Eddie - yes, the past few weeks I've been in force workaholic mode. I don't expect this to change very soon.

THT - around 8 years ago, in the span of 12 months I took my daughter to Philips to see *NSync and Britney Spears. Both shows stunk on ice (IMO) but my daughter and her friend loved them. I got a big kick out of watching the people. Especially the younger males at each show who may now be hairdressers, female impersonators or the like. And as for each show, my goodness if I'd been a young 20's single guy...

Getting to O-town and back was rather painless, not like it used to be before (or while) they widened I-4.

I-4 eastbound out of Tampa is down to 1 lane right now, which means everybody is trying to avoid it and driving through my town instead... it has made traffic a mess.

Bro - thanks. It's Friday night on what's supposed to be a long weekend, officially at least. What am I doing on a Friday night? Intermittently hitting this fine blog while I continue to work for the man. If my guess is right, I'll easily put in 20+ hours this weekend working for the man. At least I'm now sitting in my comfortable chair with some fine Hawaii golf on tv. I have to remind myself that lives literally depend on what I and my coworkers do.

Sorry for griping. I'm in an exceedingly foul mood.

Kathy - LGG Byron saw it the other day. I haven't a clue.

FSJ - I seriously doubt D.Dooley=Bill Battle. Just from a scheudling standpoint, it would be impossible for him to start 24-3 with the 3 losses being to Auburn. (Those numbers may not be exactly right for Battle, but awful close).
Although, I'd certainly be pleased to see him duplicate that record!

8:58 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

ok, Walmartian Battle was 11-1, 10-2, 10-2 his first 3 years at UT

= 31-5 with 3 losses to AU and 2 to UA-T.

Hopefully Gus will learn from Chizik's Iowa State fiasco and wait for the right place. Although, I think Chizik probably learned a lot at ISU that helped him when he came to Auburn. So, I guess it wasn't a total waste.

I agree we need to change BB coaches, but I think we wait until after the season is completed. Someone, I think it was Jet, was right when he said we accomplish nothing doing it in the middle of the season. I think it makes us look bad if we do it now.

I heard the most interesting name in the Auburn basketball coaching situation earlier today.

Chuck Person.

The Rifleman is a special assistant on the Lakers (translated, he's Ron Artest's baby sitter). Since his playing days, he's been on the staffs of the Lakers and the Sacramento Kings and has been an executive with the Indiana Pacers.

I guess what I'm looking for is a coach that can energize, recruit and have players that play 94 feet by 50 feet like their hair is on fire. Making 70 percent of free throws is important to me, too.

People talk about "fundamentally sound," but to me, that sounds like a buzzword for "unathletic players from the 1960s." I admit I may be wrong.

People who want Mike Anderson want want the "40 Minutes of Hell" approach. I'm for it.

I don't think we can get Mike but we've got to find someone who can recruit those types of athletes, get their buy-in to team-oriented chaos and unleash the fun.

I just watched Derek Dooley's press conference. That guy did great. He acknowledged the great coaches that preceded him. He was very respective of the Tennessee tradition. That guy sounded like an SEC head coach. I think Tennesee will be much better of with a coach like that and will not have to overlook the bonehead statements of their head coach any longer. If the can resurrect this recruiting class, UT may be better off without the Kiffikin.

THT - I recall a story about The Rifleman from his baseball days (may be a myth). His final at bat of his career (he knew it was the final one because he was about to start some acting gig), he hits a homerun and slides into each base and homeplate. Not only did he play baseball and basketball professionally, he was also drafted by the Bears but didn't play.

WTC. I likey the fact that only three are uncommitted. the rest will be having a big time getting to know each other, just hangin. The three uncommitted will see that as "AU's family atmophere", which it will be. They won't be able to help themselves. AU ends the weekend with two new DT's.

Jet, I remembered the tune, but couldn't put the words on that jingle. I got you covered with the beverly hillbillies however.

I agree with you regarding the BBall coach. I do think tubby would be a step up for AU, however, if he was motivated.

Doesn't Mike Anderson have family in the Birmingham area? I say 1.7 Million, a new arena and practice facility, and all the free toomers corner lemonade you AND your family can drink as long as you live... will be enough to pursuade him to come.

Butler coach Brad Stevens would be a great choice for the new Basketball coach. Something like 68-14 in his 3rd year at Butler. Look for Calvin Smith and Markeith Ambles 2 current UT commits to visit Auburn soon. UT got burned by the timing of the hire. Alot of these coaches are not making a move 3 weeks before signing day.

Thornton did not make it....

Corey Lemonier was hoping to come in this weekend, but decided to stay home... tough time for the kid, he has family in Haiti...

Still speculation that Ambles may drop by tomorrow on an unofficial capacity...

I'd like to see Jones and Whitaker end things before they leave campus this weekend...

Top 5 Lebo replacement wish list:

1. Brad Stevens--Butler
2. Rick Stansbury--Miss St.
3. Scott Drew--Baylor
4. Tubby Smith--Minnesota
5. Paul Hewitt-Ga Tech

Honorable Mention: Kevin Stallings- Vandy; Steve Robinson--North Carolina

Depends on what the PTB is looking for. They either need to spend the money for a bigger name or go after a recruiter like Robinson or Hewitt.

I'm just amazed that we held on to win the game after giving up 3 separate 14 point leads, having almost 150 yards in penalties, giving up over 600 yards and feeling like it was finished 3 different times only to have to get out on the field and keep playing.

I cannot believe a fan would have a problem with Ben Tate. Yes, he made some mistakes, but he put more into the Auburn football program than any fan ever will. These kids work terribly hard.

Other than sitting on the couch eating Cheetos and clicking the remote, I wonder how this fan contributes?

Every team has idiot fans. Sometimes I even fall into that category.

Tate's fumble and 15 yard penalty hurt the team a lot, but his 100 yards and 2 TD's were a big part of why we won as well.

Steve, I agree about Ben Tate. He is a TRUE Auburn Man. All players make mistakes - he made VERY few in his entire Auburn career.

As for that woman, she was at the game, so at the very least, she bought a ticket.

Clinton & Bush have teamed up to collect donations for the people of Haiti. It is wonderful to see political differences set aside for a greater goal. Please help out if you can. Don't give until it hurts. Just give until it feels good.

Yes, I do appreciate that she attended the game. I just have read stories of some of the pain these athletes go through later in life because they played this game. Some pay a terrible price.

Yes, sometimes I get frustrated with players making mistakes, but I am darn well sure any player that gets on the field has worked very hard to get there. Yes, sometimes I have to remind myself of that.

I do love this game.
