Oh yes he did ...
Hey everyone. The Dothan Eagle is reporting that Troy offensive coordinator Neal Brown has accepted the same position at Texas Tech under new coach Tommy Tuberville.
Brown is a nearly exact replica of Tony Franklin and has described Franklin as his mentor. They run essentially the same offense.
What can Auburn fans take from this? Tuberville clearly didn't consider Franklin's offense, the one that went awry during Auburn's 2008 season, the primary problem. It was a personnel problem from the beginning.

This is funny!
It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
This story has made me laugh several times during the past 18 hours. Hilarious stuff.
My guess is that Hugh Nall won't be making the trip west.
And this is nuts.
It's like George Bush once said: fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me... you can't get fooled again."
Is this guy a self-proclaimed dumbass like his mentor?
Well, also a personality problem. He tried to bolt a spread OC onto a power-run offensive coaching staff and the two never meshed.
I wouldn't be more surprised if I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet.
JGT - Charlie Knipper apparently walked on at...
IOWA!!!
michael: Perfect parallel.
Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who, this is a happy occasion.
Wow!!! As I have said, I see where his logic is going, but just wow. And no, I doubt you will see any former offensive assistants headed to Tubbock.
That is a great quote michael.
It's an even better video.
When, who and why was Tubbock started???
Anyone seen Frank Caliendo do Bush? It's priceless.
I saw "Tubbock" on a blog somewhere when Texas Tech first thought of interviewing xCTT.
god bless x-CTT and his spread offense's heart. good luck to him.
nothing would make me happier than AU beating TX Tech in a BCS title game in 5 years. Tubs promised us a championship. it's only fair!
See, it seems funny on the surface, but this guy will have his own staff, and will most likely actually talk to the head coach.
Larry Blakeney has to feel about Tubbs a little bit like I do when asked about Texas Defensive coordinators
He hasn't even started working there yet and they're already starting with nicknames????
I would say he's been officially working now for about 4 days.
Well, you know what I mean.
Lol right, I'm just being a donkey today.
By the way, how's that golf swing?
I'd love to hear Tony Franklin's take on this.
Also, how is Darren Bates getting so many votes in the poll? Nobody knew anything about him from last year to know if he's improved this year or not.
I wanted to go to the driving range today, but it's too cold. Back in the 70s tomorrow, though, and 78 by Saturday!!!!
What I'm really trying to say is that it's STUPID!!!
Haven't played in several months. But the last time I played, it was the same as usual - terrible.
rk - I voted for Bates because of Jay's definition:
The player whose value, in your eyes, jumped farthest from Aug. 4 to Jan. 2.
That would be Bates and Adams easily for me. As far as most improved from last year, I would say neither of them would be eligible. I would probably go Byrum and Tate for that one.
So: Tuberville is to Larry Blakeney as Mac Brown is to Tuberville (circa 2007)
I know I'm late to the party on the poll, but Neiko Thorpe...seriously? I hope more than anything he wins this distinction next year and someone unplugs the toaster.
I voted for Adams and Byrum.
Byrum just because how awful he looked last year. I figured we'd be looking for a replacement.
Tubs hiring Troy's OC....priceless. Can someone hurry up and head to MTSU to get a comment from him?
Now this should be interesting to watch in 2010!
I fully expect Tubs to retain Matt Moore as OL coach at TT.... if he's smart he will anyway. Moore is one of the better spread OL coaches around.
me too, WERK. Bates was oh-so-close to getting my 2nd vote.
I think that is precisely the reason everyone is voting for Bates.... everyone expected zippo out of him, and we got a solid contributor who developed and progressed as the season went on...
Bates plays well, but the kid probably needs to calm down a little with the post play celebraton and trash talk that he does.
I like seeing the emotion... reminds me of Rosegreen. He isn't being a thug and poking eyes and kicking people in the head... he's just excited and playing with emotion...
I like it.
Anyone here have/play a PS3? I'm new to this whole thing... still learning the ropes. How do you download themes to it... and is there an AU one out there?
First I've heard of this guy:
Driskel
PS3 is for wannabes.
That's right everyone, I just went fanboy on the HABOTN.
Scotto Choco... you been under a rock? Driskel is all the rave!
you don't count seanzie...
No worries, DMiller, I'm used to that sort of response. My wife tells me that all the time when we vote on stuff.
if brown is a true xctf disciple, the ol at ttu better start liking caesar salad with water because they are about to drop some weight. at least that would be in line with what ctf did at AU.
i had watched leach for years using 310+ ol in his hurry up spread and be fine. i never understood the weight dropping issue at AU. as we all found out 270 is a big dude in the sun belt, but dtackles eat em alive in the sec.
I guess I should check out wtc's mom's recruiting page more often.
more QBs! more QBs!
This guy is the future, folks. Cam Newton for two years, then Driskel steps in as a redshirt sophomore. We're set until 2015!
Scott C- Driskel and Kiehl Frazier are the top 2 QB's on Auburn's wish list for next year's recruiting class. They both project to be 2 of the best at that position in next years class. This staff is in on the big guys early. This is exciting.
oh, he's a 2011 recruit? Even better. Two years of Cam, Two years of Rollison, then two years of Driskel. We're set for 6 years.
Bates was a surprise, but I considered him an unknown.
Thorpe and Todd didn't surprise me. Todd did to a little extent because he did a bit better early on than I had thought.
Adams was a returner I didn't anticipate contributing at all and got one of my votes.
The other went to Bynes. I thought he went from so so to a solid linebacker.
Demond would get my third vote.
was the poll the biggest surprise of 2009?
SCottCHoc-You might want to check in soon, the price for the info is going up.
who is in Pompano? Dan Dan?
there are Hotties everywhere.
Scottie B. with the front page quote!
OK, I could discuss my feelings about this development, but it would only serve to stir the masses.
I'll leave it at this: Nothing about Tubs amazes me anymore.
Got to the poll party late was trying to do two things at the same time, talk to my oldest daughter and vote. I did not see vote for two so I voted for one, Darin. I do not see a map is tis because I only voted for one??
Tubs hire will be fun to watch and will make for conversation for a while.
Chip Chip. I have no idea why tony the .. ugh.. asked Auburn OL to drop weight. Air raid requires a very strong, heavy, impenetrable OL.
Troy's LT is 340 lbs. The rest of Troy OL range from 295 to 315 lbs.
In fact in 07 TTU's ol was one of the heaviest in the country.. with guys like Brandon Carter (375 lbs) Delpeche (360 lbs), Johnson (370 lbs) .
======
About the entire situation, I feel sorry for TTU.
Only for you FSJ
http://www.sgvtribune.com/ci_14167787
PF - Secondaid is reppin' Pompano, though he resides "two hours north".
Digger - did you click the "comment" link in the blue area below the list of candidates? That's where the map is. If you did, and no map, I guess it's cause you didn't complete your vote.
t-zach has quietly snuck into 3rd place.
No I didn't THT but I will go try that, Thanks
I voted Darvin and T-Zach.
THT: Specifically, Port Saint Lucie, spring training home of the Mets. Town motto: Where New York Goes To Die. Additional motto: City Planners? We don't need no stinkin' city planners!
How can someone not vote Wes Byrum?
Had he connected a couple of his very easy kicks and extra points last year we would still have xCTT here.
Yessir. it wasn't the drunk homeless looking guy and it wasn't 'minger or nall. It was Wes Byrum.
now that sounds like a place I'd want to live, Secondaid!
Thanks to THT I found the map and how totally fascinating. I had no idea the Hotties were so spread out.
I beleive Tuberville will let the offensive Co-ordinator do his job and Texas Tech will do well in the big 12. He does have a mountain to climb with the fans but if he puts out a winner that won't take long to overcome.
If Byrum performs next year like he did this year, i hope we don't redshirt Parkey if Parkey can't get KOs to the end zone. I sure have missed Matt Clark.
Pompano to PSL is two hours?
it is when the road is full of 88 year old yankee refugees.
I want to second the motion above......JGT call and see if you can interview Franklin, or if your cheap paper will foot the bill go to Tenn and interview him LIVE ON HABOTN.
please don't. Or do it while I'm taking a nap.
Why THT? That would be better than SNL of old.
Oh, I know all about 88 year old refugees. Ours are all from Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, and the smaller New England States, though, whereas his are from NY, Jersey, and Philadelphia.
I wish CTF nothing but success. But I'm not interested anymore in any CTF interview that brings up his relationship with the former AU staff.
Peace, THT, I just thought it would be funny
It will be interesting to see how Tuberville does at Texas Tech. We will likely see what he had planned for Auburn. It is a different situation being in the Big 12 and Texas Tech, but it should get heated.
I picture the Big12 as easier to win 9 or 10, but nearly as hard to win them all as in the SEC. The Big 12 is usually the big 2 or 3 and the also rans.
I would love to hear a CTF interview because he supposedly regularly chats with Brown. Brown had to have called CTF and asked how he viewed working for Tuberville.
I do think this says that CTT probably didn't view the problem as CTF, but rather the continuity of the offensive staff.
Seanzie, I saw F. Caleindo at the Stardome one time. It was a blast.
Some woman named Monica asked me to be her friend on Facebook. Does anyone know her?
nice list of recruits visiting this weekend, per Scout.com
After reading a post from a very trusted source I would like to give my opinion on the last 6 spots we have open for recruiting. Latt, Lemonier, Whittaker, Thorton, Mack and Jones.
I wonder whom the Hottie is who voted from Charleston, WV.
I didn't see any Hotties in Lubbock exercising their right to vote.
it's getting close to my nap time.
But before I nap...
I'm casting my vote for... BEASLEY!!!
This comment has been removed by the author.
PF - you're all right.
sleep tight.
You know, it doesn't really make a difference what xCTT viewed as the problem because he was the head man and was supposed to fix the problem. Or, he created the problem and did not know how to fix it. I wish him well; however, if he continues the same coaching philosophy at TT as he did the last few years at AU, TT is doomed.
I wish I had nap time.
I think THT had to run into a parked car to earn his nap time.
CTT wasn't really given the opportunity to fix the problem, so the point is mute. We will see how he does at Tech. The only concern I have seen is that he has mentioned they would run the ball a bit more. If that means running the ball 50% of the time, they will have offensive philosophy issues.
I'll take that trade off.
Steve,
Are you sure you aren't actually XCTT? I liked the guy and all, but it was time to go.
I believe the point is moot and 2008 was his opportunity to fix the problem. The problem was the offense and Tony Franklin was the fix. He botched it. End of story.
Steve, sometimes you make no sense at all. How was xCTT not given the opportunity to fix the problem. He had all of 2008 to do so once he found out what the problem was. I can only assume it was the BBQ boys.
Excuse me, I meant moot.
IV and I get it, we're on the same page.
IV, I am sorry you are not able to grasp my point, but your issue has been prevalent for some time, but as I have stated. I do not have the time to help you at this point.
Steve from Lubbock, I don't need your help in grasping non-sense. That is exactly what you are spewing.
Steve, I think we got it. The problem is you're fixated on the wrong problem. Firing Tony Franklin was not the problem. The problem was a lack of consistent offense from 2006-2008. His attempt to fix it was a failure.
IV hits SFC with chair..PF soon to jump from top rope.
All you guys are a bunch of idiots!
Why does Steve always run out of time when is is losing a debate?
I think XCTT was given many chances to fix the problems. How many times did he get to fire staff memebers after bad years? The problem was that he fired the wrong ones. Borges should have stayed!!
Scott, I was about to say the same thing. Everyone jumped on him all at once. Sorry Steve.
aero, i thought ttu had a heavy line but never looked up the info. that 2008 weight loss boggled my mind based on all the other pass happy offenses i've ever seen. the ol usually only has to hold their blocks for 2 seconds and the ball is gone. you need big tall ols that keep defenders hands down and simply slow down pressure to the qb. that is why northwestern frustrated AU's pass rush all game in the bowl. all that work from the dl and few opportunities to hit the qb.
ideally, this takes a lb out (like el toro) and replaces him with a lesser db (hood) giving the wr a mismatch and the d less run stopping power against the big boys up front when you decide to slip in a draw.
i'll definitely keep an eye on the ttu offense next season.
my prediction: ttu qb throws for less than 4000 yards. i think they have broken 5000 the last 6-7 years or so.
That's why we like you so much Michael, you are one of us.
IV, there is no debate. You requested me to teach you and I do not have the time. To point out the obvious reason you do not replace an entire offensive staff during the middle of the season is obvious, so I take it that more education would be required than the time I have to give. Additionally, I am compensated for my time and I seriously doubt you could afford it.
Hmmm ad hominem anyone?
I wasn't complaining. :) I enjoy the entertainment.
Steve, I never asked you to teach me any of your gibberish. He could have fixed the problem before 2008. Don't you get it or are you just dense?
Steve from Lubbock.
Awesome new name. I like it.
I've got $0.25 Steve give me an hour's worth.
Oooh this is gettin' good, I think I may just have to sit this one out, but, IV, if you get tired, you may tag me in at any point.
If Tuberville is hiring/retaining all these Franklin cronies, do we call this "The Mea Culpa Project II?"
If you don't want to be taught, do not ask the questions. An hour will cost around $100. I am not hear to argue points. If you do not grasp it, I do understand.
Thanks Jay, I try, but you know, it takes us old folks a little longer to be clever.
You snooze you lose. The Florida coaching situation hasn't hurt their recruiting.
"It looks like Ronald Powell's decision to commit to the Gators this past weekend at the Army All-American Bowl fulfilled the needs UF had at defensive end and the Gators were full, scholarship-wise.
"They told me they had no scholarships left," Jeffcoat said Monday night via e-mail. "That's why I canceled my visit."

Steve from Lubbock, if you charge $100.00 an hour, I'll bet you are on welfare and food stamps.
Passive aggressiveness is a sign of a much deeper problem.
if newton gives AU the talents to add a functional quick passing game to the package in addition to the threat of the qb run, the o will be very hard to stop.
i watched ttu's bowl game marveled at how their rbs catch the swing pass out of the backfield as they turn upfield at full speed. too many times AU's qb throws behind, low, tall or something that takes the back's momentum away from him allowing the d to catch up easily. an accurate and effective short passing game in gus' offense will be absolutely deadly.
Then you would loose again.
Maybe Tuberville (Really, this is getting tiring, but I keep contributing) should have taken Richt's approach to their bowl game. Fire everybody but one coach and let them coach everybody. Georgia played it's best defense of the season against Texas A&M.
What is "loosing" exactly?
Try lose SFL instead of loose.
It's the opposite of tightening :)!
Iv, are you loose? Someone go catch him. The old geezer is not allowed out.
Thanks, Edward!
Yeah, I've got problems. So?
Peter my man, you crack me up.
Eddie, you do have a point. And it worked for Richt.
We all fall into the trap of arguing with Steve. That's a no win situation. He, like Tubs, can spin a situation into anything he wants and tell you where to take your argument, right, wrong, indifferent, etc...
IV... you are getting a little riled up over what's currently a non-issue.
he gone. he's never coming back.
As I said, there is no argument.
Yea, but SFL answered my earlier question in his own way when I asked him if he was dense.
Very good point Aeronaut.
Did anyone listen to Finebaum yesterday? I don't listen 'cause I can't stand him or the idiots that call in. But, my friend told me that someone called in yesterday and asked Paul if he thought the reason Carroll was going to the NFL was because he was afraid of Saban. I think my lower jaw was on the floor when she told me that because I was so flabergasted that someone would even think that let alone verbalize it!
...unless your argument rules, then he'll find someone else who takes your point.
Hi Aero, good to hear from you. I hope all is well. By the way, do you mean xCTT is gone or Steve from Lubbock?
I seriously doubt there are any coaches afraid of Saban. That is hilarious.
Luv, of course Carroll is going to THE LEAGUE because he's afraid of SABAN. I'm shocked Bill Belichick didn't pack up the bags and the kids and retire the minute SABAN took the Dolphins job.
Luv- I have found that my health has improved considerably since I game PF up. Coincidence...I Think Not.
I'm afraid of Saban, so I'm planning a Caribbean vacation.
LOL, Seanzie!
I may quit watching college football because I'm deathly afraid of Nick Saban.
I'm scared Saban is going to whack me in my bad knee because I didn't see him standing right in front of me.
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
Bwahahaha, yea, it is a wonder coaches didn't flee the NFL. I do love how some have developed a serious case of Saban worship.
I'm so afraid of Saban I may never use Just For Men hair color because I may not be worthy.
I am so afraid of Nick Saban I may never wear a Sansabelt suit because I may not look nearly as fantastic in it as he does.
Did someone say something about the Staypuff Marshmallow Man?
Well, there's something you don't see every day, Norm.
Mindbomb is for entertainment purposes only. Do not confuse Mindbomb with reality. You might refer to the Mindbomb callers as the Redneck Allstars. There is no substance.
Sorry, folks. Couldn't help myself.
If Tuberville were interested in anything other than cashing $5 million for him and a minimum $30,000 annually (state retirement benefits upon age 65 based on a salary of $150,000) for each of the BBQ boys except Ensminger, then he would have called in Nall, Gran and Knox and said:
"That's it. You're finished at Auburn! Expelled!
"And you'll be glad to know that I've contacted each of your draft boards to let them know that you are eligible for military service."
That would have been something he could have taken in to see Jacobs and Gogue to show he was serious about rebuilding, starting with the offense.
But he wasn't. He wanted the cash.
Now, one of two things are possible:
1) He's admitting that he was wrong all along and is putting together a team that doesn't include these guys.
2) He's so desperate to coach and make more money that he's willing to be controlled by the PTB once again.
As Tony Santoro in "Casino," said. "It's about the dollars. It's always about the dollars."
I'm so scared of Saban that I refuse to watch the Wizard of Oz or Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
Jet's right, as so often is the case.
Jet, that is certainly possible. I am not certain what was going on when Jacobs supposedly wanted Tuberville to remain. My guess was there was a pissing contest that went on similar to what happened with Cutcliff at Ole Miss, but we will likely never know for sure.
Robotic Fighting Midgets?
I think it is possible that the Illuminati orchestrated the whole deal. We'll never know.
ElTurbo's quote of the day ...
"My history professor looks like Ted Roof."
I wonder if he slaps the desk at the end of the lecture and walks out.
Dark powers at work, PF.
Dark, or light?
Let me ponder that for a few.
Ted Roof's exit is classic. I keep waiting for him to say "and that's all the people need to know". I wasn't particularly a Roof fan, but he is growing on me.
So dark, the con of Tubs. That's my answer, PF.
Thanks Jet,
I was trying to say that but I was not as eloquent as you, as usual.
Driskel kid is good...but would we really take another Qb next year?
I think we should take a QB of some sort every year. The way we have stockpiled QBs lately is unnecessary.
jhag, I laid out a six year plan. 2 years of Cam, two years of Rollison, and two years of Driskel. The rest help with scout team and playcalling.
Jhag- Auburn will definitely take another QB next season. Bank on it.
Well dang I missed another lively debate with no winner. Follow the money, always follow the money it will lead you to the truth.
Jet is right that Tuberville could have announced wholesale changes at the end of the season, although he resigned early in December, if I remember correctly. I expected changes, but we did not see what changes would be made. It could have very well been that Jacobs said fire the entire offensive staff and CTT said no. That is speculation.
The bottom line is that I don't believe the situation would have changed at Auburn because of the conflicts between the administration and staff. I think it was Franklin that described the tension. I don't think changing coaches would have changed that.
The bottom line is that hopefully that tension is now removed and the grudges between the administration and the staff no longer exist. There are those that blame Lowder, Dye, and others; but I think the trouble was on how both sides viewed each other.
Chizik seems to be very good at dealing with the public and hopefully he will be just as good at dealing with the administration. Hopefully this will end up being beneficial to everyone involved.
This might have already been discussed, but why is Craig Stevens enrolling in FAMU for a semester? Does that make him still eligible for next year? (Per his tweet)
RE Tubs: History has been kind to Tubs. The problem with his regime in the later years was more fundamental than his choice of OC in 2008? If you don't have the players, your OC selection is irrelevant. Seems clear that Tubbs problems began and ended with staff complacency, manifested by lack of recruiting.
Kathy I don't believe you can enroll in two 4 year colleges and remain eligible to play an NCAA sport for one of them.
Kathy,
1st I have heard of that. That wouldn't make any sense to me. He could probably still play next year but he wouldn't be able to participate in spring practice.
nap time didn't work so well. Too many phone calls.
Tony Franklin a huge fan of TT & TTU
according to Ray Melick
Stevens is in FAMU and attending classes and just completed a workout according to Twitter. Said he enrolled there for a semester. Got a loan.
On another note:
"Heck, I'm a huge Texas Tech-Tommy Tuberville fan now,'' he said. "How about that?''
http://blog.al.com/ray-melick/2010/01/tony_franklin_im_a_huge_texas.html
We had top 10 recruiting class in 2006 and 2007, so I don't view recruiting as the direct issue. There was a fall off in 2008, which I attribute to the hype surrounding coach Satan.
The biggest problem I see with players was the unusually high attrition rate we were having. That is very evident when you note the number of seniors we lost this year, which was not many. Those highly ranked recruiting classes became very thin. I am not sure where to put the blame for that, but some would say CTT didn't pay enough attention to recruits academic record, which may or may not be true.
I was counting on Stevens being at Auburn next season.
I guess it's just my monitor, but in the pic that accompanies the Melick article, Tubby's TTU tie and the guy's shirt behind him look orange and blue.
it's definitely orange.
I am assuming Stevens will be at Auburn next season. Hopefully Jay G. can confirm that. Yea, we will have nearly a dozen linebackers, but experience wise, we need him bad.
Does anyone know any examples of two star Auburn players being successful that prove recruiting rankings don't mean everything?
Man, Tubs is a good salesman! He's already convinced Texas Tech to change their colors to match his wardrobe.
Marks immediately comes to mind. Bates does also.
i thought Ray Melick may have been playing with us, but it's orange on the redraiders.com site.
Kristina just notified me by ESP that Michael is kidding.
or 5 stars that don't pan out will work as well, I cant think of any though
Too late!!!
There were also several of our linebackers that were two stars that ended up going to the NFL, but the names escape me at the moment.
Michael- You can go down the Sen' Derrick Marks Path, but for every Marks, I can find you about 8 flops of similar star ratings.
As for 5 stars, Leon Hart is the poster child.
Here we go again.
Boom? Doubtful
YES!
I knew it.
