Auburn football gets another commitment
Hey everyone. Quick word that Sweet Water linebacker Chris Landrum has committed to play football for Auburn beginning in 2011.
He stands 6-foot-2 and weighs approximately 215 pounds.
We know Auburn was hot after Landrum because it brought theTiger Prowl traveling band of coaches to Sweet Water two weeks ago. He has a standing offer from Alabama ... and other programs.

Smells good.
Anyone looking for a beautiful piece of music to start the day?
"Ashokan Farewell" is a good one. Just came up on my iPod. Became popular as the theme to Ken Burns' momentous documentary on The Civil War.
Maybe we should get someone to sing "Happy Birthday" a la Marilyn Monroe to Jay G.
That would RAWK.
SNORT.
Jet - I nominate you to impersonate Marilyn.
Though, that wouldn't necessarily be HAWT.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Tate!
Hope your day is all that you want it to be.
Happy Birthday Jay.
Get Some!
Happy B-Day to the Supreme Chancellor of Hotttt-ness.
i will be heading to Auburn early in the morning for my bro-in-law's graduation @ 2pm CT. i'll prolly hit the AU-UT baseball game too. anybody else going to be there?
Happy Birthday, Jay G.
scottieb-I will be there.
1st or 2nd row right on top of the AU dugout.
Beisbol.
Jugues?
Me gusta.
What time is the game tomorrow? I may show up. Nothing better to do.
El hábotn en dos lenguas.
cool WTC. i'll holla if i make it.
game is at 6:30 CT Eddie.
Yo tambien.
A very Happy Birthday to sportswriter Jay G Tate. We wish for many more.
Region is still an Auburn commit, he just wants to have some fun going to other schools to be wined and dined. UNLESS the little general sends the bag man. Then who knows.
The Saturday game is a night game? That sucks. A day game, I could probably swing.
Eddie, pun intended?
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. You all are the BEST.
Still extremely hopeful about some major HABOTN progress by July 1. You all are gonna be stoked!
FYI: Busy few weeks coming up. I'll be in Hoover for at least the start of the tournament, Big Cat Weekend and the SEC Meetings in Sandestin from June 1-4.
Happy Birthday JGT! May you have many, many, many more!
Happy B-day G.
WTC, I like what Landrum had to say but I am not surprised. I like all other members of the AU family understand the feeling that these recruits have. There is no other place like Auburn. I'm excited that we have a coaching staff that believes in Auburn and has embraced the "Family". They are not afraid to go after the top recruits because they know what they have to sell to them is a grade A product. The coaches will come and go, the players will come and go, but Auburn will always be with them.
Soccer=organized kickball
We speak English here ... learn it.
Makes sense to me.
Does it to you?
CH=B....you complete me Sara Walker!
No spekie Engwish.
I have volunteered to provide a World Cup blog for my entire company (USA Today, about 100 other newspapers and TV stations) that everyone the world over can enjoy.
If that comes to fruition, all you HOTTIES still be my one love!
YES!!!!! World Cup Substance!
Jay G, really quick, does the US have a chance with their only International Club forward being Jozy Altidore?
If you haven't seen this sixth grader play Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" ... you may enjoy it.
(Camera stops jiggling after 10 seconds or so.)
US has no chance.
A miracle gets them to the knockout round. Even then, they lose the first match.
JayG...YES PLEASE on the World Cup blog. I'll be keeping one of my own, but with much less fanfare.
I love organized kick ball.
Organized Kickball > Kickball
re: Video.
I should have said ... video jiggling goes from unwatchable to merely bad after 10 seconds.
Miracle to get to the knockout round?
Don't know bout that. I don't think it will be easy for us at all and woldn't be shocked if we don't get there, but we seem to be pretty solid favorites for one of the two advancing spots out of our group.
JGT,
Your boy at supersport 930 has no excuse not to run this as your intro music.
Bad news is, if we finish as RUP, there is a 90% we will play Germany in the first game.
We can absolutely beat Algeria and Slovenia. The thing that worries me about them is that they will concede a lot of possession to us and we're not always the best at taking the game to somebody.
Still, failure to reach the knockout round will be a huge failure for US Soccer. I think it's right to expect us to be able to advance from the group.
We play football here, not soccer ... talk about football.
Makes sense to me.
The first game hinges on beating the Old Country. We absolutely must win or at the very least draw.
Does it to you?
Sean...I'll take that if it means we're in the knockout round. That's all I care about at this point. Anything after the knockout round is gravy.
Plus, Germany is the clear traditional favorite out of their group, but they are in a tough group. Serbia, Ghana, and Australia are all capable of topping the Germans.
E-Bro: I just don't see it.
Maybe my affinity for Davies is out of line with what he really is. I feel like he's a critical component.
Landon D. does nothing for me. He's a destitiute man's Aaron Lennon.
Jet...not when the resident blogger is the one broaching subject.
I'm with Jet.
Let's not get too far off the Auburn path. This is the HABOTN after all!
SEC Meetings in Sandestin. Tough assignment.
Nice dramatic pause there, Jet!
Expansion questions locked and loaded, Jay G?
Don't get me wrong, a healthy Davies would have been great to have, but I don't think he had gotten to the point yet where he was crucial to the team. Call it the Eddie Johnson syndrome.
As for Donovan, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree b/c I thought it was pretty unequivocal that he's the best player the US has ever produced. He's certainly done more in intenational soccer than Lennon.
He was the driving force behind the successful run in the Confed Cup last year...as well as just about any other success the US has had in the last eight years.
Happy birthday, Mr. President...
I could imitate Marilyn, but my hair is the wrong color.
You're too generous, Ephemeral!
Happy Birthday
I'm still committed to typing in Spanish from time to time.
Jet...get some.
Happy Birthday Jay! Thanks for sharing your reporter life with us crazy Auburn fans!
Dodge ball > kickball > organized kickball
Has anyone seen the AU Baseball commercial on WSFA? It's pretty cool.
scottie, tell you avatar to keep his dirty hands off of my avatar.
A good friend of mine has worked in the players lounge at the Player's Championship at TPC Sawgrass for the past few years. This year there were three of them who worked the lounge full time. At the end of the week they totaled their tips and they split $1100. At 1st that sounds pretty good, but when you look at the collection of millionaires it's just sad. Tiger Woods for the second straight year did not tip at all.
Jet - it makes sense to me.
BEASLEY!!!
+
BEASLEY!!!
+
BEASLEY!!!
and Happy Birthday wishes to Monsieur Tate!!!
CHB...let's keep the focus exclusively on Auburn here. No golf.
...
I kid, I kid.
WEG ... I have, and it is good.
CH=B ... is that your friend's full-time job?
Naps > dodge ball > organized kickball > soccer
Hating UAT > Naps > dodge ball > organized kickball > soccer
Man, didn't take THT to ditch the Penguins after the loss to Les Habitantes.
He's already wishing happy birthday to "Monsieur" Tate.
lol...ebro.
golf > dodge ball > kickball > organized kick ball
Tying in the golf angle with Auburn, though.
How good is our golf team? Anybody keep up with them? When I attend in the NCAA Championships in a few weeks, any chance Auburn will be participating? Do they have a chance to make it out of the qualifiers?
Answers on a postcard please.
AU is No. 7 seed in regional to be held at aTm, I believe.
In the men's tournament, top 5 from each regional advance to the national tournament.
The women finished third in their regional and will compete next will at the nationals.
This has been your golf postcard.
Our top story tonight, Generalisimo Francisco Franco is still dead.
Tipping VOLUNTEERS is optional. If your friend doesn't like it, he can stop doing it every year. Obviously, he likes it enough to keep coming back. It pisses me off when people feel entitled to other people's money, just because they have it.
That being said, it is pretty classless not to throw a dog a bone.
I like golf and all, but as far as drinking sports go, it is not in the same league with kickball and dodgeball.
Thanks Jet. I saw they were a 7 seed, but wasn't sure the number of teams advancing out of each regional.
Norm, can you please facilitate those that are hearing impaired with your newscast? Thanks.
Damn...just realized today was not Friday. That sucks even more. It should be, because it feels like it for sure.
Today most definitely feels like a Friday and that...is disappointing.
Well here we go again, I disagree with PF. If you are working in the food service industry then yo deserve to be tipped. Waiters/Waitresses are paid like crap and rely on tips to make a living.
It's not entitlement when you are working for it.
I think I hear a gayta in your back yard calling your name.
With all these request can we add Vocal to this blog, I have a blind friend who would like to paticipate.
Just Keeding
That's not anywhere near the same as working in a restaurant or bar. He's volunteering at a sporting event. The golfers don't owe him anything. Those with class tip, those that lack it don't. If he doesn't like it, go do something else. People whine way too much.
I have a Bo Jackson encounter story (from yesterday!) to share. It may end up being kind of long, so I'm going to take a page from Jet's playbook and post it on my blog rather than here. I'll let y'all know when it's up, and will post the link.
You totally feel like he's entitled to the money, otherwise you wouldn't bring up the fact that they're millionaries. Socialist!
ChocoScott must be pretty important if he has a blog. They don't hand those out to just anybody.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAY G.
1. Happy Birthday JGT.
2. CH=B's picture > than all other pictures.
(I love me some Yvonne StroHOTski.)
EHYOU - OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT, GENERALISIMO FRANCISCO FRANCO IS STILL DEAD!
Thinking someone with (or without) money should tip someone else who is providing them a service (a service in which it is customary to receive a tip) does not equate to Socialism.
I'm sure there is someone on here who is/has been a waiter/waitress that would agree.
Socialism rocks.
New Shimmer is a floor wax!
I think it is time to bring back public hanging. Jail (timeout) is not working.
Don't be hatin' on Tiger because he's a bad tipper. He's gonna be needin' those coins -- he's gotta hire a new swing coach, hire a divorce lawyer, then when Elin cashes out, well, maybe we all ought to send him $20. in the mail. I'll collect it for everbody and send it on.
Mail $20 to:
Jet

Waiter/Waitress at a restaurant does not equal working a VIP hospitality tent. Sorry. I've been on both sides of that rope (having worked almost every possible aspect possible in food and beverage, as well as having access to VIP areas), and the is no customary requirement for tipping there. You're wrong, and your argument that they're millionaires, so the volunteers (not employees working a steady gig) should have been given more is very much one advocating redistribution of wealth.
NO, IT'S A DESSERT TOPPING!
It'll behoove ya to take care of your uvula.
Brought to you by the National Uvula Association.
Don't worry, kid. Even Reggie Jackson buzzed off.
who said anything about a VIP tent? This was the restaurant/lounge that is part of the club. His friend manages the restaurant and needed help to work it for the tourney. So when I say he volunteered he volunteered to work...for money. It's not like if I went out the Region's today and got to hang under a tent.
Candygram.
I agree a volunteer is a different subject.
If you go back and read my original post I never said the word volunteer at all. So take your snide socialism comments and shove it.
Calm down, you two. New Shimmer is both a floor wax and a dessert topping!
And it's delicious!
i need to get me a gob of that.
simmer down now.
Just got the EA Sports World Cup Game App from Itunes and i'm loving it. Games have come a long way in a short time on these apps.
Alright, my novel has been typed. There are a few pics in there, too.
Chocoblog
and just look at that shine!
ScoCho - Cool story.
Scott, are you insinuating that Bo Jackson was getting paid 6 figures while at Auburn?
Seanzie- There is more truth to that statement than you could ever imagine.
Thanks for the second and third waves of birthday salutations. You all are awesome.
Sadly, I'm headed to the AHSAA softball tournament in a few moments. If any of you all are going to be there, let me know. We'll hang out. I know nothing about what I'm doing at a softball tournament. Might as well be at equestrian.
yeah, good luck with that JG. ouch.
Hmmm...Alright Eddie, we'll just leave it at that.
Firefox blows. It crashes on me all the time now. I'm not a big Chromes fan either, so now I will try safari.
have patience, Edward. Firefox is about to have a new release.
SEC to revisit State and their bloody cowbell tradition.
Yes Eddie, please leave it at that.

SEC will only make rules about cowbells, they have absolutely no intention about enforcing them. Cowbells don't bother me. Whistles that aren't the refs do, and I believe it cost us a game against LSU.
Happy b'day, JGT! It's my mom's birthday today, too. I'd better remember to call her! Too bad she doesn't have a blog.
They currently cannot enforce it per the penalties listed (not that they ever did before) but now they're talking about levying fines, which is entirely enforceable as it won't lead to fan anarchy.
I agree with Eddie re: LSU/whistles.
LSU sucks. We need to beat them. Losing to LSU with the Hat at the helm is a joke.
Eddie ...
Repeat after me.
"The only player Auburn ever paid was Eric Ramsey because he was poor, stupid, married to a psychopath, and not going to make it to the NFL."
There. Don't you feel better? Sure you do.
Jet- I was counting on a response from you. Like clockwork, your always on time :).
Personally, I think State needs more cowbell.
Whistles are different.
I shall not stand for your scandalous lies, Eduardo.
I think it was just a 60 mins conspiracy and Eric Ramsey wasn't paid, it was all just a clever use of audio and film.
D@mn liberal media.
Jay, softball is much better than I ever realized. I didn't care for it until my daughter was on a travel team and we spent weekends at games all over the place.
There seems to be much more strategy in softball than in baseball. There is lots of stealing, bunting, and such. I love it.
Keep it down home cuz.
As for losing to Les Miles, it does stink, but dealing with idiots is always difficult since idiots are so creative.
"Stealing" "bunting" what are these things to which you refer? Never heard of such.
Back in the day I've seen/known plenty of AU and UAT football players that got extra benefits. I been away from that world for years now and wonder how much still goes on.
I do know a couple of UGA baseball guys from a few years ago that got some minor perks(condo usage w/courtesy car, etc).
I work with an ex-UAT player and he says the $100 handshakes were plentiful. He also said that Logan Young was as dirty as advertised. For road games he would rent a penthouse and stock it with food and drinks for some of the elite players. This was the early 80's. I know that on road trips now the players usually don't get away much.
The NCAA really needs to do something about what benefits players are allowed to receive. Players can't really take part time jobs to make ends meet.
The NCAA also needs to reconsider how punishment is handed down when rules are violated.
I disagree about paying players. A full ride with Meals and living are a great benefit that I would have gladly traded for the opportunity to work and have a few more "spending" dollars.
Most players on top of that will usually receive Pell Grants in addition to their scholarship which gives them a nice bit of walking around money, and if they don't qualify for that, then their parents are usually good for it. College sports need to stay no-pay.
I knew a guy that played at Miles College back in the day and even there it was dirty for just about everyone who played.
There's no telling what goes on at the bigger schools, Auburn included.
Happy Birthday Jay G.
You gotta start to wonder what Little Saint Nick is thinking about losing a lot of these kids. Two years ago it was his playground, like Louisiana was during his LSU days.
Except in AL, he's got the competition with another school.
Fulmer did a bit of telling a couple of years back.
Ah, good times.
CH=B,
You mean where you said several months ago that he volunteers every year?
hey beat hack and potential world cup blogger...happy bd. stay out of trouble in san destin.
I'm going to be mayor of Mooseport.
Good luck at the Tourney Jay G.
My step niece plays for Ider in the 2A bracket. If they make it to Saturday, I think I may run down and watch her. I will holla if I do.
114 and change

Kinda like the Pens are winning deficient?
I have a Crosby yersey. That's right. WEARING YERSEYS.
The loss hurt.
Real men wear jerseys.
the biggest thing the ncaa needs to address is the speed of their infractions process. we have the funkin' internet today. there are these things called video conferencing and email. there is no reason the committee could not meet once a month instead of once every four years or so. the rules committee didn't screw around outlawing something as insignificant as tiger prowl. that only took almost a year from inception. (and a big middle finger to rutgers or whatever whiny dullard school proposed it). i thought reggie bush would be retired by the time the uscw thing came to close and it may not be entirely over. i know killing uscw is financial hari kari and you don't want to turn off the $$$ fountain, but dang. everyone knew bush and others were paid years ago. if it goes a lot deeper than what was obvious on the surface and warranted as much time as it took, uscw and kiffykin are going to be able to describe the bullets that are at the other end of the barrel.
i've been on the road all day and don't know if the uscw sanctions have been announced yet. weren't they supposed to be released this week?
I got my Celtic jersey last night. I felt awesome.
Hope it's the Happiest of Birthdays for you Jay G....
I would like NCAA sanctions to include sanctions that follow a coach. If a coach moves to a different school, he shouldn't be able to start with a clean slate. While a school is on probation, the coaches that got the school on probation should be banned from working at another NCAA school as a minimum, even the ones not directly connected to the wrong doing. Why? The school gets punished, the players get punished, and you get the Jackie Sherrills of the world that just move on to the next school they put on probation.
then kiffykin and the o should be a perfect match for uscw.
chip, I think they have pushed the uscw decision off till next week. From what I read the report is very detailed and lengthy. I don't think it is going to end well for them.
I agree sanctions should follow a coach. Boosters should also get into more trouble and so should the player that was involved. More times than not the school and a bunch of innocent players receive the brunt of the punishments.
How about quicker NCAA decisions through the use of tazers? Have NCAA investigators apply punishment as they find the violations.
Tase all parties involved.
i'm off to see the chizik. the wonderful chizik of AUz.
at battleship park in mobile. what is betting line he makes a crack about needing to rename the battleship the uss AU?
Dmiller-I see where the kid at Univ of TX was granted a medical waiver for last season. I think this opens the door for him to transfer to AU now.
(He is a basketball player from North Carolina. He played on the AAU team that Barbee has contacts with) Rumor has it that he was waiting to see if he could the waiver, which he did, and now he has 3 years of eligibility left. He plays PG and is the piece AU needs for next year as the PG they have is Josh Wallace (5'10" walk on)
I guess no one is around for me to live blog from chiz's appearance in mobile.
He looked very tired upon arrival.
There are 1983 commemorative AU coke bottles (with 1983 coke included) up for silent auction. I wonder where I would wake up if I drank one?
Recruiting genius luper is present.
Chiz compliments barbee. Says staff work together in recruiting.
Power failure. chiz speaks to us in the dark. Stupid bammer janitor!
Ben tate was not returning for senior season.
Tate also called to congratulate chiz on signing day and apologize for dunking the ball in the bowl game.
Keeping staff together is muy importante.
Needs fans to be "all in" I'm in.
outstanding work, chippie
thanks tht. i'm glad i had an audience member for my efforts.
for the record, i did not drink the 1983 coke. i overheard someone saying the brown acid was good...
WTC, great news on Ward getting that waiver. Now who do we cut loose so that we have a spot for him? From what I have read if healthy he is a baller.
JayG-girls softball is a great game to watch. My cousin was MVP of the tourney about 6 years ago. She mashed about 8 homers in the tourney. Usually the 3A-4A-5A girls are the better teams. I do not keep up with it as much as I used to, but find out the teams with the best records and follow them. They usually have at least 1 stud pitcher (all you really need) and at least 2 good hitters that can mash it. Another cousin will be there scouting the girls he has signed for next season.
CHB-I think we are counting on someone not qualifying.
maybe we can get some grades changed...downward ;-)
I had a 1983 AU coke bottle. I got thirsty one night in 89 and drank it. It was a bit dusty, but otherwise fine.
WTC, another thing on Ward is that I thought we wanted him because he would be eligible to play immediately. He was basically granted and extra year. Wouldn't he still need to be granted a medical hardship in order to transfer and not sit out a year?
Keep in mind that Ward's waiver is just a medical harship waiver... i.e. medical redshirt... he has not been granted a medical hardship release yet...yet.
Although, the medical redshirt is a good first step in that direction...
Well, LeSuck and the Cavs lost tonight. And there was much rejoicing.
I like the live blogging too, chip^2.
The Tate not returning thing was prior to last year? And then Chiz talked him into it?
whoever won the silent auction went home with about a dozen 1983 cokes.
personally, i would rather have an 1893 coke using the original original formula.
i would have wanted to leave too after 2008 if i was a rb. according to chiz tate was all set to leave and the staff talked him into staying. he also talked about tate trying to hide in the crowd after the goal post dunk. chiz had nothing but good things to say about ben and what he did for the team this year.
he continuously stressed the fact that keeping the staff together is a priority for him and jj. chiz apparently didn't know luper was going to be there. chiz said he knew luper was out recruiting somewhere but didn't know where exactly and was surprised when he got there to find luper hanging out with the fans.
speaking of old coca-cola, has anyone under the age of 40 here ever had a true, hand-dipped coke with the soda water added to the syrup? i've had one in my lifetime at some theme park. outta sight!!!
just checking in. chip-chip, great work.
:) nite.
If they keep this staff together for... 3 more years... I don't want to think of how many championships this program can accumulate.
i feel like the HABOTN witchdoctor tonight. i've been trying to bring this thread back from the dead all night. i must need more chicken heads for the spell to work!!!!
I'll be up for a lot longer, chip^2. So we can flippity flip this.
glad to provide some substance.
we literally sat in the dark listening to chiz talk for about 15 minutes until the sodium lamps in the hangar (yes, an airplane hangar) heated up again. if you have never been to battleship park in mobile, there is an aerospace museum where events such as tonight are held. there are all these military aircraft on display and cruise missiles hanging from the ceiling. neat venue.
Kinda dramatic... football talk and old war memorials. That'd make me want to go into battle between the tackles.
they organized a tiger walk down the gangplank of the battleship for chiz's arrival. it was complete with aubie and the orange and blue azalea trail maids.
props to the mobile & baldwin county AU clubs that have cosponsored these events the last few years. i can tell they put a lot of effort into these things and it is appreciated.
if this staff is together 3 more years, i would like to think 6 championships are possible. 3 real ones (sec) and 3 that don't count for much other than the expensive crystal egg you get for all your trouble.
i think we are losing power towards our page flip...
must need more chicken heads...
this thread has to be a zombie by now.
In honor of Norm the great flipper ....BOOM!!
OOPS ..BOOM ...stupid blogger counter.
and now you know why i didn't try to flip it.
Morning Hotties. Happy Friday.
The less said about Hoopie's premature page flip, the better.
Morning Hotties. Friday is upon us and we're one day closer to football.
Nice work Chip. The family and I went to the Tiger Trek in ATL about a month ago. It was a good time.
Nice effort Hoopie.
cincy if you're checking in, congratulations to Tyler.
KEEP HATE ALIVE!
Good morning, Hotties! Graduation Day is here Thanks for the well wishes Norm. Worked until midnight last night, but everything is ready for an awewome "gladulation" party!
