Auburn speaks, 9/2
Hey everyone. We've got some newsy new for you.
- Chris Todd will start the Southern Miss game. Coach Tommy Tuberville said this had nothing to do with QB Kodi Burns' leg injury.
``Kodi is still a little questionable." - Tuberville said the plan all along was to give Kodi Burns the first start and let Todd start the second game. This was the first we heard about such an arrangement.
- Burns practiced this morning. He participated in the usual slew of drills, so I'm 99% sure he'll be ready to roll against Southern Miss.
- Tuberville said TB/KR Tristan Davis ``will play this week."
- Auburn's defense is injury-free.
- Asked about the offensive problems against Monroe, Tuberville quipped:
``I called all the running plays; (Tony Franklin) called all the passing plays." - Tuberville had this to say about WR Robert Dunn, who was demoted to the fourth-team offense last week:
``You've got to get him on the right path and not in that self-destruction mode. That's the way some guys are. You've got to be a player every day -- not just on Saturdays." - DT Mike Blanc, who is Haitian, has taught teammate S Mike McNeil how to speak creole. That's what most of the peeps speak on Haiti. You know why this is funny to me? McNeil and Blanc seem like an odd collaboration. Blanc is this massive, happy-go-lucky kid from south Florida. McNeil is this slender, button-down, quiet, reserved kid from Mobile.
- Todd Dewey, the fine photojournalist from ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, asked a question of Tuberville today. It began as a simple query about QB Neil Caudle. It ended like this: "How confident are you in his positiveness?" I don't know what that means, either.

Jay,
I knew all along Kodi would play, it was just a scratch..... put some Metholate on it Gauze and Duct Tape, and he will be fine.....
as the great Chris Rock would say, "pour some Robitussin on it. more 'tussin, more 'tussin".
the kid's a gamer. no problem.
"How confident are you in his positiveness?"
Reminds me of the "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" - the horribleness and awfulness of it all...
On another note, and no offense to Tristan Davis who is dynamic, but is he the "Glass Joe" of the Auburn team?
Fun stuff, JGT.
wait, it just dawned on me.............A DEFINITE QB STARTER ON TUESDAY?????? wow. i just may fall out of my chair.
Sure it was planned. Yeah, they totally had that worked out and didn't want to tip the hand?
C'mon everybody! More coachspeak from the master of it.
It's fine though. Why not? Someone needs to step up and be the starter, but they'll need more than one series to prove it.
I guess they are going to back to the chick fil-a bowl strategy with Chris Todd starring as Brandon Cox.
Ron,
I'll take a BCox performance after last week.
25comp-39att-211 yds
Though I can do without the INT.
Jazzy Jay G...
Any chance the coaches will release grades this year like they did last year? Who's your inside man?
I know I'm not the only one who thought Todd looked HORRIBLE! What is so bad about having Kodi be our full time QB? He's may not be pretty out there, but he's won ballgames for us!
i like that buck, it's...
D.J. Jazzy Jay G. and the Fresh Hotties.
sorry, it's been a long dreary day listening to all the big orange fans whine. :)
Muschamp was my inside guy last year.
I'll ask around and see what I can find ...
Glad to see Kodi is on the mend. I was very concerned with the QB play while listening to the game. After watching the CSS replay, I was more pleased with Kodi than CT. If slaughter doesn't drop a sure TD and Rod Smith wore a half-size smaller shoe, he's 6 for 9 with 2 TDs before getting hurt. Add in his run threat and he was clearly better than CT this week.
But I think (hope?) both are much better than they showed against ULM.
Kodi's arm seems much stonger to me.
If Lester doesn't drop the swing pass on the opening drive then Burns is 7 for 9 along with the two TD's mentioned before.
Todd didn't seem to have much zip on the ball at all. I wonder if some players resent him because he's been kind of a teachers pet since he transfered in?
Has there been any talk about the RB/WR's hands and lack of separation in the passing game at all? This is a trend that's been going on for a couple of years now.
I don't know about Todd being a teacher's pet.
Well by "teachers pet" that Franklin has known him for a long time and was the reason he came to Auburn.
Why is everyone so joyful that Kodi will play? You knew he would. You can't believe ANYTHING Tubs says during the season. Can't everybody see that he can't remember what he said last week and he doesn't give a rat's ass what he said last week? All he cares about is keeping his fat paycheck and rubbing your noses in it. Typical little man makes it big syndrome.
This was our arrangement all along? BS!
It's funny how writers pick out things that Tubs says and they print it, as it was funny. And I'm not referring to the G but others. Give G props for busting Tubs chops ever so subtly. Gracefully if you can.
Somebody get in that catfish hunter's head and get the playmakers on the field and get the ball in their hands. This wishy washy "we're trying to find the right formula" mess is tiresome. How come nodoby else keeps the ballers on the bench? Damnit, Jim!
I'm telling you all, Tommy met his BS'ing match by "hiring" Tony Franklin. That's a train wreck waiting to happen. Mark my words- Sept 2, 2008- trouble looms on The Plain. Thy name is Franklin.
Yes, I put a word in quotation above. Why? Because Franklin wasn't Tubs's first choice. It was Dye's and the BOT's.
Marinate on that, boys.
I'm marinatin'.
...
...
Now I'm hungry.
You might want to take it easy there, amigo. Your head might pop off and it's only tuesday. We got to at least give this system and Franklin to the LSU game before burning him at the stake.
By the way Pat Dye has always said he doesn't think the spread will work in the SEC so I don't think Dye picked him.
Dye's said on air, Finebaum mind you, that Auburn needed to move to the spread. Them there's the facts.
More facts to ponder:

from ESPN's report on the Auburn vs. ULM game played on September 4, 2004.....
"The Tigers' West Coast offense sputtered at times but still fared better than in last year's opening shutout defeat to Southern California that set the stage for a disappointing season"
"It wasn't quite the offensive showcase Auburn fans were hoping for against the overmatched Sun Belt Conference team, but the Tigers saved much of their playbook for Southeastern Conference play."
"We were pretty vanilla today offensively," coach Tommy Tuberville said. "That was just a small glimpse of this offense."
It was a bigger glimpse of Williams, who played into the fourth quarter but never broke a long gain."
"He carried 23 times and caught a 9-yard touchdown pass but was mostly contained by a swarming Louisiana-Monroe defense geared toward stopping the run."
"We didn't hit on all cylinders on the offense at all times, but it was a steady game," Tuberville said. "We got the job done."
AU won the game 31-0 then went on to an undefeated season. Let's at least see all the cards before we fold the hand.
Hah! Glad you pulled that out. After that game I gathered that we were looking at a 7-4 year. The MSU game didn't do much more to convince me although it was fun to watch Kevin Hobbs be the fastest DB I've ever seen chase done a sprint of a tailback.
Anybody else remember that or am I talking German. It's not germane to the situation. And I know the German got nuttin' to do wid it.
I f'd that all up with typos. Hate it when I do that. Just trying to bring back some old memories of players gone and a Bandit named Bo.
On Sportscall today Bill Cameron seemed to think that Kodi was unlikely to play Saturday.I think his words were "doubtful" at best. Have things changed Jay or does Bill just have a different opinion? Not trying to hijack your blog but I know Bill is usually pretty reliable and I think I've heard you on his show before.
I still see 186 passing yard in that '04 first game. I don't know why people always look to '04 for hints to '08. That kind of baffles me.
I don't think I've ever been on Bill Cameron's show.
I'm almost 100% sure Kodi is fine and will be available Saturday
People look at 04 because it's the benchmark as the best Auburn season in recent years to compare teams against.
Exactly...and there are a lot of early similarities to the 04 & 08seasons. Not so much the teams, but the situations with new coordinators, new offense, high expectations, and lofty goals.
