This page needs turned.
And it was apparently.
FSJ...I think 93-97 was a second golden age in general for the Iron Bowl. All really good games that just about went the distance.
I knew someone would come thru in Norm's absence.
Yeah E-Bro...
I was at all of those except the 97 game.
They were all great. Stallings about cost us the 94 game by shutting Homer Smith's offense down after we went up 21-0.
I've seen two golden ages for IB:
1954-58 and 2002-2007.
The Golden Age was 1970, 72, 82-83, 96-89, 93, 95, 97, 2000, 2002-07, and on this issue, as Norm would quote Poppy, there cana be no debate.
Jet - of course there's room for debate. How on earth can you leave out Connie Frederick's run in 69? Talk about golden!!!
Does 1972 count as a Golden Age?

Luv,
did you see me shooting tiger walk video up on the train tracks? Hope I didn't almost knock you over.
PF, I didn't see anyone up there with a video camera.
i agree with THT's golden ages of the Iron Bowl.
thus, it shall be.
Jet and Tar Heel, your comments about Trott, Ziemba, McCain and the bus were hysterical!
I still have anger issues over the 1994 game and the ref's spot on Sanders catch for a first down that got moved back a yard.
There has been 28 great Iron Bowls 38 yuck, sorry Iron Bowls and 1 pffffftttt.
E-Bro - golden or not, Dec 2, 1972, counts as one of the top 10 best days of my life, even though I wasn't there to see it.
WERK - I can't honestly recall an IB where ref calls played a big part in us winning. But I know of several where ref calls played a huge role in UA-T winning.
FSJ - what's your take on this, seeing as how you aren't handicapped by my orange shades?
I wasn't there either THT and it wasn't on TV but I have watched the replay many many times and still ge a thrill every time I watch it.
THT...had I been of this world then, I'm sure it would have been the same with me.
1989 didn't suck, either.
that's in the Top 10, too.
ok, fine. Like Michael and his zero tolerance policy for idiots, I haven't really ranked the "Top 10 days of my life." But if I did, '72 and '89 Iron Bowls would probably be there. I know '72 would, just for the unexplained knowledge of waking up that morning with 100% certainty that AU was going to win.
does anyone doubt that UA-T's defense will combine with Mark Ingram to make Ben Tate look like a complete fool for what he said last week?
THT...I cringed pretty badly as soon as I read that from Ben during the game on Saturday.
I just thought to myself, there goes the rest of Ben's season. No reason for him to say that, especially since we weren't even playing Bama.
Still, he's had a great year. Maybe he can conjure up something special next week.
THT, I am pretty sure Tate will run amok over Alabama's D. Don't worry about it.
Who expected us to lose in 1989?
For cryin' out loud, Bill Curry was on the other sideline.
Sheesh.
I was only 98% certain about the '89 Iron Bowl.
I LOVE BILL CURRY.
FSJ...who's frowned upon more, Ears Whitworth or Bill Curry?
Bill Curry was not a bad coach.....
now if you had said Ears Whitworth I would have to agree...that may be before your time.
Ben needs to hurry and take the OL to the steak house for that dinner .....he's gonna need their best effort.
Nevah ..nevah ..nevah provide IB bulletin board material for Bama.
Bobby Ross and Gene Stallings won MNC's with Curry's players.
Curry never won enough with Curry's players.
As a senior Ben should know better.
You never ever give Bammer bulletin Board material. Not even when they are suppose to win by 100 gazillion points.
Is Mark Richt a modern day Bill Curry?
Did Bill Curry raise a dormant program out of the ashes into respectability?
Bill Curry did not fare as well at Ga. Teck or Kentucky
But at Ala he went
1987 7-5
1988 9-3
1989 10-22
FIRED 0 wins against Auburn
I think we would be happy with that record with Gene except for 0 wins agaisnt Bama.
10 -2 don't know how that happened
Bill Curry = 6 winning seasons in 17 seasons as a head coach.
Three of them at UAT where Michael and three of goats could have done the same.
A nice man. A bad coach.
Mark Richt...a nice man AND a good coach. Maybe not a great coach, but a good coach.
Me and three of my goats would actually make a pretty good coaching staff... as long as you let me pick the three. Jeppy, Stromfellows, and Sergeant Jasper would be my picks. If you stick Buckle-thweet on the staff though, we might be in some trouble.
Michael,
Can I get a Stromfellows Towel?
Stormfellows probably ate all the towels
MJT, can any of your goats play linebacker or DB? I'd like to see some horn-to-helmet tackles a week from Friday. I'll bet they could also do some damage in the pile.
ok, I'm heading out to try my new expen$ive tooth on a Sutton's Drug Store bacon cheeseburger and fries. To be washed down with a fountain diet cherry coke.
WARRRRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!
THT..
The 95 game hinged on the refs ruling Curtis Brown out of bounds at the end.
E-Bro...
Curry by folks of my generation..
I'll never forget losing to Ole Miss on homecoming in 1988 and not completing a single pass.
Also the 1982 game hinged on Castille being called for interference on a pass interception which led to Bo over the top I believe.
THT...
I finally read Ben's comments. Like E-Bro, I was a bit surprised because there was no reason to go there.
FSJ ...
Fat Freddie should have thrown the ball a half-second earlier, and Jeremiah shouldn't have interfered.
Wonder how those calls would go in 2009?
Ha.
Well Jet..I'd take my chances with instant replay on the 1995 one.
As for Castille...idk if it was interference or not but he made a helluva play to intercept the pass.

After all the crap you spewed ebery time someone would mention calls from the LSU/Bama game, you're gonna pull something out like that years after the fact and say that game depended on one call?
Uh Peter...
The guy caught the ball with seconds left in the game. Had he been ruled in bounds Alabama wins.
Pretty simple to say the game hinged on that call, IMO.
And for the record I was answering a direct question from THT.
Lighten up.
I'll lighten up when Bammers are stricken from the earth...
Peter,
Bama has never lost an Iron Bowl.
Don't you know that by now?
;-)
Exactly Mr. Sensible..
Time just ran out.
I take it Curry's record at Bama would not be satisfactory for Cizik at Auburn because of Curry's record elswhere. Chizik better start looking for emploment elsewhere looking at his record before coming to Auburn.
digger,
Curry's propensity to blow some games at Alabama (Ole Miss, Memphis) combined with his inability to beat Auburn did him in.
The fact that he was an arrogant jerk that liked to talk about doing things the right way (i.e. academics) but looked the other way was only one more strike against him.

Curry is not loved by the Bama nation.
That's not news.
BTW, Amen brother Snacks. So I am late with that comment. I have been away and am just now catching up. Sic 'um Snacks.
Lots of good Iron Bowl highlights here:

FSJ - thanks for your reply.
PF - I look forward to the day you get to lighten up ;-)
