Talking and listening on a Thursday night

Hey everyone. We're doing two things tonight:

a.) Listening to Tiger Talk.

b.) Watching Clemson @ Georgia Tech on the tube. Or LCD. Or plasma.

Please participate in the comments section.

FROM TIGER TALK
  • On the week: ``It was business as usual. I'm really proud of the way they practiced."

  • On Tiger Walk: ``I was getting in the moment with the fans."

  • On Eric Smith's situation: ``Eric Smith will be playing Saturday night. We've moved on. We're proud ot have him back. I assure you that he's a better Auburn man now than he was three weeks ago."

  • On assistant coaches continuing to participate in Tiger Walk: "I want them to be a part of the whole thing. That's one of the things that makes Auburn great. They ate that up. They had a great time."

  • On handling blowout wins: ``We're never going to run the score up on people. That's not us."

  • On Eltoro Freeman's situation: ``We're really hoping he can play Saturday. It's been one of those situations where he has looked close. There's a fine line. We don't want to lose him for another three weeks. We have to have caution."

  • On Anthony Gulley: "He's one of those guys we're trying to get prepared week by week. He was a little big-eyed (returning punts). You're going to see him play more and more."

  • On getting 556 yards against Louisiana Tech: ``It is exciting. That's where we're starting and we're hoping to build on that every week."

  • Chizik said TE Tommy Trott played 77 of the team's 79 snaps last week.

  • Auburn is working under the assumption that Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, the former Florida offensive czar, will run the same schemes he ran at UF and Utah. They're not expecting major tweaks based on Mullen's lack of Utah- and Florida-caliber players.

  • On the number of plays Auburn wants to run each week: ``In a perfect world, we run 90 to 95 plays in a game. We want to lead the country. The pace matters."

  • On Derek Winter: ``Derek Winter is playing. He played some Saturday -- more in a special-teams role. He was out there."

  • On Mario Fannin's running habits: ``He needs to do a little bit better job (of running north-south). He's going to get his touches because he's such a great athlete."

  • On Onterio McCalebb: ``I really want to tempter the expectations. I want him to stay humble and keep working. That's how he got where he is. We just have to keep him honest and keep him working."

Clemson is putting on an exhibition...

7:16 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I said in the other thread, I'll say it here. GT is best in the ACC. They look good. I felt that way before the season and nothing is changing that perception right now.

7:17 PM
Blogger Miller said...

Umm.... Is Clemson playing like this because of the purple unis?

Clemson is either REALLY bad, or GT is pretty dang good... or both. I say both.

7:18 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm guessing the scout team didn't run it as well as GT is doing

7:18 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

I don't know how you can tell...Clemson isn't even putting up a fight.

7:18 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I don't know if GT looks good or if Clemson is pulling of the best self-destruction skit of the season.

Paul Johnson is a heckuva coach btw..

I was very afraid that someone in the SEC would hire him.

clemson is always such a disappointment...it bothers me when folks call it "the other auburn". what an insult.

nope, that one is GT's ball

7:20 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Can GT's offense work in the SEC, though?

7:21 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

that's the thought I was having JGT. And my answer is, no.

7:21 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

People wondered whether Florida's would work too.

With the right talent he would win anywhere.

7:22 PM
Blogger Storm said...

anyone have a link for tiger talk

7:23 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

with the right talent he wouldn't have to run that offense

7:23 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Jay G- I believe Johnson's offense can work in the sec just fine with the right athletes, provided he is the only one running that type of offense.

7:23 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Hideous coaching decision.

Don't burn the timeout, take the 5 yard penalty, and punt the ball.

Instead, you pooch it without your normal coverage, and you get torched.

I've never understood why coaches so quickly use the timeout there.

7:23 PM
Blogger Howard said...

No tiger talk for me (dangit), but now that clempsun is down by a few, the c0ck$ fans are coming out of the woodwork. I'm amazed at the reaction of the fans of a team that barely eaked out a win against a middle-o-the-road acc team. Yes, this assumes that Ga Tech is good.

Is it Saturday yet?

7:40 PM

Jay, I have heard that the coaches like Trott's blocking. Is that true?

7:44 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Interesting comment about the offense, JGT. He wants to "build on" the 556 yards every week but he doesn't want to run the score up. I don't know that you can commit 100% effort to both goals.

3. We hope to have the static issues cleared up for all the HOTTIES listening on the interwebs.

Hey Monica - I gotta go to Brewton Saturday, and my kids are gonna meet us there to eat lunch. I've never been to Brewton - got a suggestion on where to eat?

Thanks

I think the media loved him because he afforded them lots of access. That doesn't translate into him being entertaining on camera. Especially when put in the position of offering commentary, opinion, etc.

Just my opinion. He might end up being fantastic, but I don't think so.
