Thursday night chatter

Hey everyone. I won't be able to make our usual Thursday Night Live session again (that's two in a row), so it's up to you to make it special.

Good game tonight: Cincinnati at South Florida. (USF fans pictured)

Please enjoy and be safe in these treacherous times.

Scott, everyone that has turned that game on tonight has commented about his girth! Unfortunately, my cable provider doesn't offer that channel.

I noticed it in his pictures on the Times Daily's website before the season, but he's eaten more short people since then.

Apparently he likes the restaurants here in Flo-town.

Scott Coats,
I grew up in Florence. Have you lived there long?

10:12 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I don't remember Flotown being that great for food, but tater tot disagrees.

10:12 PM
Blogger Scott Coats said...

It's ok. Unless you like chain restaurants. Then it's great.

Doesn't the Shoals area have some good 'cue, and some famous ice cream place?

I grew up in Florence, too. Nice place, but Idon't regret leaving.

I've lived here 25 of my 35 years.

I left for a while, but family brought me back. It's a great place to raise kids.

I'm sure the good people of Florence don't either PF. Their daughters are safe again.

Jet, There are a few good BBQ places. And Trowbridges is about as famous as ice cream gets around here

10:17 PM

Ehyou...

Sadly, the Gump area offerings aren't up to snuff.

10:19 PM

Strangely enough, I've always thought Montgomery was lacking in good barbecue. There's a few good places, but nothing to make you lose your mind.

10:20 PM

I bet there's some rocking BBQ on the southside. I also bet you won't be finding it.

Scott Coats,

What high school did you go to? And do you have a sister whose name starts with a B?

10:27 PM
Blogger j-z said...

Laney's on Minter Ave near the Bush Hog plant. The large pork sandwich consists of two slices of white bread on bottom to soak the sauce up, a double handful of chopped pork, a Carolina style red sauce, a slice of freshly fried pork skin, and a slice of white bread on top. Foodgasmic.

10:27 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Most of the places have gone to these commercial smokers that are powered by electricity or gas. It makes for consistent BBQ...consistently bland BBQ.

I went to Bradshaw. Class of '92. and no, I do not.

10:28 PM

Anybody ever had any good bbq in Dillard, GA???

My brother has a shack there. Ribs, brisket, pork, and smoked turkey. His BBQ is awesome....but then I am prejudiced!!!

10:29 PM

I went to Bradshaw also, class of 1977. I'm old! I had a friend Becky Coats at Bradshaw. Kind of sad Bradshaw no longer exists.

on HWY 441, a little red shack on the side of the road. Tomlin's BBQ.

He and his wife run it, a two man show.

They are big in KCBS. They are in charge of the Dillard BBQ and Bluegrass Festival held the first weekend of every August. There are usually 90-100 entries from all over.

10:36 PM

Missinit ...

Thanks.

I'm a huge fan of bbq brisket. Texas does it the best, but I really need sauce and TX sucks at sauce.

10:37 PM

If you are ever in Red Bay, AL, go to Swamp John's Catfish. It is in an old gas station. You can stop by the Coon Dog Cemetery on the way.

By the way, they have three sauces they sell but Tomlin's Vinegar is to die for, seriously!

My hubby went to Edgemont UMC. We both grew up there. My parents moved to St. Louis and then moved back to the area about 19 years ago. They bought a antebellum home out in Cherokee and ran a Bed & Breakfast for awhile, just off of the Natchez Trace. No longer doing that, but still live there. I bet we know some of the same people.

Snacks,

Dillard is in northeast Ga right before you get to the NC line on US 441.

I sell it for them over here in east Ga but they sell it online too at tomlinbbq.com

It my favorite vinegar sauce ever!

Faker,

They started by putting on the festival every year. Think they are working on the 14 or 15th year.

Then got hooked and started judging and now they compete from November thru April.

Cincy,
I think a lot of locals will be at the Auburn high school game tonight. Undefeated Auburn High vs undefeated Central.

Otherwise, I would like to see the HR Derby.

Perhaps we can play Emeril at linebacker.

BAM!

I wish I knew then waht I know now. I happened to be at the Auburn BBQ competition as a buddy of mine is a judge. Found out though if you're not cooking, it's tough to get a taste. However, we mosied around earlier that night before the rains set in, and got some bacon wrapped scallops that were just unreal!! Didn't expect THAT at a bbq competition.

Thanks for all the barbecue talk gang. War Eagle! Happy Friday!
