Oh yes he did ...

Hey everyone. The Dothan Eagle is reporting that Troy offensive coordinator Neal Brown has accepted the same position at Texas Tech under new coach Tommy Tuberville.

Brown is a nearly exact replica of Tony Franklin and has described Franklin as his mentor. They run essentially the same offense.

What can Auburn fans take from this? Tuberville clearly didn't consider Franklin's offense, the one that went awry during Auburn's 2008 season, the primary problem. It was a personnel problem from the beginning.

Someone post a new topic. The past or who will be the QB has been beat to death. Crootin has also gotten old.

Who will be the next star wide receiver? Will Emory of Benton pan out?

What will our DBs look like next season? Jay has already said Etheridge may not be back.

What new players will have immediate impact?

There are topics we have not beat to death yet.

1:36 PM
Blogger michael said...

No Scott C, I just have a lot tied up in investments right now. I have a warehouse full of canned ham and baby ferrets that should produce a pretty good profit for me in the near future. Also, there is a dude in Idaho who owes me some money, I I plan on collecting that at the beginning of February (or cutting off his pinkie toe).

Don't ask me about my business.

Steve, albeit with the benefit of hindsight, we now know that Auburn's 06-07 recruiting classes were suckaliscious, at best. I'm not talking about "recruiting mags" or stars, I'm talking about meaningful contributions on the field. By the measure that they themselves heralded as significant, and rightfully so, the Tubs regime underperformed relative to their own past performance. You can also see it in the ranks of AU players to the NFL (which correlates with meaningful contributions on the college field).

Troy Bergeron

Merrill Johnson
Michael McLaughlin
Charles Mullen
Korey Raymond
Greg Smith
James Swinton
John Watts

Sen'Derrick Marks
Zach Clayton
Steven Ensminger
Ryan Shoemaker
Brandon Earl
Chris Zinn

2) THT, I only put that one drifter on the map because I actually buried him in the JH endzone, so I figured it was kind of applicable.

3) I didn't kill Kristina, but I did see her at Disney World apparently. My wife yelled "War Eagle" to someone passing by, I caught a glimpse, and thought "Hmmm... was that Kristeenuh?", tried a Hottie Ho, but she was too far, and then confirmed via facebook that it was her. So Eddie now has someone else to join the club of People MJT Has Walked By

I had a guy in college try to explain to me with a straight face how Natty Light is a quality brew. He might not have been completely sober but definitely sober enough to know better.

Seanzie, No but I have seen 7 people try to hold up a 6'6" 340lb dude. The garbage can broke and he took out half of them.

Natty was the drink of choice for volume for me. I still think it tastes just as good as Bud Light and better than Miller Lite.

but Miller Lite is triple hops. I think that means they add exactly 1 hop, 3 times

Bud lite lime isn't bad. It's like Corona though, you can only drink it at the beach or the lake.

Bud Light Lime gives me the worst heartburn.

I'm not a big fan of BL Lime. However, just plain Bud Light is fine by me.

I believe there was a Lime Corona that I liked, but it has been a while and the fact that they were giving them away free and the girl giving them away was pretty hot may have influenced my opinion.

I just tried Fordham Copperhead Ale this week. It's a take on German Altbier, and very good imo. It's definitely worth a try. It's not high gravity, so you can probably find it in most grocery stores.

What kind of beer does Ali Smalley drink?

Blogger cincytiger said...

I'm a beer snob also. I still don't like any of it! A nice Pinot Gris or a Riesling, now we're talking. I am learning to drink red wine this year. Still don't like it, but hubby and I are drinking a glass a night for health benefits :) Any suggestions for a good red wine?

Cincy, I could give you a ton, but if you're just starting to drink red wine, most of my selections will probably be too dry or too robust. With that said, there are actually some good box wines out there now that are conducive to the glass-a-night regimen. My favorite of those is Bota Shiraz (used to be Delicato).

On the beer front (since it looks like you like kind of sweet wines), try Kasteel Rouge. It's a Belgian ale that tastes like cherries (though not too sweet for you beer snobs).

cincy, I rarely drink beer these days myself. I am much more likely to drink wine or even a wine cooler.

Thanks for the suggestions, SC,
We have tried Pinot Noir, some blend (Menage a Trois) and we are opening a Merlot tonight. Or I am, hubby is out of town, so I am drinking alone. I think there is a song about that.

Cincy, I just thought of something. I just tried a local wine (Ozan Norton) from the Ozan Winery in Calera. It's a pretty good red. It's a little more "grapey" up front than I usually like, but I think it would be a pretty good starter red wine. I don't know the price point, though. Someone gave it to me for Christmas.

I keep a few bottles of wine around, usually about 6. I have had mixed results getting wine from wine woot.

I have also confirmed that getting the $3 bottles of wine from Kroger is a bad idea, unless you are wanting to strip paint off of furniture.

PF: Saw your fridge contents. I think Anchor Steam (and Porter) is outstanding beer. The rest: highly questionable (no offense).

My side girls like Sweetwater 420 and Rogue Dead Guy Ale, so I try to keep it on hand.

Hart was a highly ranked 4 star. Stevens will be in for the spring last I heard. It was not just attrition, but also the high rate of non-qualifiers. I was never a big fan of taking to many risk, because statistics say you get 50% back on sign and place, and we have not been getting that much. Lots of suspensions, transfers, and doghouse rule breakers. Khalil Frazier will be our #1 target and he should start out a 4* and one of the best duel-threat QB's for 2011.

Wine is an adventure. I am more of a fan of red wines, but only certain ones. You really have to make the shift from quantity to quality to appreciate wine. There is a reason it isn't served in 12 oz glasses.

3:48 PM
Blogger CHB said...

SteveFL, I dated (well I wouldn't go quite that far) a girl when I was Auburn whose dad owned one of the wine vineyards that supplied Mad Dog 20/20.

SC,
I think that is the winery some of my friends have mentioned visiting. I have found one thing is going from white to red wine. Cheap white wine still tastes ok, cheap red wine tastes like paint thinner. This could become an expensive health habit.

3:50 PM
Blogger michael said...

So what do you guys think of the BC coaching situation?

3:50 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

CH=B, did her dad have some mad dogs that watered the vineyard for him? That's one of the few things that could explain the taste of that stuff.

3:50 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

Cincy- my wife's veins if half filled with blood and half filled with menage a trois wine. Oh yeh, and hald filled with dislike of everything i like

3:50 PM
Blogger Commish of Old Pimps said...

CHB: Expensive does not necessarily make it good. Also, approximately 10% of all red wine is "corked" - meaning contaminated with TCA - and tastes like vinegar. You may have gotten a bad bottle.

3:51 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

When I was young I had many a hangover over Mad Dog 20/20. It was like hitting your head with a hammer the next day.

As for price, I don't think a high price necessarily means it will be a wine you will like. I do believe that a very low price will just about guarantee you won't like it. I typically spend around $30-$40 a bottle and have mixed results. I by no means buy wine often. At one point I use to have a glass fairly regularly before bed.

3:52 PM
Blogger CHB said...

Cincy, just let some apple juice sit in your fridge for a long time. I almost got FAUWG drunk one day. We had some apple juice that got pushed back in the fridge and one day I gave it to her. There was something wrong with the nipple on the bottle and my wife was trying to get it to come out. When it did you would have thought that there was some vodka in there with the face she made.

3:53 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

The commish is right. I've found some really good, inexpensive red wines.

3:53 PM

And contrary to the opinion of some, older doesn't necessarily mean better in terms of wine. If wine is not stored properly, older can turn into a very bad thing.
