How was dinner, MJT?
Protein ... doesn't ring a bell. Not much of a meat eater.
Dinner was eventful.
I was picking kids up from swim practice, which has us getting home at around 8:00pm. So I get home and I smell deep fry oil, which is a good thing. But my wife is freaking out and saying she might be dying, which is a bad thing.
MrsMJT had gone by Publix and got the on-sale chicken and BOGO french fries. So far so good. She bought some not-on-sale tempura and coconut, but that can be excused due to the savings on the other stuff. So on the menu is coconut chicken fingers, something we used to make when we were newlyweds but haven't had in about 11 years.
She had put a bunch of oil in a large pot for deep frying and placed a cooking thermometer in the oil. She cooked the first round of chicken and ate some to test it. Then she looked back in the pot and the thermometer had busted. So she's freaking out that she might be mercury poisoned from her taste test. I'm like, I don't think they put mercury in cooking thermometers. Seems like that would get the manufacturers into trouble. So she is searching the internet, find the thermometer, finally figures out what's inside, then searches to try to figure out if it is safe, and she eventually concludes she isn't dying.
She finally gets back to cooking, and we end up eating at around 9:20pm. The final product was very good. She also made a fancy salad.
It will be very hard to grade this one on the performance review. The schedule was just all out of wack, but it wasn't exactly her fault. And the final product was yummy and nostalgic. I'm thinking I'll still give her Exceeds Expectations. Still a little room for improvement, after all.
how did the vegan bubbs clan do last night? Did all the carbs eat good?
Carbs ate good.
By the time I got home it was 6ish and Mrsbubbs was gone with Jr. to soccer practice. That left me at the house with the girls. When I walked into the kitchen, I saw that there were a few biscuits left. I deduced that everyone else had already eaten, and that I was going to have to go it alone for dinner. It was also clear that MomJr was the one that made the biscuits. Having completed her cooking chore, MomJr was not to be found. This is pretty normal, since she's basically an 11 yr old hermit that lives at the back of the house. So I decided to clean up a bit while I got the pasta going.
The Baby came in and started asking for something to eat about the time I had assessed the kitchen. Also normal. She's always dying from hunger despite hardly eating at meals. Before she could finish her plea, she noted that I was picking apart a biscuit and eating it. It was then she informed me that it was her biscuit, and that she was saving it. I pointed out that her name was not on the biscuit and she had no legal rights. Foiled, she switched to asking for work to do so she could make a couple dollars for field day. I told her to grab the broom and get to work.
Con Artist was busy with cartoons, so I didn't see her for a bit. When I did she also asked for a job paying money. When I told her to fold laundry, her need for cash suddenly dissipated. From then until the soccer crew arrived, Con Artist and The Baby made a general ruckus playing some made up game with Popsicle sticks and cups.
In the end, I had my pasta and a biscuit. I also ate some peanuts and gobstoppers for desert. It ate mighty fine.
Mrsbubbs did save me from having to go to soccer practice, but she left me alone with children. Not to mention, I had to find a way to sustain myself. I think the performance review will reflect that she should be using the children for labor more effectively. They could have a clean home and a nice spread waiting for me when I come home.
I've given up hope of a clean home, as we are all either messy or in denial about being messy ("I'm just too busy to clean"). So this doesn't even come into play during performance review time. It'd be like dinging her for not winning a decathalon gold medal.
It's like my grandmother told me one time: "One day you'll have a clean house, but all your kids will be gone*, and you'll miss them."
*per THT, this may not actually be true in all circumstances
Mrsbubbs is actually the most persnickety about the clean home thing. Clutter bothers half of us (Mrsbubbs, me and MomJr). And when you consider how small our house is 1. It doesn't take much mess to become overwhelming C. It doesn't take much picking up to keep it "clean." That said, there's no white glove inspections happening.
A saying we have in our house is "People are more important than things." So ... stuff slides.
Are you saying that THT wont miss his kids?
that THT is a heartless monster. Of course he won't miss them.
Nice stories gents
how about a map
https://twitter.com/conradhackett/status/733038829028904960
Did you time the posting of that map so your time stamp would be 420, Jimmy? Because it kinda fits.
You'll love it, THT!
I wouldn't mind an opportunity to miss my grandpuppies.
LB got a kick out of that *
I'm not going to Australia, but if I did, I wouldn't get any further east than Perth.
Will it be MrsMJT and Mrsbubbs's turn to post performance reviews tomorrow?
Pens spited you again, THT. Gonna be hard for them to lose in 5 now.
TBL won't win in 5, but I think it was more of a tease than a spite. TBL have the Pens right where they want them.. almost. TBL is looking for a repeat of 2011 when Pens went up 3-1 in the series, only to choke away the next 3 games. So, the spite may still be forthcoming.
TBL just needs to up their game in the Power Play and the Pens just need to watch out for icing and need to win more puck battles.
I think MJT's analysis is almost as good as Mike Milbury's.
Penguins obviously aren't going to have a 3-1 lead to blow this year.
Indeed. The Lightning fended off the Penguins for a Game 4 victory. Tampa Bay controlled the first and second periods, then held off a furious Pittsburgh rally in the third to claim Game 4 and even the Eastern Conference finals at 2-2. How do you like that?!
This would have been amazing to see.
Nice article, THT.
What do you think? They going to go back with Fleury or leave Murray in?
Why is errbody so quiet today? You guys find something better to do?
I've been stuck at the Buy More, buried under stock that I need to get on the shelves.
I would have started Murray but I don't have any strong argument for Fleury getting the start. However, I would have gone switched to Murray in OT. Fleury was getting weaker and weaker as the game wore on. He couldn't find the puck to freeze it on a few occasions. In the end, it probably would not have mattered. Murray is just as prone to getting beat up high. The Penguins skaters were getting weaker on defense as the game wore on. The dude had a wide open shot. Epic fail by the Penguins. I cannot watch tomorrow night. The pain would be unbearable.
Auburn softball better not let me down.
Present,
swamped with work, problem I like to have.
Two Game 7s coming? I hope so.
Hey look, MJT! They're making a 30 for 30 just for you: http://www.si.com/more-sports/2016/05/22/espn-30-for-30-ric-flair-ja-adande-the-undefeated-media-circus
Who are you routing for, Jimmy? I don't recall where your fandom resides. Do you love or love to hate the Sharks? I'm assuming their proximity may give you some strong feelings.

Hey. Does anyone know where we can find how many collective starts our OL has? That always seems to be one of the more consistent indicators ... This is when I wish Morrison was still a beat hack for us. He would always come up with some interesting statistical analysis. Most hacks just cobble together a collection of obvious statements for stories in the preseason.

The Pens are my team now that the Kings and Preds are done, I am not a Sharks fan, though they probably are playing the best of all the teams now. #neversharks

The Pens are my team now, I am not a Sharks fan
Looks like you'll have to be a TBL fan. I'd be shocked if STL can win 2.
Happy 75th, Bob!
You can't understand him anymore live, but I still like his stuff. It's also a little known fact that he lurks on this blog.
The Pens won it for Bob's birthday.
How about that game, THT? Murray did well. Crosby was on fire. You started out with a 3-0 lead before the Pens remembered they were supposed to be spiting you. Of course, at that point it was too late, and they had to win anyway.
On to game 7!
What are you going to do between now and the next NHL season? You've got another year and change before AU football starts.
bammer is number one on a list: http://picksixpreviews.com/fashion-wars.html
bama holds all spots on my list of Most Hated Teams.
KEEP HATE ALIVE!
actually, the Pens didn't care so much about Bob. They won it for LB's birthday.
All around good day yesterday: Zack's hot dogs, Putt-Putt, Thai Cafe (aka Surin's in Atlanta and the 'Ham), and an unexpected win from the Penguins.
Smart money is still on TBL. Penguins Game 7 history:
Home 2-7
Road 5-0.
It's a shame they couldn't have stayed in Tampa for the next game. Somebody needs to put a big "VISITORS" sign on the Pens locker room door.
bubbs, after a trip next week with MrsTHT, I'll be at work the rest of June, July, and August, including a bunch of weekends. Helps kill the time. I'll try to squeeze in some map research.
Norm, my hate will be alive long after I'm dead. I'll hate ua-t from the grave.
Hey, MJT, you should probably write this guy a strongly worded open letter. He's trying to lower the value of "Grit."
http://www.vox.com/2016/5/25/11683192/iq-testing-intelligence
I was busy and couldn't watch, so I checked the score and Pens trailed 2-1. Next time I checked, TBL was up 7-1. I turned off the dream and woke up.
I promise that wont be the score, THT.
So. We've lost a couple players the past couple days.
Do we qualify Roc as a bust? He never could get away from all the spinning. Never really seemed to figure out how to play RB at the next level.
FootballScoop Staff
@FootballScoop
Art Briles is being fired, reports Craig Smoak
Oh, hey. That's a pretty big deal. How do you feel about Briles wearing orange in 2017, THT?
Hot diggity! I hope there isn't some NCAA sanction that prevents us from hiring him.
Oh, did I forget to tell y'all that, despite 2-7 home record in game 7s, the Penguins were 6-0 in Game 7s when trailing in a series 3-2?
I won't get to watch the first 3 or 4 games of the Finals :(
GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great game! almost as evenly matched as Jairam Hathwar and Nihar Janga fighting until the end to be co champions.
Of course, they are now 7-0 in Game 7s when trailing in the series 3-2. And 8-7 overall in Game 7s.
GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's beat the Sharks!
Jimmy, pull them through for me.
Didn't get to watch, but it sounded like a fun game.
Did you notice Crosby grabbing that Prince of Wales trophy, THT?
Yes, bubbs. He did not touch it in 2008. He proudly hoisted it in 2009. That superstitious stuff is a bunch of baloney.
Uniforms! https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/check-out-the-changes-to-auburns-uniforms-for-2016
At the post-game press conference, they had name placards for him and Murray facing the press. As they walked in for the presser, Crosby switched positions of the placards so that he was sitting to Murray's left instead of to the right. I was not aware how critical seat position at a post-game press conference was to the team's success.
You say that, THT, but I bet you'll be pulling out your lucky underwear during the finals.
Seat position is crucial!
The superstition stuff can't be any worse than it is in baseball. But you know. Whatever makes the guy feel good so he can play better/focused.
Of course I will, bubbs! But it's still a bunch of baloney. I hope I can figure out how to watch the games via internet on my iphone. We'll be out of town without TV access to games 1-3.
Thanks for the uniform tease. Twitter images/links aren't allowed in prison :(
(I can't believe they still allow access to HABOTN)
“Peaky Blinders” 3rd Season on Netflix this Tuesday. Still waiting for 3rd season of "Detectorist" to show up on Netflix. I did not do AcornTV yet.
Oh... and this
A pro quarterback and special guest mentors help young kids shoot for the stars in the new series “All In With Cam Newton.” 8 p.m. Nickelodeon
Seems like it's taken ages for S3 of Peaky Blinders. Probably be forever and a day before the next Detectorist installment.
As soon as the Quest for the Cup is over, I will likely give the Acorn a try for season 2 of The Detectorist. I think I'll need to first review season 1.
Time for parole soon. Y'all have a great weekend.
WARRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Buongiorno
How 'bout them softball Tigers!
sounds like I missed a good hockey game.
Yes, however I did feel like the Pens were going to win throughout the game.
Sweet dreams, Jimmy. I had all sorts of weird dreams. The final score was 5-3, but the winning team was initially the Penguins but then changed to the Sharks
You know what? I hate the Warriors. Go Cavs!
I have about as much interest in the NBA finals as I have in cultivating opium poppies
GO PENGUINS!!!
So you're saying you've got a great deal invested in the NBA finals, THT?
I don't hate the Warriors, but 14 year old me refuses to believe that these guys are better than the 95-96 Bulls, 73-9 and possible NBA Championship or not. So I wouldn't mind if the Cavs denied them that mythical claim of "best team ever".
I don't garden. At. All.
GO PENGUINS!!!
MrsTHT and I binge-watched The Man in the High Castle, for lack of tv. Did you know that when Jimmy has an 11pm work-related meeting on the west coast, people in NY are just sitting down to dinner? Or that it is the middle of the night in Beijing and NYC simultaneously? Stupid show.
Yeah, I initially turned on the Warriors because of the Bulls thing, but now Draymond Green has been so annoying that it took it to another level.
Cavs will probably get swept, though. They will go down the toilet faster than a handful of opiates at THT's house when the police knock on his door.
If the Cavs took 'em to six games last year without Love and Irving, I gotta think they'll avoid the sweep, and I'm interested to see what effect the OKC series has on Golden State mentally and physically. Maybe it galvanizes them. Maybe it drains them.
Oh My
Verne Lundquist will step away from SEC football on CBS after 2016 season, replaced by Nessler.
If Klay and Steph go cold, the Cavs have a chance.
The problem for the Cavs is that Irving and Love are both terrible defenders. They'll be stuck trying to outscore the Warriors with those guys in. We'll see if they can do it.
I doubt they can as well. Just feel like this still has the possibility of being an interesting series. Something has felt off about the Warriors all playoffs. Even that Portland series was the closest five game series I think I've ever seen. Maybe it's just Steph hasn't been operating at peak level much of the time (due to not being 100%). Maybe he's finally starting to come out of it and that spells doom for the Cavs.
Even with him and Klay getting hot last night, it was all the other Warriors role players all the sudden not being able to miss the three ball that really allowed them to stretch their lead during that second half run. Kind of impressive that OKC got back in at the end.
hallelujah on our way to airport to leave Venice . I picked up a souvenir respiratory infection here.
I wouldn't worry too much about that infection, THT. It's probably TB or SARS. You'll be resting comfortably under a 6 ft blanket in a matter of just a couple weeks.
I'm feeling bettuh
Crawled in bed as soon as we got to London. When I woke up MrsTHT had cough medicine, ibuprofen, and diet coke for me. Had to cancel an appt to see Edward Moseley's 1733 map of NC at Eton College. It's one of only 3 known copies and the only one that is intact.
bubbs, remind me some day to tell you about MrsTHT's SARS phobia when we were here in 2008
Any chance of getting another appt scheduled while you're there? I imagine it could be tough. There has to be a massive queue of people waiting for their chance at a glance of that map. Could be years before you get another chance, unless you've got some connections.
You've piqued my interest on the SARS front. Do tell when you have the time.
I love this kind of data map
https://vimeo.com/168329621
rather infographics
Nice, Jimmy.
Right now I'm reading (listening) to this book: https://www.amazon.com/Storm-War-History-Second-World/dp/0061228605/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1464796067&sr=1-1&keywords=the+storm+of+war
Kinda colors how I look at a graphic like that.
Too many other agenda items this trip; it will give me an excuse to come back. Plenty of other maps to be seen this week.MrsTHT absolutely loves BBC TV. I'd rather have NBCSN.
Sounds like you can convince MrsTHT to get Acorn TV then you can use it to watch Detectorist!
absolutely!
Jimmy, I like that other headline from your link, i.e. the one where Trump wants to make us all millionaires
Sounds like socialism. I may be coming around on Trump.
See, that's the thing about Capitalists and Socialists. When someone tells you that they want to make you a millionaire, regardless of which camp they fall into, they're lying to you.
Do they want to make us multi-millionaires instead?
I want to make you all millionaires.
MJT continues to support Trump's platform. SMH. I wish I could say I was surprised.
Welp. I think this officially marks the beginning of the end for Gus:
"“He’s our coach and he’ll be our coach for a long, long time,” Jacobs said Wednesday at the SEC’s spring meetings. “He’s a brilliant offensive mind, took us to two national championships: once as a coordinator, once as a head coach. There’s a bunch of schools in this league that would love to be in our position with a guy like him. That’s a tough league. This league is tough every day. It doesn’t matter what year it is — year in, year out, how many years you’ve been here or whatever it may be. There is no doubt about it: he’s the right guy for Auburn.”"
https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/jay-jacobs-gus-malzahn-will-be-auburns-coach-for-a-long-long-time
Poor Gus.
Kind of messed up Jacobs would make it public like this right before the season.
If Ernest T. Bass made me a multi millionaire, I would vote for him.

Some good news,
No.2 Dual Threat QB says Auburn is the leader after he de commits from Baylor. #WarEagle
He will be starting QB when coach Coach Gary Patterson heads to plains to start coaching in 2018.
E-bro at 1:06 made me LOL. MrsTHT not pleaaed that you woke her up.
Conflicting scores kept popping into my dream, so I had woken up to check score. Yea Penguins!!!
There are more than 15,000,000,000,000,000 nanoseconds between now and December. That's a very long time. I did not know JJ was a nano-ist. I suppose Jim Grobe will be available then.
Nice catch. It's funny in a gallows humor sort of way...

Sounds like the media is reporting that THT was implicated in the death of Prince. He must have been a map burner or something.
the media got it wrong. No surprise there.
more like lame-stream media!

That's a good one.
My boy Paul Ryan showed he is spineless today. I guess that basically leaves Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney as far as Republicans who still oppose Trump. And those guys are kind of tools.
"Where have all the cowboys gone?" - Thomas Jefferson
No chance of me voting for Trump or Clinton. I'm not anti-any-particular-party, per se. But goodness. Meteor, indeed.
I'm anti-all parties.
party pooper.
I'm all for AU softball!

At least we have softball.
After a week of vacation, I'm now back at work in a twitter-free facility, so I have no idea to what Jimmy linked. However, last night the Twitter app was open and MrsTHT was reading each game-related tweet to me on the drive home from IAD.
Got home just in time for the 8th inning, then saw the replay of VD's spectabulous catch. GO TIGERS!!!
Tonight: 8pm hockey vs 8 pm softball. That's a no-brainer. GO TIGERS!!!
This is for The Strokes fans, bubbs and MJT.
Was driving around yesterday and heard a Real Estate cover of Barely Legal on the radio that I wasn't previously aware of. Definitely a mellowed out version. Like if Beachwood Sparks was doing the cover instead of Real Estate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA1xMN2ZK2I
Nice cover, E-Bro. Can't say I'm that familiar with Real Estate. May have to check out some of their other stuff.
Since we're on the subject of music, you ever get into Shakey Graves? And The War Came album is a favorite of mine. I think you would enjoy it.
You know, I saw his ACL performance as well as his Tiny Desk Concert some time back and liked both quite a bit, but haven't delved too deeply past what I listened to there. Need to rectify that.
Don't know much about Real Estate except the few songs I've heard on the radio the last year or so from their last album, Atlas. I dug them, alright. If I had to describe their sound based on that small sample size, I'd say it sounds like Dream Pop, but played with standard rock instruments. If that makes any sense. This Strokes cover sounded more psychedelic, which kind of threw me off.
I've been listening to Dog Panacea's latest album, My Train Leaves from Terminal Velocity. Track 8, Arctic Terntable is on an endless loop right now.
I like that cover lot, EBro. Thanks for sharing.
I like it when a cover song changes style and it still really good in a different way. My favorite line in that song (why won't you wear your new trenchcoat?) is totally changed by the style of the song changing. Changes it from cocky pettiness to broken-hearted pettiness.
MJT is into pettiness.
I have no idea what THT is talking about.

More data confirming Gus' demise
Gus Malzahn signs contract extension at Auburn through 2020
bit.ly/1TSnK2
Mercy, Jimmy. He's obviously already been fired and it just hasn't been made public. I hope they have a really good search committee working on finding us a great head coach.
I watched softball until a few pitches before it became 3-0, at which point I turned to hockey. No team since the Red Wings in 1942 has blown a 3-1 series lead in the Final. Of course, no team since the Red Wings in 1942 had blown a 3-0 series lead in the playoffs until the PENGUINS in 1975. So, I will officially remain skeptical [wink, wink]
THT: how many days to kickoff for 2016?
Well, we have to assume you're not talking about AU, Jimmy. They don't have a 2016 season.
452 days until kickoff, 2017!
WARRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Yall are chumps. Auburn gonna win an SEC Champeenship this year.
I'll set it up this way,
Auburn play Clemson September 3rd minus June 7th equals a number that could be the jersey number of a certain player from the 70s.
lol we all know Auburn didn't have a football team in the 70s
Jimmy, you are awesome!
88 days until I may not have to be in JHS if I can talk MrsTHT into going to Wales for an event she would absolutely love to attend. WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!! GO TIGERS!
"How many days until Auburn starts scrimmaging against other collegiate teams in preparation for the 2017 season?"
Does that work for you, THT? Asking for future reference.
I don't even want to think about AU football until next year, or until we are 5-0, whichever comes first. I reserve the right for MrsTHT to change my mind.
Poll question!
Which will happen:
a) THT doesn't think about AU football till 2017
b) AU goes 5-0 to start 2016
c) MrsTHT changes THT's mind about 2016 AU football
d) Ham Sammich
The smart money is on c, but I'm hungry and I'd love to have a ham sammich. D!
wow, that was a fantastic game last night. GO TIGERS!!!
It was really exciting to follow on Twitter. Loved seeing all the football players doing their snapchat reactions to the big plays.
Crazy. What a way to win a game (or preserve it or whatever).
I know AU fans want to break out of the constant "we're the underdog" roll/motivation, but it sure makes for exciting viewing. I suspect this series, regardless of outcome, will peak the interest of some talented young softball players. There's that.
Heye THT, do you think American flags should be on Confederate graves?
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/07/us/shiloh-national-park-confederate-graves/index.html
Nice write up on the game: http://espn.go.com/espnw/sports/article/16024997/auburn-wins-game-2-women-college-world-series-hard-way
I've been surprised by all the trash talk the softball girls have been doing in their interviews. Is there some bad blood with Oklahoma I'm not aware of? Or are the ladies just super cool like that all the time?
MJT bringing hard hitting questions today!
That's a tough one. Obviously, this isn't something I've thought much about, but I would say you could fly both but not just the American flag on the graves. Both being there signifies their allegiance, and the fact that the current union respects their contribution. No ill will or disrespect to those of the opposing side. I also wouldn't have a problem with them just flying a Confederate flag. It is what they fought and died for, and (at the very least) a strong argument can be made that they weren't fighting for a nefarious agenda.
Contrast that with German solders from WWII. I don't think anyone would be cool with flying Nazi flags on their graves.
Do you have a link to transcript or video, MJT? I haven't seen any, so I dunno if you're being sarcastic or if I'm missing some good jabs by the Lady Tigers.
Also, for the sake of clarity: I do think much of the "War of Northern Aggression" did have to do with slavery, though not solely so. It's complicated ... But I think it's pretty well documented that those fighting for the Confederacy most often didn't have ideological motives (i.e. slavery ... that was primarily a rich man's concern).
So, I'm not bitter about the Union winning, but I'm not too judgmental of those who fought for the Confederacy either.
Confederate flag and U.S. flag, or just Confederate flag. Since I live in the occupied CSA (I don't recall hearing of the CSA government ever surrendering), I'd be happy to have a Confederate flag at my grave. Except, I'd prefer to be cremated. And then there's MrsTHT who, if she outlives me, wouldn't allow Confederate flag even though she dislikes yankees.
we got out of London just in time
I think it's time to turn the wipers off
Maybe put state flags on their graves instead. Common soldier's loyalty (as far as any kind of cause goes) was probably to that as much as (if not more) than anything else in fighting.
Not that state flags don't also come with their own troubled legacy.
bubbs: The trash talk was mild. It was like "Oklahoma didn't think we had this in us," "we got their good pitcher figured out so we ain't worried," and "the first game was a warm-up act" and that sort of chill shade.
Well played, Lady Tigers.
E-Bro is a yankee spy.
That's just, like, your opinion, man.
Speaking of slavery and such, my wife is reading Frederick Douglass's autobiography, and he has a song about slavery (written by someone else) that is just heartbreaking. You can read it here:
http://www.infoplease.com/t/hist/douglass-narrative/appendix2.html
"They'll loudly talk of Christ's reward,
And bind his image with a cord,
And scold, and swing the lash abhorred,
And sell their brother in the Lord
To handcuffed heavenly union."
"We wonder how such saints can sing,
Or praise the Lord upon the wing,
Who roar, and scold, and whip, and sting,
And to their slaves and mammon cling,
In guilty conscience union."
It's amazing and downright troubling knowing the blind spot our southern Christian ancestors had with regard to slavery. It makes you wonder what blind spots we have today.
MrsTHT has eyes in back of her head.
Of course, she has the usual complement of forward-facing eyes.
I dunno, MJT. But I've wondered the same thing more than once. And the blatant racism in the theology of evangelicals (all the way up to mid-20th century - think apartheid) is often used as an example of how it's a pattern ... I think "troubling" is a good way to describe it.
well, rats.
Great effort from our AU softball team last night. WARRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
I don't know enough scripture to say what a blind spot is for sure or not, but my view from the cheap pews up here is that there's a blind spot towards homosexuality.
Then again, maybe it's not all that pervasive outside of the systematic level of some churches - not all churches/denominations preach against homosexuality - and it's the parishioners who are ahead of the clergy on this.
Good news is that our bull pen is loaded. Fr/So pitchers are two of the better ones out there (if I understand correctly ... this isn't exactly my sport). Also looks like we're getting player of the year on the HS level coming in next year:
http://usatodayhss.com/2016/all-usa-softball-player-of-the-year-ashlee-swindle-curry-jasper-ala
According to that site, we have another signee from the first all-American team.
No surprise, but softball isn't to the level where the major sites follow its recruiting. I know we lose a lot of seniors (10?), but from what I can tell there shouldn't be a major drop off next year.
It's fun having a sport to be excited about in the doldrums of summer.
E-Bro, the LGBT debate is certainly one that's been put into that arena of questioning "traditional" biblical thinking. Has it been a blind spot in our past/present? I've struggled with that question quite a bit. I've read quite a bit. To this point, I've not been able to see how it aligns with Scripture. And it's not for lack of trying.
That said, that community has certainly not been treated properly/lovingly by the evangelical community. So even with those of us who disagree that it's a moral state in which to live, there's work to be done.
And time will likely sort the matter out. There's only a small sliver of folks who hold to Christianity and maintain racist teaching (not to be confused with racist thinking/acting ... my theology says racism is likely a sin in every man's heart that has to be dealt with persistently).
I can only hope that down the road when all my blind spots seem obvious (I'm hoping that point comes after I'm dead), that folks will not judge me harshly because of it. I try to keep that in mind when looking into the past. We all bear cultural baggage. Because mine is not the same as that guy's 200 years ago, it doesn't make me any better. I'm just as broken.
Hey look, THT!
High brow smack talk: http://www.npr.org/2016/06/09/481295921/stanley-cup-inspires-artwork-bet-highbrow-trash-talk-between-2-museums?
To your last point, read a good article a few weeks back (on Louisa Adams of all things) that touches on that duality a bit, as well as the duality of being anti-slavery in the first half of the 19th century, but living with the institution in day to day life.
http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/so-palpable-a-stain-the-adams-family-and-slavery-in-washington-d-c
After careful consideration, I have figured out that I have no blindspots and see everything rightly.
So if y'all have any questions, just ask me.
How long will Gus be at AU, MJT?
Until he retires at age 74.
Next question.

San Jose winning tonight would be sinful, fo sho.
Thanks for that link, bubbs.
One of the girls on the 1st team is a junior 8 miles north of my house. She's committed to Miss. State. Obviously, I must make a trip to the ATM tonight.
Another is a sophomore in KY who is committed to ua-t. That needs to change. She is unhittable.
Pens need to pull it together. Let's put this to bed Sunday.
Some pretty good ones here: http://qz.com/704065/stephen-currys-middle-aged-dad-sneakers-are-being-mercilessly-mocked-by-the-internet/
Sometimes I feel like whoever our head recruiter is is asleep at the wheel. Is it just coincidental that he was picking between AU/bammer/fsu commits to bammer the week after our biggest recruiting weekend? Supposedly, we were even leading several weeks ago. Every year, bammer has a couple gotcha! moments for us in recruiting. Is there a reason we don't play the game?

"Alabama has better coaching." ZING!
Can't argue there.
but Auburn's got grit. And Auburn Men, too.
The pit is full of grit. No doubt.
I like it. "The Grit Pit"
Hey, we should start an online petition to nickname Jordan-Hare "The Grit Pit." Much better than "Jungle."
Pens need to pull it together. Let's put this to bed Sunday.
Sunday is, in essence, game 7 for the Penguins. I don't think they've ever won a game 7 when leading a series with 3 wins. 3-2, 3-1, even 3-0 means nothing if it gets to game 7. Too bad the Sharks didn't have the 3 wins. Penguins are undefeated in game 7 if they trailed 3-2 in the series.
Thankfully, I fell asleep during the 2nd intermission last night.
I guess I'll just have to cower in the pit for the rest of my life.
re: "better coaching", check out what Baylor fans had to say about CGM:
Personally, I'm not convinced Gus is a better answer than any of the coaches we've mentioned in recent days...Monty, Babers, Herman, Fedora, Morris, etc. Here's what we know about Gus: He was a good OC at Tulsa with a QB he inherited. He was a good OC at Auburn with Cam...who COULDN'T be a good OC with Cam. He did well at Arkansas State as HC for one year with someone else's players. Then, he went to the BCS title game in '13 with Chizik's players, including a QB that transferred from Georgia. He won nine games in '14 with Nick Marshall returning at QB. Now, he has a roster without a decent QB. In other words, he's coordinated offenses with QBs that he's inherited, not evaluated, recruited, developed.
If all others say no, I'd take Gus. But, Gus is a risk because he hasn't proven he can recruit/construct a roster...especially at QB. That bothers me a lot.
http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2016/06/baylor_fans_debate_hiring_aubu.html
MrsTHT and I gave a War Eagle! to Gene & Jonna Chizik in the Chick-fil-A on Saturday morning.
Nice win Pens!
I always love the post game handshake
Finally, I can order some new Pittsburgh Penguin t-shirts.
The Pens listen to me, THT. That should worry you.
Got anything to say to Auburn?
Pretty nice break down of Gus by the Baylor fans. It does make me wonder about one thing, though. How much say did Gus have in regards to who was recruited while on CGC's staff? I mean, if he pretty much got his say for who they went after on the offensive side of the ball it kinda nullifies the idea that he can't recruit the right players. On the other hand, you can't have it both ways. Either his evaluation of QBs is generally lacking, or he doesn't know how to develop them once they come in.
I'm guessing the truth is somewhere in between. QBs are hard to project. With each new jump in level (from HS/D1/NFL), it appears to be less than a 50/50 proposition on whether or not they'll turn out to be any good. So I wont fault Gus for not having a Cam every year. However, I don't understand how he's stacked the roster. Sure you have to have other options but Grit Laser and Queen don't really fit his system. Why go for those guys and waste a scholly?
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I don't even know how much "developing" of a QB can be done. You can't make JJ not afraid to get hit. You can't make Grit a runner. You can't keep Queen from ... well, being Queen. JJ made mistakes last year that I'm pretty sure he was coached not to do. He's just not a gamer. He's a practice player at best. With his physical attributes, I doubt he was ever tested enough in high school to prove that true before now.
So I guess I'll go with 60% roster management, 20% poor evaluation and 20% bad luck. That's Gus's problem regarding our current QB situation.
Our best hope is that AU wants to spite THT like the Pens did, E-Bro. It's not much, but that's where we're at.
I think their specs for a "typical" personal computer are a little off, but it's a nice article otherwise:
http://insidehpc.com/2016/02/auburn-university-unveils-1-million-supercomputer-initiates-new-technology-acquisition-plan/
I think it's interesting that opinions on message boards now qualify as "news".
Can't wait for the al.com article titled "Auburn Fan Claims Ability to Play Every Drive-by Truckers Song on Guitar"
AU can spite me all the way to T'loser and back. They may have their first opportunity to do so on Sept 3 if MrsTHT decides to go to Wales instead of Auburn. Oh, and by the way, bubbs, if that happens, we can kiss our Alaska trip goodbye for this year.
You're putting me in a real bind here, THT. I'm not sure I can handle a lost season AND no Alaska trip. That makes for far too much Baylor message board reading until the start of softball.
bubbs, don't strain your eyes. You've got approximately 241 days until softball.
bubbs and THT are/were going to Alaska?
Played pickup bball today on the arsenal, as I often do. There was some young new guy there, apparently someone's brother or brother-in-law or something. Anyway, I had to guard him in two games. Now normally I am one of the lockdown defenders in these parts, but I couldn't guard this new dude at all. He could shoot over me or get by me whenever he wanted. He w as making threes from a few steps inside of half court. I was actually getting a bit discouraged. In all my years playing, including high school bball in the memph, and playing intramural ball against Courtney Taylor and other intramural bball legends, I had never been this unable to guard someone.
So I asked my buddy after the last game, "So does this dude play college ball somewhere?"
He tells me, "Nah, he's about to be a high school senior."
I'm all like "whhhaaa??"
And he was like, "yeah, he's one of the top recruits in the nation."
I was like, "OK, this makes more sense now."
He is a five star recruit. He was actually wearing Auburn shorts today, but according to 247, he will likely be going to Kentucky:
http://247sports.com/Player/John-Petty-69923
We lost by two points in the last game to his team, 17-15. We had plenty of opportunities to win but just couldn't hit the game winners. Oh well.
I'm still holding out hope that MrsTHT wont go to Whales and that we ARE going to Alaska.
I'm glad you brought up lights out HS players and recruiting, MJT, because you just can't script this stuff.
We got a commit today from a long snapper: http://247sports.com/Bolt/No-2-long-snapper-commits-to-AU-45785351
We were able to battle it out with Memphis and Samford to get his commit.
Stick a fork in Gus.
Also, you're getting old, MJT. I don't think that kid is all that good. You've lost a couple steps.
I have definitely lost very many steps, but he had me thinking I had lost 3 times as many steps as I have actually lost, but now I know my assessment of the number of steps I've lost is an accurate assessment.
I've actually played that long-snapper dude in some pickup long snapping games. He's the real deal, too.
It's almost as if one of us was writing that long snapper article as a joke
"Bill is already one of the best snappers in the country but what makes him special is he hasn't reached his full potential yet."
Bill The Snapper: Reaching Potential
Pretty sure that's ESPN 30 for 30 in about 10 years.
We have what, like 6 QBs on scholly? Now Gus is handing one to a long snapper. I'm definitely calling Gus out on his roster management. Is there a course he can take on that or something? Maybe find a clinic that teaches it?
He's also, clearly, oblivious to AU football history.
I wonder if Gus's phone battery is dead? He hasn't said, "BOOM!!!" on Twitter yet.
He's probably timing it to have max effect against bammer recruiting.
Maybe he'll tweet, "Oh, snap!" instead.
Drum and cymbal...
First!
Based on the above news, I have no regrets in splurging on Penguins Stanley Cup championship shirts & hoodies. Y'all have completely alleviated any concern I might have had that I needed to hold some cash in reserve for similar AU paraphernalia.
Second!!
