what does he have to lose by hiring leach? he could win big or go supernova.
Well, Kippy would be a wow hire, but not the type of wow I had envisioned. He could be a great coach. I don't know. But if I were a UT recruit I would be in shock.
Seanzie, Norm would be proud.
Thank ya sir, I kind of guessed on it...it was at 199 and I rolled the dice.
Leach has been accused of abusing players and has demonstrated a clear lack of ability to shut up. He could be very successful, but it would be very easy for it to blow up in UT's face.
the infinite "wows" the ut hire could generate cannot be expressed in blog form. you have to have the voice inflection to know which one it is.
Wasn't UT the primary alternative for Mr. Coleman? Recent events may help firm up that commitment.
On a lighter note, apparently Jay Leno is going back to the Tonight Show. Connan O'Brien is available. He may want to call UT.
as opposed to how it is currently blowing up?
If Kippy is hired, you will have many myocardial inflections and infarctions in Tennessee, not to mention infractions.
Mr. Coleman is also looking to take officials to Ole Nutt and The U.
duh!!!!......of course...I still cannot talk and evidently I can't type either!!!
And Norm Chow tells Kiffy "up yours." Didn't they already announce he was on the team? OOOPs!
I haven't heard any rumors about the UGA DC sense hearing a rumor of them going after Muschamp. If Muschamp turned down the HC spot at UT, good luck to Richt in getting him as a DC.
Well Kiffin did a really dumb thing in his presser last night and said he expected to call the plays on offense. Ain't no way Chow is going over there to play second fiddle to Lane. He got tired of that once already.
i wouldn't think leach was a good candidate either other than he and his staff could be in place tomorrow and salvage a year of recruiting. the timing of kiffykin's bailout and the number of folks turning them down is reaching epic proportions for a ut search. i think leach is a perfect short-term bandaid for a lame duck ad.
In reality, Cut's all they got. He's been @ UT before, he's been a HC in the SEC. If they can't get him they're in serious trouble.
So, Commish...have your profile views doubled or tripled since you put Side Girl on?
have ya'll picked a coach yet for utenn?
We were saving it for your return.
What do you think of a staff of Fulmer, Cutcliff & Chavis?
Kiffy thinks he's the Wunderkind who's gotten these jobs based upon substance, not style. No one really does know why he's gotten these jobs, but I have a feeling that those in the Pac-10 who know him best (like Chow) think he's a fraud and a punk and can't wait to embarrass the crap out of him.
ScottC: excellent question. I never looked before (promise) but I've got to think that number is inflated due solely to my USC honey.
Go Trojans!!
The latest rumor is Bobby Johnson.
I just made that up, but it seems to be as substantial as anything else.
According to the Finebaum show...WBIR in Knoxville is reporting that it will be Cutcliffe...Who knows
John Longshore is sitting in with Finebaum's producer and keeps saying...GREAT HIRE....HOMERUN!
What a oucheday..
I like Fulmer. He's faithful.
Finebaum? People still listen to him?
If it is Cutcliffe....wonder if he makes a run at Trooper Taylor? I wonder what their relationship is?
Don't mind me. I'm just conducting a little experiment.
Someone on Volchat just said "maybe Cutcliffe will bring some Duke recruits with him."
LOL.
I consider this experiment a success, no matter what the original desired outcome may have been.
It's a success...
I prefer brunettes though..
hubba, hubba
I predict results akin to a slot machine jackpot
Richt has to be the happiest man in the SEC East...
It sounds like UT is in the same boat as Bama was. They need to pull out their $4 Million checkbox. Coach Peterson, here is a check for $4 Million. Do you want it? Take all the time to think it over you need, as long as we get an answer within the next hour.
The problem Steve is that there is nobody out there worth $4M a year that is available, IMO.
ScottC, it others follow our Avatar lead I predict the HABOTN server will shut down
The problem is that I cannot think of a big time coach that has close ties with UT.
Why is so hard for UT to get a coach. I don't see why some of the guys like Peterson take the job? They have had 3 coaches in what 30 years that is good
Richt is in the same boat and almost as unhappy: he can't find a DC like UT can't find a HC
Jake Holland is to earn a 4th star from our friends at Rivals.
Steve what ties did saban have with UAT
No indication that UT has considered Petersen, right? He should be at the top of any HC list.
UT has had problems with how they have lost coaches. Think of how Johnny Majors went out. Look at Fulmer getting fired. Now Kiffikin slaps them in the face. I can see why someone wouldn't want to be next.
bigdaddy, everyone knows that Saban is a coaching whore and will likely not be around for the long term.
Ha ha Saban does have that going for him
RIP Teddy Pendergrass...
SteveFC, you consider giving coaches 10-15 years at the helm as too short of a time span? I wouldn't think that would be any coaching candidate's issue with UT.
My guess is Peterson has serious personality issues, or really just doesn't want to leave Boise unless its the PERFECT job. Those are the only explanations I can come up with for why he is still in Boise, even with the Scientology rumors.
How long they were there is irrelevant, Michael. I was speaking of how they left.
Stabbing the coach in the back is the UT way..
Majors did it to Battle..
Fulmer did it to Majors..
Something sketchy is going on at Boise, I'm convinced.
Maybe UT is just trying to decide which coach has the hottest wife. Barbara Petersen is okay, but she's no Layla Kiffin.
then Kiffen did to UT
Coaches leaving major programs without acrimony or scandal is the rare exception not the rule these days. Almost unheard of, in fact.
Getting rid of Tuberville wasn't nearly as ugly as what went on at UT with Fulmer and Majors. Fulmer had his crying fit. Majors got thrown out after being ill. It isn't how you treat coaches with that much of a commitment to the school. Auburn and Tuberville did pretty good at spinning things, but even then you had people on ESPN discussing how foolish Auburn was. Tennessee's cases were 10 times worse and now they follow it by hiring a kid who embarrasses them and then leaves.
I just don't think that's a factor at all in the difficulty UT's having, Steve. Don't think any of these coaches care, even if they remember. There are more important con$ideration$ that make up for any hostile exit strategy.
And you can also demonstrate the same problem with a lot that went on with Bama all the way back to Ray Perkins and why Bama had to pull out the big check book to get a coach to come. At one point coaches would have been fighting to be selected.
NBC is denying earlier reports that Leno if heading back to the Tonight Show.
Tubs had much more recent success than ole Phil did, and they let him hang around for quite awhile.
I really don't see how you could say Auburn or anyone else is historically smoother at coaching transitions. It is a painful thing at any big school.
I hope some of the hotties will chip in for Haiti. Hope you don't mind the link, Jay. It is to the White House webiste. I just tend to believe when we help others we help ourselves.
Care and Doctors Without Borders are outstanding organizations with a presence in Haiti and worthy of support.
How do you create those hypertext links (without the address)?
This links are done with html. For instance, to link to HABOTN, type
<a href="http://jaygtate.blogspot.com/">HABOTN</a>
The general format is
<a href="link">title</a>
The HABOTN link example above will show up like this:
HABOTN
Why the example showed up instead of the link is because that isn't what I typed to get what you see to show up. You have to use some escape sequences there that we don't want to get into.
There are plenty of places on the web to learn about HTML. It isn't difficult once you know the format.
New UT Coach:
CUTCLIFFE
Comm'r
His head does look like a thumb in that picture
Cutcliffe is one of Fulmer's buddies, so it is surprising, but may not be a bad choice long term for them.
Yes but it's UT's thumb.
It will look more like a pumpkin when he dons the creamsicle hat.
Fulmer always reminded me of Fred Thompson. I suspect those two and Cutcliffe are all related. I will live it to you to figure out how.
Looks like someone poured acid on The Thumbprint:
NO CUT
thought it was funny

That one's good, bigdaddy. Has anyone posted this one yet?

Give 'em hell you (female) War Damn Eagles! 8!
Everyone disappeared after puppet hour
Maybe everybody is just waiting for the live blog of the ladies' game to start...or maybe they're waiting for Michael's live blog of the live blog.
Are ladies on TV?
nope, no TV :-(
Depends on what channels you subscribe to THT. I hear there are plenty of ladies on the spice channel.
Then again, I'm sure many would make the argument that those girls aren't ladies at all.
How I see it unfolding...
Tigers win the tip, feed it down low to Keke who banks one in softly off the glass. UA-T turns it over and Alli drains a 3 from Loachapoka. UA-T throws up a brick, Keke grabs the carom and quickly outlets to Morgan who drives right down the lane for a layup. AU 8 UA-T 0. Timeout called.
Holy cow, the Lebos are leading.
JGT stuck in AU women's hoop traffic???
Dunk by Hargrove, turnover by UT!
Men with 3 3s score 11-8 AU
Live Blog UPZ.
I have cheap engagement rings for women and makeityourring diamond engagement rings, maybe it will be an useful information for you...thanks for sharing
