Double-secret bonus video, 10/17

OK. This (brief) video has nothing to do with Auburn on the SEC or any teams you care about.

However, I think it's extremely funny. That and a maximum time investment of 45 seconds should be enough to make you click it.

Enjoy.

I heard from some friends conveniently weaved into the "inner circle" that Ensminger said he is going to play hardball against Pat White. I also heard that Knox was a candidate for the soon to be vacant HC UNC job. And, finally, Hugh Nall was a candidate for the soon to be vacant HC job at Miss St.

Don't hate.

W was just OK.

Not funny enough to be funny.

Not serious enough to be serious.

Just kinda floating on a sea of ideas and very few work out.

I thought Josh Brolin did a nice job as W, though. Real nice job.

Just found this posted on an Au Alum facebook page, all be it 5 years old to the day, it certainly is fitting for our current state.
WAR EAGLE!

----------
Below is something I found from another group. Please take a moment to read this, it's something that needs to be addressed again.

----------------------------------
Thursday, October 17, 2003

A special message to my fellow Auburn fans:

Could I have your attention please? Thank you. Now, will the real Auburn fans please stand up? Good. There are a lot of you, but you haven't made your presence felt lately.

The folks who claim they are Auburn fans aren't the same Auburn family I used to know. The Auburn fans of old were patient and loyal to the core.

They loved their school and they wore Orange and Blue no matter what happened on the field. Sure, they loved it when their team won, but they also knew it wasn't possible to win them all.

They live and die with their team. If the Tigers were playing well, or if they weren't, the fans were always there, cheering. You never heard those folks boo the players, because they loved them win or lose. I've even talked to old timers who told me about cheering for first downs because touchdowns were so rare.

Once, when some fans became impatient and booed the team, they were scolded by the coach who reminded them that "Auburn fans don't do that". So much for the boos.

There was a time when although Auburn fans hated losing they didn't threaten to fire the coach if things didn't go well. Auburn folks hung in there during the good times and the bad. The radio talk shows and internet chat rooms weren't around in those days, but I think if they had been available, Auburn folks wouldn't have used them as a forum to blast their team and coaches.

Dirty laundry wasn't hung out for the world to see. If the family had a quarrel, they weren't so eager to let the neighbors here about it. Those people were a lot more tolerant. They understood that young men, not robots, play football. They're not perfect and they make mistakes. These guys are playing a game they love at a school they love. They work very hard to prepare and give it their best shot. But so do the guys on the other team and sometimes that other team wins. The Auburn players and coaches don't like it any more than we fans, but losing was not always a hanging offense.

Now I don't claim to be a fortuneteller. I have no idea how many more games this football team will win or lose. But no matter what happens for the remainder of the season, let us remember that screaming for a coach's scalp or booing the quarterback doesn't help the situation. It only makes things worse.

When the football season is over, Auburn will still be Auburn. The school we love and support has always been special in the hearts and souls of her people. I'm just thankful to be a member of her family. I refuse to let the emotions of some change the way I feel about her.

See you here next week,

Kindest regards and War Eagle,

Jim Fyffe

That's a cute story aubiz. Seems like something I'd read after watching this weeks episode of Leave it to Beaver.

Seriously, times change. The days of loyalty and undying support are out the window. Coaches make too much money for that. I have never booed a player in my life but I have booed coaches. This is big business now.

I love Auburn and I love Auburn football. I have no problem with the way things are progressing.

5:21 PM

I take that back. I DO have a problem with how things are progressing, but it's beyond the point of no return

It's not like the porn indistry had to choose that riff, or the incredibly cheesy music. I think they just wanted to. I think cocaine, reefer and qualudes, mixed, made it sound cool. And the chicks needed it to sound cool since they couldn't feel anything anyway. Might as well have music that sucked but sounded cool when you were high.

That's all I got.

Jim Fyffe got it right. May the Lord rest his soul.

Yea, I was a big Fyffe fan.

I talked with him at least once per week back in those days. I've had one conversation with Rod Bramblett -- the day he was announced as Fyffe's successor.

5:30 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I like Rod Bramblet as a person. He was always nice when he would set up to do the locker room interview with the HC, but man, his calling of a game is not even close to the same as Fyffe.

After Fyffe passed away, the Auburn cheerleaders instructed the student section to yell, "Touchdooooooowwwwwn Auuubbuurnnn!" like Fyffe after every auburn TD in honor of him. Not only was this a horrible idea (how could you possibly synchronize people holding the syllables for the same amount of time, and how can you synchronize the beginning of such a cheer, when people realize a play is a touchdown at different points in time?), but it was also largely untested. We didn't score a touchdown the first two games that year. Then people sort of forgot about it.

I believe in Auburn!

I sat here and read that aubiz and was ready to type yeah you people start being real fans!!!

and then:

I step back and took a look at myself aubiz and I thought "gotta listen when reason is talking." I myself have been critical and somewhat of an example to what he was talking about in that post. I havent been able to go to a game this year and I'd like to think I wouldnt be one of those booing fans but the truth is I sat in my lounger and booed when i saw todd trot back onto the field saturday(cant go to the game but I can get pay per view) so after reading that for what it's worth I was wrong. alot of people invest alot more than just a love and passion for AU they also invest cash and some invested 4 years or whatever. So I would respect to hear those boosters, alumni, or whatever it is that brings you into the AU families thoughts. I dont donate to the university, i've only been to a coupla games but the fans make me feel like part of the family..you guys and girls make me feel like there is an AU family and regardless of my status as a fan it doesnt matter. I love AU. I have been a fan for a long time but all i do is buy t-shirts, go to the occasional game, and get a pay per view. So I apologize for my occasional lack AU class. Thanks for the cool post AUbiz.consider me enlightned WAR EAGLE HOTTIES

Aubiz,

The date of Thursday, October 17, 2003 can't be correct.

Jim Fyffe died before the 2003 season started.

Jim Fyffe was great, and I miss him every time I listen to Bramblett call a game. Bramblett comes across as a crybaby on the air.

You're correct that date can't be right. didn't notice that. I just copied it from the au alum page on facebook. Looks like this is a Jim Fyffe statement that has made its rounds during times like these. Just found it posted on The Plainsman's web site, from Sept. of last year, with the same wrong date.

Scott - I lived in Prattville in 1995 and back then it was a lot like Brewton only a lot more exciting. Scary, huh? My sister lives there now and it sounds like it's grown bunches.
