The SEC gets its own network
Hey everyone. The Southeastern Conference and ESPN will be teaming to create the "SEC Network" this fall, though it's far less comprehensive than what the Big 10 has done with its network.
Here's the deal. So you know ESPN purchased the rights to the Saturday morning games. Here's what you didn't know ... those games won't be shown on ESPN.
They'll be on these stations instead*
Birmingham-Tuscaloosa-Anniston: WTTO and WABM
Dothan: WTVY/HD (CBS)
Huntsville-Decatur-Florence: WDZX/HD (Fox) and WAMY
Mobile-Pensacola-Ft. Walton: WJTC (IND)
Montgomery-Selma: WCOV/HD (Fox)
Atlanta: WPCH/HD (IND)
Knoxville, Tenn.: WVLT/HD (CBS)
Huntington, W.Va.: WSAZ/HD (NBC)
Columbia, S.C.: WIS/HD (NBC)
Macon, Ga.: WGXA/HD (Fox)
Dallas, Texas: KTXA (IND)
Phoenix, Ariz.: KTVK; won't carry basketball
The "SEC Network" will carry football games on 13 consecutive Saturdays beginning on Sept. 5. The pre-game show will start at 11 a.m. CDT with kickoff scheduled for 11:21 a.m.
Your commentators will be Dave Neal, Andre Ware and Cara Capuano.
Your studio hosts will be Rob Stone and former Georgia lineman Matt Stinchcomb.
*I have attempted to identify all markets where HOTTIES are represented.

WAR EAGLE!!
guess I'm SOL here in Mass huh?
talkin to myself..talking to myself...

still talking to myself..talking to myself...
Repost from previous thread regarding another FSU player that Trickett ran off. Interestingly, he went to UNA to play for Bowden.
Furlong: Line coach drove me off
I need to get confirmation on this, but I'd say you SEC Network viewers in ATL and Bammerham will be watching those games in LOW DEF.
From the comments generated by the story Kathy linked:
'MY COACH YELLED AT ME AND HURT MY FEELINGS. DO YOU WEAR GIRL PANTIES?'
Now that makes me laugh. Someone get this guy a mic!
Wait, based on JGT's comment here -NOT SWEET since I'd be directly and negatively impacted.
No doubt the bammerham games will be in lo definition.
In a related note La La Larry Langford broke ground today on the dome in Bham that will never be built.
I'll miss the three Dave's...At least we got to keep one of em....
SEC on WNCN-17 here in Triangle!!! Yea!!!
It's our NBC affiliate.. not sure how SEC game of the week vs Notre Dame home game will play out.
Flight of War Eagle
Hey everyone. My show will be airing live tonight at the below link from 8pm - 9pm CST as I'm driving in Virginia. Please join us.
www.blogtalkradio.com/gridironbreakdown/2009/07/22/Auburn-Football-Insider-Podcast
Thanks for IDing the station's, Jay G. That was very thoughtful of you.
Call in to the Podcast tonight at 347-826-9452.
Everything on my low-def TV is in....you guess it, low-def. I really don't mind radio if that's all I got, a picture is a nice bonus.
my question regarding phillips is this. how is trickett dogging him so much if he isnt allowed to coach him yet. fall practice hasnt started. i notice in tricketts response he went to great pains to say he had little contact with phillips. that is in direct conflict w/ what phillips indicates. me thinks fsu has more violations????
fsu. i read where the bham station now broadcasts in high def. I hope thats true.
JayGT - where did you find that list of stations?
Man, that commentator lineup is middling at best.
deadliest catch. hurricane force winds. should be cool.
sponge...
My dad watches that show like his life depends on it. It's pretty funny.
No mention of DC in any of the articles I've been able to find :-(
No HD in Birmingham?!?!?!!! WTF?!
I'm drafting The Rock to my team.
dealiest catch can be pretty good reality tv. no silicone on this one....
I demand a recount! or something... that sucks!
i swear i read there was hd tv on wtto in bham news this morning. maybe i misread
Found the full list of stations on the SEC website. No DC :-(
list of stations carrying SEC early game
Thanks NoVA
Love Deadliest Catch!
Also tonight was the return of the great Richard C. Davis on TLC....Sadly the return was boring. Not on par with his show from two years ago.
On a totally OT subject.....has anyone ever used Google Talk? I received an "invitation" the other day to sign up for it. Apparently the invites are finally coming out after a period of time in which they weren't given.
i read the furlong article. looks like terry is still livin off his daddy in recruiting. some things dont change
The Braves are rolling. Nice.
I see in my crystal ball....a sustained slump for the Phils.
WNCN's tower is located in AUBURN, NC (just southeast of Raleigh) ---WAR EAGLE!!!
THTjr loves deadliest catch. I don't do boats, not even on tv.
THT,
You are a funny guy. No boats, no onions, yes to ice cream and diet coke.
Monica, regarding your post about flavor of the month, when Spurrier was winning big I never got the feeling watching him that I get from watching Saban and Meyer. He could insult someone with the best of them, but he had humor about it when doing so. Fulmer wasn't humorous, but I don't remember seeing him talk down to media guys like Saban and Meyer do. I just didn't sense the "I'm so much better than all of you" from them that I sense from these two. Maybe it's just me.
and peaches! Don't forget peaches!!!
depressed,
it's not just you
I'm guessing that wartiger and myself won't be watching SEC football on any of the local stations here in new england.
Any idea if this will affect games on espn360? I just noticed that espn360 is now available on crapcast, oops, comcast so that's my plan for watching the games that aren't nationally televised.
You should be good with 360. Us locals are SOL because they'll be blacked out.
Low-Def is the pits.
mrdude - sorry to see no New England stations listed. I'm betting you and wartiger could drive over to Bristol, CT and peek in the window. SEC game is bound to be on one of their monitors.
Thanks for covering Columbia, Jay. I have been debating getting gameplan, but it doesn't seem necessary this season.
SteveFC - how could you say that? You'll still need GamePlan for all the other conferences! I can't wait for Saturdays filled with 13 non-stop hours of college football!
oh my, we're still on Mark Dorminey Day! Run clock run!
I'm watching the JGT identified ATL SEC station WPCH now. Braves are on it in HD. I didn't pay close enough attention to the specific station for my area. So, I'd say all appears to be well.
Peachtree TV eh? That'll work.
What day is today in the countdown?
I remember a Mark Dorminey story from Tangerine Bowl week 1982 when we beat Doug Flutie and BC.
The first night in Orlando, the team had no curfew. But it did have practice early the following a.m.
Let's just say ol' No. 46 was strugglin'.
I forgot to say ... PHOENIX, of all places, HAS IT.
mucho gracias for the break down, Jay. I was wondering where I would find my SEC this fall.
Norm, thanks for that update on WPCH.
For mrdude and wartiger:
"In markets outside the SEC footprint, the syndicated programming will air on either local, over-the-air television stations or regional sports cable networks."
... so there is hope.
depressed- I think maybe time away from the Gators has softened your memories of Spurrier. Whatever the case, I don't believe Meyer and Saban are just a flavor of the month attitude (whatever that means).
That's just me.
JGT - I'm here to assist where I can. That particular assist wore me out. I'll need a beer. I better tell the wife to get it for me.
I love me some Steve Spurrier.
So Friday is "43"....James Owens day???
Could that trigger an announcement by Ladarious Owens?
I wonder if we could entice Lad-O into making a public announcement right here on the HABOTN on James Owens day?
sorry... getting ahead of myself... football season is taking too long to get here!
DAVE NEAL LIVES!!!!
Recruiting, while very important, is about to get put on the serious backburner, at least for me. I've got preseason NFL coming up, the Braves are heating up, which means more trips to the Ted...not to mention Media Days and Fall practice...man I'm getting pumped up!
Mark Richt and $aban have competed in recruiting 8 times since 2002. According to Scout, Richt has averaged a 7.25 ranking and $aban has averaged 8.25 ranking.
Starting in 2006 and ever since, Richt succeeded getting all of the best recruits from Ga, which has many more athletes than Ala. This has hampered AU. Now that CN$ is getting the majority of Ala recruits, there's not much left for us.
I also imagine that CMR and CN$ have about the same SEC winning %. Worst season for CMR....4 loses.
I say focus on AU and what we're doing without comparing to CN$. Whining about CN$ sounds like a bunch of low self esteem wanabes.
Sean...when does pre-season NFL kickoff?
That is a good attitude Hoopie.
Well said, Hoopie. Could not care less bout UGA nor UAT at this point. I'd just like to see a team not quit at halftime.
Spurrier was cocky, but he was also entertaining(at least he was to me). I don't think anyone would classify Saban/Meyer as entertaining or funny. My flavor of the month comment refers to the current trend of the way Meyer and Saban conduct themselves as the CEO/Dictator of their respective programs. There was a time when a coach at least had to pretend he answered to someone besides himself at a university.
They are both outstanding coaches, and I am not predicting they will go away. I only hope that they will.
wait, i'm not sure if myVLT2 in knoxville is HD. oh snap! breathe scottie....breathe.
Sean....enjoy those pro sports. I don't watch money ball any more.
Who is whining about Saban?
D. Miller - shhhhh! But yes, that is one of the days where I considered no one else.
Titans open August 8th in Canton, OH for the Hall of Fame game. I can't believe it's only a little over 2 weeks away.
In other unrelated news...
Apple posted excellent numbers today.
No doubt due to the excitement over my return to the company.
the Braves rocked the Giants again tonite. my kids and i enjoyed it on Peachtree tv in HD. got to face Lincecum tomorrow. he's 5-0 vs. the Braves. :(
That means they're due, Scottie!!
word. i'll have to dvr it b/c the wife and i are going out to eat for our anniversary. i really haven't been able to see Lincecum pitch much.
me either, Hoopie. Except college football ;-)
Lincecum is every bit as good as he's made out to be. But everyone has a bad night.
congrats FSJ - I oh so wanted to buy your stock at $90 but was afraid the liver transplant wouldn't come through in time.
depressed - you mean like Bear Bryant? I'm not trying to be argumentative. We just see things differently.
Lincecum reminds me of the kid who plays baseball in the movie "Dazed and Confused". he ends up drinking at the party with his big sis and coming home at daybreak. ausome movie.
You know what I love about high school girls? I keep getting older and they stay the same age...yes they do...yes they do.
In all seriousness the Auburn grad (Cook) that filled in for Jobs did an excellent job. I'm sure that their product line is decided a year or so in advance, but still their stock did well while Cook was at the helm.
FSJ, as an avid Apple fan myself, I was glad to see Cook come in and keep the ship going while Jobs was away.
Sean,
I have no idea how old you are, but I've just realized that I am VERY close to middle age.
Sucks
I'm 24 years young, Fake.
Saban and Meyer give off the impression that they are ruthless tools that use everything and everyone to get their desired destination. They are taking the NFL model and applying it college. All business, all the time.
Spurrier, when he arrived at Florida, was viewed as lazy, more concerned about golf, and a smart@$$ who couldn't cut it in this league. History is beginning to show that his time at Florida was the perfect collision of scheme, attitude and talent. He's not going to get it done in South Carolina beyond what he's done thus far.
Sigh...
I remember that age...
Monica, I have done a poor job of explaining the point I was trying to make. I started off comparing Meyer/Saban's attitude to Richt's, and I have veered off course. You and I see things differently here, and I am fine with that. I meant no insult towards anyone.
24 ... the last year for me prior to marriage.
I AM middle-aged. Dangit.
Give me a dictator coach any day.
Somebody has to be in charge.
Jay G, tell me i get coverage in Tejas
I'm watching my favorite baseball player, Joshua Beckett, pitch pretty well against Texas.
He's probably going to lose.
I grew up a Bammer in the 60's-70's and first yelled War Eagle when we beat Florida on October 29, 1977. This was during the Barfield days. Back in those days Auburn had a lot of fans that exhibited a quiet confidence and lack of whining that I respected even as a Bammer. Now.....not so much.
Bammer, then, and especially now, has too many fans full of self-induced arrogance.
Hoopie....a bammer...
LMAO!!!
That is why I read HABOTN.
Taylor: Looks like the Fox affiliate in Tyler/Longview is going to be carrying the football games. Is that close enough?
Also, the SEC Network will be on Dallas broadcast as well.
My initial prediction that Spurrier took the USC job to coast, milk USC, and play Augusta as much as possible....seems prophetic.
Jet, I need some instruction on making clear points. You summed it up very well.
I agree with you on Spurrier, but I have a soft spot for the 'ol ball coach. I would like to see him do well.
I agree completely with Faker.
I'm sure nobody here is guilty of this, BUT some folks hate on Saban just because he belongs to bama.
Saban doesn't impress me as a "ruthless tool". That's very emotional. He impresses me as someone is scared to death of failure = perfectionist = control freak. A perfectionist makes a great employee and if his or her fear works to your advantage that's a good thing.
depressed - I understood your point completely. You don't need any help from anyone.
Mon - I'm a great employee. Though I'm not a perfectionist. I often make mistakes. I'm still a great employee. I AM. I AM. Don't you dare say differently.
Oh, though I rarely make the same mistake more than once.
FSJ....my dad graduated from Bama. His father/my grandfather played football for AU in the 1920's. My uncle went to AU. Thanksgiving was wild at my grandparent's house in the 60's-70's. My grandparents had 22 grandkids that were split evenly between the 2 schools.
This is probably where Sean is going to call me a bammer.
I, like my compadre jet, married at 25. I recently had my 10 year anniversary.
I, however, am a young buck and nowhere near middle-age.
when I see $atan, all I see is a bammer. Any attributes which may be present are obscured.
FSJ - if it makes you feel any younger, I'm past middle age, unless of course, I have the lifespan of a bristlecone pine :-(
You were wrong earlier, Norm. Yes, I would SO hurt you.
;-)
bammer.
That only happened one time and I was joking!
Bammer all the way. She's been revealed.
Mon....I like the call on "scared of failure/perfectionist/control freak". There are many good middle managers with those qualities....and ....so it seems... football coaches.
He's a tool ... was in Baton Rouge ... was in Miami ... is in Tuscaloosa. Will be wherever he coaches next should he leave.
We keep the same channels we've always had here in Chattanooga...however I will warn you Andre Ware, while a huge improvment over Dave Rowe, is awful.
Rahrin!
I think it's dumb to hate Saban. I think it's dumb to hate UAT. The real weapon is indifference. I'm trying to harness this technology as we speak. I still hate.
Saban impresses me as someone who likes to intimidate people.
Folks seem to be scared of him. I don't understand it. I would mash him in a physical altercation. I hope I never have the chance because I'm afraid I'd take it.
RK...
While I spoke of the team earlier as middling, I was thinking of Ware as awful, but hated to say it. It is, however, true.
ehyou.....only 35...just a kid. When 35, I did 10k runs and ordered suits with a 13 inch drop. Now at 54, I can buy them off the rack.
Sean ...
I would submit "indifference" helped get us in the pickle we're in right now.
Plus, when you double up those 24 years, maybe you'll see things a little differently.
Not indifferently.
Fan indifference is different than Coach indifference. Referring to the latter, I completely agree with you.
I'm indifferent towards my daughter's mother (beta-wife). I hate UAT.
$aban is is incredibly(possibly neurotically) focused. That is what gets him in trouble socially ...and intimdates folks.
Many fans are looking for someone to hold up as a beacon for their team. Once free agency became the norm, that stopped. Players and coaches decided the owners run it like a business, therefore we should do our thing like a business. Loyalty lasts as long as the next paycheck.
hoopie...
You've mentioned working for one of the "big boys" in Atlanta. I did my time with Choate with a similar "starched collar" attitude. I have moved on to much more down-home companies and am much happier.
I read an article about Saban when he went to UAT where a LSU fans said he was an SOB and the UAT fan yes, but now he is our SOB.
Anyone read about Corey Crawford now considering Auburn since Georgia screwed over his teammate?
jeez, will the Phils ever stop winning?
I beacame indifferent at work once. I was promoted 3 times in 4 years, then My boss got intimidated and started undermining me .....I became indifferent until I left. I...like coaches in that same position, made sure that I won the game.
I suppose ...at the end of the day, yeller feller did us a favor with that phone call. Of course, the fact that he would dare to make the call is indicative of the larger problem that still exists at AU today.
I do not dislike Saban. I respect him immensely because he gets it. He is a salesman to the nth degree. He markets his program and never stops. Too many other coaches want to rest. That is fine, but you lose your best clients (recruits) by resting. That is what got Tubbs in trouble.
Our new crop of coaches will make it more difficult for Saban as they will not roll over when he comes callin'. They still might not get all they want, but if he gets them I feel he will have to work much harder.
All of this is assuming AU starts winning in a big way soon.
I saw that Steve.
I am also looking for article I was told about today, where the head coach at UAT has told a running back from LA and C. Grant, that he is not happy with any of the running backs on campus now and will change his offense if they commit.
(For now that is a rumor to me, as I doubt any kid would believe it or any coach is dumb enough to say it.)
ehyou....Back in the day, I worked for Holder Construction and Cousins Properties Development....both are old line Atl bluebloods ....and played the game appropriately and well.
Now I do it how I want to do. I'm barely surviving this downturn, but wouldn't trade it for anything.
Good night Hotties.
See you Norm.
I feel like there will be at least a move in a direction for out offense. We have 14 guys coming back (O/D) and a couple guys that can contribute immediately. With a motivated coaching staff we'll have more fight than most folks expect.
I was looking up some stuff tonight and saw a pic and synopsis of Tubberville. It still makes me a little sad. He may not have been perfect (especially at the end), but I just liked the guy.
We will just have to see about the coaches. It may take a while for them to get the clout that Tuberville had. So far this year's class looks about like last year, but better than 2007.
Tubs was a great guy and a good coach. But his time was up as Auburn's head coach. He did what he could and he had a good run. I was in school for the best of it and it was a great ride. That said, I'm excited about the new staff and the future of the program.
I like the potential and have really liked how Chizik has behaved as the head coach. How long this staff stays together and how well they coach together is yet to be seen.
Yep, if it was time to make a change (probable), better to do it sooner than later.
The change is made, so it is pointless to discuss.
If Chizco proves that they can coach...our recruiting will pick up even more. Hopefully some of top recruits haven't committed because they are waiting to see.
Let's give Coach Gene Chizik credit for overcoming the awfully loud groan expelled by the AU fans(me included) during his announcement.
Trivia - anyone remember Ronnie Brown's # as a freshman?
Let me scoop out my bowl of ice cream and I'll check back for the answer
Hoopie, I had the same thought with regard to recruiting. Many may be waiting to see how we do this season.
Aarrrgggh!!
TV 21 Lo Def and the "B" team announcers.
Like watching tv through a murky aquarium.
What is 48?
count me as one that, if I could have gotten to the airport, would have thrown something at JJ when he got off the plane. I still think he is in way over his head, but I like the Chizik hire now after what he has done to this point.
36?
RB's # was 20 in HS. I didn't remember it being anything except 23.
THT ... 867-5309?
Chiz and the ChizWhizz have done just about everything I could hope for to this point ... quibbling about commitments at this point is ... quibbling.
The big work is ahead.
JJ hired Chizik based upon the plan he had. The kid at the airport ended up looking pretty foolish. Now that I have seen what Chiz had in mind, I like the choice.
Malzahn as HC would have pleased me more, although only because I think it would have kept him here. I think Chizik may have the better temperament for the job.
I think Chizik is going to run our program into the ground and we'll be lucky to win 5 and lose only 19.
I did buy a "Join the Chizik Republik" T-shirt this weekend. It has a Tiger with Eagle wings on it. It's rad.
I think it's 48 as well.
Jet - try 844-4244
R. Brown wore #48 as a freshman. I found it on the WWW, so I no it is true.
What do I win?
Steve ...
Gus needs some more time in the college game before he gets a head coaching job (at least at the highest levels of the game) -- this is his fourth season as a college coach.
We actually ended up being competitive in most of our games last season and there wasn't a big talent drop off. I think we have the players to do well this season. Yea, we will likely end up in the bottom half of the west, but we will be competitive, particularly early on.
Nothing has been rad since 1989 except for sean's 2009 t-shirt.
Sean - after my bowl of ice cream I'll have one more DC to wash it down and then call it a night.
Dare I say it.
Sean, your an idiot.
A preseason roster from the 2000 season should have the answer. He was redshirted after game 2 or 3. He ran the ball about 2 times, had a fumble ripped out of his true freshman arms and was promptly redshirted.
So what Jet. Look at Jerry Faust and what he did. He came straight from high school to Notre Dame and...ummm,,,wait a minute. Never mind.
I was going for ironic, but idiot is the term this week. So it goes.
Couldn't believe someone mistook Sean for Tony Franklin earlier today.
After the WVU loss, I posted a couple of times that Malzahn needs to be our OC. Only thought he woul dbe good due to his ability to take Tulsa to the top in offensive categories, which AU needs.
Ah Steve, I can clear that up. Tony Franklin is a dumbass. I'm just an idiot. I think the exact phrase was, "hey Sean THE idiot." I think that carries a bit more weight, what do you guys think?
My post prior to THT's = obviously legit
My post post THT's = apparently pathetic
Yea, I was hoping Tuberville would hire him because of the Arkansas/Nutt connection.
5-19? Sean..you ARE an idiot..or...a Bammer...wait....that's redundant
wtc...
I love it. More people should be idiots.
Hahaha, Sean, I stand corrected.
CTF did the same for Troy that CGM did for Tulsa. Let's hope the similarities end there.
I wonder if the Georgia/Carver blunder will ripple through to any more of their recruits. Dang Richt, you pulled a real boner. If the kids are there to commit, you just accept the commitment and live with it.
In all seriousness I think Chiz is more likely to go 19-5 than 5-19. That prob makes me an even bigger idiot.
Sean...if you are going to keep calling yourself an idiot, you'll need a corresponding avatar.
THT, I think the big difference will be the other offensive coaches. Malzahn will be listened to. I bet Troop and Lupe came to Auburn so they could learn from Malzahn. Somehow, I don't think NallKnoxMinger was interested in being educated.
I kinda like the '50's kid giving the thumbs-up and the wink.
Sean-I will take 19-5 right now. With a record like that, AU will be OK.
Coleman, Ziemba, and Tate have been named to the pre-season All-SEC team. I must admit I am surprised.
Sean...if a few folks can step up at a few key positions and if we don't have the wrong injuries, we do have the talent to go 9-3. The problem: that's a lot of ifs.
Is anything happening at AU this weekend? I am going over on Saturday to move some furniture can certainly start an impromptu rolling at TC.
I want Ben Tate to take his place in the pantheon of great AU running backs. I think about 10-15 TDs and 1k yards would do it.
Anybody think Grant commits to AU this week?
Hoopie, I completely agree.
I'm thinking he's going to UAT. I have zero to back that. I just don't think we get him.
Sean...the thumbs up is cool.
I think UAT planned the Vogler commit announcement to offset the Grant commit to AU announcement.
I'm preseason All-SEC too. I haven't done anything, either.
Our success this season depends primarily on finding a consistent QB and avoiding key injuries.
As for Tate, I very him as a good back with the potential to be great, sort of like Carl Stewart or Heath Evans.
Now that's an angle I haven't heard yet. The chess match continues.
By the way, I'm officially issuing a new page warning!
wtc - I certainly hope you are right. If so, we could be heading to the same kind of RB depth that UA-T has at LB.
THT..My pick for the best post of the night.

10:19 PM
I will give my coaching speech for QBs again. Try and go out there and not do something stupid.
getting there pretty fast tonight
gosh, Hoopie, no one's ever said that to me before!
I am thinking Franklin will be successful at MTSU. He was just the wrong fit for Auburn.
The one thing that gives me a good feeling with a new staff is the fresh start. There can't be any appearance of coaches playing favorites, alienating players, having agendas...that kind of attitude change could have a very positive effect in all aspects of the game.
It's late in the EDT..nite all.
