First Post: Wednesday of Week Three

Hey everyone. I hope you enjoyed yesterday's video. Us beat hacks got a kick out of Ben Tate telling some of the TV reporters to shut their mouths. It's usually us being the noise offenders, so I felt fortunate to catch them slippin' on tape. It makes for gripping cinema.

No more hating on Sensi for picking West Virginia. The HABOTN is founded on free speech. If he wants to make bad decisions unpopular choices, we should trash respect his decision.

Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

I still think the WVU players coach themselves just like they did in Bad News Bears 2: Breaking Training until William Devane shows up.

And speaking of William Devane, I thought it was funny how Mel Gibson killed him in the vastly underrated "Payback."

1:59 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Eddie, I don't make too much fuss over that defense. We ran hard against a 3-4ish scheme last weekend, I think we'll do the same this weekend. We're also fast and I daresay our O-line will dominate their defensive front.

I have been a bit concerned about West Virginia, but the more I think about it, the more I believe we will bring the pain. Tate/Fannin and a touch of Eric Smith will wear them down. Then FAH will run wild.

I like pie, chocolate cake and ice cream. I like beer too but rarely do I enjoy a beer in conjunction with the previously mentioned items.

Since Britney has been mentioned...several years ago when she and NSynch were still popular, I took my daughter to see a concert by each of them. My daughter and whatever friend went with us thoroughly enjoyed themselves each time. I however hated both shows. The only positive (aside from making my daughter happy) was watching the crowds and noting the differences between the two. At Britney, there seemed to have been an unusually high number of young men who, uh, are now probably working as interior decorators or hairdressers. These guys were literally in tears they were beside themselves so much. To steal from Michael, I most definitely laughed heartily at them. The key difference in the crowd at the NSynch concert was that oh boy I sure wished I were a single young 20ish guy.

Other than that, they both sucked.

Keep Hate Alive.

2:20 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

FAH seems to be the early game back to wear out the D, then Tate comes in after him and rumbles.

Steve loves him some Eric Smith.

2:20 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

It's really easy for this game. Their offensive line hasn't been great. Their offense has been bad about turnovers. They haven't been very efficient on offense. Our defense will be worlds better than they've seen the last two weeks.

Their defense has given up 20 points two weeks in a row to offenses not even on par with Auburn. We're also at home. The only way we lose is if we beat ourselves.

2:21 PM
Blogger Aeronaut said...

Norm

Happy birthday, dude.

2:22 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Sean, I think I read they are averaging 473 ypg on offense. WV is a good team. I just think we are better.

I do like Eric Smith. He is going to be another solid player. I hope he is the next Ben Tate, but I don't think he has the speed for that.

2:25 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Let Harry Adams follow Devine. He has the speed to keep up with him.

2:25 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Two things for this game:
If we have problems with our punt and kick teams and if we can't contain their QB if a play breaksdown, we could be in for a looong night. However if we handle our business in those areas, I think we roll. I think we can handle Mr Devine and what he brings.

2:28 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

How about this for WV, they do average 473.5 Yds/game, but get this, they average 288.5 Yds/Game thru the air and 185 Yds/Game on the ground. The passing game surprised me greatly.

2:29 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Eddie, that is why I say this WV offense is light years ahead of what we saw last season. They have usually been a run oriented team. Suddenly they have balance.

I am wondering how well our corners will do in man to man against their WRs. I love our corners, but WV has some talent.

2:32 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

As for our punt return team, just catch the friggin football and try not to tackle anyone on our team. Turnovers in the kicking game scare me more than anything else.

As for punting, no blocked punts. There is no excuse for a blocked punt.

2:34 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Also saw an intersting stat on J Brown. He rushed for 75 and 82 yards agains Liberty and ECU. That's one of the dangers.

2:34 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I think a lot of their passing is because they have had to pass. I assume it's a short quick passing game to make up for the OL's inexperience.

Plus their games haven't been run aways, so they have probably had to pass more.

2:34 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Good point tommy. I am hoping that we have a DE or LB rock his world a few times and discourage that.

2:35 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

RK, they changed offenses when RRod left. They are intentionally going to a more balanced attack. Brown isn't the runner that White was, but he is a better passer supposedly.

2:37 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Another interesting stat Last week v ECU 11 penalties for 104 yards. I hope this means they're not disciplined.

2:38 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

473 yards of offense per/game? Against an FCS and Conference USA school? Light Years? I'm having trouble here. Someone please help.

I'm not saying they aren't a good team, but I don't see how they are going to get into a "shoot out" against a team which, I hope, is vastly superior on defense compared to their previous competition.

2:51 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I expect Auburn to win on Saturday, but I think people need to stop dismissing WVU because of who they've played thus far. I've made this point before. Last year they lost to a 5-7 Colorado (maybe one of the worst teams in FBS this year) team in September and put a whoopin' on us a few weeks later. Yeah, we're a far different team than last year and that's why I expect us to win, but it's because of who we are that I expect us to win, not because of who or how they've played the first two weeks. I expect it to be a decent game.

2:51 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

I don't know if they're playing possum or not, but WVU hasn't pressed the pedal down when they got the chance to in the 2nd half. 10pts agains Liberty (they also had 7 penalties for 69 yds in that game) and only scored 14 on ECU in the 2nd half. Got behind in both games. No "killer" instinct. Perhaps they weren't using their full playbook for whatever reason. Then again they might just be soft :)

2:52 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Who said anything about dismissing them? I was just making a point that they haven't exactly been an offensive juggernaut since they opened the season. I just think people expecting a shootout are getting ahead of themselves.

2:53 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

In that case, JGT, please tell McCalebb that he will need to rush for over 207 yards against WVU to prove it.

2:54 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

I also find it interesting that a Christian University has oddly nicknamed their team the "flames". Not that there's anything wrong with that.

2:56 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Does McCalebb consider himself devine?

3:00 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Maybe people aren't dismissing them, but it seems like some are really hung up on what they did agaisnt Liberty and ECU. Michigan lost to Appy St. and beat Florida in the same season a couple of years back.

I saw the Commodores at the beautiful Garrett Coliseum in da gump once. So there.

Kathy,
Thanks for the info on the new AU tag. I'll be watching for mine.

I saw the Commodores as a student at Auburn in 1977.

Hey guys, you think root canals are tough, wait until you have a Laser TURP procedure. No fun at all. Luckily you will be about my age before that becomes necessary. If you are not familiar with the term Laser TURP, think rotor rooter.

cincy - was that you on Row 2 next to me at the Commodores concert in Auburn?

4:49 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

Might have been, THT, might have been.

4:49 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

Oooh, IV, I used to assist with those when I was a nurse in another lifetime. Not fun.

4:50 PM
Blogger IV said...

Cincy, no fun for the nurse or the patient?

4:51 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

For the patient - didn't really hurt me any :)

I was on row 1 for the Olivia Newton-John concert at Auburn. She made eye contact and I either squealed like a girl or puddled on the floor, I don't remember which.

4:52 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

But I did give lots of pain medicine and sympathy.

Blogger cincytiger said...

I know we've talked about this before - but two things I really like about this team - that they make adjustments at halftime and that they try and score even if they just have a minute or so before the half.

4:54 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

THT, I loved that Sixers team. While we're discussing concerts at AU, I will admit to seeing Neil Diamond there when I was in 4th grade.

4:56 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Concerts I've seen - too many to list here. Concerts I've seen at AU - Eagles and Pat Benatar.

4:58 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I will confess (again) to missing my first chance to see Bruce Springsteen because I didn't want another F on my 2nd chemistry test during my first qtr in college.

Hotel was a free concert at Auburn. They were fantastic.

5:02 PM
Blogger ADP said...

Very first concert I saw was Lionel Ritchie. The opening act was Tina Turner, which was her comeback tour. It was very cool to a 12 year old. Later that year I saw the Jacksons Reunion Tour show in Dallas. Even cooler to a 13 year old.

5:02 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

The biggest concert at AU when I was there was probably REM. I was about 3rd row for that one.

Yeah, Norm. If I start listing concerts, I'll have a IV-length post. :)

Blogger ADP said...

couldn't agree more Cincy. Last week I was thinking, CTT would have run out the clock and gone to the locker room.

5:04 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I've been to hundreds of concerts.

Just in the next month or so I'm seeing Buddy Guy, U2, The Allman Brothers w/Widepsread Panic & Joe Bonamassa.

5:04 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Best concert I have ever been two bar none was Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.

I've seen them 4 times and great shows each time.

My personal favorite show was Waylon at the Ryman. He was damn good.

Springsteen was at AU in Fall 1975. So Hoopie, you were one of the 1,500 that attended that concert?

5:17 PM

I saw Pearl Jam in Murfreesboro, TN around 1995 and it was a great show.

I couldn't pick my favorite concert - too much good stuff, but how about these?

U2 in Honolulu - 1985
Pink Floyd in Madrid - 1988 (in a soccer stadium)

don't know if this was mentioned here before or not...

Andrew Gribble of the O-A News wrote:

Auburn’s offensive line wasn’t informed until Tuesday that it was one of just 12 teams (seven that have played two games) to not allow a sack this season.

Hoopie, did Buffett wear an Auburn jersey at the concert in '78?

5:56 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

So, can we take it to a new page before JGT starts a new thread?

5:56 PM

I think we can.

Blogger FSJ said...

The concerts sucked at UA when I was a student. Biggest names I can remember: Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor, Alan Jackson, Reba, and Alabama for A-Day one year. I skipped most of those.

I did go to see Def Comedy Jam at Coleman though.

Bernie Mack, Chris Tucker, and some girl that was off the chain...I learned a few words from her that night.

5:58 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

SC,
What rumor can we start that would make people post?

5:58 PM

Buffett wanted veggie burgers backstage at UA.

From what I heard, he was a very nice guy.

i got to see hootie and the blowfish for $5 at "the dump" while at AU. I also saw carrottop.
i skipped the gin blossoms.

6:06 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Ooh, Carrot Top reminds me...I saw Gallagher at AU. They're roughly in the same league. People in the first several rows had to wear ponchos due to all the smashing of food.

6:09 PM
Blogger snowhare said...

I keep reading that we're 4th in overall offense, yet the stats on ESPN show us 2nd only behind FLA. Any explanations?

6:09 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Sorry, cincy. I can't post with reckless abandon until I get home from work. By then, y'all will be at 400 on the next thread.

"Same league" meaning the PLL (Pretty Lame League).

Blogger IV said...

Cincy,

You seem to be feeling better. I sure hope that you are.

6:10 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

snowhare, we are 4th in total offense behind UF, Arky & TxA&M. I'm not sure which of the latter is 2nd and which is 3rd, but each has only played one game. I don't have any of this info in front of me, so don't necessarily trust it.

6:11 PM
Blogger IV said...

come on, we can do it.
