Auburn (indirectly) draws the NCAA's ire

Hey everyone. I'm a bit late on this due to a lunch function with some HOTTIES and the WMSP 740 radio show, but let's work our way through this.

The NCAA on Thursday night approved legislation aimed at stopping the large-group recruiting Auburn had been using as recently as Thursday afternoon.

So what is this rule?

The NCAA has cut the number of coaches allowed to visit a school to two. Previously, the only applicable rule was that a maximum of seven assistants could be on the road at one time. Most schools scattered those seven men to cut a wider swath. Auburn unified its front.

Good or bad for Auburn? I say good. It gives the coaches a chance to frame the NCAA as haters; that Auburn was too good and too sly and too enthusiastic and too creative for the NCAA's tastes.

I had a humorous exchange with Trooper Taylor about this on Tuesday.

I said: "Considering how much bigger this has become since 2009, how high can you go for 2011?"

He said: "It probably won't happen. The NCAA will shut this down. We won't be recruiting like this next year, so we'll just enjoy it while we can. Hey, if they're creating rules to stop you from doing things, you must be doing something right."

I don't blame either of you. We had some network login issues affecting a number of us this morning. Not that you care.

But thanks for picking it up, nice job.

Good morning Hotties. Good luck staying dry. Unrelated to anything else really, some of our neighbor friends have a trip planned to Destin this Memorial Day Weekend. They're looking forward to the time away from the kids and meeting up with some old friends. I asked if they'd been watching the news about the oil and it was basically "oh, yeah. But we'll be away from the kids for the weekend so that'll be nice." I bet they won't have any long waits for restaurants either.

After 50 years of being a night person, do you think it is possible to change yourself into a morning person? I am really trying! For the past 3 weeks I have been having Mr. Cincy get me up at 5 when he gets up. It is amazing what all I can get done before I really get awake. I'll let you know if a leopard really can change its spots, or a tiger change its stripes is probably better :)

cincy - if I can work myself into a habit of 4:30am alarms to go running, anyone else can do essentially the same thing too.

ehyou- As big a Disney fan as I am, having jotted down there Friday after work and back yesterday, let me say this clearly, No Way in Hell am I driving that. That is right up there with the van that had the Tiger Tail fried off. Sorry, only Auburn Stickers and only 1 dawn my Vehicle along with an Auburn Front Plate and Georgia Auburn Tag. No Disney on my Vehicle, and I will keep it that way.

PS- Like Norm said, getting up early and often can be done. I've been going 2 years at getting up at 4AM to head to the gym every morning of the week and I wouldn't change a thing.

I've been getting up at 4:20 for a couple of months now. I can do it w/o much problem, but it hasn't started to suck any less or anything.

I've decided to temper my enthusiasm for the Braves because they did it against the Astros, but I do hope this means they are getting back on track. I'm REALLY happy to see what our baseball team did against Arky this weekend. Haven't taken a close look but I better their errors were way down this weekend.

Stick to golf Michael. We don't need to see pictures of you on the news getting handled and cleaned by others...and then set back into the wild.

Never played golf before, Eddie. Doubt I will start now.

I am thinking I will just chill in the beach house and watch TV, which is really not a bad vacation at all.

We have our annual Deep Sea fishing trip planed for May 6 thru May 9. This is from Orange Beach AL. We have been doing this since 1988 and will probably go any way. If we can't fish we can have a good time with friends. We usually have 12 but this year it is 10. So after Wednesday you won't hear from me. we charter a boat and go out 20 to 30 Miles and bottom fish.

The neighbor(wives) maneuvered the hubbies into watching "It's Complicated" on Friday night under the guise of it being a romantic comedy and it would be "fuu-un". Since 90% of the movie was written from Meryl Streep's character viewpoint ..I called the wives out for suckering us with a chick flick. We had plenty of margaritas mixed up so the evening was good anyway. Meryl Streep did a good job as always. Alec Baldwin is a load.
