Auburn fans have a stake in The Masters

Hey everyone. Former Auburn golfer Jason Dufner, a 2000 graduate, will participate in the Masters tournament this week. He is the third Auburn guy to do so.

Who are the others? Glad you asked.

John Huston played Augusta National a bunch of times. Buddy Gardner participated in the 1986 Masters.

Dufner qualified for the tournament by finishing 66th in the Official World Golf Rankings last season. He's currently ranked 73rd. Dufner will tee off at 11:14 a.m. CST on Thursday along with Vijay Singh and Sean O'Hair.

scottie,
You sure picked an offense packed game to go to! 16 runs by the Braves! When we go they usually win, but it is usually a defensive struggle with scores like 2-1 :)

I wouldn't get within 200 miles of that place this week. Infrastructure mishaps there are legendary. So, yeah, you could have gone in my stead. We used to cover the Masters ...

2-2 with a HR and 4 RBI tonight... Nice to have him back from the ankle injury.

miller, beat me to the punch just got home from the game, mummey got a great ovation when he stepped to the plate for his first at bat. Got the sac fly in his first at bat, a single in his second and then the 3 run jack, and let me just tell you there was NO doubt. Offense looked great, pitchers looked young, which they were. The best stat from tonight's game was that AU did not commit an error.

The errors have killed them in several games this year... they've got to cut them WAY down to have a shot.

10:46 PM
Blogger Michael Seale said...

that was a great stat miller, and that was even with subbing in a new first and third baseman, and a new catcher

10:50 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Wait, define new? Caldwell's not a "new catcher" by any means.

11:10 PM
Blogger Michael Seale said...

i meant we subbed in a catcher, they pulled caldwell for jenkins in the 7th

11:13 PM
Blogger wellsAU said...

As much as I like his bat, C Mac makes way too many errors. Him not being in tonight's lineup might have helped that.

11:13 PM
Blogger Michael Seale said...

its true and justin bryant has hit a homer in his last three games, but i think powlowski goes back to casey soon, i think his defense will tighten up

He Jay, I have a few questions that others might be interested in also.

1) The main QB interviews we have seen have been Newton and a little Caudle. Is this due to which QBs the media is requesting or is it who Auburn is providing, which I assume could be due to the coaches or player?

2) Was is the status of Travante Stallworth? I have read references to him being injured, but I can't remember him being injured.

3) Has Eric Smith been requested/made available for interviews?

Thanks. Just some curiousity on my part.

12:21 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Did Stallworth ever even come back last year when he got injured in November?

12:54 AM
Blogger wellsAU said...

I think I've heard Travante did something to his knee at one point last year and was reported to miss this spring due to recovery, either surgery or just rest. I'm not sure about that though.

12:54 AM

PF, I don't even recall when he was injured. I suppose it is part of old age. I forget other more important things these days, too.

Okay, horse fans, I need help understanding something. How is a number 2 seed considered the "overall highest seeded team going into competition" Equestrian stuff boggles me. Especially the part where one of the riders would marry Michael.

8:20 AM
Blogger digger4au said...

Good morning Hotties and 2.0
JGT I watched and pulled for John Huston his entire golfing career. He was never great but did win some tournaments. He was never one of the media favorites and got little coverage unless he was playing with one of the favs. He hurt his baack and tried a comeback but never made it. It was never talked about by the TV talking heads, he just disappeared.

8:23 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Maybe your reading it wrong PF. Maybe that team has smoked the most dope, and is seeded. So therefore they are team that is the most high and is also seeded, so they are the highest seeded team... get it?

8:24 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Keep the Auburn equestrian team away from Wake and drug testers.

8:27 AM
Blogger cincytiger said...

PF,
There are two sections to Equestrian, western and hunt seat. They are the 2nd seed in each, which combined makes them the highest seed. Does that make sense?

8:28 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Cincy's explanation, but I'm sticking with the drug theory.

8:31 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

So 2+2=1. Got it.

John Huston's Auburn career was less than brief. He was in school for a quarter played in one or two tournaments without distinction.

In 2000, Huston was playing a practice round with Daly, Mickelson and Zoeller. At No. 16, patrons beg players to skip the ball across the water. All complied, including Daly, who stopped the ball a few feet of the hole. Sadly, John mis-hit his and hit a screaming line drive into the gallery.

Buddy Gardner was a hard luck golfer -- an oustanding golfer at AU and a Gump native.

He nearly won twice on Tour -- unfortunately, Jay Haas dropped a 90 foot bomb on him in Houston. He qualified for the Masters by finishing in the top 10 (as I recall) in the previous US Open. His Masters visit was tough -- his birdie putt on the first hole of the tournament went off the green. He missed the cut.

8:44 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

In case you were wondering, Jet made all of that up.

8:48 AM
Blogger Norm said...

I seem to recall Buddy Gardner working at the former Food World located outside of the former Montgomery Mall. If that memory is accurate, that's a fair indication of his golfing career.

OK, it is official! Tylerson received an offer from his dream job in Huntsville and will begin work June 1. $65,000 salary with an $8000 signing bonus, plus unbelievable benefits. Quite a blessing in this economy. Not too bad, even if it did take him 5 years to finish school!

8:58 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Wow Cincy, I'm jealous. I didn't get anywhere near that kind of offer coming out of school. And this was before the recession.

9:04 AM
