Just heard a phone interview with Pete Thamel on ESPN. He says that the delegation of Orange Julias went to a BYRNES HIGH SCHOOL game in South Carolina, which is located more than 200 miles from the Knoxville campus (-- probably causing the ankle bracelets that some were wearing to start beeping.)

Thamel said that Byrnes has a several college prospects (including one in which we have a serious interest) attracts plenty of coaches (like South Carolina, Auburn, UAT, Florida, etc.) for each game.

The Orange Julias probably stood out in a crowd, he offered.

Interesting that Gran and Wilson high-tail it out the door to not-so-settled situations.

I say, "For whom the bus cranks Lane Kiffin? It cranks for thee."

It's OK if you leave Layla behind.

10:18 AM

Jet I am reminded of the sign in the UT lockerroom that the players touch before they run on the field. It says something like...

"I will give my all for Tennessee today."

I wonder how far the Orange Julias went beyond the call of duty? And if so were they directed or compensated in any way by the athletic department or boosters?

RK, I have seen it in several places. I think Andy Bitter had a link to a story. It clearly says Brian Kelly is the front runner.

I can't see Saban go anywhere. When you have the entire mullet nation bending over and grabbing their ankles for him, there is no need for a move. I doubt he would be a strong candidate at ND or that it is the environment he would want to be in. Texas A&M would be more like where I see him going, although their present coach is doing fine.

I am not sure I buy all the talk of him to Miami that has occurred in the past, either. I don't think that is the type of environment he is looking for at this stage of his career.

Other possibilities would have been Georgia Tech.

Awesome archive comment on my thoughts on Del Rio. I had forgotten about that.

After further evaluation, I don't think Jack of the River would be very good in college. I've since learned that he's had a pretty active role in personell over the last few years, and over that same time period, the Jaguars talent level has decreased considerably, especially on the defensive side of the ball, which is supposed to be his forte. He'd likely suck bad as a college recruiter if he is that bad at evaluating NFL talent.

I'm serious, Tubs to ND isn't that big of a stretch. I bet North Dakota would fire their whole staff right now to bring him in.

Blogger E-Bro said...

Where'd you see that Bro?

2:22 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

ND is I-AA, which means Tubs wouldn't have to worry about getting screwed out of an opportunity for a real championship. Unless of course, he has that 8-4 record and is on the bubble.

Here is the website for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

They do great work and provide a great deal of hope to youngsters (and parents) living with this terrible disease.

Rivals. There will be a story shortly on it. He has set his official visit to the Plains this weekend. Sounds good.

how about Tater Tot to the golden dome and Tubs to UNA?

I didn't think so,either

While we are at it...what about Tater Tot to ND...Tubs to UNA...DuBose to A&M..& Shula to Cincinatti?

Goodwin would be great news after hearing he is being pressured to stay in state.

2:38 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Shula, Dubose, Tubs, and Tater Tot competing for a job. We could have a lot of fun with that.

2:40 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

For those who think we are sometimes unfair to Tubs, in that grouping he is a king.

2:43 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Goodwin article now up on rivals and he says he is solid to Auburn and canceled his previously scheduled visit to UGA this weekend to take his Auburn visit. Sounds like very good news.

2:45 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Agreed RK.

2:46 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Canceling his visit to UGA is major news, although I am not sure why he wouldn't take the visit. It must be that he is really sure where he wants to be.

As for UGA, it seems Richt still has a good deal of support as long as there is a new DC.

As for Bowden, he was very similar to other flash in the pan coaches. Even Weis looked great after his first couple of years. It is one thing to win initially off of the enthusiasm of the hire, but it is entirely different to maintain a program.

2:49 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Eddie can tell y'all as well as any that I was a staunch defender of Tubs at the end of last season and thought he deserved a chance to turn it around. But once he left and we hired Chiz, I moved on.

Why are we still talking about him...at all? Whether to defend him or attack him, why are we still talking about him?

That is all.

Because this is America! And it's a slow news day.

Blogger michael said...

I don't know that Weis looked "great" the first couple of years. how many big wins did he actually have?

2:54 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Well we could talk about Alabama possibly winning a Heisman and a BCS title or Auburn basketball...

Both make me sad.

What do you guys think of the BC coaching situation?

Sounds like a good pickup for Auburn..

Is this the guy wtc was referring to the other day?

If so, I'm canceling my subscriptions and am going to give him the money instead.

Talk about Northwestern, talk about 2010, talk about the US World Cup Draw, talk about how awesome, yet modest, E-Bro is.

Anything but Tubs.

I know very little about Northwestern and I'm just not a futbol guy, so it's either 2010 or how awesome E-Bro is.

I think Weis won around 9 or 10 games his first couple of years. He also came very close to an upset of USC. USC won on a miracle last play of the game one year. I don't follow ND to closely because I don't find them that interesting. They aren't what they once were.

3:02 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Weis hasn't looked great since he was in a 32 slim. I'm guessing 3rd grade.

FSJ, Goodwin is more like a hold for Auburn. He is a big time prospect many were thinking might get pulled to UGA or GT, primarily UGA.

And never forget that Senator Holtz predicted ND contending for the NC this season. Actually, I heard him predict ND will contend for the NC in two years after they get a new coach. Man, I wish I could get some of the stuff Senator Holtz smokes.
