Going on a road trip, MJT? Where to? You should come to Alaska with me and THT.
I obviously was talking about a road trip to the underground lake in Antarctica. Alaska's probably on the way, though, so I'll think about it.
I'm hungry now. I love breakfast.
During the 2nd intermission of NYI-TB, I took a combination of Ambien and Benadryl, the nicknames for my grandpuppies who crawled up in my lap. I slept through the 3rd period. Fortunately, their mama took them out and I woke up in time for Game 7 puck drop. I think the Predators are getting the short end of the whistle from the refs.
Preds win! I hope they win the cup, as I was born at Baptist Hospital in Nashville and all.
The Predators defense last night was superb.
Someone please contact the NHL and tell them to reschedule Penguins game 2 vs Caps to Sunday. I'll be stuck at the Buy More all day/night on Saturday.
492 days until kickoff!
WARRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
I just called and they said they couldn't move the game, THT. Sorry.
I sent a strongly worded open letter via fax. I've not heard back yet, but I'm pretty optimistic. You're welcome, THT.
Thank you, gentlemen, for your efforts.
I don't like work being so busy this week. I was hoping to sort of coast through the week.
Idaho to drop down to FCS after 2017 season
It's about time. Actually, it will be 23 years past time.
4 consecutive years of leading a playoff series 3-2 and end up losing Game 7 on home ice. Poor ol' Anaheim Bills.
Satellite Camps are back, baby!
https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/board-rescinds-camps-and-clinics-rule-directs-council-review-football-recruiting-model?sf25272735=1
Outside temp is 81 here and 28 in Laramie. Since I can't be in Laramie, I'm glad I'm indoors. I probably wouldn't mind heat so much if it didn't bring so much nature with it. I really haven't found a good use for ticks, spiders, copperheads, mosquitoes, poison ivy, poison oak, or Virginia creeper.
This morning on the way to work, I decided my last request will be to wake up feeling rested on the day I die. You know, that same feeling I had on two consecutive mornings in 1995. It was AMAZING.
Preds game was blacked out last night on Disk Network NBCSN here in Huntsville. Didn't have it on Fox Sports South either. Any idea, THT or Jimmy, what channel I could have found it on in case the next series gets blacked out?
it was supposedly on FoxSports-TN. It was also on a couple of Canadian networks. I can't believe it was blacked out on NBCSN. That's nuts!
Friday night vs Sharks only shows NBCSN and TVA, so you may be good. Yes, that's a Canandian network, not a dam water control agency.
I think the regional sports networks are no longer in play after the first round. Just guessing.
I watched on Fox Sports West which had the Ducks local. I think the next round will be on NBCSN,

Re: "2016 AU Football Away Game Ticket Information" email
I'm hardly interested in home games this year. I sure don't intend to order away game tickets.
Still 492 days til kickoff in 2017.
WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!
This week in junk 40 times (from a Deon Mix tweet):
John Franklin-4.28
Carlton Davis-4.28
Jamel Dean-4.28
Rudy Ford-4.20
Javaris Davis-4.18
I'm thinking add at least .2 seconds to all those times.
I'm the mirror image of JFiii. My 40 time is 8.24... with a strong tailwind.
I could be watching the Penguins on a cell phone without my eyeglasses, and I could still see that their defense sucks. I was seriously spoiled watching the Predators play defense last night.
Penguins will be playing golf by Mother's Day. Thank goodness it's only
491 days til kickoff!
WARRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
So OM has a player admitting he got paid, and there's documented conversations about getting cash. We also have a bammer coarch getting the pink slip over "recruiting violations."
Maybe I'm just jaded, but I expect right about 0 NCAA somethings happening to both schools over this stuff.
Which begs the question. Are our pockets too shallow to keep up?
Herb Hand @CoachHand 1m1 minute ago
👀 'On-Campus' Camp schedule.
We want to teach the great game of football on The Plains‼️
Where else? 🤔
Have 🏈 will [image of satellite]
There was some article (saw the blurb/didn't read) about CTT being willing to team up with AU and do a camp in Ohio ... Not sure how I feel about that.
That Tunsil stuff if pretty crazy... but I doubt anything comes of it. He won't cooperate with the NCAA.
I bet Tunsil would buy a ticket from Birmingham UK to Las Vegas.
But what is his luggage made out of?
dunlop tennis balls LOL!!!
Furry, YELLOW bags! LOLZ!
Not a bad trio of cities for us to set up camps. Hope it pays off.
https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/auburn-looking-at-three-sites-to-hold-satellite-camps
I was hoping Laramie would make the list.
Good catch, THT. I'm warming up the fax machine now. Gus will have your suggestion directly.
Bruce Boudreau's reward for coaching the Ducks to their 4th consecutive Pacific Division title?
A pink slip.
Or perhaps the pink slip was for some other notable recent accomplishment.
Are we sure the pink slip wasn't some sort of coupon? That would make more sense as a reward.
Could be, Michael. The stories of Boudreau's coupon-clipping prowess are legendary.
I'll admit, I did not anticipate a 5 goal 3rd period from the Sharks. Perhaps a couple, but not 5.
All 8 teams that advanced to the 2nd round won the first game of their first round series. If that trend holds up, all 4 teams I'm pulling for in the second round will be eliminated soon.
Y'all come by the Buy More any time between now and tomorrow morning. I'll set you up with a great deal.
You have to consider two of the sharks goal were empty netters, but 3 is still too many.
I am hoping for a curse on the sharks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ7Q56jvGRg
Black cat runs across ice, spells bad luck for Sharks
Lightning strikes.
I'm glad I'm swamped at work and won't have to watch the Penguins in case they play as poorly tonight as they did Thursday night. I hate I won't get to watch the game. Yes, both statements are true.
back to the grind. stop by if you're in the neighborhood.
4BEASLEY!!! days until 2017 kickoff.
WARRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
You were flirting with disaster on that Beasley, THT. No telling who could have posted while you were waiting.
Hey apparently Ricardo said some honest things about Auburn developing receivers and then people got mad:
https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/receiver-ricardo-louis-says-he-was-not-developed-at-auburn
bammer!
He came back later and made nice. But yeah. It's been a little surprising to me that we can somehow grab talented receivers.
Let the unraveling BEGIN!
http://www.oanow.com/sports/college/auburn/football/breaking-four-auburn-university-football-players-arrested-saturday-in-auburn/article_d6d69cec-1085-11e6-a6ba-3bdbca2b76cb.html
After the "weed free in '15" disaster of last season, I see this as a positive development for the 2016 Auburn football team.
I'm guessing that after they saw Laremy's recent lo$$ in the draft, they were just taking it to the local dumpster to dispose of it. Any other explanation would require a label of Ultimate Moronic Stupidity... and we all know AU players aren't stupid. Kind of ironic that they would get arrested for getting rid of their weed.
I'll be interested to see how Gus handles things. We're not favored in the opener to begin with. If he starts suspending folks, it'll be ugly.
He's in a bit of a rock/hard place dilemma. He can't look like he's lost control of the program, but he also can't lose any extra games.
What you really have to do in this situation is looks at the players involved, judge their character, look at their history, and then assign punishment. I am pretty sure Carlton Davis has already learned his lesson from the embarrassment involved with this situation. Perhaps some of the others should be punished at varying degrees, ranging from extra sprints to perhaps being banned from playing the first play of the game against Clemson.
I'm in favor of Iron-Fist-MJT's discipline prescription.
Pens win tonight but lose another player to injury. I do not like the Ovechkis. I wouldn't mind seeing MJT's iron fist up side Ovechkin's head
Just bring me the head, and I'll do what you need me to do.
I don't even know who this guy is, but I think he's about got the size of it: http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2016/05/alcom_all-access_ah_scandal_wh.html#incart_river_index
MJT, I just faxed over some letter head to you. I'd like you to create some new graphics/logo, print off a couple hundred sheets on nice paper then mail them back to me. Thanks.
The logo will be a monkey sitting atop a horse who himself is on a surfboard riding a wave. The monkey is holding a banana.
Anything else?
I'd really like the monkey to have some sort of hat on.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ugh I hate clients who have last minute changes.
you'll have to wait 2 weeks for the sheets with the correctly hatted monkey. And it will cost you $35 plus fees.
That's fine. I really want the hatted monkey. I'm faxing you the cash right now.
don't forget to do a double sided fax.
true story: my son was making copies of one dollar bills (as well as some coupons) the other week, but he was only doing one side at a time. That won't work anywhere.
LOLZ! A one sided copy. Yeah, you have to get both sides. For sure. No doubt, you straightened him out.
Indeed. They were also black and white, and they were all crooked. Sometimes he only copied 3/4 of the one side of the bill he was copying. He is basically the Scot Loeffler of counterfeiting. I am so ashamed of him.
Chiz would have run a terrible counterfeiting operation. When you think about it, that was probably his biggest downfall. If he had done better in that arena, there wouldn't have been the need for the Trailer Park 4 to do what they did. The whole team would have fallen in line with a respectable, counterfeiting proprietor.
When he hired Scot ... The writing was on the wall. The crooked, 3/4 done, and one-sided writing was on the wall...
y'all got to puppet hour a little early today!
Me? I just stayed buried in the Buy More. Still buried.
Go Preds! Keep it rolling you hillbilly hockey nuts
Is it "buck naked" or "butt naked"?
I could look it up, but I'd rather ask you guys. I'm guessing it's "buck" and then it got repeated with the misheard "butt."
STOCK UP, THT!!! ANOTHER BLUE BELL RECALL!
http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2016/05/04/blue-bell-ice-cream-recalled-due-to-packaging-mistake/
I am not googl'n nothi'n with "butt" & "naked"
Did Blue Bell forget to list "listeria" as an ingredient again?
I think the FDA took issue with them listing it as "butt naked, listeria" in an effort to make it sound more natural.
I like my Blue Bell with an extra heaping helping of listeria.
Pro Tip: DO NOT mix Blue Bell with Listerine.
I dunno, Norm. Eating ice cream and taking care of dental hygiene at the same time ... this sounds like a boarder line genius idea.
I failed to mention this earlier, Jimmy, but you were the one talking about hillbilly nuts in a previous post. Googling butt & naked doesn't seem like such a stretch for you, if you ask me.
Eating ice cream and taking care of dental hygiene at the same time...isn't that what mint chocolate chip ice cream is for?
Prob close enough for someone like Norm or Art.
Running. Airplane repair. All of it. Starts the same exact way:
http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/05/04/476755684/ex-chemist-in-massachusetts-was-high-on-drugs-at-work-for-8-years?
MrsTHT says we'll gladly take all recalled Blue Bell.
Pens will be without their single most important player tonight. No, not Iceburgh. I'm talking about D Kris Letang.
Hornqvist made up for the missing Letang
Indeed he did! Talk about stress relief. I am no longer dreading the double shift at the BuyMore tomorrow. BRING IT!
p.s. be sure and watch the games tomorrow night for me, Jimmy. Go Predators. Go Blues? I like blue better than green, but what I'd like most out west would be two 7 game series.
Now I know why I was fretting when the game went to OT. The Penguins had lost 8 consecutive OT playoff games. Any of y'all play roller hockey? I did until my skates broke about 12 years ago. I miss playing. I don't think I've exercised since.
Can't say I've ever play roller hockey, THT ... I bet I could get into it. But it sounds like I would have to find other people that play it too. No small feat in this part of the world.
It's definitely more fun to have others for a real game instead of just practicing in the driveway or basement. I figure I'm too old to heal now, so I haven't bothered getting new skates.
THT: I like the Blues too, as they vanquished the hated Blackhawks.
Guys, I think we should all chip in and buy THT a new pair of skates so he can play roller hockey again. I don't want him to have to go 13 years without playing.
That saga continues!
http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2016/05/birmingham_alabama_giving_brit.html
I've got a better idea, E-Bro. Let's convince Blue Bell to have a carton top redemption program. Earn so many points and get free hockey gear! THT could send all of us skates!
Hmmmm. The FPI was ridiculed, by our lot, at the beginning of last season. It turned out to be pretty danged accurate. So it should be a little disconcerting for Gus that it's pumping out a similar ending to the 2016 story.
Granted, things can change, and a lot hinges on how the QB situation plays out. But ...
https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/is-auburn-a-top-25-team-espns-fpi-thinks-so
FPI doesn't measure grit, though.
FPI has about as much credibility as Hillary Clinton.
The far more trustworthy Suckometer says we're going to suck this year.
485 days until kickoff!
WARRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
is this 8BEASLEY!!!8 or 8BEASLEY!!!
I CAN'T TELL!
oops, I was a little loose with my 8s there. That's ok, The More 8s The 8etter
Phew, what an exhausting 3OT win. :))))
I got home from Buy More just in time for start of OT between Preds & Sharks. Got to see almost a full game. Way to go Predators!
I'm leaving for W-S in 6 hours, so I think I'll go catch a few winks. I'll be in Old Salem the rest of the day, so y'all have a great one.
WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!
any good map stores in W-S?
Speaking of maps ... Have you read The Ghost Map, THT? It's mostly dealing with Cholera and the history of how it got figured out, but there's a few chapters at the end specifically about maps. Pretty good stuff even with out the map tie ins.
http://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Map-Londons-Terrifying-Epidemic/dp/1594482691
Cowards. Well, stupid first then cowards: http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/05/06/477010650/boaty-by-another-name-sir-david-attenborough-is-chosen-for-british-research-ship?
That ship looks more like Boaty McBoat Face than any Sir David Attenborough. Thumbs down.
5dimes site has us as +9.5 for the opener. Little bit surprised at that. I would have guessed closer to +14.
bet the house on an Auburn win. Clemson can't handle our defense.
You bet the house! Specifically, bet that play house that you left on the patio that broke your kid's arm.
I can't. I lost that whole house betting on last season.
Gotta bet the real one this year.
Bet the fisher price kitchen set on JJ winning the Heisman this year. In the bag.
I'm not aware of any map stores in W-S, but MESDA has some wonderful maps in their collection.
bubbs, I don't read books. Perhaps you could post the entire text on HABOTN.
Boy, do I have a deal for you, THT. I checked out the audio book from my local library and listened to it on my way to work! Didn't even have to go to the lib. Just used my trusty phone with an app and downloaded it (Overdrive). I listen to a lot of audio books these days.
Dedicated to Doc HABOTN:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5LzOlNZPCc
Ever since my multiple eye surgeries of '09, I'm strictly audiobooks now. It's cool. I like it.
Got any recommendations, Norm? I'm always on the lookout for good fiction and non-fiction alike.
Norm, I'll have to wait til I get home to be able to check that link.
MrsTHT loves audiobooks.
Same reason I don't read books is why I don't listen to audiobooks. I can't stand to put a book down when I start reading it. If I don't have time to read it from start to finish, I don't bother. We'll occasionally listen to audiobooks on the long drive to/from Auburn. Speaking of which...
481 days til kickoff!
WARRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
bubbs, I highly recommend the following
The Southeast in Early Maps, 3rd edition 1998 DeVorsey/Cumming
The Mapping of North America (1500-1670) by Burden
The Mapping of North America II (1671-1700) by Burden
and, for a taste of local interest...
A List of 16th, 17th & 18th Century Material in the Rucker Agee Map Collection, Birmingham Public Library
THT, what are you trying to do to me? I can't even check out any of those books (let's not even mention the lack of audio options - something the map community really needs to address in reference to their books). One of them, I have to schedule an appointment for!!
audio map reference books is an awesome idea, bubbs. That's something I could listen to in the car. It's a shame Charlton Heston isn't available to record them.
Forget making an appointment, you can drop by my house any time.
I get too easily distracted to listen to audiobooks. Maybe if I was a truck driver or had a job that involved a long drive most days, but hard copies from the library is still my preferred book reading method.
I read paper books, too. But audio has become a major factor if for no other reason than I have about a 30 min to and from work. I got tired of feeling like that time was being wasted.
i listen to books on audible. can I check out books from your library for free too, bubbs?
Tonight we have good hockey.
Tomorrow night we have the Penguins.
Awesome country-style steak with mashed taters and gravy tonight. I am now making homemade biscuits so I can eat the leftover gravy without doing so straight from the pot.
driving down the interstate listening to audiobook is doable; driving 20-30 minutes in traffic to/from work is not. I'm guessing bubbs has a more genteel drive to work.
E-Bro, I'm guessing you think NC is stupid with its HB2 fiasco. Quite honestly, I still haven't read it and could possibly agree with you. However comma the feds need to keep their nose out of our business. How come they are suing NC over HB2 and have done absolutely nothing to the states that are violating federal law by selling weed? Seems like a double standard.
Sensational goal to send it to a game 7!!
The only audio series I have listen to is the Bowe Bergdahl serial podcast. I have learned a lot about the middle east.
Game 7 x 2 in West. AWESOME!!!
I'm guessing you probably can, MJT. Surely, it can't be that hard to find someone's Jefferson County library card number, and that's all you need to make it happen. Of course, it's probably a little easier to use your Madison County card.
Now I'm wondering if there's a black market for library card numbers out there. Hmm. An underground library card co-op. I may need to add this to my business ideas. Add this to my Murder of Crows and un-Forunate Cookies - I'm gonna be rich!!
I've looked into Audible. It would be nice to have access to all those new titles, but I probably average about 3.5 books a month. It would get expensive for me.
Aside from watching the QB situation, I think Cowart is at the top of my list of curiosity this year. In many ways this year will define him. Does he start trending up, or start the slide into bust/obscurity? He has lesser * players pushing for his job already. He's in legal trouble/the dog house. He went from being the shiny new star to the underdog that many would like to forget.
You're at a pivot point, Mr. Cowart. Where are you going to go?
https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/high-expectations-unfairly-placed-on-auburns-byron-cowart
Things are looking a shade brighter for the 2016 season. I've been combing over some pre-season info, and I'm pretty sure we will NOT be falling outside the top 25 after the first few games.
Here's a good explanation as to how that works: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/15462529/alabama-crimson-tide-no-1-clemson-tigers-move-post-spring-way-too-early-top-25
http://www.fastcodesign.com/3059681/budweiser-renames-its-beer-america
bubbs; depending on your level of Audible membership, you get X credits for books each month. Most times, 1 book = 1 credit. I have the Gold which gets me 1 credit monthly. By virtue of listening to a few long books, I have credits built up for the times when I may need them.
Works for me, but I get it if it's not for everyone.
That's the rub, Norm. I probably put in about 40 hours of listening a month. That would put me in the next plan up at $23/mo. Which isn't terrible, but I'm not a rich Hollywood type like Jimmy either.
The thing that does make me consider getting a membership is the fact that some things I would like to listen to aren't at the library. I could use my credit to be very selective and then fill out my listening with library finds ... I may eventually go that route.
These days I listen to ItunesU podcast/class type thing in the morning (all free) and book in the afternoon during my work/home transits.
I've tried to argue that we should cancel our audible subscription, but my wife says we have to have it or something for homeschooling reasons or whatever. The last book lasted me a couple of months (it was a 24+ hr history book), and the current one will last me about as long I imagine.
We have a library card for Huntsville library...and I also see our church has a library on that website. I think I'll give that overdrive thing a go.
THT, re: your 6:07 post from yesterday. Yes, I do. Can't speak to the current legal action being taken, however. Haven't read much about it.
I agree with Colbert in that I don't want to share a bathroom with anyone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv7d8EXxtqs
I can't wait for the Pens to lose tonight so I can stop dreading that happening.
I think the Pens should win just to spite you.
Me too!
The Capitals are the only team remaining that are on my "serious dislike" list. If they advance, I'll at least have someone to pull against.
Ironic that our National Capitals' team is a bunch of red commies, hate 'em
I'm spited, Ovechkin is smited. I'll take that.
What a total choke in 3rd period by the Penguins.
Was Crosby a "healthy scratch"? He was completely invisible.
Time to get ready for the dreaded Buy More Double Shift Wednesday Sale. Sweet dreams.
Man, this looking for a new gig deal is a PITA. I'll spend X hours a day in front of the pooter researching places, reviewing current openings and applying for current openings. I'm such a dead-solid match for a good many of the openings I've put in for that I tend to expect I'll be hearing from them within hours of my submission. Not so much. Oh well, guess it's like fishing. But I'm tired of fishing and ready to reel something in to the dock. Thank goodness for a healthy severance package.
On another note, I'm rather surprised at how little time I've had to watch sports lately. I'd love to watch some hockey playoffs but that hasn't happened. Dangit.
I wish we could trade my gig for your severance package. We'd have to keep it a secret from MrsTHT.
Game 6 = 7 points combined for Kessel, Bonino, Hegelin
6 Game Series = 4 points combined for Crosby and Malkin.
Penguins must get more from their most expensive players.
Hey, look E-Bro! It's about your old gig: http://qz.com/681753/the-united-states-newest-nuclear-power-plant-has-taken-43-years-to-build/
Sorry, Norm. Maybe you should change your career path all together. I hear there's a growing demand for Snugglers.
The problems encountered at Watts Bar essentially shot down any thought of bringing Bellefonte online. Lot of folks were counting on bouncing from one project to the other to stay employed.
http://www.ect.coop/industry/business-finance/tva-to-sell-unfinished-bellefonte-nuclear-plant/91495
Good to know I'll always have those ghost cooling towers to guide me home on the drives between the Noog and Hville.
Who in the world buys something like that, and what would you do with the existing infrastructure?
Spend 5 billion, sell for 36 million. I'm guessing TVA's head honcho didn't foot the bill.
so you go 72 all the way to the noog, e-bro? does it drive good?
I live in South Huntsville, so I generally head up and over the mountain around Jones Valley and go through Hampton Cove area before hopping on 72 around Gurley.
If I'm wanting a change of scenery, I might take back roads before hopping on around Woodville or I'll take 431 to 79 and hit it around Scottsboro, but usually take the Gurley route.
Easy, relaxing drive after that until you get on I-24.
Gotcha.
I only go through the Noog on the way to Atlanta to visit my sis from time to time, but usually I cut across through Mentone instead of going way up north.
On the way home this last trip, for giggles I went through the Noog and then went down 59 before crossing over to Scottsboro. That seemed waaaaaay slower than the 72 route.
And also we should have a Hotties Huntsville lunch some time. Bubbs said he'd come up for it.
My parents still live off 72 just before you get to Gurley. You guys should stop by their house some time and visit.
I can do that.
When I visit Eddie in ATL, I take back roads towards Gadsden before hopping on I-20 somewhere around Anniston, but he does live in Villa Rica on the west side. If he was in the North Atlanta area, Mentone would probably be my route as well.
It'd be something to meet your folks, bubbs, before I met you.
Working at the Buy More during a NHL game 7 should be against the law. I am thankful that both of them aren't tonight. I'm hoping tonight's game will go to 2 or more OT so I can see some.
Penguins went 0-2-1 against the Lightning in the regular season, being outscored 15-9 in three games. But those games were early in the season when Penguins stunk, right? NOPE! All 3 games played after Jan. 14 (i.e. when the Penguins were kicking everyone else's butts). Smart money is on TB.
Just checked the score. Ain't gonna be any OT tonight. When does the mercy rule kick in?
You know, I don't follow hockey at all, so based on your comments all year THT, I figured the Penguins were terrible. I should have remembered you are a sports pessimist and filtered those comments accordingly. But I didn't. So just look at me now. LOOK AT ME!
THT understands that as soon as he expects the Pens to do well, they'll lose. They exist to prove his opinion of them wrong, regardless of what that opinion is.
This is one of those nice stories about an AU player: https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/gentle-giant-prince-sammons-incredible-journey-from-nigeria-to-auburn
It's easy to get jaded about college football, but in truth it's a mixed bag like anything else. Definitely not pure, but it's not completely bankrupt either. To be honest, I don't expect much from Sammons. But in the grand scheme of things, who cares?
I agree. No one cares how much you expect from Sammons.
I think you read that wrong, MJT. I was trying to communicate that no one cares if I'm being honest or not.
THT: That was a beat down, nice. Now let do this Preds
How do you feel about Black Pistol Fire, E-Bro?
They kinda sound like a mash up between Black Keys and someone like Jet (the Australian one) to me. They've got a lot of blues influence like the Keys but more raucous/rock&roll like Jet.
Speaking of music. How are you guys feeling about A Moon Shaped Pool? From the small bit I've heard and the reviews I've read seems like an album I'll like.
Don't know much about Black Pistol Fire, bubbs. Have to check them out. The little bit I've heard from them, though, prompts me to ask if you've listened to Houndmouth at all? Their album from last year was one I really dug. It's hard to label them as a like for like because their style of rock is definitely a melting pot of other influences, but just the first snippets of BPF I listened to immediately made me think of them.
re: A Moon Shaped Pool...I suspect I'll be buying it as Radiohead is one of the few bands I still have a blind loyalty to, but I liked the two singles that dropped last week before the release and I've liked the snippets I've heard here and there on XMU. Definitely threw me for a loop that they put a version of True Love Waits on the album after all these years of kicking it around on tour or as a B-side.
I'm middle of the road on Houndmouth. I've got their first album. That said it's been a while since I've really listened to them, and I'm not sure I've listened to their latest. May have to give them another look.
So I borrowed a friend's pressure washer and have been using it a fair bit this week on the many SQFT of concrete. I enjoyed using it this morning on the front porch to rock the world of a couple of Chimney Sweeps who'd built a nest in the corner of my front porch. Don't f with me dumb birds.
Norm, if you have Chimney Sweeps on your porch, you might want to 1. Let them finish their job. B. Pay them so they can leave III. Call the cops.
If it's Chimney Swifts, on the other hand, THT might have birding advice.
chim chiminy chim chiminy chim chim charoo
D. Dance with them on the roof tops.
Norm, chimney swifts survive almost entirely on flying insects. Get rid of all flying insects and your problem is solved. Duh.
bubbs and E-Bro, The Original THT never got into rock music. Same can be said for me and noise.
Is English composition no longer a required college course for professional journalists?
The new law prohibits the issuing or renewals of a health center license to facilities within 2,000 feet of a grades K-8 public school where abortions are performed.
Are they really performing abortions in Alabama schools? I guess the public school system didn't want any competition.
Pekka Rinne should have broken that stick over his defensemen's heads, not over the goalpost.
Yeah, that was a beat down, Vince Gill is crying in his bear with his Preds jersey still on.
I'm fine with the birds in principle, I just don't want them nesting on my front porch. I left them alone last year and had quite the mess to clean up after the eggs hatched and everyone finally left.
So, Jimmy. Did Vince bring a Teddy Bear to the game, or is he so rich that he has a real bear that he's crying into? This is important.
BPF and Radiohead are probably not to your liking, THT, but I suspect Houndmouth would find themselves outside your "noise" category.
THT is the Grinch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsMlsDgMXJM
I for one look forward to the new Radiohead album. Like Ebro, they are one of the few "blind-buy" bands I have left in my life.
I think the only others are Pearl Jam and the Strokes at this point, though the PJ commitment is more out of duty at this point. Jack White almost makes the list, but I haven't gotten around to buying his latest yet.
I think we've had a version of this conversation before.
I had to find PJ later in life. It was really the Into the Wild album that reintroduced me to Vedder. From that perspective and working backwards I really like PJ, now. Strokes are cool and I think I have everything by White Stripes (what does Meg do now?), but not much of Jack's more recent work. Not sure why I don't.
Incidentally, shuffling through the artists on Jack's label (Third Man Records) has yielded me some nice finds. I found folks like Shovels & Rope and First Aid Kit by going through his site and listening to them.
Like me some First Aid Kit pretty good. Give me kind of a Fleet Foxes vibe, but with sisters who are from Sweden. Have also enjoyed the Margot Price album that dropped a few months back (think she is also on White's label), even at times I feel as though she's just trying to forge a commercial path as the female version of Sturgill Simpson.
Base line on Is This It is one of my all-time favorites, but that's the only Strokes album I have. Dug Room On Fire, but never purchased it, and have been in and out of their more recent stuff.
Radiohead probably is the only remaining older band that I'm blindly loyal to. I'd generally throw My Morning Jacket in there as well, but I still haven't gotten around to purchasing last year's album, mostly out of pure laziness. M83 has probably cracked that list as well.
*even if at times
*bass line
Forgot I need to start proof-reading myself better over here. Been out of practice too long.
I like me some Neil Sedaka and Paul Anka.
Ok, not really, but I just had to throw that out there.
Michael, that is one of my all-time favorite TV shows.
I just went here and was not at all offended. At least their drummer is wearing clothes.
The weekend begins in 53 minutes. I gotta go get ready.
477 days until kickoff.
WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!
To be fair, THT, the other drummer was wearing shorts. Plus, how else would you be able to see the tattoo on his upper arm?
Speaking of My Morning Jacket, E-Bro, how does the band Spanish Gold strike you? It's been one of those albums that gets better the more I listen to it.
Little bit I've heard of Spanish Gold I've liked. Haven't listened extensively, though.
Not a pretty start for the Penguins. I predict the Lightning in 5 or less.
Hmmm.... Ben Bishop being carried off on a stretcher. I sure hope he regains perfect health in June.
Psychology tells me TBL will double up on effort to pick up the slack and Penguins will coast, thinking they've been handed a ticket to the Finals .
The two goalies now playing have a combined age 2 years less than the age of Jaromir Jagr
Jaromir Jagr was in a hockey video game I played on Sega Genesis, so I know he must be really old.
Jagr, is like a fine cheese
White and smelly with fungal issues?
Anyone remembered where we were projected in '10/'13?
http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/predicting-the-sec-west-standings-in-2016/
How do X Factors compare to Intangibles? And where does grit fall in?
X factor goes next to "Football IQ," below "High Motor," and one point north of "Intangibles." I only have my 2014 chart in front of me, so I can't tell where everything falls in relation to "Grit."
"Grit" is a special subcategory of "Heart," which is at the top of any list.
Great top shelf goal by Crosby in OT!
Yes, indeed! Based on historical data, Penguins went from having ~5% chance of winning the series if they had lost first 2 games AT HOME, to 52% chance with that goal. My money would still be on TBL. Penguins just don't seem to match up well with them. At least TBL is only averaging 2.5 gpg instead of the 5 gpg they did against Penguins in the regular season.
bubbs, get back in the pit. It's a dangerous world out there.
Great NBA game last night. Now that's a real sport!
I doubt this makes a big difference for the bammers, but it makes that other run in with the law our players had look pretty trifling!
https://alabama.n.rivals.com/news/cam-robinson-hootie-jones-arrested-in-louisiana-on-weapons-charges
You spelled "WNBA" wrong, MJT.
Oh look what we have here it's a SPELLING NAZI thanks a lot bubbs jeez
I'm just waiting for the jai alai champsionship series. The preliminary rounds are real snoozers.
I bet Jai Alai is super fun to play.
I keep seeing people say we got "prime time" spot for the Clemson game. 8PM CST is not prime time. That's bed time!
On the up side, after the nation has watched how terrible we are, we should be relegated to the JP game for the rest of the season.
Mercy, it'll be 1:30 a.m. before we get back to our Newnan hotel. Maybe I'll look for something closer without venturing into the $$$$$$$$ peri-Auburn football weekend hotel zone. Of course, we may get back to the hotel a lot sooner if we leave after the 1st qtr.
473 days until kickoff
WARRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Fun fact of the day: Auburn has never lost to Clemson.
Hey what's for dinner tonight?
Actually, MJT, I have to apologize for the ambiguity. We shifted to conversation from Jai Alai (where your fun fact stands correct) to football.
Looks like garlic and cheese biscuits for dinner, MJT. Time is not going to allow the wife to do anything more (so she says ... this will be addressed on the next performance review, no doubt). I think I might throw some pasta together to compliment things.
What about you?! Will MJT eat tonight or get fork blocked by a gabby neighbor?
My usual Buy More dinner, packed lovingly by MrsTHT. Homemade chicky salad (with Duke's of course) sammich and various other odds and ends.
This is shocking.
Charlie Weis highest paid athletic department "employee" 5 years after being fired
No, that statement is not the shocking part. It's the fact that a private university would provide this information to USA Today.
bubbs - have you guys ever heard of protein? it eats good. as for us, the wife has said she will whip something up. none of our meat is thawed though, so I am wondering what will happen. She will probably go to the store and buy something not on sale and make me mad. Like in your household, tonight will be critical for the performance review.
Hey THT, did Mrs THT put any scratch in the chicky salad?
I made this page flip from scratch
I think she only uses scratch in cakes, brownies, biscuits, pizza dough, bread, and pie crust, so I'm guessing it's a starch. Chicky salad is really nothing more than blendered chicken and Duke's mayo. I asked her to leave any other ingredients out so that it would taste really good. She does bake the chicken and scratch the bones clean, so I guess that counts. She's way too cheap to buy boneless chicken breasts for my chicky salad.
this is a pretty awful movie with Henry Fonda; he deserved better. As did Jack Klugman and what's his name - Major Anthony Nelson/JR guy
Just a bunch of angry old men
