Days to kickoff: 26
Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:
26
Today's honoree never suited up in an Auburn football uniform, but he is a charter member of the Auburn Football Letterman's Club. I consider him more than worthy of Kickoff Kountdown recognition, but wasn't sure exactly where to place him. I decided to go with the year he was born: 1926. You just can't find a person nicer than this gentleman.
HAPPY KENNY HOWARD DAY!!!
NOTE: The following information has been copied directly from the Kenny Howard Athletic Training Fellowship web site.
Kenny Howard was born in 1926 in Crossville, Ala. He came to Alabama Polytechnic Institute to study agriculture, but got a job as student athletic trainer under the legendary trainer and track coach Wilbur Hutsell. Upon graduation in 1948, Howard was named Head Athletic Trainer and served in that capacity until 1976.
From 1976 through 1980 Kenny served Auburn as its first assistant athletics director for Olympic Sports. He retired from Auburn in 1980 and went to work as Director of Sports Relations for the Hughston Sports Medicine Foundation, Inc., and served in that position until his retirement in 1995.
While serving as Auburn's head trainer, Kenny became the confidant of head football coach Ralph Jordan. That friendship led to the 40-year association with Dr. Jack Hughston becoming Auburn's Orthopedic surgeon and team physician.
Kenny was the trainer for the U.S. Olympic Track team at Helsinki in 1952 and the trainer for the U.S. Olympic Swim team at Montreal in 1976. He also served as head trainer for the World University Games on two occasions. He was the trainer for the Blue-Gray game for ten consecutive years and the trainer for the Senior Bowl for two years.
Kenny was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He is the first athletic trainer to receive such an honor.
He served on the Auburn City Council from 1984 through 1987. He is married to the former Jeanne Barnhart and they have three sons and daughter. Jeanne and Kenny continue to reside in Auburn.

Ding
you got it
I thin my f5 button is on its way down hill...
It ain't easy beating you.
or my finger
AU1N04
not to be critical but I would have expected a little more "substance" from you...
=0)
Actually, I was caught by surprise and had nothing prepared.
ain't that horrible when i new thread sneaks up on you like that, AU1? :)
I know, and I am always going full speed too!
Oh DL.
When you guys get muffins from Costco (or anywhere else for that mater), do you heat them up before eating them?
there's a missing t in there somewhere. t
in reference Luv's link in a previous post:
I didn't realize the SEC was cutting out reporters ability to record audio from pressers. Will this super-sly beat start wearing coats and ties(Jay G-leading the way) so that they can conceal hidden spy microphones?
Vera Wang talking wedding dresses on Martha Stewart.
uh-oh, PF's gone off for 4 consecutive posts. apparently that's not good. and Vera Wang, what the....?
he said wang
I figured if I was gonna do something as offensive as 4 consecutive posts, the fourth one better be darned offensive to cap it off.
The post has a certain wang to it.
Jay G, did you see the link I posted on the thread in which were posting before you added the new threads? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.
JGT...
The twitter notifications are a nice feature. Thanks for the heads up.
PF - I haven't heated my muffins, should I?
There is a huge joke in there somewhere.
huge.
i dunno...just witnessed someone do this recently and wondered if I was doing it wrong. I do enjoy fresh muffins that are still warm, but not sure if re-heating them is bad etiquette.
I like my muffins warmed.
This whole SEC/Nazi style media rules is a load of horse manure!
I also read somewhere that the SEC wants to prevent FANS from taking pictures at sporting events and wants to dictate how a fan expresses their own memories of the game/event. This is just ridiculous that they think they can regulate the fans that way.
D.Miller -it's been at least 35 years since I ate at Hardee's. Stopped going there after they served a lettuce caterpillar on my burger.
the only time i ever go to Hardees is on gamedays in Auburn. my sister lives down Wire Rd so i usually go & pick up breakfast there a couple times a season.
Kenny was the trainer for the U.S. Olympic Track team in 1952 when the "Helsinki Episode" occurred, and I think we all remember how that turned out.
This is all Obama's fault.
I was thinking the same thing, AU1. But at least now Monica will be yelling at you and not me ;-)
Ha.
I would never yell at any of you angels.
I've never been to tweeter, however Conan O'Brien's Tweeter segment on his show is great.
I knew I could bring out Monica's smiling face! Good morning young lady!
I am powerless to resist you, THT.
Good morning. :-)
Behave you two. lol
If these overzealous fans would quit taping every foolish thing these SEC coachs say and intercepting text messages to mistresses and getting them in trouble, we wouldnt have these problems. Are coaches politicians?? Maybe this is Obama's fault lol
I'm headed out in search of another heat stroke.
Y'all Hotties stay chilly.
You know, the SEC's new media rules are just what the doctor ordered to help the newspapers bounce back.
Monnie, i'm assuming the painting is complete?
It's spreading.
The Miami Dolphins have banned fans from using cell phones at practice. Specifically, the Dolphins don't want fans to Twitter, update blogs or take pictures or video during practice.
As long as coaches don't stop saying foolish things or having mistresses. That would be no fun at all!
Scottie - It is not done. I had a steep learning curve on painting a gently lapping, Gulf of Mexico wave. Therefore, my completion date has been pushed back a week. I know I've disappointed you and I'm sorry. :-(
Anyone have any idea at all why the SEC would make this media rule? It seems a bit bizarre to me. Are Jay's videos a danger to national security or something?
not disappointed. just excited.
the wife & i painted our bedroom the past two days. we now have a serene mocha colored room. it's delicious.
Good morning,
The new media rule is about $ I suspect. Next they will start restricting airspace over SEC stadiums so the conference can ban "will you marry me" type of messages in lieu of more lucrative ads.
I found out who ordered the Code Red.
City's health department issues Code Red.....heat alert.
I already know what my next project is, Scottie. I want to do a series and I'm going to make them archetictural. I'm excited about that!
This SEC media restriction has to be about money. I've heard that there are several SEC schools that are not happy with the proposed rule and I expect a hard battle on this, especially from the pay sites. I honestly don't think it will go thru as proposed, but I could be wrong.
Monica- There is not much architecture in drawing a bama's fans double wide home. I think my 3 year old daughter could do a good drawing of that. And all those crayon marks outside the box will represent the trash that is found in the front yards.
Hmmm, I suppose dollars is a possibility, although Jay encoding messages to Osama in his videos seemed possible.
There goes my idea for a series on bama trailer parks! Gee thanks, Eddie. Now how am I supposed to take Daniel Moore's market away from him?
Somehow, Monica, I think you will find a way.
Wow, it took me forever to catch up on all the comments after spending the weekend at the lake. Related to JGT's article - I can't wait to see Eltoro play! Related to comments on previous threads - Is either of the Harry's markets better - Marietta or Alpharetta? I want to check one out. Strangely enough, my dad brought up Harry's market while we were at the lake. I had never heard of it. Also, someone mentioned the 07 Cotton Bowl being on tv. That's one of the coldest AU games I've ever been to. Ticked me off that they had the Nebraska yankees in the sun and AU fans in the shade. I was almost too cold to drink beer (almost).
Scott, you say yankee like it's a bad thing...
Luv - only because I was jealous of their cold weather blood on that day (and the sun that they were sitting in). Their fans were actually among the nicest I've ever encountered in my years of going to AU games...even if they were yankees. ;)
Luv - I'm sure he was just referring to unreformed yankees.
Monica, maybe if you did a series on Alabama single wides with a satellite dish and Bama flag on the outside? Preferrably the satellite dish would be one of those 6 foot diameter jobs. Surely that wouldn't threaten Daniel Moore.
Of course, the 4x4 with the 6 foot lift kit in the front yard would also add character.
Scott I need you to list every band that played in a field in Auburn in 84/85. Thanks!
as much as I've always hated Nebraska (dating from the Orange Bowl after the 1963 season*), their fans' niceness is legendary. I've heard of more than one occasion where they've cheered other teams' efforts at the end of the half/game in Lincoln.
*Auburn had a decided statistical advantage, but ended up on the short end of a 13-7 score. I've disliked Nebraska ever since.
