Live Baseball -- sorta

Alrighty, boys and girls, I'm here for actual baseball. Your Tigers are on the field as I'm typing this. As you know, we can't do a "live blog" of the game -- the NCAA frowns upon such things. I'll recap the innings as best I can for ya.

So, away we go on what is sure to be a fantastic voyage ...

JACKSONVILLE STATE v. AUBURN

JSU Top 1
: SP Cory Luckie struggled a bit, allowing a run on two hits. He also balked runners to second and third and walked 'em loaded. Fortunately for AU, that's where he left 'em. He did throw 36 pitches in the half-inning. JSU 1, AU 0

AU Btm 1:
Considerably less drama. Three to bat, three to sit. JSU starter Austin Lucas threw five pitches.

JSU Top 2: Another inning, another runner in scoring position. No harm this time, however. AU still down a run.

AU Btm 2: Think back to the first. It went like that.

JSU Top 3: Couple of balls to the track, but no harm done. Still one-zip, JSU.

AU Btm 3: Couple of balls to the track. Still no harm done by the Tigers.

JSU Top 4: A walk and double play. As an aside, you know what's stupid? Grown men at a baseball game yelling at "Blue."

AU Btm 4: Hey, offense. Your Tigers have plated three runs, despite one of the most awesomest catches by JSU CF Daniel Adamson that saved a grand slam. New score: AU 3, JSU 1

JSU Top 5:
And back come those pesky Gamecocks. Two-run ... ahem, DONG, and an RBI single put them back on top. Your new score: JSU 4, AU 3

AU Btm 5:
And back come the Tigers. They love pepper and hate cinnamon but also don't mind a lead either. Fradejas hit his second -- ahem -- DONG of the season -- this one a two-runner -- and AU is back on top. AU 5, JSU 4

JSU Top 6:
And back come the Gamecocks. Tied this baby at 5-5.

AU Btm 6:
Mr. Gamache went ahead and Ga-Mashed one. AU 6, JSU 5

JSU Top 7:
Eh.

AU Btm 7: Give the Tigers two more. And Gamache had hit one ball six inches higher and another a foot to the right, he'd have six more RBIs. On the other hand, had JSU's first sub-style pitcher been 12 feet to the left on a couple of pitches, he would've just missed outside. New score: AU 8, JSU 5

JSU Top 8:
And back come the Gamecocks ... just not all the way. Couple of runs scored, a runner left at third. Give these guys credit, they're not going anywhere. New score: AU 8, JSU 7

Brief summary:
Auburn wins, 9-7.

Sorry, had to finish a few notes and get quotes. But hey, it was on TV.

that was almost my first choice, Norm. I didn't want to see the Hotties response of me choosing that over AU football. So I retyped it before I hit "publish".

3 weeks until 2 weeks of vacation with rafting, hiking and diving. With trip prep, vacation and recovery, fall practice should be starting about the time I'm done.

Norm ...sounds like that was an outstanding day with f4*. There are some very good parents on the HABOTN. Now if we can just convince the rest of the world to follow suit.

It may be close to official that the Big12 is breaking up. The authority in sports seems to think so.

"His league is definitely going down," college sports radio analyst Paul Finebaum said on ESPN on Friday. "It has hit the iceberg."

If you can't believe Paul Finebaum, who can you believe?

Wow. I went to elementary, middle, and some high school with Hunter Rivers (JSU pitcher tonight). Small world (state?).

Just getting in my random comment for the next two weeks.

Hoopie - thanks. Sad, but true. It's not that difficult (most of the time), but amazingly too few seem to pull it off.

Condo now listed with a realtor. Price for exact same unit went from $130,000 to $137,900. Should have bought it when it was cheap :) Hopefully said realtor can work magic and relieve me of two bathrooms to clean.

Interesting column on the possible Pac 10 raid on the Big 12 from the Texas perspective. According to this, the SEC has been talking to Texas A&M.

I have no doubt that the SEC has been in preliminary talks with a lot of schools about possibly joining the SEC. If they haven't they would be foolish. The more I read the more that I am convinced that we will see the Big12 fall apart, and also possibly the Big East.

6:54 PM

The most interesting thing about the Big12 falling apart may be what happens to the schools that nobody seems to want, such as Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, and Iowa State. I haven't seen anybody rushing to pick them up.

Start time will now be determined at 7:30. Looks like they're waiting on another line of storms to make up it's mind.

I dislike the concept of the super conferences. I think Slive's comment that the SEC is good as it currently is is correct. I don't see that the per team payout would expand if the conference does so what would be the point?

7:25 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Game start now showing as 8:15.

7:28 PM

The Big 12 on the other hand is really hurting for money. The PAC 10 may get most of what they want because those teams have to do something for income to be competitive.

7:30 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

With an expanded TV market by including some of the Big12 schools, it is likely the SEC payout would increase significanly, especially if Texas or Oklahoma joined the SEC.

The fight right now seems to be between the PAC-10 and SEC for Texas, with the Big10 wanting them too, but it not being that attractive geographically for Texas.

I have favored the SEC adding some east coast schools, such as GT, Clempson, and FSU; but if the SEC grabs 2-4 Big12 schools, it is highly likely that Auburn would move to the SEC East, which would work very well for me.

GT up 5-2 over bama after 6. Bama's starting pitcher out.

8:02 PM

Texas would add market, but the others not so much. At least not enough more to pay for more than their share. Miami could also add significant market.

The number crunchers know more than I do about it. I just don't see it.
