OK, so maybe he did move ...
TUESDAY MID-DAY
Post No. 1,070
Hey everyone. That chatter about TB David Oku is at least somewhat accurate. The Lincoln Journal-Star is reporting that the coveted prospect has relocated to Lincoln, Neb., and enrolled at Lincoln East High.
Also, Nebraska's top-rated signee is a Texas tailback. Oku seemed pretty emphatic in that story that a career at Nebraska is hardly imminent.
My thought: Where are Oku's parents?

Hey everyone. That chatter about TB David Oku is at least somewhat accurate. The Lincoln Journal-Star is reporting that the coveted prospect has relocated to Lincoln, Neb., and enrolled at Lincoln East High.
“It had nothing to do with an emotional thing with a girlfriend,” Oku said of moving to Lincoln. “That had nothing to do with it. I’ve heard the craziest things, that she’s pregnant and all this. No, no. I came here because of school.”So he moves six weeks into the final semester of his high-school career? Really?
Also, Nebraska's top-rated signee is a Texas tailback. Oku seemed pretty emphatic in that story that a career at Nebraska is hardly imminent.
My thought: Where are Oku's parents?

What an intresting move so late in the school year.
Look at our new Quick Draw McGraw ...
Just a little luck with the timing there. ;)
non substance
Jay G, I agree...the lack of parental involvement is puzzling.
i often wanted to move out of my parent's house while i was in high school. the best i managed to do was spend the night at a friends house. dang, if only i'd pulled the trigger...
... you might have been wildly succcessful like David Oku.
"I'm moving to Nebraska," Oku said, according to AuburnSports.com. "Go ahead can write a story about it. My parents are the ones that let me do this and they're behind me 100 percent."
http://auburn.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=916073
I said it in the other thread, if Oku comes to Auburn, he'll last a year before he gets homesick or goes crazy or something.
I can see me telling my parents at age 17 that I was going to move and go to HS for my final 3 months somewhere out of state.
I don't buy it.
behind him as in following in the next car?
This comment has been removed by the author.
Maybe he heard the prom at Lincoln East High is incredibly awesome.
Maybe he wanted to make sure he didn't miss out on the Corn Festival.
I've shacked up before...
But I have never.... NEVER.....moved just for a girl.
Oku needs to make up his mind. Can't decide what high school he wants to go to. Can't decide what college he wants to go to. Let's hope he will get his mind set on Auburn.
The prom! Hee hee.
I would assume if grades/gradution were an issue he wouldn't have been able to play so that can't be it.
So his parents did not move with him?
Bizarre...
I would assume that after living in Nebraska it would make Auburn look like Vegas...
So there may be a benefit as far as AU is concerned.
Ooookkkaayyy.........Oku weird. I let my son move in the room over the garage his senior year. I understand the need to make a break but this seems more serious than just a senior needing to leave the confines of home.....weird
senioritis is a crazy thing but ???
Once again, FSJ and Christeenah show up at the same time...
FSJ - did you look at the Apple thing I posted in the last thread?
eh michael....I was here first btw...
I haven't yet...I'll take a look
FSJ - having been to Lincoln, and despite my love of the Loveliest Village... Vegas would not have come to mind.
I hope Auburn signs him just for the fact that he moved so he could hook-up.
FSJ- Then let's hope he's the Vegas type.
What Oku doesn't understand is that once he gets married, he will have the rest of his like to shack up. Why start so early? Bros before...well, you know.
lol michael....
Maybe he has ADD, and it's affecting his decision making...
what is affecting his decision making was covered in the previous thread. though, i believe michael is still waiting on jet to expand on the topic.
After careful consideration, I would much rather he expound, gatiger.
If he's such a stud, wouldn't he have been able to find someone in his own town instead of moving to another state?
And I can't believe I am actually commenting on the love life of a High School senior......moving on now.
I've made some bad decisions because of "that" but thankfully none of them ended up with me in Nebraska...
I can't talk. I once traveled to Nebraska to attend Puppet School, all in the name of high school love. Those are six years I will never get back.
& now we know the cause of your puppet hatred.
lol, Michael
You also have to remember this is the kid that was worn out on the recruiting process. He just wanted people to stop calling.....me thinks he likes the drama. He may go on to be a huge success but it won't be at Auburn. I think it is a good miss. I also think with the pick up of Dontae it is not as high on our staff's things to do list.
Blogspot deleted the commas on my profile...I look stupid now.
Hand puppets?
Well to give you an idea of what people in Oklahoma think about Alabama....every one of my Oklahoma friends made fun of me when I told them I was moving to Alabama in the 9th grade and told me I would become a hick.
I bet he knocked up that girl he met at the U of Nebraska..
tigercowboy, i agree.
I spent time in the state of OKie Dokie....hello pot meet kettle.
well kristina, it looks like you have the last laugh on them. right? or are you in fact a hick?
cause if you are a hick, your face sure doesn't show it.
cowboy, I know. I kept thinking...you guys don't think you're hicks? Plus Alabama is prettier than Oklahoma.
I was about to add that. If you like brown weeds, rocks and constant wind....you have found paradise.
gatiger - The puppet issues go even deeper than that experience. The previously mentioned hand injuries from biting them, of course, and how a puppet single-handedly derailed my sheep business in Idaho.
cowboy, thats so true.
I met a person from Chicago in high school who was surprised that we didn't travel primarily on dirt roads in the south. This is not a joke, this actually happened.
kristina - what part of ok? i've only been to one town there & i was far from impressed. it was a dump.
When someone asked how Marks and Powers would run at the combine, on Saturday I said:
"Powers will run a 4.53 and Marks will run a 5.01. Mark it, dude."
Well, Marks ran a 5.01 on the dot. I should be a professional analyst! If Powers runs a 4.53, then I am driving up to Tennessee and buying a lottery ticket.
Michael, nice, Combine Guru.
Michael,
I to have had this dirt road sterotype placed on me as well. I struggled with my paved road insecurity for years until happened on Kansas. If you want dirt roads go to freakin Kansas. That is the least paved place I have ever been. Now I can face my friends with confidence again
If powers runs a 4.53 he won't get drafted
I have been out of the loop for a bit but does anyone know why Andre Smith packed his toys and went home from the combine. I was told he has slipped because of this in the draft. Any truth?
Maybe unlike Oku he has trouble being away from home.(Sugar Bowl and now this)
there are lots of unpaved roads in Wyoming.
Well, there aren't a lot of roads in Wyoming, period. But of the few, a bunch are unpaved.
At my age, expanding is out of the question.
Expounding, well, I don't want to do that because it depresses me.
Malcolm Jenkins, one of the top cornerbacks, just ran a 4.55. I think Powers would still get drafted with a 4.53. No matter what he does, it will be second day, though.
Is Auburn having a pro day for NFL scouts?
i have moved for a girl.......however, she was my fiance.
this is quite puzzling. sounds like the kid needs some good mentors/friends around him. hope he finds it soon.
Is it true when they announced Powers name at the combine, the NFL scouts collectively said "who?"
It's annoying how the rest of the country thinks we are a bunch of rednecks, but I know I do the same kind of summations for other parts of the country. I think California is a bunch of hippy communists, but 45% of em voted George Bush into a second term. That's quite a lot of non-hippies.
I love unpaved roads. When we're on vacation we'll head into the hinterlands on any rutted path. So much more to see that way.
We need to pave more roads. Paved roads means progress.
It also puts money in the hands of my major contributors.
All the Hippie Communist are in Boulder, CO
THT, most definitely.
We need smaller government, except when big government suits the needs of my constituents and contributors.
David Oku needs to be in the care of the government, unless he decides to come to Auburn ... where the "private markets" are the better place to handle the people's needs.
PorkChop- Boulder doesn't have them all. There are a lot of weirdos in Chapel Hill. They are amusing.
This comment has been removed by the author.
TarHeel, define "weirdo."
This comment has been removed by the author.
Pork Chop, I have a childhood friend who lives in Boulder. I am pretty sure he has survived for the last 10 years or so on nothing but weed, bootleg Widespread Panic CDs, and hatred for the government.
anyone who doesn't think like I do ;-)
Weirdo (weer'-do) (n): A characterization of person with jarring pecularities, such as pulls for Auburn and UAT, wants to delete the Second Amendment, thinks Big Government is the answer to everything, and voted for Kuchinich (twice).
http://blog.al.com/auburnbeat/football/
Let's see what Luper can do with this guy.
THT....you asked about Bank strengths earlier. Go to www.bankrate.com. Look for "star ratings". Like recruits, Banks are rated from 1 to 5 stars. The ratings are discreetly listed on that site around once a week.
Kinda like some recent AU recruits....all of the Banks I use for bidness have sunk to 1-3 stars.
Michael...Puppets are the root of all evil.
Will- I think I knew that guy and all his friends.
Of course the irony is that I am listening to Widespread Panic right now.
Widespread Panic is listening to me right now.
gatiger, I was outside of OKC. I must say I was mortified when I moved to Montgomery and they didn't have a "big" mall. Being a 9th grade girl and all that was of utmost importance...
I was born in California so I know all about those people too. ;-)
I nearly moved to Korea for a girl, so I really can't comment.
But Pork Chop are you smoking pot and hating the gov't? Can you complete the trifecta on this Tues afternoon?
Thanks, Hoopie.
Bank of America up 16% since I posed my question. Rats.
I consistently choose to follow my instincts when they are wrong. I never have any money to follow my instincts when they are right.
Signed,
Stocksinker
Jet....I apologize for abruptly causing the medical emergency yesterday. I'll try to give tremor warnings next time.
Looks like the Gump EMT's successfully raised the Tool of the Man.
Note: The 10' pole rule applies to that last statement.
Yeah THT, but if you're like me, you have a huge hill to climb with BAC, and many others....
Will, I lost my wallet when I fell down the hill. I'll be climbing with empty pockets.
I can hate anything, but sadly they won't let me smoke pot at work.
ANy news on when Auburn will have Junior Day?
I actually moved to Boulder for a girl. Now i'm back in the real world, thank God.
THT I wish someone would have stolen my wallet before I encountered the hill. At least if my money were stolen, then someone would have benefitted from my loss(es). I'm glad you posted the thing about BAC being up b/c I have honestly gotten to the point where I don't even check the markets regularly anymore. It's just so dang depressing.
Oh, and my TV quit working last night as well.
Kristina, I was referring earlier to Lawton, OK. Dump to the nth degree.
THT - I used to work for a couple of banks back in my Gump days and still have quite a few shares of their stock. One in particular is currently not worth the price of a printed stock certificate and will likely be another failure any day now. The other one, well...I've theoretically lost a good bit of $ on those two stock but most of those shares are what was actually given by the companies so I'm not really out of pocket. As to your instincts, you need to go "Costanza" and do the opposite of anything you'd normally do.
Jet, et al - on the government issue, I'm increasingly finding I have Libertarianish leanings. Except for the wacky stuff that is. I want anything from my gov't but a strong military (peace through superior firepower) and a good system of roads to get me anywhere I want to go. Outside of that, I shouldn't notice my government.
I don't follow the markets. Just had a hunch about BAC today based on what someone said at our staff mtg last night. A tv that's not working is better than a pile of tv rubble. And no, Luv, I still don't want to talk about it.
I want good roads for when I'm in a hurry, dirt roads for when I'm not, and a "what's happening 14 time zones away between the burpies and hiccoughites is none of our business policy".
Did anyone notice that once again Michael has brought up his highly secretive sheep farm in Idaho.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Here's my secret shame: I looked at Auburn because of a girl, was talked into taking the scholarship by a girl, came to Auburn still dating the girl, a year later broke up with the girl, who then transferred to Ole Miss. As it turns out, best decision I ever made.
Just don't ever ask me about my business, mdaniel.
what business is that michael?
Watch it GaTiger, it is a sensitive and highly secretive issue. Apparently at one time Michael made BIG money trading in sheep services.
I was going to ask that, gatiger!
i know, i was pushing buttons hoping that michael would choose this time to not only expand but also to expound on the topic of his sheep love. or whatever it was he did.
You guys are supposed to be quiet about Mchiela's business and lull him into a false sense of security. Then he will tell us everything.
Kristina,
He's been Tight lipped about this for some time.
he did briefly touch the topic earlier today. so at this point, i know he loves sheep but hates puppets. he's like a riddle wrapped up in a conundrum that boy.
Well I"m sure it's a very sensitive subject as sheep farming usually is. Best to let him tell us when he's ready...
Mrs THT went to Auburn for 2 reasons, even though she had never heard of the place:
1. Her father told her she'd have to room with her sister (a yr older) at UNC
2. A guy she liked from high school went to UA-T (LOSER); Auburn was nearest pharmacy school, so she was told.
Kind of funny how things work out. She's not a pharmacist, and she didn't marry a LOSER ;-)
I almost went to UAT because of a girl I was dating. She turned out to be insane so I went to AU. Never make a life decision based on someone your dating, especially if you are young. It will usually end in trajedy
I happily converted a lifelong Auburn fan to the dark side during the 1993 winter storm....
The poor girl's family was highly disturbed at this turn of events.
FSJ- You will have to answer to the Lord for that.
peace out hotties. it's a nice afternoon here so i'm gonna meet the missus and the tigercub at a local greenway trail for an afternoon run.
Disturbed them that she became a bama fan or disturbed then that she was with you?
Look, we have been through this before. I can't really talk about it. The business is not exactly on the up and up. All I can say is that it involves a dog trained by Princess Diana's former butler, and the transportation of some exotic dandelions across state lines. I can't say anymore.
My girlfriend was a year younger and followed me to Auburn. We are married and gots kids now.
So you work it, Oku!
Sing along with David Oku ...
There is no place like Nebraska,
Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they're all true blue.
We'll all stick together,
In all kinds of weather,
For dear old Nebraska U.
Ok..Zoo Keeper caused me to think so here's a question I'll pose to all Hotties:
Have you ever dated anyone from "the other side" in the rivalry?
Not only no ...
Yes, I have dated a bammer and that's really all I want to say at this time. It's a time in my life I am not proud of.
Faker, I did have a short thing with a very beautiful girl who did attend the UAT. It wasn't a bad experience. As a matter of fact, our first "date" was the 2003 Iron Bowl.
I dated and was dumped by a UT fan in high school. No bammers, though.
Must ... resist ... inappropriate ... response.
Yeah, OK. Oh, no
"Had a short thing?"
i did date a chearleader of the biggest rival of my high school but I learned from that and did not try that in college. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law both went to the dark side no fun at christmas no fun
hmmm, bad choice of words on my part.
Who are you posing this question to Jet?
LOL...
I'd join a monastery before I'd date someone who didn't hate UA-T, much less liked it or attended it.
Then again, I was too shy too date anyway so it was irrelevant.
Well for the record I did marry an AU woman who comes from an AU family, and as mine are converted (except for my sister who attends the big ugly orange in Knoxville) family functions tend to go well.
we don't have family functions, just dysfunctions
As my siblings and each of their spouses have Auburn University at the top of their degrees, as did our father, and as four of my parents' eight grandchildren have Auburn degrees, two of them currently attend Auburn, one will attend next fall, and my daughter will surely do the game, I can safely say that my family gatherings are a "UAT-Free Zone."
My parents' lone grandchild that has a degree from someone other than Auburn went to Samford, but wishes he went to Auburn (as does his father, my older brother, who spent a boatload to send him there).
My family isn't from here so that's not a problem as far as family functions go. As long as I didn't marry a Yankees fan my dad was fine with it. My husband's family are all Auburn people except his aunt who remarried a die hard bammer and now they don't come to anything.
I'm ashamed to say this...but....
My sister is an Auburn fan.
Only one in the family.
I was raised by wolves. My family has no collegiate allegiance, and family gatherings are awesome (as long as the carcass is big enough for everyone).
So is "she must have gotten all the brains in the family" too easy?
I'm really showing my poor judgment today. I did date a Alabama fan for a while (not at all die hard, although her father definitely was, since breaking up with her she has been converted), far worse was dating a Florida fan. I really don't like Florida fans.
"she must have gotten all the brains" means something completely different in my family. That means that she literally hogged all the elk brains. It's a bit of a no-no. In my family, we share.
Michael - your weird, but not a weirdo. My new hero. I hope you don't mind if I try to emulate you (it doesn't involve sheep)
My whole family are Louisville people. My wife's family are all Louisville people.
I'm a Kentucky graduate.
That's my version of conscientious objection.
I'd never date a Louisville graduate. Or a Duke graduate.
I can say that because I've been with Wifey since we were teenagers. I never had to dump a hot check because of the school on her degree, but I would have. I'm sure I would have identified (theoretical girl's) shady background before it ever became serious.
duke, ewwwwwwwww
I must admit that out of the girls I have dated...
Ole Miss gals were the craziest....
and not in a good way.
Auburn has added a "value menu" at BEMC.
Hot dogs, popcorn and "fountain drinks" (not sure on size) now are $2 each.
traffic around BEMC is going to be a huge problem now.
I heard that on the radio Jay G. They are having economic stimulus package night. Last year they sold T-shirts really cheap too at the last few games. Wonder if they'll do that again tomorrow.
Be sure to get there early for your white out T ...cause that's such a great idea.
Weird but not a weirdo... yeah, that's me.
My father-in-law stumbled upon my blog for the first time last week. It is linked in my facebook profile. He was like, "Uhhh, is this really michael?" So yeah, I let my weird sense of humor hang out a little more on the webs than in real life.
I don't know what to make of this move. Disrupting the last half of his senior year doesn't make sense. If it isn't a girl, I would assume he is considering signing with Nebraska.
I'z what sez its quittin time...
QUITIN' TIME!
catch you Hotties from home
I may sez it even if I can't spellz it
THT, careful heading back to Tara...
I'll be wearing white tomorrow night ... comme d'habitude.
I say it is time to say goodbye to Oku. Sure, he might be the best thing since sliced bread, but I have never been a big sliced bread fan anyways.
Which poses the age-old question, yet to be answered: What was the greatest thing before sliced bread?
I believe it was "the greatest thing since gazpacho"
I don't know. When did they slice bread? Are you going to make me watch Discovery Channel to find out?
Greatest thing since sliced mammoth?
I think I'm going to run a campfire tonight around 8:30 or 9 p.m. Come as you are.
Wifey's out of town. It'll be me, you and the Yuengling.
I like Jan's new look, Michael.
spoken language other than grunts and growls (like they still use in some western parts of the state)
The Hotties have been clamoring for a change for awhile now. The beer hat is a nice way to look fashionable while the hair grows back.
I luv the new headdress. Keeps me from humming Blinded by the Light all day.
You guys know that I broke down and finally Googled Jan Terry. Sorry, Michael. I thought that was you for the longest.
Oh, so now I can hum Blinded by the Light for the rest of the evening.
I never wore the headress so there are no bad memories.

It is me, in a way AUMom. My spirit is embodied in Jan Terri's music.
Hey Luv, if you are lurking HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
It's Luv's birthday?
Well, Happy Birthday.
I'll be there Jay GT!
Where are Oku's parents, indeed.
Happy Birthday, Luv!
"where are oku's parents?"
They may be at Luv's birthday party.
Jerraud Powers ran a 4.47 (unofficial) at the combine
Analysis
Positives: Short, but has a legitimate NFL build. ... At least adequate deep speed. ... Flashes an aggressive initial hand punch at the line of scrimmage. ... Good hip swivel to turn and run with receivers. ... Good agility and quickness out of his breaks to close on the ball. ... Peeks back at the quarterback and is willing to gamble. ... Can adjust his body in space to make the athletic interception. ... Rides receivers throughout the route and isn't intimidated by bigger receivers. ... Reliable open-field tackler who flashes some pop. ... Good agility to avoid blocks.
Negatives: Might be too short to handle working on the outside. ... Good open-field tackler who flashes some pop, but his physicality hasn't translated into forced fumbles. ... Can be too aggressive. ... Has a tendency to bite on the fake and lacks the elite burst to recover when beaten initially. ... Fought a nagging hamstring pull as a junior.

I hope we get the video, THT.
Has anyone else decided to "unjoin" the David Oku to Auburn facebook group?
Monica- you'll just love the invite I sent you; please promise not to "unfriend" me!
uh oh - you're living dangerously are you?
so ... Campfire at 8:30ish.
HOWDY
hi jhag
posting outside of class...wow!
I know I feel so innocent
campfire!!! cool! oops, that's 9:30 for me. y'all have fun. i'm typically getting into the sack around that time.
So, the JGT is bacheing it tonight.(sp). We haven't had a drunken campfire for quite some time. I'll bring the hersheys and marshmellows.
Side note:
I was the last of 5 kids, 1st sister cheerleader at AU, 2nd sister, AU. ! 1st brother AU, 2nd brother AU, myself AU.
All this to say it is a family THING.
The one thing all of you failed to mention is that UA-T has some pretty hot chicks, the only difference is their parents den is a shrine to the Bear.
You're not the only one that turns into a pumpkin around that time. 4:30 comes early.
nova - i'm usually thinking about going to bed around 8p eastern and if it's within my control m-f i'm putting that plan into action shortly after 9p. i'm with you, the clock goes off at 4:30 then it's put on the running clothes and hit the street. i've really come to dislike being a responsible adult.
Monica, in reply to your post from last night regarding Facebook. I know nothing about Facebook. How do I look at pages, do I have to set up an account etc. Sorry, I am computer challenged in most ways. It took me about a week to finally figure out how to post here. Thanks.
gatiger,
All that running will kill you. Call Michael and inquire about the sheep sharing business. Laid back and mucho denaro.
Man, the sheep are not shared. They are hoarded. They are just collateral; I thought I explained this a couple of months ago!
Don't ask me about my business!
Michael,
Glad to see you're awake.
Jay-G,
Are you on you're 8th Yueling yet?
When someone starts talking about my business on HABOTN, I can sense it.
Michael,
You're no longer in the SHEEP buidnessss!
depressed - go to facebook.com and set yourself up an account
when you get that done holla
Oh BABY Campfire time!

Hello Monica & Kristina
Hello mdaniel...how are you this evening?
Just peachy, Thank You
Mon,
You not speaking?
He'll be able to play the viola after signing up on facebook? That stinks. I didn't get any musical talent when I signed up :-(
THT, you got ripped. I received a viola. However, I want a refund from my French teacher...
