Norm's in Cali ... working away
APB on Norm. Great Hottie last seen surfing in So. Calif.
paulmain- That is a real team poster that they are posing for....or was it play girl? I'm not sure.
I could be talked into being a $1 ho in this economy.
How bout just ho`n for the sake of ho`n
Nahhhh that goes against my high principles.
riiiiiiiight.
Thanks scottie b. Interesting to read about Louisiana Tech. I found the comment that they need to score more against the good teams intriguing. That might help us a bit too, but how should I know. I don't get paid to do this:)
I hope to see us push Louisiana Tech around and win the game running, but it sounds as if they are vulnerable through the air.
This first game is likely going to give us a good idea where we are. Usually a game like this isn't important. This year it is.
I supose there's some things even a ho wont do
Going back to FSJ's question from earlier, I can't argue with any of the selections, but I would put James Brooks into the debate. He could do it all, except maybe classwork.
If I had to choose one player to start a team with it would be Ronnie Brown. No question about it. The guy could do it all.
JB was amazing. He was even better at running over bigger players than Caddie. Joe Cribbs & Ronnie Brown are still my favorite non-Bo RBs.
James Brooks - AU's all-time all-purpose yardage leader, 3rd in rushing yardage, averaged 7.41 ypc in 1979, has 2 of AU's all-time top 10 rushing seasons, all-time kick-off return yardage leader, 3rd all-time in kick-off return average, and he also was a good receiver and punt returner. Anyway, all this while sharing carries with Joe Cribbs 3 of his 4 years, much like Ronnie did with Caddie. Not saying I wouldn't take Ronnie Brown, but I personally think Brooks was a little better, albeit for inferior AU teams.
I like me some Joe Cribbs, too. I can't believe we had those guys at the same time, not to mention William Andrews. Of course, we totally under-utilized Andrews, as we saw when he got to the pros.
paulmain - did your avatar come from an email with lots of photos of kitty-cats? The wife of one of my co-workers received such an email with your avatar photo a few days ago.
and yes:
1. William Andrews did score on the last play of the 1st half vs Ga in 1978, and
2. William Andrews did gain enough yardage on 4th down late in the game near midfield.
One of the two worst officiated games I've ever witnessed. The other being the game at WFU in '79.
oh, and since you brought it up, Thom Gossom did NOT step out of bounds against Alabama!!!!
the single most devastating missed call would be when Gusty Yearout(?) was tackled just as he was about to tackle Stabler, who ended up running for the TD that beat AU 7-3. Hard to blame the refs too much since everything and everyone was "one with the mud".
yes, he did. But the pass int that caused him to do so wasn't called. Then they flag him 15 for catching the ball! I had steam coming out my earholes and most every other orifice.
Funny, I don't ever recall AU winning a game from a "bad" call ;-)
ah, i forgot about the non-call on Gusty. crap. u trying to put me in a bad mood THT?
HATE....B-A-M-A.
I remember the Brooks/Cribbs/Andrews years very foundly. It seemed like every game one of them would bust a 50 or 60 yard run. It was good times.
there you go Scottie B, now you're feeling it!
Norm would be proud... and Jet too!
oh yeah, I'm hatin some bama today!
(No offense to that fine Hottie, FSJ)
the Braves have lost 2 straight, THT's bringing the bad AU history lesson, and i'm listening to an interview with Coach Luper on ITAT radio. i'm filled with it.
37 days....
Norm can't come out to play today. He's too busy working.
THT ...
Sadly, the Gossom play was correctly called per the rules of the day. If you went out of bounds -- pushed before the ball was airborne or of your own effort -- you were ineligible.
The rule was subsequently changed.
Frank Sanders got a first down in 1994.
Gusty Yearout was tackled in 1967.
Then again, it doesn't require inepititude by officials to make me hate UAT.
Of course, as a former official, I tend to defend them more than most.
crap, and i had suppressed the '94 Sanders catch too. yall are killin' me.
Jet - didn't you know the video was altered? The video from the camera on Gossom was a few seconds ahead of the regular camera video, thereby making it look like he was pushed before the ball was airborne. You apparently understimated the far-reaching influence the $1000 handshakes from that other coach had on the IB.
For the record, a "$2 hoe" is an inexpensive garden tool whereas a "$2 ho" is someone who tends to wear out their welcome with their superiors.
I learn so much here.
Frank Sanders definately got a first down on our last drive in the 1994 Iron Bowl. The ref picked the ball up and moved it back over a yard then called for the chains.
A $2 Ho could be an inexpensive migrant worker as well.
Even I remember THAT, WERK.
Scottie does Tucker shed bad?
Rivals is saying Demond Washington and 5 others are still in limbo :-(
did someone say earlier that they were good to go?
Izauea Lanier failed to meet NCAA qualification standards and will enroll at East (Miss.) Community College this fall.
per auburnsports.com
What position was he anyway Mon?
This is according to Charles Goldberg:
Five signees are still waiting for the green light from the NCAA Clearinghouse. Three more will be in junior college. One is signing a pro baseball contract. Nineteen signees are on campus, including two that participated in spring practice. Florida State transfer Aubrey Phillips is also expected to be ready Wednesday.
The five that are still waiting for clearance -- which is often just a procedural thing -- are defensive linemen Josh Jackson and Terrance Coleman, defensive back Daren Bates and cornerbacks Demond Washington and Taikwon Paige.
The three going the junior college route are defensive backs Izauea Lanier and Reggie Taylor, as well as wide receiver LaVoyd James.
auburnsports.com says
"The news is not as positive for Paige, who has come up short of qualifying but is appealing a grade in a class he took last year."
Who's the pro baseball kid?
Unless the kid took summer school classes to quailify, I don't understand why the NCAA takes so long clearing players.
Brandon Jacobs is the baseball kid.
Losing Paige could hurt. He wasn't guarenteed to play, but it is a position of real need and he had a good shot to contribute.
WERK - some are just now taking classes and some are just now turning in their transcripts
High school is easy...go to class, do your homework, try to stay awake.
Coach Chizik borrows big suit from Talking Heads:
Big suit
You may ask yourself...
Same as it ever was
Scott- He looks like me a year ago. That's a terrible angle on that pic.
A - "Once in a Lifetime"
Q- How many times has a second grader seen Bammer beat AU?
and that's once too many times
Choco-Scott ...
That was priceless.
On signing day, I believed that several players would struggle to qualify.
That list included: Lavoyd James, Lanier, Paige, Josh Jackson, Demond Washington.
I am surprised to hear that Terrance Coleman isn't yet clearned.
"Coleman's enrollment has been delayed because he's had to submit transcripts from the two schools he attended prior to Williamson High School."
Sorry I can't be of more assistance. I'm up to my forehead in high-school busywork that will bury me until at least tomorrow night.
The upside: At least I'll head into Auburn practice without extraneous busywork to bog me down.
Hopefully that song title holds up until said second grader has a second grader of his or her own (and beyond). This past season was the first time my kids (ages 8 & 11) can remember losing the IB. They did not like it one bit.
JayGT - keep up the good work. We're thinking about you and appreciative of this HABOTN thing you got going.
