Got good news today: I won't be benched for Auburn's first game even though I messed up that page turn. This has nothing to do with the fact we are playing Clemson, either.

72 yesterday in Laramie with 12% humidity. Sounds awesome. Then there's the little matter of 35mph wind most of the day. I'd still take it over our moldy muggy weather.

bubbs, I think Cincytiger snuck up behind and placed orange sun glasses over your eyes.

Disappointment from unmet expectations is far worse than a pleasant surprise. I'll wait for results worthy of boarding the Gus Bus.

I was being snarky, THT. It was nothing but coach speak. Unless Cincy is reading this. If Cincy is reading this, I've completely bought in. The world has a definite orange tint to it.

Okay, so I figure you might know the answer to this. I'm a fan of a lot of Netflix originals and such. One thing I can't figure out. They'll suck me in after a couple/few episodes, then introduce all the gratuitous skin. I don't understand that. If someone is looking for a show with lots of boobs, wouldn't they have bailed already after the first few episodes? Conversely, if I'm already invested in a show for the story, why bother with it?

I'm sure there is reasoning behind it, but it's not obvious to me. To be fair, I've noticed this as a Netflix thing, but I'm sure they're not the only ones that do it this way.

1:23 PM

I feel ya on your Netflix complaint, bubbs. There have been many Netflix, HBO, or other pay channel shows I'd like to watch but didn't because I knew they have strong sexual content (especially bitter about game of thrones).

On the one hand, I'm like, it is 2016, people can see this stuff (and much much more) on demand on their phones or computers or whatever, why you gotta steam up these shows?

But I'm guessing the truth is that the group of people who are OK with cussing and heads getting blown off but not OK with boobs and weiners swinging everywhere is a pretty small percentage of viewers. It's basically you, me, and maybe 10-15 other people.

So to your original question on why they would wait a couple of episodes to get raunchy, they probably figured you knew what you were getting into when you saw that head get chopped off at the beginning of the first episode.

Appears that Saban mixed it up with Finebaum today. Got into it over the Cam Robinson arrest stuff. They got into during the SEC network interview then it carried over into the break. From the looks of twitter, we should be able to eventually get an idea of what was said during the break. All I've read so far was that Saban insinuated the arresting officers were LSU fans.

Also, Saban gave a big long speech on how great Verne is. So. You know. That confirms MJT AS A BAMMER!!!

12:03 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I hold to a "rising tides of listeria raises all toilet seats" theory of listeria economics. This is where I remind you that I'm not voting for one of the major parties. Trump just tells you how great he makes listeria. So I don't see how he'll be any more effective.

12:10 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

bubbs, you and LB have the same voting intention. I tell him almost every day, as far as election outcome goes, not voting for one of the major parties is almost indistinguishable from voting for Hillary.

12:43 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

1. I'm bound by conscience (as a Christian) to vote for the candidate I think would be best for the job. The outcome is not my concern (sovereignty and all that).

2. That's wonky logic. My vote is for the person I voted for. No amount of "equating" changes that. Voting, in my mind, is not a strategic endeavor.

3. It's a false dilemma:
a. I'm in a red state. If you're logic follows, my vote doesn't matter anyway. My state will go for Trump. (Statistically, LB can argue the same. His vote doesn't matter).
b. Let's say that I would normally vote Red. The only way they will hear my objection to their current trajectory is through casting my vote elsewhere. Otherwise, I'm following the party rather than the party representing me. It's backwards. If folks would vote their true beliefs, if not thing else we might get more than two parties. So you see, I'm not the problem it's the rest of the folks.
c. It's never wrong to do right. Let's say we had Hitler(D) and Stalin(R) as our "choices" this year. Would you still vote for one over the other and be okay that you voted for one of those guys? At some point, does the "lesser of two evils" argument become moot? We live in a country where you don't have to vote for either! I mean, you can always say, "No, I refuse to vote for either one. I'll write someone in/vote for someone that isn't a 'choice.'"

Bottom line: I don't fear HC or DT becoming president. Truly, I'm not worried about it. I feel like it's my responsibility (as citizen and Christian) to vote principledly.

1:16 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Dang it, THT! I've got stuff to do, and you baited me into that post! I'm not changing anyone's mind over here. STOP IT!

1:17 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Don't sell yourself short, bubbs. You changed my mind. I'm no longer going to provoke you into commenting on voting philosophy.

NC is not a guaranteed red state anymore. I bet close to half the population is from up north. We voted for Obama in 2008 by a 49.7% 49.4% margin and voted for Romney in 2012 by a whopping full 1% margin, so LB's vote may matter. In 2008 that razor thin margin of victory translated to a NC electoral vote of Obama 15 McCain 0. If I ever move to Laramie, I'll be much more tempted to vote principledly instead of strategically.

1:48 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I don't think NC will make the difference this election, THT. I think HC is gonna win regardless. That said, I think the country "loses" either way.

1:58 PM
Blogger michael said...

I'm with LB and bubbs!

The only thing worse than Hillary Clinton winning is a republican party in power shaped in the image of Trump.

It's shame too. I don't know if the Dems have ever trotted out a weaker candidate than Hillary. Why didn't the repubs try a misogynist/ableist/policy-lightweight/racist/amoral/business-bankrupting/evangelicalism-appropriating reality-tv-star-joke-of-a-candidate back in 2012 when they were gonna lose anyway?

Unlike bubbs, I have a higher threshold of pain when it comes to voting strategically, but Trump is about 2 miles past that line for me.

Saw this via Twitter:

https://www.buzzfeed.com/mckaycoppins/paul-ryan-delivers-earnest-unity-sermon-to-fractured-convent?utm_term=.noK7GNBB2#.di9qM3QQd

During a breakfast for Texas delegates Tuesday morning, Ryan tried out a college football metaphor in his efforts to convert the state’s Ted Cruz backers into enthusiastic supporters of the GOP ticket.

Pointing to the in-state rivalries between teams like the Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, and TCU Horned Frogs, Ryan said, “You guys are at each other’s throats … [But] when one team advances to a big bowl game or a national championship, don’t you root for the Aggies? … Don’t you root for the Longhorns?”

The ballroom full of Texans erupted in laughter, boos, and shouts of, “No!”

Ryan chuckled, taken aback, and said, “Start thinking that way, OK?”

And then, “Holy moly, this explains everything right now.”

I consider this a bit alarmist, but one thing I do agree with:

"This is what happens when you let a flamboyant reality star this close to the highest office in the land: You get someone who doesn’t understand the machinery of state, and plays with literal nuclear fire as a result."

I mean, it's not like I'm qualified to do the job, but at least I KNOW THAT I DON'T KNOW how to run a country. My question, though, is would Trump really act on his own? Or would he end up doing whatever his advisers tell him? Would he end up just being a loose cannon in speech only? I certainly hope so. That's kinda what I'm banking on, but maybe I'm short changing his narcissism.

It would be interesting to see how fast "common sense" breaks down as a political strategy. I think most of his supporters would agree that "if they don't pay we shouldn't keep our side of the deal either." But politics is about thinking 10 moves ahead, not 1.

Granted, to watch Season 2, you would need to watch Season 1, and that's a dicey proposition given how bleak (but good) it was to watch at times.

Leftover boobs, huh? Hey, that pretty well describes the bunch of idiots who post in these parts!

My marriage is currently on the rocks because my wife refuses to watch Stranger Things. She says it is too scary looking. She won't even watch a second of it! Not sure we're gonna make it through this one.

MJT, my advice to you, my friend, would be to send her to your neighbor's kitchen for a chat during dinner. While she's getting straightened out, watch yourself another episode of Stranger Things.

2.0 and I made a road trip to the beach on Saturday to play two rounds of miniature golf here, sandwiched around a shrimp burger at this place. Stopped by the Regional History Museum in New Bern (some very nice original 16th-18th century maps) before heading to the renowned Skylight Inn in Ayden for some tasty barbecue. It was good, but it didn't bump anyone out of my top 5 NC BBQ locations.

p.s. we actually never saw the beach. The public access parking lot was a looooooong way from the public access, and it was too blame hot, so we didn't bother.

There's a reason I'm counting down to the 2017 season. It's called double reverse psychology... or is it triple? All I know is, our defense mightbe better (especially if CL can play the entire year), but our offense will still flounder.

is this a sign of the end of time? or just a sign that the ratings services are clueless?

Okeke joins five-star center Austin Wiley, a center from Spain Park ranked No. 17 nationally and four-star point guard Davion Mitchell in the class and Auburn's class is now ranked No. 1 overall in the 247Sports composite.

At this point, I'd settle for unsustained success.

So Devin Hester got released today.

I was reminded of the great slam against Harrison: "I bet you feel like Devin Hester behind that keyboard." I did some digging to find the original post... but it appears to have been wiped from the internet.

It should be here:

https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=23235343&postID=3930353434648168022

Everyone is reacting to it (Forrest apparently said it)... but it isn't there. No "this post has been removed" or nothing. As the resident 1.0 historian, I find this all very strange. Someone tell me what's happening.

BRENHAM, Texas, July 20, 2016 – Blue Bell Creameries is excited to announce it will be expanding its distribution area in North Carolina and South Carolina in September. Beginning on Sept. 12, products will be available in all of South Carolina and the central part of North Carolina. The following week Blue Bell will return to Raleigh and the surrounding areas!!!!!

Theory: Forest typed the last sentence of his comment using non-permanent text.

Theory: JayGT has administrative post editing capability and when he said he was going to put the last sentence of Forrest's post on the front page he accidentally used cut + paste instead of copy + paste.

I'm not a fan of either theory, so I'm open to other ideas.

7:28 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I don't know. I don't find either theory convincing, but I can't come up with one that is.

All the internet caches don't have old versions of that page logged, so I can't tell when the change occurred.

I think there must have been some sort of wait, though, because if you look at the next thread, I comment on how Harrison got served (and distinctly remembered reading the Hester behind the keyboard part), yet I wasn't there when it was happening live (which Jay G apparently was). This would make the "Jay G cutting and pasting the source code" scenario unlikely.

Someone go to HABOTN and ask Jay G what he did to it.

Frankly, I don't care one way or the other. Perform on the field and stay out of trouble, and you can come across any way you want.

Been reading Jesus Outside the Lines by Scott Sauls (paper book). It's pretty solid. Didn't intend to pick it up in conjunction with the political season, but it matches well in that it contrasts the general tone of things.

One of the reasons I do The Twitter Machine rather than FB is because there tends to be less crazy and venom there. Mercy, that has not been the case lately. Every other thought boils down to, "If you don't see things the way I do, you're crazy and stupid! How are you still breathing you knuckle dragger!?!"

Maybe I should stop following MJT....

9:27 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I use Twitter less as a social media outlet and more of a filter for news/stories I want to see.

Sure, I follow people that occasionally tweet random gibberish or political bias, but my favorite thing about twitter has always been the ability to streamline information to myself.

10:17 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

That's how I use it too, E-Bro. For the most part. But I don't just follow major outlets; I also follow blogs/associations (idea generators). As well, I follow both people I tend to agree with about certain things and those that I tend to disagree with (perspective etc etc). Throw in the fact that I follow some folks for, let's say, technology or literature etc. Well, they've all decided to make their off topic opinions known.

It's chippy out there, and it's getting a little old. But, hey, that's my problem. I can always not pay attention to it.

10:30 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Harrison and I don't use FB, but we aren't averse to profiting on social media. We've got a startup company DEB (stands for Dry Erase Bored). We are currently seeking venture capital to get it up and running. If you don't like what someone posts, you can erase it from their board. For example, this thread would probably now have about 15 posts instead of 1564.

bubbs, I'm afraid Bonnaroo is the only (big) Music Festival waters that I've dipped my toes in thus far.

Not that I wouldn't like to head to Lolla or Coachella or something of that ilk. Maybe one day.

Given how copy and paste music festivals are said to be these days, I'd like to to go to others and have a comparison for myself. I still go to the Roo every year and love it. But regular festival goers say they're all the same these days (certainly similar lineups) and there were about 30,000 less people in Manchester this year (not that I minded all the extra space).
