Furlough, Pt. II: Day Six (Friday)

Hey everyone. Thursday was the craziest weather day I've seen during my 10-year stay in Montgomery. We received 10+ inches of rain in less than six hours. Streets flooded. Cars floating away. Houses wet.

It sucked.

I hope you Gumpians fared reasonably well. Still can't believe how that whole thing went down. The rain wouldn't stop!

Auburn? I'll do my best to recap on Sunday and into next week. I'm on a mandated, unpaid furlough and I can't work. This blog entry was pre-loaded last weekend.

Yes, I correctly predicted flash food conditions six days in advance. Rich Thomas had better watch his back.

New Page! How's that for exciting news?

THT,
Maybe if you slept longer than 4 hours you would be more rested. :) Just a thought. Are you just sleeping less because of hockey or is this normal for you?

Rub it in cincy! I'm going to need a bush hog next time I cut the yard! I've got so much to do outside, but the weather won't accommodate my schedule.

On a sad note, Chuck Daly died this morning.

Kathy,
Aren't you up in the Huntsville area? My sister is having a yard sale in Scottsboro. I'm hoping she isn't washing away.

Did y'all have those horrible winds Easter weekend that Scottsboro had? Gravitational winds I think they called them. I've never seen anything like them before.

Blogger Kathy said...

Cincy, I'm in Madison. Rain has stopped now, but we had torrential rain this morning. I think Scottsboro probably got it too. We also had those gravitational winds. Never heard of that before. Several of those pear trees bit the dust in my neighborhood then. Our neighborhood was hit with golf size hail on Good Friday. Did a lot of damage to the vehicles in the area. Fortunately all of our cars were elsewhere that day, so we didn't have to file any claims. State Farms still has a temporary claim center set up in the Lowe's parking lot.

Cincy - hockey is definitely playing a role, otherwise I average 5-6 hours. I woke up rested 2 consecutive mornings in April 1995. It was memorable.

Well, it's graduation weekend. That means I'm not at Sutton's Drugstore on Franklin Street for a bacon cheeseburger today :-(

11:24 AM
Blogger Kathy said...

Congratulations THT! It's a very proud moment watching your children walk across that stage.

11:26 AM
Blogger cincytiger said...

Kathy,
I've never seen the effects of these winds before. In Scottsboro you would see 2 houses with every tree uprooted. I mean huge, 100 year old oak trees. Then the next 2 or 3 houses would have no damage. Then the next 2 or 3 would lose every tree. This went on for miles. It was very strange.

11:32 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

oh heavens, Kathy, I don't know if I'll live long enough to see our kids walk across the stage. I was referring to the mass of humanity in town for graduation. There's probably an hour wait at Sutton's Drugstore for a booth.

MrsTHT and I are about to leave to go see Star Trek. Live long and prosper.

Funny, THT!!!

I'm going to see Star Trek tomorrow for Mother's Day! I heard it is really good.

THT-Congrats on your kid graduating..

Glad you are enjoying your new adventure wartiger. I was mistaken. THTs kid isn't graduating. It's just the college kids there graduating, so too crowded for THT to enjoy his morning b'fast eatery.

Hasn't rain here in 4 hours. Seems to be staying to the north of us right now, so I'm going out with the family to enjoy the dry weather. Later Hotties.

Afternoon, Hotties!

We are waiting for AUSon to wake up (yes, thank you, he did ace his Calculus III exam). He just got in from the loveliest village late last night. We are planning to head to Artisphere as soon as his eyelids crack open.

Should be washing windows, or doing something productive ... and so I am ... I'm checkin' on the Hotties and watching The Players Championship.

I have noticed the announcers have a fixation on this Eldrick Woods guy. Is he supposed to be any good?

They seem to get excited when he breaks wind or respires.

THT-without a doubt..don't know when yet tho..went to Boston yesterday with my Mom and Step dad so it didn't really come up..we went to the Hard Rock Cafe and Nathaniel Hall..I think that's what it's called...it's was a bunch of shopping..
Are you a facebook Hottie THT?

Fanueil Hall, I believe, is the name there, WarTigah.

ElTurbo and I were there last summer. There were some street entertainers that put on quite a show doing flips and stuff.

It's a great city.

Another example of only in Prattvegas...

I walk into the bowling alley in Prattville to take my kids to a birthday party this afternoon. At the counter is some guy screaming and yelling that he's due a refund and dropping the old "Don't you know who I think I am?" line. Apparently, he couldn't read the big sign on the video game that said "OUT OF ORDER--NO REFUNDS!"

And who might this fine American be, you ask? Our very own attorney general. I really wish you gumpians would keep that crap on your side of the river.

Digger, Rat snakes are our friends. They eat real vermin. If you let them grow big enough, they'd probably eat bammers.

Greg sent me this. Said he got it from a poster named "AUWench" on the Bunker forum @ auburnsports.com (she's the poster who grabbed Jay G's article, posted it on the Bunker and didn't credit him)

ANYWAY...
This is how she summarized Bo Jackson's remarks to Auburn grads today:
"stepping outside of the box" when they enter the real world. Trying new things, strive to make parents proud, make the most of every opportunity. He & 2 sisters stutor and how he's overcome that and makes lots of motivational speeches yearly. Got a little choked up talking about his mom looking down over him. His teachers, prof., coaches (at AU) gave him the confidence to speak. Was terrified to answer more than 1 word questions as a student. Hated having to answer questions as an AU freshman player. HIs wife has her Phd from AU. Oldest son is working on his masters, middle son in wireless eng. at AU, youngest daughter in speech pathology at AU. Threw out a couple of funnies: He knew how everyone would miss Auburn , The Supper Club, etc. Also, how life would get tougher since you could no longer drag into class late or get a friend to take notes. Finished with a God bless, remember Auburn , War Eagle. "

NoVa -

I think I'll start raising rat snakes. I knew they are good to have around, but I didn't know they were that good!

8:06 PM
Blogger NoVaTiger said...

You gotta raise em really big though. Think anaconda plus. Hmm, maybe we could get some of those anacondas (or is it pythons) that are invading the Glades.

8:26 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

What's up? Penguins blew a 3-2 lead in the last 5 minutes. I can't figure out why they don't have someone on Ovechkin all the time. They should have a Penguin sitting beside him when he's on the bench. Dean Smith would be using the box and one on him.
