The SEC gets its own network

Hey everyone. The Southeastern Conference and ESPN will be teaming to create the "SEC Network" this fall, though it's far less comprehensive than what the Big 10 has done with its network.

Here's the deal. So you know ESPN purchased the rights to the Saturday morning games. Here's what you didn't know ... those games won't be shown on ESPN.

They'll be on these stations instead*
Birmingham-Tuscaloosa-Anniston: WTTO and WABM
Dothan: WTVY/HD (CBS)
Huntsville-Decatur-Florence: WDZX/HD (Fox) and WAMY
Mobile-Pensacola-Ft. Walton: WJTC (IND)
Montgomery-Selma: WCOV/HD (Fox)
Atlanta: WPCH/HD (IND)
Knoxville, Tenn.: WVLT/HD (CBS)
Huntington, W.Va.: WSAZ/HD (NBC)
Columbia, S.C.: WIS/HD (NBC)
Macon, Ga.: WGXA/HD (Fox)
Dallas, Texas: KTXA (IND)
Phoenix, Ariz.: KTVK; won't carry basketball

The "SEC Network" will carry football games on 13 consecutive Saturdays beginning on Sept. 5. The pre-game show will start at 11 a.m. CDT with kickoff scheduled for 11:21 a.m.

Your commentators will be Dave Neal, Andre Ware and Cara Capuano.

Your studio hosts will be Rob Stone and former Georgia lineman Matt Stinchcomb.

*I have attempted to identify all markets where HOTTIES are represented.

Monica, regarding your post about flavor of the month, when Spurrier was winning big I never got the feeling watching him that I get from watching Saban and Meyer. He could insult someone with the best of them, but he had humor about it when doing so. Fulmer wasn't humorous, but I don't remember seeing him talk down to media guys like Saban and Meyer do. I just didn't sense the "I'm so much better than all of you" from them that I sense from these two. Maybe it's just me.

9:01 PM

Mark Richt and $aban have competed in recruiting 8 times since 2002. According to Scout, Richt has averaged a 7.25 ranking and $aban has averaged 8.25 ranking.

Starting in 2006 and ever since, Richt succeeded getting all of the best recruits from Ga, which has many more athletes than Ala. This has hampered AU. Now that CN$ is getting the majority of Ala recruits, there's not much left for us.

I also imagine that CMR and CN$ have about the same SEC winning %. Worst season for CMR....4 loses.

Spurrier was cocky, but he was also entertaining(at least he was to me). I don't think anyone would classify Saban/Meyer as entertaining or funny. My flavor of the month comment refers to the current trend of the way Meyer and Saban conduct themselves as the CEO/Dictator of their respective programs. There was a time when a coach at least had to pretend he answered to someone besides himself at a university.

They are both outstanding coaches, and I am not predicting they will go away. I only hope that they will.

Saban and Meyer give off the impression that they are ruthless tools that use everything and everyone to get their desired destination. They are taking the NFL model and applying it college. All business, all the time.

Spurrier, when he arrived at Florida, was viewed as lazy, more concerned about golf, and a smart@$$ who couldn't cut it in this league. History is beginning to show that his time at Florida was the perfect collision of scheme, attitude and talent. He's not going to get it done in South Carolina beyond what he's done thus far.

Bammer, then, and especially now, has too many fans full of self-induced arrogance.

I agree completely with Faker.

I'm sure nobody here is guilty of this, BUT some folks hate on Saban just because he belongs to bama.

Saban doesn't impress me as a "ruthless tool". That's very emotional. He impresses me as someone is scared to death of failure = perfectionist = control freak. A perfectionist makes a great employee and if his or her fear works to your advantage that's a good thing.

I suppose ...at the end of the day, yeller feller did us a favor with that phone call. Of course, the fact that he would dare to make the call is indicative of the larger problem that still exists at AU today.

9:50 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I do not dislike Saban. I respect him immensely because he gets it. He is a salesman to the nth degree. He markets his program and never stops. Too many other coaches want to rest. That is fine, but you lose your best clients (recruits) by resting. That is what got Tubbs in trouble.

9:50 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Our new crop of coaches will make it more difficult for Saban as they will not roll over when he comes callin'. They still might not get all they want, but if he gets them I feel he will have to work much harder.

All of this is assuming AU starts winning in a big way soon.

9:51 PM

I am also looking for article I was told about today, where the head coach at UAT has told a running back from LA and C. Grant, that he is not happy with any of the running backs on campus now and will change his offense if they commit.

count me as one that, if I could have gotten to the airport, would have thrown something at JJ when he got off the plane. I still think he is in way over his head, but I like the Chizik hire now after what he has done to this point.

RB's # was 20 in HS. I didn't remember it being anything except 23.

THT ... 867-5309?

Chiz and the ChizWhizz have done just about everything I could hope for to this point ... quibbling about commitments at this point is ... quibbling.

The big work is ahead.

JJ hired Chizik based upon the plan he had. The kid at the airport ended up looking pretty foolish. Now that I have seen what Chiz had in mind, I like the choice.

Malzahn as HC would have pleased me more, although only because I think it would have kept him here. I think Chizik may have the better temperament for the job.

I think Chizik is going to run our program into the ground and we'll be lucky to win 5 and lose only 19.

I did buy a "Join the Chizik Republik" T-shirt this weekend. It has a Tiger with Eagle wings on it. It's rad.

I think it's 48 as well.

Jet - try 844-4244

R. Brown wore #48 as a freshman. I found it on the WWW, so I no it is true.

Steve ...

Gus needs some more time in the college game before he gets a head coaching job (at least at the highest levels of the game) -- this is his fourth season as a college coach.

We actually ended up being competitive in most of our games last season and there wasn't a big talent drop off. I think we have the players to do well this season. Yea, we will likely end up in the bottom half of the west, but we will be competitive, particularly early on.

Nothing has been rad since 1989 except for sean's 2009 t-shirt.

Sean - after my bowl of ice cream I'll have one more DC to wash it down and then call it a night.

Dare I say it.

Sean, your an idiot.

A preseason roster from the 2000 season should have the answer. He was redshirted after game 2 or 3. He ran the ball about 2 times, had a fumble ripped out of his true freshman arms and was promptly redshirted.

10:13 PM

So what Jet. Look at Jerry Faust and what he did. He came straight from high school to Notre Dame and...ummm,,,wait a minute. Never mind.

I was going for ironic, but idiot is the term this week. So it goes.

Couldn't believe someone mistook Sean for Tony Franklin earlier today.

10:14 PM
Blogger wtc said...

After the WVU loss, I posted a couple of times that Malzahn needs to be our OC. Only thought he woul dbe good due to his ability to take Tulsa to the top in offensive categories, which AU needs.

10:15 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Ah Steve, I can clear that up. Tony Franklin is a dumbass. I'm just an idiot. I think the exact phrase was, "hey Sean THE idiot." I think that carries a bit more weight, what do you guys think?

Yea, I was hoping Tuberville would hire him because of the Arkansas/Nutt connection.

I wonder if the Georgia/Carver blunder will ripple through to any more of their recruits. Dang Richt, you pulled a real boner. If the kids are there to commit, you just accept the commitment and live with it.

10:19 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

In all seriousness I think Chiz is more likely to go 19-5 than 5-19. That prob makes me an even bigger idiot.

Sean...if you are going to keep calling yourself an idiot, you'll need a corresponding avatar.

10:20 PM

THT, I think the big difference will be the other offensive coaches. Malzahn will be listened to. I bet Troop and Lupe came to Auburn so they could learn from Malzahn. Somehow, I don't think NallKnoxMinger was interested in being educated.

10:20 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I kinda like the '50's kid giving the thumbs-up and the wink.

10:22 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Sean-I will take 19-5 right now. With a record like that, AU will be OK.

10:23 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Coleman, Ziemba, and Tate have been named to the pre-season All-SEC team. I must admit I am surprised.

10:23 PM

Sean...if a few folks can step up at a few key positions and if we don't have the wrong injuries, we do have the talent to go 9-3. The problem: that's a lot of ifs.

10:24 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Is anything happening at AU this weekend? I am going over on Saturday to move some furniture can certainly start an impromptu rolling at TC.

10:24 PM

I want Ben Tate to take his place in the pantheon of great AU running backs. I think about 10-15 TDs and 1k yards would do it.

10:25 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Anybody think Grant commits to AU this week?

10:25 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Hoopie, I completely agree.

I'm thinking he's going to UAT. I have zero to back that. I just don't think we get him.

10:26 PM

Sean...the thumbs up is cool.

10:26 PM

I think UAT planned the Vogler commit announcement to offset the Grant commit to AU announcement.

I'm preseason All-SEC too. I haven't done anything, either.

10:27 PM

Our success this season depends primarily on finding a consistent QB and avoiding key injuries.

As for Tate, I very him as a good back with the potential to be great, sort of like Carl Stewart or Heath Evans.

10:27 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Now that's an angle I haven't heard yet. The chess match continues.

I am thinking Franklin will be successful at MTSU. He was just the wrong fit for Auburn.

The one thing that gives me a good feeling with a new staff is the fresh start. There can't be any appearance of coaches playing favorites, alienating players, having agendas...that kind of attitude change could have a very positive effect in all aspects of the game.
