A little Tuesday stream of consciouness

Hey everyone. I have completed the pre-edited version of my Gene/Jonna Chizik opus, which you'll be reading sometime in August. It has dominated my professional life for the past few days. Thanks for sticking with the HABOTN despite a relative dearth of useful information.

In lieu of legit news, let's just roll in free-form mode.

  • Check out the pic! Everyone's favorite secretary from "The Office" and official HOTTIE Jenna Fischer participated in the All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball game last night on ESPN. I was happy.

  • We talk often here about credibility. Here's another example of why we care. The sleuths over at BleacherReport.com "reported" on Sunday that Califorina junior college DE Joel Bonomolo committed to Auburn. Since the site doesn't credit another news outlet for this information, we are supposed to believe they scooped the world. One problem: Bonomolo hasn't committed.

Will he commit? That's what our friends at AuburnSports, AuburnUndercover and ITAT believe. They think it'll happen soon.

Still, it sounds like "SECSportsHub.com", aka University of Florida junior Thomas M. Goldkamp, made a little mistake there. Crediting your sources might be a good idea in the future, kid.

  • You all saw the video I posted last week from the new basketball arena. What you don't know is how flabbergasted I am about the whole project. That building is going to be something special and, honestly, I didn't think Auburn had the guts to dedicate $90 million toward an athletic facility that doesn't involve football.

  • Jonna Chizik is a trip. She's definitely a Type A personality and someone most fans are going to enjoy as her profile rises. She said a bunch of funny stuff in my 45-minute interview with The Chiziks last month.

On her relationship with Gene: "He likes to say I hit the lottery when we met. I just let him think that. I'd hate to hurt his ego."

SEC East Breakdown

Heads Up....Fox Sports South has the Hooters Swimsuit Competition on right now.

7:09 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Eddie... nice breakdown. My only difference would be that UGA will be head and shoulders above UT. UGA has their annual OL question marks. The D will step up or the DC will lose his job. UGA will lose only 2-3 games. I even think that USC will be better than UT. If not, then Spurrier should retire.

7:15 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Most of them aren't real, but dayum!

7:17 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Hoopie- I actually disagree. That breakdown was actually written by my brother, but I have a similar take on UT. But first, UGA, their OL should be the best in the league, they return every starter. I belive Cox will be good enough to move the ball, but I think the Defense will be terrible and that it will be the down fall of Georgia. Georgia's schedule is brutal this year and I actually think they will only be about a .500 team. If the defense is bad again this year, and Richt does not fire Martinez, then Richt's days will be numbered. They are already rumbling about that, and it will only get worse if the defense is bad.

UT- UT will be pretty stout on defense and it will buy the offense some time. UT had one of the best defenses last year with an offense that was just as bad if not worse than Auburn's. Kiffen may come off as a jack bag, but he is a very good OC and I think he will do just fine. Bryce Brown looks to be the real deal coming into his freshman year and they already have a veteran back that has proven he can carry the load Kiffen loves to be innovative and run the ball, and I think he will do succesfully. I would not be surprised to see UT win 9-10 games this year.

UGA has had top ten recruiting classes that past 6-7 seasons. they have talent. I should really go find the link to support this statement, but I seem to recall that UGA has had AU-type attrition on the OL...injury, grades, drunk, etc.

I just can't see predicting the UT offense doing anything..all season, until they prove something.

I see on AL.com that South Alabama has commitments from Auburn Highs' QB Calvin Jenkins and DT Rodney Thomas. LB coach Kurt Crain recruited them for USA. I wonder how they will affect Troy in the recruiting battles, Troy has really picked up some nice players over the years that AU and UA didn't offer.

Wartiger, you'll probably have to pay for the radio feed for the lower tier games. Yahoo Sports usually has the video feed of the 11:30 SEC games for free.

Most of the others will be on CBS, ESPN/ESPN2, maybe ESPNU. Last year, there were 1 or 2 on ESPN 360 that I couldn't get otherwise (and ESPN 360 was not an option with Comcast.)

9:22 PM

360 really needs to expand service to all major internet providers. It is frustrating when a game is available, but not to you.

Scott Chocolate has helped, but we need some players.

The 11:30 games are supposed to be covered by the ESPN networks this year, probably ESPN U.

There will be no Lincoln Financial/Jefferson Pilot/Raycom this year.

They have already said that at least 11 of Auburn's 12 games should be televised somewhere this year.

MG...this season hinges on the OL and we just don't know yet.

A train coming would be something similar to the Barfield days. I can't imagine that.

I jumped the fence from Bammer to AU during the Barfield days. Ya gotta really love AU to do that.

There is one at I-65 at Malfunction Junction, one on Rocky Ridge I think, not sure where the others are. I think I read there were 4 in B'ham.

Now they want me to go spend significant time in WV for the next few months when I am way more efficient here at my desk instead of in the field with no IT connection or printer when I am the paper pusher of the company. Just venting, but it's really getting on my nerves. I know times are hard in the market, but i'm going to try and find something else. Eddie, there's definitely something to be said for quality of life. I took a huge % pay cut to come home to NC from Ga 9 years ago. Got to spend time with my folks before they passed. Home for dinner almost every day. No ATL traffic. Before it was work work work and it was miserable. The only down side is that I'm now 500 miles (precisely) from Auburn. Good luck in your search.

8:03 AM

of course, increased distance to Auburn is offset by ability to HABOTN during the day. That would have never happened in GA.

Tar Heel- I agree with that completely. Idealy, I would love to either work in Chattanooga or Auburn as my wife works at KSU here in Georgia and would love the chance to do the same at Auburn. "A successful senior year for me would probably be averaging five yards a carry, around like 14 touchdowns and over 1,200 yards rushing," Tate said. "That would be a very nice, successful senior year and I think that would just silence all the critics that I do have."

BOOYAH!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Monica Watch for Autauga, Elmore, and Montgomery counties from now until Thursday at 6 p.m.

A watch does not mean that a Monica has been spotted, but that conditions are favorable for a Monica.

Stay tuned to further bulletins from the National Weather Service.

MrsTHT loves college football and has even driven to Auburn without me for games. But she thinks she can make better use of her weekend than a trip to get limeade. There's a lot of yard work that someone else isn't going to do.

THT,

You missed the white peaches this year, but all of the peaches have been really good so far. I'll bring you two baskets so that you'll have some left by the time you get home.

j-z,

Now it would be stupid for me not to drive 1000 miles. I have no doubt that the Chilton County peach is the official state peach of Heaven.
