First Post: Wednesday of Week Three
Hey everyone. I hope you enjoyed yesterday's video. Us beat hacks got a kick out of Ben Tate telling some of the TV reporters to shut their mouths. It's usually us being the noise offenders, so I felt fortunate to catch them slippin' on tape. It makes for gripping cinema.
No more hating on Sensi for picking West Virginia. The HABOTN is founded on free speech. If he wants to makebad decisions unpopular choices, we should trash respect his decision.

A shameless repost from the previous page...apologies.
I look forward to the day where I can watch a college football game without hearing about TT. It won't be this year and likely not next year either.
I thought you loved Tommy Tuberville, Steve? ;-)
LOL at Kristina's comment.
Brent Poole!!!
From 2004 till 2008 not an Auburn game went by when ESPN guys didn't mention Jetgate.
By that estimate I believe we'll be hearing about xCTT till at least 2012...when I'll be praying that the mayans were right in their 2012 prediction.
CBS's Dennis Dodd previews Auburn WV game and picks Auburn a winner in a shootout.
My Precious!!!
"It was just prior to Bowden turning the program around."
Which direction?
I'm just glad the Britney link had a link to the "Boom goes the dynamite" guy.
The wrong direction RK. It was just before we went to the Dameyune Craig offense, a precursor to the RFYLK offense.
"Boom goes the Dynamite" is classic.
I like the Wizard of Oz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMNry4PE93Y
I know I have posted it before, but it is still great: "I like Turtles"
So whattya think?
I like tuhtles
and there you are
But then, Jock Sanders says, "I'm not gonna pay a lot for this muffler!" But then Eltoro Freeman says, "Sweet Sassy Molassey! You are gonna pay a lot! And the cost is gonna be prohibitive!"
I'm just glad that zombies are going after turtles instead of brains these days.
Gotta love this Jeopardy question.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCVfWjlMSa4
Like a donkey eating a waffle.
What do you Hotties make of this Bill Stewart quote on his defense: "We're Sound, we're tough; we're resilient, but we're fast. When you go against thid defense and our guys, you better have your T's crossed and you I's dotted because they are going to get you."
What is a hoe? LOL
I still think the WVU players coach themselves just like they did in Bad News Bears 2: Breaking Training until William Devane shows up.
And speaking of William Devane, I thought it was funny how Mel Gibson killed him in the vastly underrated "Payback."
Eddie, I don't make too much fuss over that defense. We ran hard against a 3-4ish scheme last weekend, I think we'll do the same this weekend. We're also fast and I daresay our O-line will dominate their defensive front.
Resilient but fast - that's the part I'm unsure of.
Sean- Those are kinda of my thoughts as well.
(Stuff)mydadsays quote of the day:
"(Srew) Radio Shack. It's a wonder they even know how to use a bathroom and don't just walk around all day with (crap) in their pants."
I agree Tommy, but is the wrong conjunction, its almost contradictory and seeming like resilient is a bad thing.
I have been a bit concerned about West Virginia, but the more I think about it, the more I believe we will bring the pain. Tate/Fannin and a touch of Eric Smith will wear them down. Then FAH will run wild.
If McCaleb is FAH, what does that Make Devine....FTH?
I like pie, chocolate cake and ice cream. I like beer too but rarely do I enjoy a beer in conjunction with the previously mentioned items.
Since Britney has been mentioned...several years ago when she and NSynch were still popular, I took my daughter to see a concert by each of them. My daughter and whatever friend went with us thoroughly enjoyed themselves each time. I however hated both shows. The only positive (aside from making my daughter happy) was watching the crowds and noting the differences between the two. At Britney, there seemed to have been an unusually high number of young men who, uh, are now probably working as interior decorators or hairdressers. These guys were literally in tears they were beside themselves so much. To steal from Michael, I most definitely laughed heartily at them. The key difference in the crowd at the NSynch concert was that oh boy I sure wished I were a single young 20ish guy.
Other than that, they both sucked.
Keep Hate Alive.
FAH seems to be the early game back to wear out the D, then Tate comes in after him and rumbles.
Steve loves him some Eric Smith.
It's really easy for this game. Their offensive line hasn't been great. Their offense has been bad about turnovers. They haven't been very efficient on offense. Our defense will be worlds better than they've seen the last two weeks.
Their defense has given up 20 points two weeks in a row to offenses not even on par with Auburn. We're also at home. The only way we lose is if we beat ourselves.
Norm
Happy birthday, dude.
Sean, I think I read they are averaging 473 ypg on offense. WV is a good team. I just think we are better.
I do like Eric Smith. He is going to be another solid player. I hope he is the next Ben Tate, but I don't think he has the speed for that.
Let Harry Adams follow Devine. He has the speed to keep up with him.
Two things for this game:
If we have problems with our punt and kick teams and if we can't contain their QB if a play breaksdown, we could be in for a looong night. However if we handle our business in those areas, I think we roll. I think we can handle Mr Devine and what he brings.
How about this for WV, they do average 473.5 Yds/game, but get this, they average 288.5 Yds/Game thru the air and 185 Yds/Game on the ground. The passing game surprised me greatly.
Eddie, that is why I say this WV offense is light years ahead of what we saw last season. They have usually been a run oriented team. Suddenly they have balance.
I am wondering how well our corners will do in man to man against their WRs. I love our corners, but WV has some talent.
As for our punt return team, just catch the friggin football and try not to tackle anyone on our team. Turnovers in the kicking game scare me more than anything else.
As for punting, no blocked punts. There is no excuse for a blocked punt.
Also saw an intersting stat on J Brown. He rushed for 75 and 82 yards agains Liberty and ECU. That's one of the dangers.
I think a lot of their passing is because they have had to pass. I assume it's a short quick passing game to make up for the OL's inexperience.
Plus their games haven't been run aways, so they have probably had to pass more.
Good point tommy. I am hoping that we have a DE or LB rock his world a few times and discourage that.
RK, they changed offenses when RRod left. They are intentionally going to a more balanced attack. Brown isn't the runner that White was, but he is a better passer supposedly.
Another interesting stat Last week v ECU 11 penalties for 104 yards. I hope this means they're not disciplined.
473 yards of offense per/game? Against an FCS and Conference USA school? Light Years? I'm having trouble here. Someone please help.
I'm not saying they aren't a good team, but I don't see how they are going to get into a "shoot out" against a team which, I hope, is vastly superior on defense compared to their previous competition.
I do find it kind of surprising that WVU hasn't even used a back up QB in a mop up role.
Norm, I'd like to get my Happy Birthday wish for you in while there's still time.
Here's hoping you have a very HAPPY birthday, filled with HATE for UA-T.
Bill Stewart had some good things to say about Auburn.
McCallebb was highly recruited by WVU, reminds him of Devine.
They haven't been in a great situation to mop-up, WERK.
1 too many L's
We WILL win this game.
Or we will lose it, but I guarantee there will be no tie.
I think McCalebb considers himself better than Devine.
I expect Auburn to win on Saturday, but I think people need to stop dismissing WVU because of who they've played thus far. I've made this point before. Last year they lost to a 5-7 Colorado (maybe one of the worst teams in FBS this year) team in September and put a whoopin' on us a few weeks later. Yeah, we're a far different team than last year and that's why I expect us to win, but it's because of who we are that I expect us to win, not because of who or how they've played the first two weeks. I expect it to be a decent game.
I don't know if they're playing possum or not, but WVU hasn't pressed the pedal down when they got the chance to in the 2nd half. 10pts agains Liberty (they also had 7 penalties for 69 yds in that game) and only scored 14 on ECU in the 2nd half. Got behind in both games. No "killer" instinct. Perhaps they weren't using their full playbook for whatever reason. Then again they might just be soft :)
Who said anything about dismissing them? I was just making a point that they haven't exactly been an offensive juggernaut since they opened the season. I just think people expecting a shootout are getting ahead of themselves.
In that case, JGT, please tell McCalebb that he will need to rush for over 207 yards against WVU to prove it.
I also find it interesting that a Christian University has oddly nicknamed their team the "flames". Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Does McCalebb consider himself devine?
Maybe people aren't dismissing them, but it seems like some are really hung up on what they did agaisnt Liberty and ECU. Michigan lost to Appy St. and beat Florida in the same season a couple of years back.
Random fact you probably didn't know: Jill Arrington, hottest TV reporter in world history, is Dakota Fanning's aunt.
JGT - I did not know that but that is a GREAT!! update.
I don't see Jill as much as I used to which is very dissapointing.
Another random fact you probably didn't know: Jan Terri, hottest encourager of dancing goblins around, is Dakota Fanning's grandfather.
JGT you are correct ms Arrington is HOT with a capital sizzle
Cause I can
I guess people have forgotten about Jill Arrington since she left CBS.
I ate with Jill Arrington and a few other (former) beat hacks at UGA in 2004. I don't remember the meal all that well.
She didn't say much. Seemed almost shy.
Nah. Must have been in '05.
I'm more of a Erin Andrews fan, but also loved me some Jill Arrington.
What is she doing these days?
JGT ...
I'm sure J-Zhag would get her to talk ... quizzing her about cookie baking skills ... all leading up to his patented closer move: The Popcorn Spew.
Jay, confident hilarious men make women shy. That's why girls never want to talk to us. Right?
Funny Jill Arrington story that I have shared before.
Listening to a UGA game on the radio, Lorne Smith was interviewing Jill Arrington's dad who apparently played QB at a small college.
Lorne asked him "So are you down here watching the QB's or are you doing like every other guy in the stadium and watching your daughter?"
Munson immediately took back over the broadcast.
Michael, I think that's it. Yes.
I believe I've made it clear here in the past that I much prefer Jill Arrington to anyone else out there. ANYONE! If j-zhag spewed popcorn or anything else on Jill, I'd punch him right in the face.
Lorne whattya got?!
Wehll Larry - Ah lahk turtles
Don't hate the player, hate the game, hat boy.
Wow, Jay G eating with Jill Arrington!!! Dude, I got to get your autograph one of these days:)
I know I'm now Jill Arrington, Norm, but you wouldn't even switch places with me.
*no not now
My brush with greatness was when I ran into Jarad from those subway commercials in a bar up at Pinehurst.
You can run, but you can't hide from the google.
Tennis Channel’s Court Report segments with anchor Jill Arrington will also appear every hour during these programs.
Jared from Subway was in Chattanooga a few years back doing a promotional thing, and we ran into him at a downtown bar/club. It's amazing what a small bit of celebrity can get you in a small town.
Talk about going in circles. Has anyone seen this?
Crazy Dog
Been lurking this afternoon reading everyone's analysis on the WV game. So far, with all information I have been able to gather from your posts, I can say without a doubt in my mind that we are either going to win big, if we don't lose to WV big. Or possibly we win a close one if we don't lose to WV in a last second score by them.
mytommyd,
My favorite "Lorne whatdaya got" moment occured in the late 90's.
Lorne came back with a couple of lines then...
"back to you Larry"
(silence)
"Larry"
(silence)
Lorne's voice starts to get even higher pitched "Larry?"
(silence)
"Larry!!??"
Munson: "God, I'M HERE LORNE"
IV - It's kind of like my golf game. I would be under par every round if I hit them straight.
I have never hit them straight.
Yeah RK that pretty much sums up Lorne Smith right? I mean as good as Larry was, Lorne was that amount of bad. I keep thinking that I'm that master of the obvious and then Lorne whattya got. Well Larry I think the player that just got hurt on the field is hurt. Back to you Larry.
I ran into Joe Paterno in a KC hotel one morning, he was fussing about an item on his bill.
I do feel that we will win in a game where we score more than 30 and they score less than 30. I am going with AU 34 to 27.
IV I think your analysis on our comments is exactly right, unless you're wrong or if we're wrong.
~Feng
I ran into Isiah Thomas at an airport in Cleveland a month or so ago.
I gave Rick Flair and his family a hayride.
RK ... Did the ref call you for a charge or Zeke for the block? Who am I kidding? The stars always get the call. You surely picked up an offensive foul.
MyTD, what if we are both wrong?
I killed Ted Danson.
IV if both of us are wrong I don't wanna be right .... or something like that. I was gonig to say Inconceivable, but I couldn't find a picture of Vizzini quick enough.
Ted Danson is dead?
Thank you Michael.
"I gave Rick Flair and his family a hayride."
This trumps all of us.

You can't delete #300!!
Nobody kills Sam "Mayday" Malone, the womanizing recovering alcoholic bar owner and former relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.
K - I believe we've covered this before but sometimes I have memory recall issues, a sure sign of my advanced age now. But, I don't remember you requesting a seat change. If you had, I'm sure I'd have obliged as I'd already been hit and lightning never strikes in the same place. I mean, what are the odds?
I'd bet the odds of that would be like the odds of two people NOT living in Destin at the same time. Or something like that.
Sounds like it is code for something.
The hayride that is
Wait a second... no wait, apparently he survived according to the internets. Dang it. I made that old villain mistake where I don't stick around to see my inordinately complicated death machine destroy Ted Danson (and his dachshund). I assumed, hey, they're tied up, where are they going to go?
Next time I'll get you Danson! NEXT TIME!!!
Let the record show mytommyd said "I didn't even know he was sick" at post 300 and then banhammerbated himself.
Sorry bout that AU1 - but my comment was less coherent than the previous ones.
In the last 6 weeks or so in my travels to and from L.A.; I have shared a plane with and met Dr. J, shared a plane but did not meet Ludacris, Darryl Hannah, Al Sharpton and someone else earlier but I can't remember.
Norm ...
Actually, when you excused yourself at the intermission, K moved over toward me in a desperate attempt to get of the war zone.
OK, that's not true. J-Zhag wanted to talk to me, so he hip checked K down the row, smashing her into me, and sandwiching her in between. She was probably cussing her husband under breath for allowing her to leave with such lunatics.
But, hey, J-Zhag's a HABOTNista. What'd you expect?
Apology accepted for self policing.
Is there anyone else a bit freaked out by the recent Beatles stuff coming about. Beatles Rock Band and evidently a new album
not the best day I've ever had but then I remember AU's 2-0 and I smile....

Wartiger - you once, twice, three times...
It was a GREAT hayride by the way.
Those deletions weren't me btw
that's been my day..sheesh..
Happy Birthday Norm!
echo
No, Norm, you remember wrong. I know I asked if you wanted to switch places and you very quickly said "No."
But it's fine...popcorn aside, he's quite entertaining in an insane sort of way.
I did it...I don't know why it posted thrice but it all makes sense in someones world..
K - you may be right, I may be crazy. Someone out there probably enjoys root canals too.
WooHoo!!! Root Canals!!!
I love Woot Canals!
I love going to multi-level marketing meetings and timeshare sales presentations.
I have actually had a couple root canals and they aren't all that bad.
I was chatting up a pretty young lady at an arcade in Mexico Beach, FL. She says "There's my dad to pick me up". Up pulls a gold Mercedes and out steps Rick Flair. It...was...awesome!!
Was said pretty daughter with him on the hayride TommyD?
I'm taking it to the house chirrens. Once there, I expect to be waited on hand and foot by my family. This is what I expect. Sadly, I'm usually disappointed in life. I've gotten used to it. Thanks again for the birthday wishes.
Check ya later.
I didn't have a clue who dakota fanning was. I thought he (well, now I know it's a she) was a QB somewhere.
It's great to learn, cuz knowledge is powah!
OK... I wasn't gonna say anything but you guys are driving me crazy... any old school wrasslin fan will know it is Ric Flair, not RicK Flair! Thanks.
Kristeeenghi, I know it was bothering you too.
West Virginia's defense has 4 players on the Lombardi Award watch list. Pretty impressive.

Dangit Dangit Dangit - I am TRULY TRULY sorry for this.
It wasn't Ric Flair, it was Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorf.
My apologies to all
My goodness. mytommyd, if there ever was a time to banhammerbate, it is now.
Miles Brand, NCAA president, passed today.
*Myles*
How's that Michael? And btw Orndorff with two f's
re: root canals...
It ain't that pretty at all.
Brand passing away is sad. Anyone that fires Bobby Knight deserves respect.
Just watched Durst getting his punt blocked. It would really be great if we could make it through the West Virginia game without getting our punter killed.
HABOTN has 31 on the no-fly list.
Now, that's impressive.
Norm, though, keeps beating the system.
nobody wanted to run with the Zevon reference? Where are all my Zevon fans?
You know, I just had a short vacation, Roy
Spent it getting a root canal
"Oh, how'd you like it?"
Well, it ain't that pretty at all
So I'm going to hurl myself against the wall
'Cause I'd rather feel bad than not feel anything at all
"It wasn't Ric Flair, it was Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorf."
You just went from having the best story ever to just some guy.
Them's the breaks.
As far as root canals go. I've had one. I don't see the big fuss.
My younger sister-in-law used to play with Ric Flair's kids at his mansion.
I met Dr. J once in Savannah. I loved the Sixers when they had the Doc, Bobby Jones, Caldwell Jones, Mo Cheek, Birminghamian Andrew Toney, Moses (and Chocolate Thunder before him), Lionel Hollins, etc etc
I thought it hilarious that Todd actually went in motion and Burns faked the handoff to him. Oh yea, that is what opponents fear, Todzilla running the ball.
I liked it when The Commodores had Lionel Richie.
I saw the Commodores at the beautiful Garrett Coliseum in da gump once. So there.
Kathy,
Thanks for the info on the new AU tag. I'll be watching for mine.
I saw the Commodores as a student at Auburn in 1977.
I smell delicious baked goods.
I wish I could smell.
Finebaum is having a show on E.D.
WTH
Hey guys, you think root canals are tough, wait until you have a Laser TURP procedure. No fun at all. Luckily you will be about my age before that becomes necessary. If you are not familiar with the term Laser TURP, think rotor rooter.
cincy - was that you on Row 2 next to me at the Commodores concert in Auburn?
Might have been, THT, might have been.
Oooh, IV, I used to assist with those when I was a nurse in another lifetime. Not fun.
Cincy, no fun for the nurse or the patient?
For the patient - didn't really hurt me any :)
I was on row 1 for the Olivia Newton-John concert at Auburn. She made eye contact and I either squealed like a girl or puddled on the floor, I don't remember which.
But I did give lots of pain medicine and sympathy.
I know we've talked about this before - but two things I really like about this team - that they make adjustments at halftime and that they try and score even if they just have a minute or so before the half.
THT, I loved that Sixers team. While we're discussing concerts at AU, I will admit to seeing Neil Diamond there when I was in 4th grade.
Concerts I've seen - too many to list here. Concerts I've seen at AU - Eagles and Pat Benatar.
I will confess (again) to missing my first chance to see Bruce Springsteen because I didn't want another F on my 2nd chemistry test during my first qtr in college.
Hotel was a free concert at Auburn. They were fantastic.
Very first concert I saw was Lionel Ritchie. The opening act was Tina Turner, which was her comeback tour. It was very cool to a 12 year old. Later that year I saw the Jacksons Reunion Tour show in Dallas. Even cooler to a 13 year old.
The biggest concert at AU when I was there was probably REM. I was about 3rd row for that one.
Yeah, Norm. If I start listing concerts, I'll have a IV-length post. :)
couldn't agree more Cincy. Last week I was thinking, CTT would have run out the clock and gone to the locker room.
I've been to hundreds of concerts.
Just in the next month or so I'm seeing Buddy Guy, U2, The Allman Brothers w/Widepsread Panic & Joe Bonamassa.
Best concert I have ever been two bar none was Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.
I've seen them 4 times and great shows each time.
My personal favorite show was Waylon at the Ryman. He was damn good.
Best concert - hmmm... Pearl Jam, 1999 is what I will go with.
Saw Springsteen in 76? @ AU and Buffet in 78?
Springsteen was at AU in Fall 1975. So Hoopie, you were one of the 1,500 that attended that concert?
I saw Pearl Jam in Murfreesboro, TN around 1995 and it was a great show.
Nothin' like an IV lengther Scott Choc.
I couldn't pick my favorite concert - too much good stuff, but how about these?
U2 in Honolulu - 1985
Pink Floyd in Madrid - 1988 (in a soccer stadium)
Just kiddin' with ya, IV. Your posts are always worth reading (well, except maybe the one you just posted)...;)
about the last one
don't know if this was mentioned here before or not...
Andrew Gribble of the O-A News wrote:
Auburn’s offensive line wasn’t informed until Tuesday that it was one of just 12 teams (seven that have played two games) to not allow a sack this season.
NO DROPS (sacks)
Hoopie, did Buffett wear an Auburn jersey at the concert in '78?
So, can we take it to a new page before JGT starts a new thread?
I think we can.
The concerts sucked at UA when I was a student. Biggest names I can remember: Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor, Alan Jackson, Reba, and Alabama for A-Day one year. I skipped most of those.
I did go to see Def Comedy Jam at Coleman though.
Bernie Mack, Chris Tucker, and some girl that was off the chain...I learned a few words from her that night.
SC,
What rumor can we start that would make people post?
Buffett wanted veggie burgers backstage at UA.
From what I heard, he was a very nice guy.
FSJ,
Did Buffett wear an Auburn jersey when he played at UA?
i got to see hootie and the blowfish for $5 at "the dump" while at AU. I also saw carrottop.
i skipped the gin blossoms.
Ooh, Carrot Top reminds me...I saw Gallagher at AU. They're roughly in the same league. People in the first several rows had to wear ponchos due to all the smashing of food.
I keep reading that we're 4th in overall offense, yet the stats on ESPN show us 2nd only behind FLA. Any explanations?
Sorry, cincy. I can't post with reckless abandon until I get home from work. By then, y'all will be at 400 on the next thread.
"Same league" meaning the PLL (Pretty Lame League).
Cincy,
You seem to be feeling better. I sure hope that you are.
snowhare, we are 4th in total offense behind UF, Arky & TxA&M. I'm not sure which of the latter is 2nd and which is 3rd, but each has only played one game. I don't have any of this info in front of me, so don't necessarily trust it.
come on, we can do it.
Hey, IV - what's your AU graduation year? You and my dad have to have overlapped some.
IV,
Drugs are wonderful things :)
Here we go....
There we went...
