Tiger Prowl is on the move

Hey everyone. Hope you had a swell weekend.

If you live in Alabama, you're (probably) going to have a chance to see the Tigers' recruiting enterprise in action this week. That's because Tiger Prowl -- the coaches' limousine-based recruiting tour started last April -- has become a statewide barnstorming tour that encourages fan support.

The tour starts today in Mobile. Fans can check out the MAGIC BUS today at Lipscomb Field beginning at 6 p.m.

The show arrives in Montgomery on Tuesday. The MAGIC BUS will be stopped on Tallapoosa ... beside the Reniassance Hotel.

They'll be in Birmingham on Wednesday (at a yet-unannounced location) and in the greater Huntsville area on Thursday at Madison Commons. That's technically in Madison, but who's counting?

UPDATE: The Birmingham shindig is going down at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Pelham.

You'll have a chance to see Gene Chizik, some of his guys and (depending on schedules) Tony Barbee and/or Nell Fortner. It's kinda like the Partridge Family, though we don't anticipate anyone buggin' out like Danny Bonaduce or anything.

I don't think commitments were the goal. It was more about raising awareness.

Was Reese Dismukes swayed by Auburn's emerging presence in south Alabama? I'd think that's a reasonable conclusion.

Blogger Norm said...

Yeah, I'd think Tiger Prowl and Big Cat Weekend certainly raised awareness and enthusiasm. I'd understand if no official numbers were kept to validate the effectiveness, but I'd be surprised to learn that the efforts didn't bear some fruit as far as getting commitments goes. Maybe not 100% attributable to it for a particular dude, but better than 50% is my guess. I'd say that makes it worthwhile. Keep it up for another year or so then do something different. That's what I'll tell Chiz as soon as he calls me looking for my opinion on matters.

Kind of like how I used to scream, "I will date any of you girls! Please date me!" at lunch every day through high school. No one ever came up to me while I was yelling, but eventually a girl finally said yes when I asked her to a dance, and I would like to think my screams kind of primed her for that.

I think anyone who finds it silly is just scared of what is going on in Auburn. You would have to be and idiot to think it doesn't have some sort of positive affect. It may not be the reason a kid signs (and it shouldn't be) but in the back of players minds its there.

I think they should do "Tiger Prowl" every year and make it a tradition. Just throw in some wrinkles or something new here and there.

Go ahead and chastise me, but I now sometimes listen to Finescum on XM Radio when in my truck. The Bammers are now mad because too many UGA fans are calling into "their" show. The Bammers are now trashing UGA and, at least. for now have forgotten AU. They are still nevertheless ..IDIOTS!!!

Since AU is rebounding, Finescum now has selected Richt and the Atlanta sports press as his new targets and is predictably bringing in the UGA calls.

Finescum is just that...scum. I wish we had a really good afternoon sports show in bham.

Can you imagine how cool it'd be for THT to be in Pennsylvania to watch the Pengins, and see the Tiger Prowl rolling by its way to see some big bruiser lineman from Pittsburg?

5:49 PM
Blogger wtc said...

IMO Tiger Prowl is just an event to keep the name out there. In state schools that say it is chincy, gauche, high schoolish are out of the loop. The object is to recruit 17-18 year olds, nit 40 year olds that think it is beneath them. I recall AU stopped in Ariton last year and 2 days later Sanders pledged to UAt. Later he changed his mind. I do not think Au got any commits from this event, but I think it sent a message. I think I read where 10 of the 25 kids at BCW signed with AU. That is the event I would keep my eye on.

5:58 PM
Blogger Miller said...

I'll disagree with 1 point WTC made... I think Tiger Prowl is as much about recruiting the 40 year olds as it is the 17-18 year olds...
The coaches cannot have contact with the student athlete during these visits... they are visiting the coaches, and counselors and teachers at these schools (yes, getting to know the kids better, and watch them work out if applicable timing)... but it helps to develop a relationship with the coach and teachers that these kids have relationships with that they trust to help guide them.
I think Tiger Prowl impresses these adults as much as the student... and developing those relationships... well, recruiting is all about developing relationships.

The people from out of state may think its gauche or whatnot... but, they would be just as impressed if the bus were to pull up to their school and the entire coaching staff (as many is allowed on the road at 1 time) piles out to talk to you, and shake hands and meet people....

And in the mean time, take you take the trash out in the house and place it next to the back door until he comes home get the trash can from the street and then he can take the trash from the back door to the trash can.

The Sens former goalie must have been subliminally messing with my typing.

I like it, though citizens of that city were eating dirt by July 4, 1863.

wtc.... early in the season... w/ a small sample size a couple of games can have a dramatic affect on one's average... A couple of good games will get him back up around 300

I'd like to see a Tiger Prowl Transformer. That would be a good project for PF.

One of my high school classmates was discovered dead yesterday after last being seen rafting down North Chickamauga Creek a couple of days ago up here in Chattanooga.

He's the third or fourth classmate (graduated from high school in 2000) to be taken away too soon, the others dying in car or motorcylcle accidents.

Damn...

Thanks guys. None of these classmates were close friends. The one who died this weekend was a pretty good friend back in elementary school, but didn't really talk much throughout middle school or high school.

The others were just friends during school hours and they were good guys, but I hadn't really talked to any of them since graduating.

No less tragic, though, of course.
