Demond Washington collects

Hey everyone. Your favorite return man has been named the SEC's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Here is the bulletin straight from SEC headquarters, though his hometown (Tallassee) has been shanked:

DEMOND WASHINGTON

Defensive Back/Return Specialist
5-9 • 185 • Junior
Tallassee, Fla. (HS/Miss. Gulf Coast CC)

• Washington accounted for a school record 202 kickoff return yards and 229 total return yards for Auburn in a 31-24 loss at Georgia.

• Following a Georgia TD early in the fourth quarter, Washington returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to tie the score at 24-24. The return was the sixth longest in school history.

• The 202 kickoff return yards and the 229 total return yards were both the fourth most in SEC single-game history.

• His 40.4 kickoff return average (5 KOR) is the second-best in SEC history for a single game (min. 4 returns).

I am getting more and more interested in this next recruiting class as the season draws to an end. As I stated yesterday, I can't decide if this year will be good or bad for recruiting. On one hand, a recruit can say Auburn is a place I can go and get early playing time. Then again, a recruit could say, "I don't want to go to a school that is not quite ready to compete for conference and National championships. Does anyone have thoughts on the subject?

we are getting top recruits recruiting for AU this year which happened some before, but not to this extent. the high profile guys tubs stayed in the mix for until the end chose to go elsewhere the last 2-3 years leaving him taking a ppl or derek winter on signing day. our new coaches also have connections outside MS, AL, GA, FL & LA so the talent pool it bigger than previous years. i expect us to work TX and the CA juco ranks pretty good the next few years. we should be very optimistic if they recruit like this for the next few years. if we get the two GA dlinemen we are after, and the safety from TX and seastrunk and/or lattimore. you are looking at a top 5 class or better.

right now, AU has commits from the top players in each of these states: AR, MS, LA

seastrunk may be top in TX and lattimore is top in SC.

No Eddie, there was apparently something wrong. They were all pulled off on the side of the road, and it was the Auburn black Ford expedition leading the way. One of the buses was a little further back, so I don't know if something had happened to it. There were a lot of police there.

1:28 PM

wtc, I saw him in come in on one play after I had commented that he hadn't played at all.

1:30 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Kathy- It probably was a player that needed fluids. It happens from time to time that the buses will pull over to allow a trainer to either put an IV in or attend to a player that probably is cramping up badly after the game. That is more than likely what happened. The buses do not stop unless it is medical.

1:31 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I saw ESmith in the game numerous times and his uni was dirtier than warmups could cause.

1:32 PM
Blogger Jet said...

I understand the medical issue was with Trott. The doctors thought he was having a seizure, but it was only his hands locking into holding position. After an IV and a 10 yard penalty to the back of the bus, Trott was fine and the trip home continued without further delay.

1:33 PM
Blogger IV said...

I am in agreement with everything you said about the recruiting effort so far by these coaches and yes we have some good looking commitments. With wins over Mississippi State and South Carolina, Alabama and Florida marked back-to-back 10-win seasons this weekend as they take one step closer to another epic showdown in the SEC Championship Game December 5.

It is the first time Alabama's Nick Saban has accomplished this feat, but the 17th time the Crimson Tide have gone 10-0 in a season. The last time they notched back to back 10 win seasons was the 1991-1992 campaigns under beloved former coach Gene Stallings.

For the Gators and Urban Meyer, 10 win seasons have become a thing of the present, though Florida has notched several in it's ballyhood existence though Meyer has accomplished this feat twice at two different schools (Utah in 2003, 2004 and Florida 2008, 2009).

The SEC Championship Game will be the seventh time these two schools have faced one another for the crown and the fourth occurrence where the winner will gain a shot at a national championship via the bowl game award.

It should come as little surprise to the informed SEC football fan that this probably won't be the last time you watch Florida and Alabama play for it all at the end of the year.

Both teams are loaded with talent. Both feature coaches known as ardent recruiters and master tacticians on his side of the ball (Saban - defense, Meyer - offense). Both programs have above average facilities, fervent support from the fan base, and a boatload of momentum to boot.

Each team has a traditional late season tune up game and an in-state rivalry game to wade through before locking up for the SEC crown, but none of the obstacles in the way pose any serious threat.

The SEC is littered with "name" coaches and star players (check any NFL roster for the multiple SEC ties), but the dynasties building at Alabama and Florida are not the kind of things that are here today and gone tomorrow. The infrastructure of both programs is set up in such a way to allow both teams to dominate respective sides of the conference for the next decade.

Alabama and Florida may not meet every single year for the championship, but the conversation starts with both programs when the topic is discussed.

FSJ ...just to be serious for a moment. In todays fast-changing, media exaggerated, info influenced world... yes things can turn around very fast, for the good or bad.

Just curious..

One more thing, has anyone read this article from Ray Ratto in the SF Chronicle describing the Carroll/Harbaugh non-handshake after the USC-Stanford game? This guy is hilarious.

Guys, don't be gloomy about the pending contest with Abbalama (yes, Abbalama).

See, if we win, we enjoy the obscene pleasure of crushing their will to live. Their single reason for existence, you understand.

If we lose, we'll enjoy the obscene pleasure of hating Bammer even more!

Either outcome will be obscene. And pleasureable.

FSJ - we see a fair amount of the Clubhouse on my tv. We also see a crazy amount of some new show (Fresh Beat Band) on Nick Jr. Every one of those songs are stuck in my head.

The only reason I could think of going to the Iron Bowl is the fact I hate my inlaws more than I hate watching Alabama wipe our butt.

Just kidding. We have moved Thanksgiving up though to allow for easier travel.

I didn't realize Harry Adams was off the team. When did that happen?

FAH (Fast as Hell) is Onterrio McCalebb

3:44 PM
Blogger Howard said...

I shall be watching from the comfort of my living room (dangit). No travel for us this year - it's been way too crazy a fall.

So, I for one am completely on board with Reynolds' explanation of the outcome as a) beating bammer when they need it the most or b) hating more. I'll take "a", but I'll take being an Auburn Tiger over the alternative any day.

3:45 PM
Blogger michael said...

FAH = Fast As Hell = Ontario McIrishman

I would say that McIrishman without the bum ankle looked faster than anyone else on the team.

Harry Adams played against Arkansas. I don't seen him playing any since then. Anyone know the story here?

So, a man comes to you with a black box, inside of which is a red button. He says "for everytime you push the button, you will receive $1m, and some bammer fan, somewhere in the world will die". So begs the question, how rich will I be before they run out of fans?

Sounds like a great movie to me.

JGT & Ephemeral - thanks for your replies to my queries.

I'm buried at work and I blame UA-T. I hate that school!!!

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I was kidding, FSJ. I could never press that button under those circumstances. Now, if the button caused UA-T campus to be swallowed into the center of the earth and all records of its existence smitten from the history books, then yeah, I'm jumping all over that button.

5:02 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Thanks THT...I don't like my odds with the button..

As the most visible bammer here...I may move to the front of the list.
