Auburn baseball update
Hey everyone. So Auburn won two of its three games this weekend against Tennessee, which had some significant implications for the home team.
The first weekend win clinched a spot in the Southeastern Conference tournament ... Auburn's first in six seasons.
The second weekend win pushed John Pawlowski's team to the top of the Western Division standings. Why is the program thriving these days? It's pretty simple.
Auburn's offense is sick sick sick.
They're not just leading the league in hitting ... they're way ahead. They hit for average, they hit for power, they demonstrate patience at the plate. They do a little bit of everything.
Pitching? It's league average. That's enough with an offense like this one.
Defense? It's a little below average. See above.
Auburn (35-17, 17-10) plays at Ole Miss (36-17, 16-11) this weekend, which likely will settle the Western Division race.

DL back on top.
(That's what she said.)
WHUT?
DPR better be ready for the World Cup. My guess is Jong-Il Kim will need some antacids ...

I'm technically on vacation this week ... so I'm glad it's sunny here in MGM. It's kinda like the beach.
As we all know, the performance of the stock market is directly tied to the performance of the Auburn football team. But what does the recent decline in the stock market mean? Does it mean we are in for a rough season, or does it mean it is preparing for a run in September once the pigskins start flying?
RANDOM TIDBIT
One of my favorite former baseball players, Raul Mondesi, is leading the race for mayor in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.
How far back are we in overall SEC standings? Too far?
Three games back of Florida.
By the way, this offense was pretty sick last year. Not as sick as this year, though, and the below average pitching last year got worse as run support fell off as the season progressed. Those of us who watched closely last year are not surprised to see this happening, though. I, for one, tried to warn everyone that this was coming. Nobody listened. Good thing it was warning of joy and sunshine.
Next year is still a mystery to me. Some sick freshmen coming in, along with some of the best JUCO guys in the country. We'll see.
I'm SteveFC and I support this message. Wait, what?
Actually, UF and South Carolina now are tied at 20-7 in the league.
Thanks, JayG. Is third seed best we can hope for? What's Vandy's record?
Closet HR is 80?! And that's kentuck. They are sick, sick, sick. Of course, it's fun being sick!
If we're involved in weekend play, I'm pretty sure I'll be there.
closet=closest :)
Too far, E-Bro. 2 games back of South Carolina, too. Probably a 4 seed if we don't win the west, which means likely starting off against Ole Miss or Arkansas (whichever is the 5 seed). I don't know that any of it matters, though. Winning gets the 7 seed, which will be Bama/Vandy/LSU/Kentucky.
Honestly, the SEC tourney will likely come down to UF and USC. Auburn appears to be the best of the rest, but I don't know if they're at the same level as the top 2.
Hottie Hooooo!!!!
West winner gets 2 seed, regardless of teams from east.
WEG, don't get too excited about the HR thing. AU hit a ton last year, and was sitting at home while games were being played at Hoover. It's nice, but doesn't mean all that much.
If Earl Weaver were alive, PF, he'd slap you for saying that.
Oh, Earl Weaver is alive.
Florida 20-7 37-12
South Carolina 20-7 41-11
Auburn 17-10 35-17
Arkansas 16-11 38-14
Ole Miss 16-11 36-17
Vanderbilt 15-10 39-13
LSU 12-15 34-18
Alabama 12-15 31-21
Tennessee 12-15 29-23
Kentucky 12-15 29-23
Mississippi St 5-22 21-31
Georgia 3-22 14-36
Mummey SEC Player of the Week....AGAIN!
Earl Weaver would slap me, but he'd also understand that Auburn's hit an incredible amount of home runs off pitching staffs that were already demoralized. He'd also have messed around with the line-up too much. Auburn's got a ton of options.
I love the ding dong, but the stat doesn't tell a story.
Wait, what did I just say?
PF ..ya mite wanna use that deleted comment function.
TMI PF!
It's OK Peter, Earl Weaver loves it too.
It's amazing to see how much higher the batting average is vs the rest of the league.
Here's the GQ story referenced on ESPN this afternoon about World Wide Wes.
Again, he's a close friend/associate of Auburn basketball coach Tony Barbee.
I'm as excited as someone who is the best non-bandwagoneer basketball fan can be about Barbee, but his past associations continue to make me nervous. Apparently I'm the only one, though.
Auburn baseball is raking in a substancial way substance.
Just found out I am getting to stay the weekend in Los Angeles on the weekend after memorial day. Hotel, car and food provided. This is good because my beloved bravos are in town that weekend.
OH YEAH, getting over on the MAN substance. (As long as one client doesn't screw me up on this.)
So pumped I gotta put a new picture up substance.
Peter, we've been over this. We could make the Final Four and they could take down the banner a few years later and I'd probably be okay with it. I'd still have the memory of the Final Four appearance, if not the official voucher.
I hope you all have a chance to read the oddly timed thread over at AuburnSports.com.
It's titled: "Why does Auburn allow Jay Tate and evan Woodberry access?"
I haven't written a story about Auburn in more than a week. It's been high school baseball and softball lately.
haha. does Mr. Lima have it out for you?
i can't access it but that's funny. he should know you run the hottest auburn blog in all the net. nuff said!
The stories I wrote before that were pretty positive ... football team performing well, recruiting going well, baseball going well.
Odd.
And as an official reset ... the only time I've set foot on the Alabama campus is to cover Auburn.
I have two degrees: One from Transylvania University and one from Kentucky.
Not a member there, so I guess I'll miss out on the fun.
It's mostly about Evan, honestly. A small percentage of people have this belief that an Alabama graduate cannot cover Auburn in an unbiased manner.
Evan does a fine job on the Auburn beat. I see no evidence of bias. I'd probably be one of the very first people to recognize it, too.
One person said all I care about is obscure minor league baseball players and soccer.
Eh. Pretty close.
Were they calling you a Bammer?
Jay G,
I saw where you mentioned the death of Ronnie James Dio on your facebook yesterday. I think the death of Dio has been greatly under covered. The guy is one of the greatest metal singers ever. His albums with Sabbath are arguably as good if not better than the Ozzy albums and his runs with Rainbow and as a solo act are excellent as well.
Peter: A few of them seemed to be attacking me and Evan for being Alabama graduates. The wording was awkward; I couldn't really tell what they were saying.
RK: Dio is one of the five best metal frontmen ever. Great voice, great expressions, came up with the index-and-pinky gesture. Undercovered.
RK,
NPR recognized.
He's bad ... he's worldwide.
Dio was never one of my favorites, even though I was a big metal fan in high school. With that said, I'm sorry to hear of his passing. Several of my friends were big fans of Dio and his various bands, so I definitely listened to plenty of his stuff through the years.

DIO
I do like the Tenacious D song about Dio.
What the heck are they feeding these boys? Those numbers are nuts!
Scott Choco,
That song was on repeat last night for about an hour.
Jet - I thought of you on our way to MESDA today to view their map collection. So what prompted such a wandering of my thought process?
An Ohio license plate: MZMRIZD
I wouldn't worry about Lima, Jay G. As they say, any publicity is good publicity. It doesn't sound like you are the one who pissed in her cherios.
I'm still having issues with Peter's ding dong comment
Evan is obviously biased. I see it plain as day. Of course, I probably want to see it that way.
I assume any problem with Jay G is because he isn't a sunshine pumper. He is a reporter, not a fan. In case you might have not noticed, Jim Fyffe was a fan and made no bones about it. Jay is give the facts and usually very little speculation in articles. He gives his opinion here in comments, but it isn't a biased opinion. When I want facts, I come here. When I want smoke blown up my but I usually go to the bleacher report.
New (somber) thread UPZ.
