). Smart money is on TB.

It's easy to get jaded about college football, but in truth it's a mixed bag like anything else. Definitely not pure, but it's not completely bankrupt either. To be honest, I don't expect much from Sammons. But in the grand scheme of things, who cares?

How do you feel about Black Pistol Fire, E-Bro?

They kinda sound like a mash up between Black Keys and someone like Jet (the Australian one) to me. They've got a lot of blues influence like the Keys but more raucous/rock&roll like Jet.

Speaking of music. How are you guys feeling about A Moon Shaped Pool? From the small bit I've heard and the reviews I've read seems like an album I'll like.

12:12 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Don't know much about Black Pistol Fire, bubbs. Have to check them out. The little bit I've heard from them, though, prompts me to ask if you've listened to Houndmouth at all? Their album from last year was one I really dug. It's hard to label them as a like for like because their style of rock is definitely a melting pot of other influences, but just the first snippets of BPF I listened to immediately made me think of them.

re: A Moon Shaped Pool...I suspect I'll be buying it as Radiohead is one of the few bands I still have a blind loyalty to, but I liked the two singles that dropped last week before the release and I've liked the snippets I've heard here and there on XMU. Definitely threw me for a loop that they put a version of True Love Waits on the album after all these years of kicking it around on tour or as a B-side.

1:11 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'm middle of the road on Houndmouth. I've got their first album. That said it's been a while since I've really listened to them, and I'm not sure I've listened to their latest. May have to give them another look.

So, Jimmy. Did Vince bring a Teddy Bear to the game, or is he so rich that he has a real bear that he's crying into? This is important.

BPF and Radiohead are probably not to your liking, THT, but I suspect Houndmouth would find themselves outside your "noise" category.

8:47 AM
Blogger michael said...

THT is the Grinch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsMlsDgMXJM

I for one look forward to the new Radiohead album. Like Ebro, they are one of the few "blind-buy" bands I have left in my life.

I think the only others are Pearl Jam and the Strokes at this point, though the PJ commitment is more out of duty at this point. Jack White almost makes the list, but I haven't gotten around to buying his latest yet.

10:16 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I think we've had a version of this conversation before.

I had to find PJ later in life. It was really the Into the Wild album that reintroduced me to Vedder. From that perspective and working backwards I really like PJ, now. Strokes are cool and I think I have everything by White Stripes (what does Meg do now?), but not much of Jack's more recent work. Not sure why I don't.

Incidentally, shuffling through the artists on Jack's label (Third Man Records) has yielded me some nice finds. I found folks like Shovels & Rope and First Aid Kit by going through his site and listening to them.

10:39 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Like me some First Aid Kit pretty good. Give me kind of a Fleet Foxes vibe, but with sisters who are from Sweden. Have also enjoyed the Margot Price album that dropped a few months back (think she is also on White's label), even at times I feel as though she's just trying to forge a commercial path as the female version of Sturgill Simpson.

Base line on Is This It is one of my all-time favorites, but that's the only Strokes album I have. Dug Room On Fire, but never purchased it, and have been in and out of their more recent stuff.

Radiohead probably is the only remaining older band that I'm blindly loyal to. I'd generally throw My Morning Jacket in there as well, but I still haven't gotten around to purchasing last year's album, mostly out of pure laziness. M83 has probably cracked that list as well.

Yes, indeed! Based on historical data, Penguins went from having ~5% chance of winning the series if they had lost first 2 games AT HOME, to 52% chance with that goal. My money would still be on TBL. Penguins just don't seem to match up well with them. At least TBL is only averaging 2.5 gpg instead of the 5 gpg they did against Penguins in the regular season.

Hey THT, did Mrs THT put any scratch in the chicky salad?

I think she only uses scratch in cakes, brownies, biscuits, pizza dough, bread, and pie crust, so I'm guessing it's a starch. Chicky salad is really nothing more than blendered chicken and Duke's mayo. I asked her to leave any other ingredients out so that it would taste really good. She does bake the chicken and scratch the bones clean, so I guess that counts. She's way too cheap to buy boneless chicken breasts for my chicky salad.
