Auburn (indirectly) draws the NCAA's ire

Hey everyone. I'm a bit late on this due to a lunch function with some HOTTIES and the WMSP 740 radio show, but let's work our way through this.

The NCAA on Thursday night approved legislation aimed at stopping the large-group recruiting Auburn had been using as recently as Thursday afternoon.

So what is this rule?

The NCAA has cut the number of coaches allowed to visit a school to two. Previously, the only applicable rule was that a maximum of seven assistants could be on the road at one time. Most schools scattered those seven men to cut a wider swath. Auburn unified its front.

Good or bad for Auburn? I say good. It gives the coaches a chance to frame the NCAA as haters; that Auburn was too good and too sly and too enthusiastic and too creative for the NCAA's tastes.

I had a humorous exchange with Trooper Taylor about this on Tuesday.

I said: "Considering how much bigger this has become since 2009, how high can you go for 2011?"

He said: "It probably won't happen. The NCAA will shut this down. We won't be recruiting like this next year, so we'll just enjoy it while we can. Hey, if they're creating rules to stop you from doing things, you must be doing something right."

A little tip for the runners, never load on Mexican food the night before you run. Especially when the only pit stop is 2 miles into a 10 mile run. (The 7 lbs was not at the pit stop BTW)

Head's fine Jet thank you so much for your kind inquiry. I only wish I'd gotten to sleep longer. No matter when he goes to sleep, F4* wakes up with the birds. Punk.

Just got home from his first Tball game. A solid 3 for 3, hitting everything hard and past the Yellow team. First one to the ball every time and nailed all his throws. I may have to reevaluate my earlier projections on him. He may be drafted into the MLB out of high school well before the second round is over.

Where there is smoke, it sometimes just turns out to be steam from warm poop on a cold day. I wouldn't get too excited until something official comes out, but regardless, I don't think losing El Toro would be huge.

He has certainly got talent but missed a lot of playing time last season because he couldn't play within the scheme of the defense. There are players like that who are very successful on lesser teams, but have a lot of trouble when they are surrounded by a lot of talent.

Hopefully El Toro has matured, but whether he plays or not, I will feal much better about our linebackers this season. Last season our depth at linebacker was ridiculous.

I think Friday he was saying it was all but done. Don't quote me on that though.

Here is a good article on former AU BB player Kyle Davis. I love watching him play. Those years were fun. I think we will get back to the tourney and the sweet 16 before long.

Right now SEC standings for the tourney are:
SC
UF
Ark
Ole Miss
AU
Vandy
LSU
UAT
UK
UT
MSU
UGA

After LSU, there is a sizeable drop off to the final 5... A couple more wins will guarantee being in Hoover. We finish the season with 2 very winnable home series and a very tough road series.

I feel confident enough with our chances of getting to the SEC Tourney, that I'm ready to go buy my tickets.

With wtc and Jay G. thinking El Toro is gone, it don't look good. Jay did say it isn't confirmed, but I got to think we are going to be de-bulled.

I will be in AU this coming weekend for the Mis St series. Hope to catch 2 games. Wonder if wifey wants to make it for the 3rd game on Mothers Day.

WTC, I read that Cothron had a great visit. Are you hearing anything? I think KU has been looking at him a little harder. He has and offer but was a back up plan. I think they lost a recruit to UW so I am a little worried that hey will turn up the heat on Cothron.

Blogger CHB said...

Someone help me on the new recruiting rule. I keep seeing people say that the limo's and such will have to be parked, but I didn't see in the rule where that was outlawed. From what I read the number of coaches was limited not their mode of transportation.

Blogger Miller said...

Cothron will look good in O&B.

5:05 PM
Blogger wtc said...

CHB-I will be surprised if Cothron is not in O&B next season.

Blogger wtc said...

As for the rule, I lok for the TP to continue by using the bus, or whatever, as a pep rally tool at the cities the coaches want ot meet in. Such as this past week. My understanding is that has not been stoppped. I think the limo to the schools will be terminated. Two coaches per school, and then a pep rally at the end of the day.

I don't really like Scarb, but this was a good article about the new rule.

A big War Eagle to the AU baseball team! Nice sweep for the Bravos, as well!

Wow, where did everyone go? Talked to my daughter in Nashville. They are under a curfew until 6 am. Bad stuff there. We had several tornados come through North Alabama last night, but no touch downs where we were. Glad to be back in B'ham.

Great job Auburn baseball team!

Cincy,

I thought about them when I saw the flooding. Several people have died in it. Crazy.

I just payed to see "Men Who Start At Goats" on PPV. My impression? They should have called it "Redneck Who Pays Too Watch Stupid Movie".

I watched it on Netflix two movies ago. I thought it was pretty good. Strange, but decent.

I also saw "It's complicated" this weekend, which I considered pretty good, although not as good as I had hoped.

I just watched Law Abiding Citizen that I got from Netflix. It was a good movie. Not quite what I expected as it has a few gruesome parts. I thought the story line and the message was good.

Hope your daughter is safe Cincy.

Wish I was on a curfew until about noon tomorrow.

CH=B, me too.

This Eltoro thing is quite interesting. I'm thrilled to see the baseball team take the series. A great birthday present, unlike the start of finals.

Must've been rough seeing the Penguins lose today, THT.

9:13 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Yep, Penguins looked disinterested today. It was painful.

But at the same time, AU was pounding Arky, so that made me feel a lot better.

yeah some pretty rough stuff in nashville, I'm working a camp there this summer and its looking like alot of our mission projects will now involve home repair from this storm.

War Eagle to the baseball team, that was a HUGE win and a great win for the program especially with two relatively easier series on the horizon
