First Post: Wednesday of Week Four

Hey everyone. Tuesday was fun. I expected The TV People to ask Chizik about Trooper Taylor, whom Paul Finebaum portrayed as racist, but that didn't happen. I didn't ask because I don't think the ESPN clip included any untoward language -- let alone racist rhetoric.

As noted yesterday, O-A News ace Andrew Gribble went on Paul Finebaum's show yesterday and wasn't asked about Trooper Taylor. I find that odd. I also consider that confirmation that Finebaum knows the story isn't legitimate. He doesn't want to get crossed up by someone on the ground in Auburn. See what I mean?

I hope you saw last night's video. It was a funny one.

Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

Whew!!!!

I have been out of pocket for a few days. Boats? Tub? We could have used both the past few days!

My son who lives in Atlanta had MAJOR though not catastrophic damage to his home. 12 inches of rain on Sunday and Monday, on top of the prior rain that had saturated the ground, did them in. Hubby and I went to lend four helping hands.

Lots of towels , fans, blowers, dehumidifiers, wet/dry vacuums, and hydraulic cement kept the situation from being a total catastrophy. By the way, they are NOT in a flood zone. It has been crazy. They are now 312 on a list just for an appointment for someone to come and assess the damage.

They lost the entire flooring in the finished basement though most valubles were salvaged. The man cave and his Auburn "stuff" was salvaged!

They were very fortunate but many in the area were not. Lives were lost and many families homes were destroyed. I pray for those families.

The point of this post: Give every member in your family and hug and tell them how much you love them because you never know what tomorrow may bring. Just keep the faith and thank God for His blessings through it all, the good and the bad.

And finally FYI, hydraulic cement is totally amazing! It will stop a projecting stream of water. I saw it with my own eyes!!!

Sorry for the exra long post....now, what is going on in the HABOTN world? Someboy spill!

Missinit...We're a mere 15 miles from the flooding in Austell/Pwder Springs and not so bad We only got 8 in. in those 2 days. The four extra inches of rain was devastating.

For the non-Atl folks...Six Flags (near the river)@ I20 is under water. The flooding extends from Six flags for 5-10 miles to the NW up the Sweetwater Creek basin. Most every major road that Eddie could use to commute to work in Atl has been flooded.

It is strange how the rain seem to be in the northwest part of Atlanta. My brother-in law lives in Tucker and said except for some low places in some areas he saw no roads covered with water. His rain gage showed only 7.5 inches of rain for the three baad days.

10:22 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

You are right about that Hoopie, and if it's not flooded, the road has been washed away. No fun getting to Stone Mountain where I work from Villa Rica. I got home last night via almost Newnan and then up and I went to work this morning via Kennesaw.

10:23 AM

Digger- We received 18 inches of rain in my little city of Villa Rica. Lots of problems around where I live and we don't even have a major creek or waterway that would only compound it.

10:30 AM
Blogger missinit said...

Hoopie and digger,

Yes, it has indeed been crazy in Atlanta the past few days!

You, Hoopie, are actually closer to the most devasted parts than he is. It's crazy digger, my son actually lives in the Tucker area, not the area that got the 15-18 inches of rain, but he got a ton...he quit emptying the rain gauge after three times or four times. The neighborhood he lives in is very rolling and hilly, almost like the foothills in the mountains. His house is in the "valley" of the neighborhood, therefore he got the bulk of the runoff, therefore the damage.

It was really crazy with parts of the roads and interstates closed. The metro almost comes to a halt when those interstates aren't up and running.

Home Depot and Lowe's sold out of everything "water damage" related in no time.

It is a humbling experience. But we are thankful, it could have been SO much worse.

Hopefully, the roads and bridges in the ATL area which I travel from the airport to my home will be opened again (if mine were closed at all) by the time I get off the red-eye Friday morning. That'd just be icing on the cake to have to find a new route home in morning rush hour.

Of course, Ball State is 0-3.

"All I've heard is that David Letterman went there," Herring said. "That's all I know about Ball State right now."

Auburn won't be heading back to the Cotton Bowl anytime soon if I had to guess. I have a feeling the lack of tickets sold for that game along with most not wanting to be there is enough to detour the Cotton Bowl Officials from selecting us again. I froze my butt off at the Cotton Bowl vs Nebraska. I would rather be in FL in general, but I'll still take that Cotton Bowl win over the previous year's Capital One Bowl loss. Is the Cotton Bowl in the new Cowboys stadium this season? That might sway my decision about going if this prediction actually came true.

weagle- I would be surprised if ticket sales were much better. It has been so darn cold the two times we have played there in recent memory and I personally have no desire to drive to Texas, but like RK said, Florida is always fun and I will always show up, especially if I have the chance to use my annual Disney Pass.

It's always that way, we are so far under the radar and off the grid that I just assume Auburn is what is holding that college football radar up and that's why nobody ever sees us on it.

Does John Douglas get his first carry of the year?

I'll go C. Hawthorne. But I expect them all to have grabs this weekend.

How good is Tim Hawthorne? Trying to get a read from last year is unfair and impossible.

Jay G,

Your new avatar,...sweet! Back in the day it was Paul, Paul, Paul for all the teeny bopper girls....except for me.

I loved me some George Harrison then...and I still do! He was my favorite Beatle.

What is the ending music on the videos?

Darvin Adams is proof of that, not to mention Todd, not to mention, well, just about everybody.

I'd love to see PPL, Derek Winter (unless he's being RS'ed this year) and Carr get some playtime.

I just don't get the feeling PPL is going to see the field this year.

Bobby Cox announced he will retire after 2010 season. By far my favorite BB manager. I'll miss him.

so next season is Bobby's swan song...hopefully the Braves will send him off in style.

The pieces are there for Atlanta to return a strong team next year.

The starting rotation is really good. If they can add one more HR hitter in the middle of the line up. Maybe in LF to replace Anderson they should be able to compete with the Phillies.

3:49 PM
Blogger digger4au said...

I can't believe the Phillies haven't folded. Two years in a row?

3:53 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

So, what are the views of the people who felt we had no playmakers and no talent on offense last year thinking now? I do believe we had weapons last season. They were just pointed in the wrong direction.

3:58 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Think Chipper hangs it up at the same time as Bobby Cox?

WERK, I thought about putting Suzanne Tuberville on there, but I thought someone had posted that previously. Honestly, she's probably almost as well known as some of Ball State's biggest sports figures. I'd say their most successful pro sports alum would be Merv Rettenmund, former MLB player. Probably their only current pro athlete worth mentioning is Bonzi Wells.

Last year Auburn was too busy shooting themselves in the foot, thus must have been pointed down.
Woodbery has a good article on Auburn every day.

It is becoming increasingly clear what the issues were last season. Clearly it wasn't an issue with talent. It also apparently wasn't Tony Franklin. He is being very successful at MTSU. I wouldn't blame the BBQ boys either. They won a lot of games at Auburn.

The issue was very simple. When you ask Jimmy Buffett to sing opera, it might not be a good fit.

Our skill guys aren't great, but they're good. This offense gets them open and they are executing....which is great.

Great skill players make openings and plays when there is nothing to work with.

Now...we should be attracting even better talent soon.

4:16 PM
Blogger michael said...

I would argue the issue was also talent. Todd was not this Todd. I am of the belief we don't have a lot behind Todd this season. But clearly Malzahn is awesome.

Also, Puppets are perverts.

4:16 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

also puppets don't age. You people need to read your puppet manuals again

4:19 PM
Blogger michael said...

Read the Puppet manuals, memorize them, and then burn them. It is a strategic advantage for them not to know what we know about them to know what said me rat a tat tat.

4:25 PM
Blogger Norm said...

That section had been ripped from my puppet manual before I ever got my hands on it.

4:25 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

The offense wasn't the issue. Franklin has knocked off Memphis and Maryland with that same offense at MTSU. I do agree we didn't have an option at QB. Todd looked good or at least adequate in the first 3 or 4 games, but it was clear his arm wouldn't last and he wasn't a threat to throw a deep ball.

4:26 PM
Blogger michael said...

One of the puppet manuals is a cook book. If the manual makers were still alive, I would ask them why it is included in the set. Great recipes, though.

4:27 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

isn't most of the recipes how to cook human flesh?

4:30 PM
Blogger michael said...

Yeah, but the foreword tells you to substitute chicken when human flesh is not available. It is a flexible cook book.

4:32 PM
Blogger michael said...

There is also a good muffin recipe in the book.

4:35 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

even an evil, murderous, mind controlling puppet loves a good muffin

Blogger cincytiger said...

I feel like I am in the twilight zone. Are there puppets in the twilight zone?

4:44 PM
Blogger michael said...

Yeah. It is theorized that their love of muffins is why they often target humans with "muffin tops". But there are a lot of theories out there. You never really know.

4:45 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Yes, and they will cut you for a muffin, Cincy

4:48 PM

But, I am also guilty of having a muffin top, getting to be a smaller muffin top, but there none the less

4:49 PM
Blogger michael said...

cincy - can you make poison muffins? Because I have a really complicated plan that might let us kill puppets with your muffins if they have poison in them.

4:51 PM
Blogger michael said...

Steve; MTSU vs Auburn ... who wins?

4:57 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I now know what a muffin top is. That should come in handy someday.

5:00 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

MTSU isn't Auburn. MTSU doesn't have the talent of Auburn. But wins over Memphis and Maryland for MTSU are like us beating LSU and Florida.

5:01 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Steve I'm not sure I would put Maryland (who won in OT over James Madison, and lost to Cal by 39) on the same vein as us beating Florida. I think we can beat LSU anyway as it stands right now.

5:05 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

michael,
I'll have to check my recipe. My muffins are so good you would say "these muffins are to die for" does that count?

5:06 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

ahhhhhhh - muffin top

5:06 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Perhaps if your muffins were "killer"

5:06 PM
Blogger michael said...

I don't know. They are just idiomatically to die for? I will have to check my puppet manuals to see if puppets find idioms fatal.

5:20 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

MTSU isn't exactly a top college program. Memphis is their LSU.

Way to kind of bring everything into focus, Scott C. I use to work in Murfreesboro, TN; which is where MTSU is located.

5:33 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

I think chocolate is poisonous to puppets, so maybe we should add some of Scott's chocolate to the muffins.

5:34 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

cept that would be such a waste of good chocolate

5:34 PM

Used to live/work somewhat near Murfreesboro myself, Steve.

Good idea, Cincy. We'll use the same chocolate I sell to the Bammers.
