HoF adjustments

Hey everyone. Periodically, we tweak our Hall of Fame (seen at right) to reflect changes in our membership. Sometimes people leave. More often, new HOTTIES arrive and make their mark.

This is the only blog that honors its most valuable posters in such a public manner. To make the list means you're valued and loved and respected by your HABOTN peers and the thousands more readers who never post.

It's quite an honor.

So here's what we're doing:

PROMOTED FROM 'NOTABLE NEWCOMERS' TO 'FEELING THE HEAT':
ehyou
digger4AU
depressedAUfan
Norm (new identity)
BinOBA
Spongeworthy
wtc
Sean
cincytiger

ADDED TO 'NOTABLE NEWCOMERS':
Aeronaut
Chocolate Scott
chip chip
coosa
Fearless Freep
wes
Jason Crawford
paulmain
Lowcountry Tiger
Craig Miller
AU1292
Loganville Tiger
IV

IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED:
cotton
Cory
vrga
dan
tigerfan44
Will
wakeriderof87
Andrew
alan (from montgomery)

Also of note:

* Congratulations to all newcomers and the newly promoted. We're glad you're here!

* I have ordered the 'Feeling The Heat' with those closest to RoF consideration, at least in my view, at the top. The only way to make it into the Ring of Fire is to be voted in by current Ring of Fire members.

* I wasn't going to place IV on the list due to his very recent debut, but a few members contacted me privately to make sure IV was included.

Scott Chocolate,

...continued from the other thread.

If you remember in the 2001 game at Vandy, Carnell Williams went 51 yards for his first career TD in that game...

And when Vandy was making their comeback Dan Stricker caught a "TD" in the back of the endzone on the open end of the stadium that he A) didn't hold on to & B) didn't land in bounds even if he held onto it.

I remember Tub losing it and running out into the endzone.

The 1993 Vandy game, if not for the goalline stand, that season is crushed.

Sorry for the repost from the last thread, but thought it might have got lost in the thread transfer shuffle. Here goes:

I worked up in the press box as the telecommunications guy with the coaches' headsets during the 2001 Vandy game and the coaches' headsets upstairs went out during the first half and then the they announced it over the loudspeaker so that the Vandy coaches would stop using their headsets as well and I just thought, "Great, now the entire stadium knows I failed at my job." Well, I didn't really, it was out of my control and it was just time for those old headsets to stop working.

Mazzone was on the field calling plays, so our offense was fine, but Lovett was up top and so it was down to Joe Whitt to call defensive plays for a little while and when asked for a playcall, all he could reply with was, "Uh...uh...base defense." Good times.

WERK - I thought I remembered that '01 game as kind of a coming out party for Caddy. Do you remember which endzone - the one closest to Memorial Gym or the other one?

WERK, that's what I thought. I was going to feel really stupid if it had happened right in front of me and I didn't remember it very well. I was in the stands in the other end zone. As mentioned previously, I had no adult beverages in the stadium due to 9/11 concerns, so can't blame anything on intoxication.

The head coach in waiting thing is very interesting. We have Trooper Taylor as assistant head coach. I wish we had Malzahn as a head coach in waiting, but since Chizik just arrived, he would be waiting a long time, hopefully.

2:49 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Michael, when I first started at Coke I had a contact at a DC who was straight off the boat from London. He is a HUGE Arsenal fan and talked to me about it literally every day. So I started keeping up and now I'm hooked.

2:49 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Michael, I've always enjoyed soccer, but really caught the bug after the 2002 World Cup and just started watching all the games I could and became a big fan of Manchester United after seeing what they stand for. So it wasn't arbitrary for me. Happened over time.

Actually spent some time living in London back in 2005 and made it up to Old Trafford (United's home stadium) for a Champions League match.

Eddie, the more I hear from Chizik, the more I am convinced that he has the personality to be a head coach. Many people make the mistake of thinking a good coordinator (i.e. Mike Dubose) will make a good head coach. The truth is that the jobs are very different. Bill Oliver is a good example of a guy I don't think had the head coach personality. Boom is another. I liked his intensity, could have done without the profanity, but wouldn't have wanted him as a head coach. I am officially a Chizik man, and the season hasn't even started.

2. I hate UAT.
3. I'm glad to see the promotions. Good people doin' good things. The fire burns brightly at HABOTN.
4. I will see my 155th Auburn football game in person on September 5.
5. My favorite road game in attendance -- although it was ugly -- was the 2004 victory over UAT to complete the perfect regular season. ElTurbo and I sat in the upper deck, made our way down toward the AU section, joining in the announcement to the Infidels that we had, in fact, just beat the hell out of them.
6. I hate UAT.
7. My favorite Auburn game I ever attended was the 1982 UAT game. I was unchained and nothing would ever be the same.

Hate is hate, but in J-H you will be amongst your family.

And this is coming from someone who will be proudly wearing my grandfather's 1920 VPI class ring that night.

Besides, one of the most enjoyable simple pleasures in the college football world is joining the cheering throng whenever the Tide is mentioned second in a score update by the J-H announcer. Especially when it's a final.

"Otis Mounds. Otis Mounds. Please report to the Auburn locker room."

We'll be fine at LB with Pybus and Herring back.

Would not rule out seeing AC or Coleman standing up either.. Think about that for a second... Makes you sort of grin don't it.? ;)

depressed, know that you are appreciated here, even if I do think you have the worst nick:)

As for people not agreeing, that is as expected. Possibly all members of the RoF that disagree with me should be removed, but it would be terribly lonely there.

I guess on my salary, I shouldn't knock Big Lots.

Tuesday Morning is a bunch of junk too (at least the one in Alabaster is).

I've never been to Whole Foods. It's one of my brother's favorite stores.

By the way, there was some ironic irony that happened recently. You have all heard about the Saban beat down of the media recently. Well, it wasn't very long ago I suggested to Jay that he post a depth chart based upon his opinion to give us an idea of where we stand. Yes, I take credit for the bonehead idea.

I know this is my third post in a row, so I won't go to four. But, the best game I ever attended was the 1989 Iron Bowl. I don't think anything will ever beat the atmosphere and having bama on our turf. Very sweet.

I would like to amend that to say,

Marc - there is no reason any Auburn fan should be at a non-Iron Bowl UA-T game, unless of course a Utah-style beatdown is 110% guaranteed.

IMHO, THT deserves a battlefield promotion for his efforts on the countdown. Besides, that will move me up a spot...

I have three Iron Bowl experiences that are all equal for me. 1989, my first year as a season ticket holder, our seats were on the front row in the end zone next to the student section. I got to give James Joseph a high five on the first touchdown.

1997--Most electric atmosphere in the 4th quarter EVER.

2003--I had to go to the game with my former boss. I hated him more than any bammer since the bahr. After Caddy's big opening run, I just grinned at him. I didn't have to speak to convey my disdain. He left right after halftime.

The Colonel was one helluva guy, truly a gentleman and a scholar. Graduated from VPI, taught in the War College at West Point during WWII, started Industrial/Systems Engineering programs at two major Universities (NC State and GA Tech), and ended his career teaching a summer course at AU.

All right, I entered this Pick"Em contest, but I am counting on you hotties walking me through the first week or so. I understand straight picks, it is the spread stuff I don't get. Does Auburn plus 32 mean that Auburn has to win by 32?

6:56 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

yep cincy, AU football just downright stunk my 4 years there. It immediately improved to Top 20 status the season after I left. I've always figured it was my fault.

6:58 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

I just signed up for the pick 'em, so it's pretty much already over

7:02 PM
Blogger Miller said...

Auburn +32 would mean right the opposite. It would mean that AU was getting 32 points, and as long as they don't lose the game by more than 32, they beat the spread.

You remember when you were a kid and you were playing a game against some weakling kid from the 'hood and you spotted him 10 from the get-go? The spread works similar.

Example:
For the LaTech/AU game... the spread is currently listed as, "AU -13.5" This means that Auburn is expected to win by 2 touchdowns. If AU wins by 14 then they beat the spread, if AU wins, but by 13 or less, then they failed to beat the spread.
So, If you pick AU to win at -13.5 and Auburn wins the game by 13 points or less, you get that pick wrong. For you to get the pick correct, AU would have to win by 14 or more.

make sense? Or confuse you more?

Wow, I have finally been able to catch my breath and the staff here at the home has gotten my heart rhythm back on track. I need to do some catching up by first of all saying Jay, there is no possible way that anyone on this blog can appreciate your creating, maintaining and continuing to make this the finest blog on the web anymore than I do. I thank you as I kowtow to your hotness. You are without exception the best. I would also like to apologize to the very deserving people who's place I took on the list. And what were those people who talked to Jay on my behalf thinking?

Digger, I did not graduate. Long story made simple, I ran out of smarts, guts and money all at the same time. I attended from fall 1957 thru spring 1959 as a co-op student, so it was not a continuous attendance at that. This remains the one thing on my life's resume that I wished I had filled in.

By your stating that you graduated in 1956 means that you are my senior by a few years. Just think, had I made it a year earlier or you finished a year latter, you could have been one of the upperclassmen that made sure I had my rat cap on. Ah, the good old days.

Lastly, and I do apologize for the length of this post, to the person that was questioning whether to stay in Atlanta for the UAT-VT game or go to our Auburn, always but always take the option to go to Auburn. God has given us only a certain amount of opportunities to go to Auburn. Always go with God's plan.

7:17 PM

Well, I must admit that I am amazed. I read a quote from Ziemba about what occurred last season. He basically said everyone basically quit, including the coaches. Typically I always stand by all the mis-statements I make, but if what he says is true, it was time for Tuberville to leave.

When a team tries to quit, it is the head coaches job to light a fire under them, including coaches. I would have expected to tell any player that wasn't putting forth effort, that if he didn't step hit up, he would need binoculars to ever see the field again. I would say something similar to coaches.

I hate to admit it, but it really does sound like the entire team went plop.

7:21 PM
Blogger IV said...

In my previous post, I was telling Digger about his maybe having been one of the upperclassmen to check to see if I had my rat cap on. Story... In those days, all Auburn freshmen had to buy and wear a rat cap until Auburn beat Alabama in any sport. I wore mine until the end of the '57 beat down of UAT in B'ham. At the end of the game, I tossed my rat cap high in the air and never saw it again. I was so tired of that thing..... What I wouldn't give to have today?

7:21 PM

Sorry, IV, but Greg found out. I was laughing so hard he asked me about it and I had to read him the string of posts.
